What if real freedom isn't about adding more to your life but about what you're brave enough to subtract?

Host Ryan is making a bold move, sharing why he's hitting a temporary pause to go deeper instead of wider with his work.

You'll hear about his time learning Spanish, connecting with the expat community in Mérida, and why this ancient city keeps pulling him back.

Ryan reveals where he's headed next, a Southeast Asian country he's somehow missed for years despite spending months in the region.

Listen and discover the mindset shift that separates people who dream about becoming digital nomads from those who actually build sustainable freedom.

[00:00:00] Ryan Mellon: What's up everyone? Welcome to Digital Nomad Nation, nomad notes edition where I give you a sneak peek of what's happening into my daily life as a digital nomad. And this is where I share what's going on, the work, the travel, and the decisions behind everything. And I wanted to start by saying, this may be the last episode I put out for a while.

[00:00:22] Ryan Mellon: More on that in a minute. I've been living and hanging out for the past five to six weeks in Mérida, [00:00:30] Mexico, uh, one of my favorite cities in all of Mexico. hanging out by the pool, soaking up the sun, uh, working, meeting new people. The city is just full of incredible architecture, historic mansions, great food, great people.

[00:00:44] Ryan Mellon: It's one of those places that just has really good energy. And I also spent a week doing immersive Spanish classes. I already had a decent base of Spanish, over the years of my time here in Mexico. It's probably my 15th visit to [00:01:00] Mexico, uh, one of my favorite countries. So, um, my teacher, uh, zeroed in on all my Weak spots. Uh, while I was learning some more Spanish, uh, last week, which was humbling, but also really helpful. Being able to connect with locals beyond just Google Translate makes such a huge difference when you're traveling and living abroad. At the same time, I've been going deeper into my work, improving the masterclass, uh, working closely with my one-on-one clients.

[00:01:28] Ryan Mellon: Coming back to a place like Mérida [00:01:30] makes that so much easier. I don't feel the pressure to see everything or do the tour, see things. I know the city already. I know the coffee shops, how to get around the coworking spaces, where to meet people, and I can just live and focus here. I've also been attending weekly meetups with other expats and digital nomads here, which has been really great.

[00:01:50] Ryan Mellon: there's a WhatsApp and Facebook community here and they meet three times a week for dinner and drinks. Super easy to connect and, and just kinda. Just pop right [00:02:00] in, to the community here in M And one of the big reasons I'm taking a pause on the podcast is because I wanna go deeper, not wider in my work.

[00:02:09] Ryan Mellon: So I wanna spend more time helping the people who are already taking action, whether it's those who have bought the masterclass or my one-on-one coaching clients. Just having more time and energy devoted to them is what's important. that's really, begun to pick up and so. That's where I am gonna be [00:02:30] spending a lot of my time and energy.

[00:02:31] Ryan Mellon: Now, I'm also going to be heading back to the States for just a couple days till I get, back on a plane. I'm headed off to the Philippines and it's a place I wanted to visit for years. I've spent a lot of time in Southeast Asia. I, somehow I have never made it to the Philippines, so that's what's coming up next.

[00:02:52] Ryan Mellon: in the past I've always got stuck in Thailand or, Singapore or Malaysia or, Vietnam and definitely [00:03:00] Bali as well, and I just like never made it to the Philippines. So I'm gonna start there and, I'm very excited for that. Wanna check out the islands and then after that, who knows where I'll go next.

[00:03:11] Ryan Mellon: Before I wrap this up, I just wanna say thank you. If you've been listening from the beginning, leaving a review, sending messages, it genuinely means a lot.

[00:03:20] Ryan Mellon: If there's one thing I hope you take away from this pause, it is this, freedom isn't just about what you add to your life, it's about what you subtract. So knowing what to stop [00:03:30] doing so that you can go all in on what actually matters is a huge part of becoming location independent and building a life on your own terms. So if you've been on the fence, I challenge you to make a move. Whether I help you or not, it doesn't matter. I just wanna see you living a life that feels aligned.

[00:03:46] Ryan Mellon: And intentional.
