The American Small Business League spoke with Alexander Cooke, running for Congress as an Independent in Florida’s District 21. His website is www.AlexCookeForCongress.com.
He has a BS is Finance, is the Founder and CEO of Optimist Capital, was elected to Town Council of Juno Beach in 2022 and elevated to Mayor within the year. He refused his mayoral salary and rejected all campaign donations, gifts and endorsements.
Speaking of which, we, the ASBL, have endorsed Bernard Taylor for District-21, which is no reflection on Alex because we’ve only just met him.

(57) Save Minority-Owned and Women-Owned Small Businesses
On April 27, 2026, a bill was introduced in the House (H.R. 8511) and the Senate (S. 4390) that would wipe out the federal contracting goals for minority and Women-Owned Small Businesses (WOSBs). It would practically guarantee that 100% of federal contracts would go to companies owned by men and that must not be allowed to happen. Women own 40% of all businesses in America and they sell what the government buys.
We want this bill squashed and hope that you will oppose it, too.
Again, please print our Substack and call the people and Committees therein.
The American Small Business League wants Congress to stop small business contracts from going to big businesses (many new jobs would get created and the economy would boom) and raise from 5% to 15% the federal contract dollars that should go to women-owned small businesses.
