What if the divine and the mysterious are closer than you think? From the quaint streets of Chattanooga, Tennessee, I, Billy Shadow, invite you on an enthralling journey through tales of glowing beings that shattered my childhood perception of reality. Joined by the insightful Daniel Van Cleave, we unravel these otherworldly experiences and discuss their striking parallels with biblical narratives, where fear and reassurance often accompany encounters with the celestial. Inspired by the vivid depictions in Frank Peretti's novels, we ponder the eternal battle between good and evil, and how these encounters can illuminate truths beyond our comprehension.

Transformations, exorcisms, and the intriguing dynamics of supernatural warfare await you in our candid discussions. Hear about a young woman's profound change after an exorcism and a chilling account of demons seemingly transferred to a dog. These stories prompt us to question the very nature of demons: are they chaotic rebels or something far more complex? As we explore these spiritual skirmishes, we reflect on the possibility of turning malevolent events into forces for good, much like the narrative of the freed demoniac who defied the darkness to become a guiding light in his community. Join us to gain insights into the unseen battles that quietly shape our existence.

The one-on-one sit-down interview with Billy Shadow and Daniel Van.

Speaker 2:

Cleave continues now.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Sonic Hitchhiker Podcast Dedicated to all things strange, mysterious and just plain out of the ordinary. Your guide on this audio odyssey is Billy Shadow. Billy has led a life full of experiences that have put him on his current path, from his humble beginnings in the ghettos of southwest Georgia to the Great Plains of Oklahoma. Billy has led a life full of experiences. As a youth, billy traveled with his family on a bus while his father preached in churches across the country. As a young man, billy spent time in the military, became an entrepreneur, met and worked with multiple celebrities, became a singer-songwriter. Billy's travels and experiences have led him to witness exorcisms, cult mind-control events, ghosts and other supernatural phenomena. It is because of his interest in these experiences that this podcast was created. And now your host, billy.

Speaker 2:

Shadow, I want to ask you this now. We talked about UFOs and we kind of got off track, but in a good way, I think. I think it's very interesting. People hopefully will find it that way.

Speaker 2:

As a child and this is in one of my episodes I don't know if you listen to any of them, but one of my episodes I talk about something that happened to me as a child that I've never been able to explain and I want your opinion of it. Happened to me as a child that I've never been able to explain and I want your opinion of it Staying at my grandfather's house grandmother and grandfather's house in Chattanooga, tennessee, during the summer. Sometimes my dad don't ask me what he did. He would drop us off and I'm one of nine kids and of course there weren't nine at the time, but I was I always want to say nine, but I think I was 10 years old, but one summer and I've told this story in a previous episode so I won't go into too many details but we were dropped off as usual. On occasion we would get dropped off and my dad would go do his thing and my mom and the family would stay there at my grandmother's house in Chattanooga, tennessee, really old house, and one night I fell asleep on the couch and I saw three beings, all glowing white, at the front door, hands outstretched. They didn't look what we would call evil or they didn't look malicious in any way, but they scared me as a child. You're not used to seeing something like that and I saw them and I remember doing everything I could to wake up, thinking this must be a dream. Every time I looked again, they were just closer to the. Eventually they were right over me. When I, when I sat up on the couch, they were right there, clear as day.

Speaker 2:

Three, three beings male, female, I don't know, but beings of light would be accurate because they were literally glowing, with their hands outstretched and smile. I do remember them smiling. They again, they didn't look mean, terrified, but they terrified me because who sees that? Once the lights came on, they disappeared. There was no doubt that I was awake. I don't know what that was I I I've said ghosts, but I don't know. I don't know what form. Throughout the Bible, people come to people and spirits come to people in different forms, whether it's animals, beams of light, voices. Were you afraid what?

Speaker 3:

was your emotion.

Speaker 2:

I was afraid because I think anyone that would see something that you can't explain like that out of the blue would be frightened. I think even an adult. I was a kid, but even as an adult I'll be honest. If I tonight lay in my bed and there's three things that show up, yeah, I'm afraid the Bible mentions that if you have this, that fear is not of God.

Speaker 3:

So that's also something that Michael the archangel showed up to Mary. Why did he tell her don't be afraid?

Speaker 2:

Because she would be afraid.

Speaker 3:

She was peeing down both legs.

Speaker 2:

She was terrified.

Speaker 3:

I'm just I mean it's a good point.

Speaker 2:

It's a good point.

Speaker 3:

In Scripture, the terror. I think it opened my eyes. I would recommend reading some Frank Peretti novels. If you've not read any of those, they're obviously fictional. But Frank Peretti, piercing the Darkness, this Present Darkness.

Speaker 3:

He really features and highlights in his book the battle between good and evil the battle between good, as in the messengers of God, these angels, the angels that Jesus said in the Gospels, that the angels of the children come to him daily on their behalf. So I believe we have assignment angels that have an assignment over us for protection, according to what Jesus alluded to. The children certainly do, but I think equally, not necessarily as powerful, and I think Frank Paredes does a very good job of featuring the battle that goes on between those that oppose and force, and I mentioned before I've seen them both. I picked up a hitchhiker one time I don't pick up hitchhikers, Don't recommend picking up hitchhikers Passed him Overwhelming draw to turn around and go back and get that dude. He was a milky skininned black dude with blue eyes. So I unholstered my .357 Magnum, I stuck it under my leg and I had my left hand on it under my leg ready in case he was a predator Right.

Speaker 2:

But you had this overwhelming desire to pick him up, regardless of the fear that you most certainly had, since you had a pistol.

Speaker 3:

I picked him up. Yeah, yeah, he gets in my truck. I mean, he pulls a knife and tries to cut. I'm going to shoot him.

Speaker 2:

But something in your head said I've got to go pick this guy up.

Speaker 3:

Yes, sir, I know now it was the Holy Spirit. So he told me. He said put your sword away, I come in peace. And let me tell you, when he spoke to me, he said there was no more fear. He said that. He said put your sword away, I come in peace the hitchhiker and I pulled.

Speaker 2:

That's interesting I pulled.

Speaker 3:

I pulled my 357 magnum out from under my leg. Yeah, I holstered it. I stuck it back in my door and we had about a 30-minute ride where he began to tell me about all kinds of relationships that I had. He knew everybody I knew, not just in that city but other cities. He had encounters. He told me about an encounter he had with a friend of mine's granddaddy who this, this friend, had been dead for. I mean this grandpa, his grandpa had been dead for 30 years and but this guy, um, you know that that was 27, 28 years ago. It's been a while but, um, but it blew my mind and and so I'm thinking, okay, he could be a prophet, he could be an angel. I'm thinking he's an. He could be a prophet, he could be an angel, I'm thinking he's an angel. But I knew he was an angel.

Speaker 3:

When he disappeared we were, he told me to drop him off at. I picked him up in Camilla, georgia, heading South. He told me to drop him off at the farmer's market. I said farmer's market's closed, bro, and he goes. Yeah, I said where are you headed? And he said I'm headed to the train station. I said well, I'm taking you to the train station and he goes you're going the extra mile, bless you. I take him to the train station about a mile away and he said God bless you.

Speaker 3:

I don't think I touched him. I wanted to. He opened the door, steps out, shuts the door. I got out of my truck. There's nobody around.

Speaker 3:

We're in a parking lot in Thomasville, georgia, at the train station. I got out of my truck because I wanted to shake his hand. I got out of my truck, dude was gone. I got down on all fours. I look under the truck because I thought, okay, I'm a realist. Dude just crawled under my truck. What's going on? But I knew. I knew what it was. I had entertained an angel.

Speaker 3:

You know, I've seen that in other people's lives. I've had people come to me. One mother that was trying to rock her child to sleep and her child was a couple of months old never spoke a word. First word out of the child's mouth was after the mother realized that the child was moving its head around and watching. And this lamp comes on in the room and the child is what is moving around? Like the mom knows, the child is watching something in the room and she goes OK, yeah, yeah, your angels need to leave this room so you can go to sleep. Now Door shuts and the child speaks and says Gabriel, mom heard Gabriel. Those things you can't explain.

Speaker 3:

So I think there are tons of encounters, both the good. The ones that I like to talk about are the good ones. The ones I don't like to talk about are the ones where I've seen face shifts. I've seen the evil in person's eyes.

Speaker 3:

I've seen sat and did not physically see the demons come out of this girl, but I knew the demons came out of her and some of the demons were witnessed by one of the guys in our group. There's about six or seven of us around her after a church service praying over her and it took her hours to be able to say leave me in Jesus name. She could not say the name Jesus. She would try to form it and it just wouldn't come out. Finally, after hours of battling, pulling her hair out, gritting her teeth, screaming, carrying on, these demons came out and I was always baffled because they knocked a dude over my friend named Cordy. They knocked Cordy over. Cordy's the only one that saw physically, saw dozens of them leave hurt. They knocked him on his back, hurt him. He hurt the back of his head, he was terrified, he was a wreck and I thought that messes my theology up, because I don't believe a Christian can be physically accosted by a demon. I don't believe a Christian can.

Speaker 2:

Oh. But Daniel, you should know. You know this now for sure, but back then maybe not. But you know, in the New Testament Jesus' disciples, there was a devil hanging out in the graveyard in the form of a man. And because the disciples were pretty cocky, they thought, because we're hanging out with this guy, jesus, who does all of these miracles and cast out demons and can tell a fig tree to die and such. And he did at one time say you know, if you had the faith, you would be able to do what I do if you had the faith I had. The problem is they didn't have the faith he had. But at one point there's this guy running around in the graveyard everyone was afraid of, and of course he was possessed with a demon and several devils, apparently legions, yes and uh. The disciples take it on themselves to be exorcist and they're going to go out and try to do this themselves without the man in charge, which who was Jesus, and when they did, he beat the crap out of them.

Speaker 3:

So much, so yeah, that at all I definitely believe that that um, someone can be possessed by a demon and that person can attack. I watched um a physical attack, a physical attack where exponential strength, where he was throwing grown Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial artists. He was throwing them all over the place the human body.

Speaker 2:

Let me go back to my point real quick. Sorry about that.

Speaker 3:

Go ahead my buddy Cordy, struggled for the longest. Why was Cordy not? Why was Cordy hit for the longest? Why was Cordy not? Why was Cordy hit? Well, all of a sudden? I mean, he's terrified, he's a mess.

Speaker 3:

I've seen other encounters to where my beliefs are that you cannot be possessed by the spirit of God and possessed by the spirit of Beelzebub or Satan or Lucifer or whatever you want to call it. And so Cordy, several years later, posted on Facebook hey, I just realized I was lost, called out to Jesus. I'm free. I've never. And I called him. I was like what, man, that's crazy.

Speaker 3:

So I go back to that encounter where this young lady by the way, the demons left her To the extent. This was a Saturday night. Sunday morning she walked into the hall of the church and I walked up to her and introduced myself. Her eyes were blue. The night before they were brown, totally different complexion, totally different girl. It took me minutes to be able to recognize her, to really truthfully accept, and I had spent hours in a circle with her, pleading with her and trying to help and coach her to be free.

Speaker 3:

But yeah, you know, I think of, I think of. So I definitely believe you can be jumped and mauled and even killed by a demon-possessed person. But I don't think that. I think that demon has to occupy something, whether it's a dog.

Speaker 3:

For instance, my brother engaged a demon-possessed man as a deacon at a church, went with one of the pastors and this demon-possessed man was running on all fours around the house barking, crawled under the bed when they got there and they're calling out to him to be freed and calling out to him to, and his wife is terrified. I mean, this dude is. They should not have gone with just the two of them. This was a very dangerous situation. Well, this guy the pastor's, commanding the demons to leave him. Which is between him and the Lord.

Speaker 3:

I don't think that that is a good. Unless the Lord told him to do that Maybe he did. The guy takes off, tears out the back door, runs through the yard, runs up and grabs this dog by the ears my brother David witnessed this and Pastor Andy Grabs the dog, pulls the dog's snout up to his mouth and he begins to convulse and begins to carry on. The dog starts. They disengage. The dog starts barking, carrying on, breaks, the chain, runs off and they find the dog dead on. Breaks, the chain runs off and they find the dog dead. It was their belief that that person transferred those demons to that dog.

Speaker 2:

Well, yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 3:

Humans I believe they can possess. You know, in the demoniac that you mentioned, the demons asked to be sent to the pigs, to the swine, and it was perhaps hundreds of them, maybe maybe thousands, I don't know. But um, um, they went and entered those pigs and they run off into the, into the sea, and drown. But but, but, when they get into the sea, guess what's in the sea? Lots of fishies, lots of other beings that they can. They can get in those other beings and they can transport to to um other places, maybe a fisherman, maybe a fisherman's, pulling a net in, and all of a sudden they jumped from that fish to that, to that human, I mean that's. I don't have any proof of that, but that's my thoughts on that. I studied that and thought that you know for years.

Speaker 2:

But no, I, I, I, uh, I want to. I don't know how much time you have, daniel, just let me know when you're ready to go um again. You can always come back again and tell other story, because I find this stuff fascinating.

Speaker 3:

I hope other people do as well, so you tell me I want to address the things you want to address.

Speaker 2:

I've got a few more minutes okay, okay, all right, well, I well, we, this. This may be the last subject we talk about, because that's that's fascinating enough on its own, but I too, I want to. I want to relay a story to you and let you and see what your thought on this, based on your story about the dog, which is fascinating. Wow, that's, that's. That's something else, and I do believe that if, if, god, if, if, if it is a spiritual, the Bible says a spiritual warfare, and I'm using the Bible because we both that's our part of our faith. So the Bible does claim spiritual warfare.

Speaker 2:

Dark and light. Satan at one time was an angel of light and still apparently tries to. And I want to ask you this question if Satan wants to be Christ-like, if he wants to come off as an angel of light, are these demons that do all these ridiculous things and attack people? Obviously you're not going to want to believe in something that attacks you and tries to hurt you. What would you think demons are? If Satan is the master? Are the demons rebels? What's going on? What do you think is going on in that?

Speaker 3:

Look at the people around demon possession. Let's take the demoniac. You brought him up. He's probably in a graveyard. He's chained, he's naked. He's running around like a raging lunatic. I mean, he's messed up. He's a miracle he lives. But you look at all of the people around him. There's a village. These people are certainly not Jewish, because Jews did not handle pigs, so they are certainly what the Bible calls Gentiles. Their livelihood is the pigs. They're raising the pigs for their support, just to provide for their family. But they're looking around and they're seeing this crazy man that's foaming at the mouth and dangerous.

Speaker 2:

He's a terrorizer. He's terrorizing people.

Speaker 3:

He's terrorizing them. Imagine the story when, all of a sudden, this man walks up and, by the way, if you remember, after he's freed he wants to go with Jesus and Jesus says no, you don't come with me, you stay here. Why did he want him to stay there? He wanted him to make disciples of that village. He had a story. He had a story where he had gone through hell, hard times, crazy encounters, and that story in that, that whole scenario, no doubt drew people to a holy God and a reverent God.

Speaker 3:

What the devil often means, what the enemy, satan you know we call him all kinds of things what he means for evil. The Bible tells us that God means for good and he brings about good. And I think, billy, the danger that we face as men, as Christians, as whether you're Christian or not, the danger we face is that I think we saw it coming up in our upbringing is not just just because you have a flutter in your stomach or you have an unction or a sense to do something. That doesn't mean you need to go do it. Many to sit on, many to wait, and I think a lot of mistakes are made on the altar of. I'm going to do this because this is what I felt, this is what I sense, this is what I'm supposed to do. This because this is what I felt, this is what I sensed, this is what I'm supposed to do. Well, you better make sure the timing is right. I think often we mess up the timing and we mess up the context. You mentioned the Bible can be manipulated, I think. I think it's taken out of context in so many scenarios and because we don't see the raw picture.

Speaker 3:

I'd like to finally say this, and I just as a, as a rule of thumb, I want to challenge your listeners to, to, to make, make decisions from the rocking chair, make decisions from your 90 year old person, from your 90-year-old person. You're 90-something years old For me. I'm sitting I hoped it was Tennessee I want to sit in the mountains, I'm on this porch and I'm just rocking. I'm 90-something years old. I want to look back on my life from that 90-year-old rocking chair and I want to be able to, to see certain things, I want to be able to have experience certain things, but there's things that I don't need to rock in that chair and process and if I'm not careful, we can make terrible mistakes based on what we feel or what we sense, because we move too soon and God is aligning all of these phenomenas. You mentioned the Red Sea. You mentioned Balaam's donkey, you know all these mosaic laws and all this stuff. I mean, just even last week I saw a Red Sea. I mean it was small, no big, no big deal, but I think it's going to be a big deal.

Speaker 3:

I'm standing here in the office and somebody mentions the bank and all of a sudden I realize, oh, I've got to go by and do this at the bank and I totally forgot about an appointment that I had, which is not usual for me. I'm very punctual, I want to be on time. So all of a sudden I'm at the bank and I'm reckless, I'm not thinking about this appointment that I have. So I get to the bank and as soon as I pull up in the bank, I look and I see one of my old buddies sitting in a car. He's on the phone, he waves. I'm like Albert, that was good to see him. I need to call him. I go on in the bank. Well, he comes in the bank. We start talking. Long story short, he and I are involved in three commercial development projects.

Speaker 2:

Right, now from that happenstance appointment.

Speaker 3:

We're standing there talking, we're exchanging numbers and hey, let me help you something down the road. You know anything I can do for you? And all of a sudden my appointment calls me and says, hey, where are you at? And I was like, oh, I'm so sorry, I'll be there in 10 minutes, I'm so sorry. So the next day this guy calls me and says, hey, he said, and I quote, I don't think it was happenstance that we ran into each other yesterday. He said would you take a look at this post office renovation? Would you take a look at this restaurant I need fixed? Are you interested in doing this development? All of a sudden it's blown into all these projects. I think the Lord aligned that and that's a small little bitty parting of the sea, but that we could sit here and talk all day long of many, many encounters much greater than that from you know, having a flat tire, having to pull over, and then, next thing you know, there's this catastrophic accident down the way where there's a 25 car pile up.

Speaker 2:

Oh, we could we could, we could, we could have that discussion for for hours.

Speaker 2:

Yes, yes, I want to. I want to say something to you before we get out of here, and this is something that is important to me and I think it's important for the listeners as well. Where we live is between our two ears, ultimately, and I also think that's where the your lives. And if you notice, in the scripture that we talk about with the man in the graveyard who is possessed, there is something that is said when the demons are out of him that is mentioned. That, I think, is probably the most important thing that comes out of that whole experience, which is when the demons are out of him and the Bible says that people couldn't believe it because they saw him sitting around in his right. What?

Speaker 3:

Right mind.

Speaker 2:

Exactly that's what you got to protect, that's what we all have to protect, because, in the end, that's where we live and if anything is going to possess us, that's where it's going to possess us at. And that's another we live and that, if anything is going to possess us, that's where it's going to possess us at. And that's another story for another day. Because let me tell you something, for the mind is is, can be, the most powerful thing that you have, but it can also be, but it is also, the most vulnerable thing that you have, and that's for the children, that's for the adults, that's for all of us. Daniel, I want to really appreciate, I want to tell you how thankful I am that you have, and that's for the children, that's for the adults, that's for all of us. Daniel, I want to really appreciate, I want to tell you how thankful I am that you came on here today.

Speaker 1:
