[00:00:00] Ryan Mellon: Hey guys, welcome to another episode of Digital Nomad Nation, Nomad Notes Edition, where I give you a little inside peek on what it's like living in Bali. And I'm gonna have to say I lied to you guys the last time I did Nomad Notes. I was gonna go to a co living in Ubud, which is in the rainforest, and switch it up on the beach.

[00:00:21] Ryan Mellon: And I have done the exact opposite of that. So I got sidetracked by a Tinder date, ~which, um, is good. And, uh, that's nice. ~And so basically I found a amazing villa here in Seminyak, which is, if you're not familiar with Bali, Bali is one of, ~uh, ~Indonesia's 17, 000 islands. ~That's. ~One of the most famous islands in the world, but Seminyak is~ on the East coast.~

[00:00:40] Ryan Mellon: ~It's~ about 20 minutes from the airport with no traffic. ~Uh, ~it's a very popular spot and it's ~one of them, ~one of the more, uh, touristy and a little bit more expensive places. ~Um, ~but it is ~for. It's like that ~for a reason. There's multiple beaches around. ~Um, ~there's tons of nightlife restaurants, ~um, ~tattoo parlors, massage [00:01:00] parlors, all the things that you would see at the beach.

[00:01:02] Ryan Mellon: ~Um, ~so it's a really good place, ~um, ~for living ~as far as. ~ ~The villa has everything that I need, uh, and it's a modern, um, built villa. ~It's a one bedroom with a loft. ~So ~as you come in, you have a bathroom to your right and a kitchen, and then it's two story, 20 foot ceilings. You have a spiral staircase up to the loft.

[00:01:19] Ryan Mellon: With the bedroom, ~uh, ~you have a nice living room and then a pretty big size veranda that overlooks the pool. Now the pool is shared with a couple other guests. ~Uh, ~there's like maybe six units here ~and, um, ~but. ~Uh, ~no one's ever in the pool. So you pretty much have it to yourself. It's a really, ~uh, ~beautiful place.

[00:01:38] Ryan Mellon: ~It's a great place. ~Um, very inspiring for work. ~Um,~ the internet is, is awesome. And I just wanted to share a little bit about why I like it here and what's so great about it. ~So, um,~ I've been able to find. ~And ~all in walking distance, ~uh, ~a gym, a coworking space. You have the nightlife, the clubs and restaurants.

[00:01:56] Ryan Mellon: ~You, ~you have, ~um, ~laundry, ~uh, ~all within walking [00:02:00] distance and it's been great. So this Villa is. ~Um, ~a little bit more than I need and it's on the higher end, the location of it being close to the beach and walking distance to Seminyak. It's definitely more than I would like to pay and it's on the higher end.

[00:02:15] Ryan Mellon: ~It's a little bit more than I need, but ~I'm paying 1500 a month and what's included in that is water, power, and internet. It's also fully furnished. ~Um, ~and they do daily cleanings. If I want that, I usually have them come in and clean every couple of days. So it's been really nice to have all of that. I have a full kitchen where I'm able to cook breakfast.

[00:02:39] Ryan Mellon: And one of the best things about nomadding and Just being an entrepreneur for me is having those slow mornings where I can wake up, go out on the balcony overlooking, ~uh, ~the, the town and the pool and have some coffee and read a book and just then do a meditation, then slowly. [00:03:00] You know, make breakfast and then go into my work day, unless I have meetings.

[00:03:04] Ryan Mellon: Sometimes I have meetings first thing in the morning. I coach clients and that happens often where I'll have an early morning meeting as well, but on the days that I'm, that I'm not, ~um, ~it's just great to be able to, ~um, ~you know, Walk everywhere. ~Um, and so you can get around. ~So that's my, my monthly rent is 1500, which includes all those things.

[00:03:24] Ryan Mellon: But then in addition to that, you could literally eat out three meals a day for 10 to 15. ~Uh, you can save money if you're willing to cook at home, of course, even more. Um, ~It's so inexpensive, ~um, ~getting around. If you just get a grab, which is like Uber here, motorcycle, quick trip, a dollar or two car, quick trip, three to 5.

[00:03:43] Ryan Mellon: ~Um, it's very cheap.~ One load of laundry, ~uh, ~just drop off and pick up the next day. Like folded perfectly smelling amazing done way better than I could do it myself. It's going to be about. dollars as well. So it's, ~um, ~other than the [00:04:00] rents that have gotten a lot more expensive and me choosing to be in more of a, ~uh, ~higher end place closer to the beach in a popular destination, ~uh, ~it's still very inexpensive to be here and I'm really enjoying it.

[00:04:13] Ryan Mellon: So, ~um, ~I'm happy to be in ~this, uh, ~This new villa ~for the locked in ~for the next month and there's availability for me to extend past that I will be going to Nusa Dua to meet some family that's coming in for two weeks, ~uh ~to visit So that'll be cool. So i'll actually go and stay in Nusa Dua, which is like the higher end resort area of Bali, ~uh, ~in February.

[00:04:35] Ryan Mellon: And then maybe back here. I'm not sure there's a lot more, ~uh, ~places on Bali that I want to explore to include Mount Batur, which is a volcano, ~uh, ~that you can climb and watch the sunrise. I've always wanted to do that. I have not done it yet. ~Uh, ~as well as a place called Ahmed, which is on the, ~uh, like Northwest coast and ~Northeast coast.

[00:04:54] Ryan Mellon: and I've heard of it being up and coming area and like a little bit less touristy, [00:05:00] so I might check that out. So lots of cool things happening. ~Um, ~I found an amazing gym close by that charges 100, 000 rupee a day, which is six us dollars. ~Uh, ~for a day pass and it's like really outfitted very well.

[00:05:14] Ryan Mellon: Cold AC, ~um, ~it has a rowing equipment, which I love to row. ~Um, ~and it has a pool, hot tub, sauna, and cold plunge. And the cold plunge for me has been an absolute game changer. If you're not familiar with that, it's called contrast therapy going from the extreme heat, extreme cold. There's tons of benefits to it.

[00:05:37] Ryan Mellon: ~Uh, ~and you just really feel super energized after that. And so all of those things being, ~um, ~having just good equipment plus all those amenities, all that included in that just one, one price for a day ~is ~is absolutely awesome. It's in walkable distance from here. ~Um, ~and so just being able to get back to the gym and be able to walk [00:06:00] everywhere has been a game changer for my health.

[00:06:03] Ryan Mellon: ~Um, ~and so staying healthy on the road is always something that you need to do, ~uh, ~when you're traveling. So that's why I'm really loving Semenyak and I'm enjoying it. And I'm just being able to walk everywhere, The grocery stores close by everything has been really, really great. ~Um, ~I also, ~well, uh, ~went to a new coworking space this week and it was interesting because this coworking space is actually in a hotel lobby.

[00:06:30] Ryan Mellon: Thankfully, it's not a busy hotel lobby, but they were really creative in the fact that ~they. Like put desk and ~they have some rooms for like video calls and it is a pretty quiet hotel lobby there were quite a few ~quite a bit of ~people working there and what I liked about it is that you also had access to the pool so in the middle of you working if you wanted to just take a jump in the pool take a break like that you could ~um ~they have a coffee like cafe and restaurant there as well [00:07:00] so they'll bring food right to you while you're working.

[00:07:02] Ryan Mellon: And their day pass is also a hundred thousand rupiah, which is six US dollars. And that's for 24 hours, not just a day, which is nice. A lot of them just do for the day to the end of the day. So having a 24 hour co working space that has fast internet, that has food, that has a pool. That's, ~uh, ~in walking distance from the villa has~ just been a real game changer.~

[00:07:27] Ryan Mellon: ~It's~ helped me be more productive and also, ~um, ~help me networking with other digital nomads and meeting other people as well. So, yeah, I hope you guys are having an amazing week and have a good, ~uh, ~good week this week and, ~and hopefully, um, ~ We'll talk to you soon. Have a good one.
