Social Costs: The New Public Benefit Charge?
In Connecticut, lawmakers are considering a bill, House Bill 5004: An Act Concerning the Protection of the Environment and the Development of Renewable Energy Sources and Associated Job Sources. This bill would introduce social pricing, which would raise the cost of all fossil fuels—gasoline, natural gas, home heating fuel, propane, and diesel—while promoting more expensive green energy alternatives.
