On December 1, 2025 LNP, Lancaster’s local daily newspaper, ran an article about itself called “Nonprofit led by veteran journalist David Greene to acquire LNP | LancasterOnline”. The article announced plans for a new nonprofit to take over all of the newspaper’s assets as a gift from the current owner, Pennon, which also runs WITF, the National Public Radio affiliate station based in Harrisburg. I had an opportunity to chat with David about his history growing up here in Lancaster, his time working at The Baltimore Sun and NPR, and his vision for the future of LNP.
At the time of our conversation, the transfer of assets had still not been approved by the state Attorney General’s office, but David was optimistic that it would happen soon.

100 years ago, in 1925, a professional baseball team called the Harrisburg Giants played Sunday games right here in Lancaster at Rossmere Baseball Park, which is now the site of Lancaster Catholic High School. The team featured hall of fame players and those games are now considered major league. Baseball historian Jeremy Raff joined us to tell the story of the Harrisburg Giants' time in Lancaster, along with a celebration of these games in partnership with other local organizations like the Lancaster Stormers. Stormers president Michael Reynolds also joined the conversation to give us the history of team and their stadium, Penn Medicine Park, that has been a staple in the community for over 20 years.

This is the first in a series of episodes we’re introducing that we’ll periodically sprinkle into the feed called the So Good Lancaster Non-Profit Spotlights. On this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with Susan Klapkin, the vice chair and treasurer of Lancaster County Women for Good, a local nonprofit giving circle with a mission of lifting up other nonprofit organizations that are making a positive impact in our community. This group of over 200 Lancaster Women use a giving circle model where small donations are collected and distributed as a lump sum grant to one of three nonprofits that pitch at a quarterly Gather and Grant event.
