Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Sonic Hitchhiker podcast dedicated to all things strange, mysterious and just plain out of the ordinary. Your guide on this audio odyssey is Billy Shadow. Billy's travels and experiences have led him to witness exorcisms, cult mind control events, ghosts and other supernatural phenomena. It is because of his interest in these experiences that this podcast was created. And now your host, billy Shadow.

Speaker 2:

Welcome into the season premiere and the very first edition of the Sonic Hitchhiker podcast. I am David Fine. Normally you hear me behind the scenes, I push all the buttons, but today is a very special time to introduce a great musician, a great person and a man who's going to have a lot of stories. I've gotten a lot of questions on social media at the Sonic Hitchhiker Podcast on Instagram. Personally, people have asked me in passing what is the Sonic Hitchhiker Podcast about? And the man that can tell you everything about the podcast is the one the only Billy Shadow. Mr Shadow, welcome into your podcast. And have you gotten a lot of questions? I've gotten a lot of questions just in general and I've kind of briefly told them what I think the show is going to be about. But kind of give your background I know it's about psychics, preachers, ghost hunters, you name it. We're going to talk about it Kind of give the public just a little deep dive into your background and what the show is going to be about each and every week.

Speaker 3:

Well, I also have had a lot of questions on what the podcast is going to be about, even though we do have it out there, a brief summary of what it will be about, if you've listened to the introduction. However, that is a good question. I would say a little bit of everything is what I hope this podcast will be about, but not just anything. I mean a lot of things rolled up into things that are unusual, mysterious, maybe questionable Anything from UFOs to ghost hunters, from preachers to atheists. I love anything that is different and not according to the norm. That's what interests me. I don't like boring, and I find all of these subjects that we hopefully will be talking about quite a bit and we will not, so boring and, as a matter of fact, very interesting for people like me. So, if you like those type of topics, things that make you think, things that make you wonder what else is out there that we don't know about, or what is here on this planet of ours that we don't know about, and people in general, there are a lot of people walking around that we see every day, that we have no idea what their story is. I love talking to, for instance, homeless people. I love. Sometimes I'll just sit down and talk to one homeless one, like they're not people. I'll sit down and talk to a homeless person and a lot of times you'll find out this person is super intelligent, super smart. They're out here maybe not for the reasons we think they are, and sometimes you will get very interesting stories. So there are a lot of interesting people out there, not just homeless people. I'm not meaning to pick on homeless people. There are a lot of people I talk to. That just interest me and you ask about my background. You ask about what type of life I've had, or you alluded to that, and I am blessed to have had quite an interest in life. I grew up with a religious background. My parents I'm one of nine children we were forced, is the word, because you didn't really have a choice to go to church. Quite often we were forced to read the Bible most every day. So I've read the Bible through and through many times Again, not that I had a choice, but when I got older and kind of got on my own and out of the religious movement, I studied the Bible for myself and I found a lot of interesting things in there that I had never seen before, including since I'm very interested and always have been, in ghosts, ufos, the paranormal. I find a lot of that in the Bible, that people that they just overlook and they just don't want to discuss those subjects. That seem a little too odd. Now, one purpose of this podcast or one particular theme of the podcast for instance, we'll have maybe two podcasts where I will talk to a preacher who knows his Bible and ask him things and I'm giving an example of maybe one of the shows that hopefully we'll get to and say, look, do religious people believe in UFOs, do religious people believe in the paranormal? And if they were to say, no, I know my Bible enough to go and say, well, what about this? What about that Kind of pick their mind on that and get there, and I think that would be a very interesting conversation.

Speaker 3:

I myself, as a kid, experienced I've only had one experience with ghosts. I've had one when I was I want to say I was 10 years old, at nine or 10. And this this may explain to why I'm so interested, because I've never been able to explain this particular thing to happen to me. I used to stay at my grandmother's house. We did me and my siblings. My mom would my dad was would drop us off at my grandmother's house in Chattanooga, tennessee. She lived in a really old house. Don't really know if that has anything to do with what happened or not, but one night particularly and she was a very religious woman and believed in demons and believed in spirits not necessarily ghosts but one night I was watching TV with my grandfather, who went to bed and left me on the couch in this big living room of this old house. I remember sometime early in the morning it may have been 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning, not really sure now it's so long ago but I'll never forget becoming really cold. I was laying there on the couch and just had a blanket on me. Someone had been kind enough to put a blanket on top of me, but I was really cold and unusually cold, because it wasn't winter, it was the summer. And I woke up and sat up on the couch and looked don't know what made me look to the front door and there were three people standing there, all white, not like, not like the typical ghost you see in movies. They were dressed in clothes, but they were all white and all three, and I wanted to this day. I'm not sure if it was three men, if it was a woman and two, I have no idea, but I just know it was three people.

Speaker 3:

When you see something out of fear, you don't necessarily look at detail so much, you're just struck with fear. But I remember seeing those three at the front door. I sat up on the couch and saw them and my first instinct was to close my eyes and lay back down, put the covers over my head which I did, hoping that it was a dream, to the point to where I started pinching myself just to make sure it was a dream, which that's almost instinctual, I believe. When you have a nightmare, you want to wake up from it. But I remember laying there doing that, realizing that, no, I am awake. I sat up because my curiosity got the best of me. I had to know that this was my imagination, that it was not real. So I set up, looked toward the front door. Not only were they still there, they were about halfway closer. That must have been really scary.

Speaker 3:

Oh, now, as cold as I was, I start sweating Cold sweats, I think they call it and I'm shaking and I can't speak. I want to scream for my grandmother and I can't speak. I want to scream for my grandmother and I can't do anything. I'm frozen. Anyone that's ever been in a situation like that whether it's with something they can't explain, or a dog or anything that they know they're possibly in danger sometimes you freeze, there's flight or fight. Well, I couldn't move, I just watched them.

Speaker 3:

When I finally got the nerve to lay back down, which I did, I rolled up, I curl up in a ball, rolled, and I was sweating. At this point I was on the verge of crying. I wasn't crying, but I was on the verge of it, couldn't say anything. My mouth was dry, cotton mouth bad. Rolled up, put the covers back over my head, laid there. I don't know how long I laid there, but eventually again, you can't just lay there forever. So I decided to take the covers off and look. When I looked, this time they were right there at the couch and where, their hands outstretched, all three of these beings. Well, I, finally the voice that was in my, that was that was in me that wanted to come out and scream for my grandmother finally came out. It just broke loose and she runs in turns the light on. They disappear From that day on at her house, I couldn't sleep with the lights off because I knew there was, something, had been in there and I couldn't sleep with it.

Speaker 3:

Now, whether or not they were ghosts, spirits, angels, I'm not sure Because, again, there are a lot of things that we can explain and not everyone sees any something like this. People go through their whole life without having an unusual event like that, but I've had a few, and that's one of them, and that's always stuck with me and I've always wondered what that was, what that meant. So I do believe in something else out there and I have not just from a religious aspect which we were taught that there's a heaven, there's hell and there's angels, there's a devil was taught that from a youth. Now there are other religions that teach similar things, which I'm not opposed to. I consider myself Christian, but I have a very open mind because, just like I believe about life here on this planet, for us to think there's absolutely nothing else out there is very egotistical of us maybe.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I mean, there's definitely some other life on other planets. And when we were talking earlier you know talking about the podcast and what you wanted to do you kind of threw out the name Art Bell.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I love Art Bell.

Speaker 2:

That is a great comparison, coast to coast, coast to coast.

Speaker 3:

It would be an honor if I even were to come close to the no pun intended shadow of someone like that, because to me he was never afraid to deal with anything odd or out of the ordinary, but he never listened to people and made fun of them. That was something that I found very interesting, even though you knew for sure that a lot of people he talked to he talked to a vampire one time. That was really serious, that that's who they were, and he didn't make fun of them. He didn't say, oh that's, you know, that's BS. He said what makes you think that and the explanation he would get would be so over the top, but yet he would continue.

Speaker 3:

And that's one thing I liked about him. He was very open minded but at the same time entertaining, was very open-minded but at the same time entertaining. Those shows helped me many a night when I was traveling for work and would listen to that coast-to-coast AM and he died not I want to say maybe 10 years ago Big smoker, I believe he was, and it may have been lung cancer or a heart attack, I can't remember, but anyway, yeah, one of my heroes in radio for sure was Art Bell.

Speaker 2:

I mean, he was definitely a different type of me. But if you could be compared to Art Bell, I'm not sure if our listeners of the show may not know who Art Bell is. Just folks, if you're listening right now, click the subscribe button, because this is going to definitely be an interesting show, and look up Art Bell.

Speaker 3:

Just to give you a preview our first two guests hopefully everything seems to be lining up that way. The first two guests Hopefully everything seems to be lining up that way. One of the first two guests that we will have on the on the next show is one of them is someone who has experienced the supernatural in her home and, as a matter of fact, they had an investigator come in and check it out. A ghost hunter came in. There were some very eerie things going on in her home. We will be talking to people like that. After that podcast, we'll have a preacher on. So you can see the contrast. But when I say we're having a preacher on, I'm sure that many people listening will be like I don't want to hear any more of that churchy stuff. No, no, no. The idea of having someone like that on is to dig into their mind, their religious mind, and find out what they think about. Haven't you ever wanted to ask a preacher what do you think about UFOs? What do you think about ghosts? What do you think about the paranormal? What do you think about reincarnation? As I say, this Preacher will be of the Christian faith. However, I'm willing to talk to all religions. I'm willing to talk to atheists. I would love to have an atheist and a religious person on to compare notes. I'm very open-minded, very willing to hear what anyone has to say on any subject. There's a lot that I don't know, but I'm curious about and very open-minded about, so this is going to be a fun ride. I'm really looking forward to future episodes, not only hopefully will it be entertaining for the people listening, for the audience, but selfishly I've always wanted to talk to people like this and I feel like having this podcast will give me a good reason to talk to these people and to search them out. The biggest part is searching them out and I hope that for a while they'll come to us.

Speaker 3:

I would also like to say that if any of you listening as the audience grows, if you have a story of your own, if you know someone who has a story, an unusual story or an unusual person that you may know, in the comment section obviously don't put your personal number or any of that, but we will have a way to get in touch with us on the podcast. If you have anyone that you would like to bring on to the show or that you would recommend to have on the show, or you yourself may want to be on. We can do it Zoom Skype, possibly over the telephone. I prefer video, not that this podcast will be video. However, it's nice when you can see the person face to face and talk to them, and there's a lot in facial expressions, too, that allow you to ask the next question. That's very important.

Speaker 3:

That's also going to be a big part of this show is you guys recommending people giving us your stories, possibly even being on the podcast yourself? So I'm looking forward to that too. Hopefully we'll get a lot of response to that. This is going to be a fun show, guys. It's going to be a lot of interesting topics, and if you're into this stuff, like I am, that we've been talking about, I think you'll really enjoy it, and I hope you will.

Speaker 2:
