Ep. 16 Revolutionizing Men's Health in Virginia Beach with Bree and Jim Mueller
Bree and Jim Mueller are revolutionizing men's health in Virginia Beach, and they're here to share their incredible journey. After Jim's retirement, they embarked on a mission to create a family business that gives back to the community, leading to the birth of Gameday Men's Health. Their clinics offer a sanctuary for men addressing often overlooked health issues such as testosterone replacement therapy and erectile dysfunction, with a focus on providing genuine solutions rather than just sales. With their first location at Hilltop thriving since August, and a new branch at Landstowne, Bree and Jim are excited about expanding their reach and impact.
Listeners will not only learn about the services they provide but also get a glimpse into what makes Gameday Men's Health a trusted name in the community. Their esteemed medical director, Dr. Lisa Barr, alongside an experienced team, ensures every client receives personalized care through complimentary consultations and testing. While primarily focusing on men's health, women are also welcomed for non-hormonal treatments. Bree and Jim's commitment to accessible, quality care speaks volumes, and this episode is a compelling look at how they're creating a supportive environment for health and wellness in Virginia Beach.

This is the Good Neighbor Podcast, the place where local businesses and neighbors come together. Here's your host, Denise Taylor.
Speaker 2:Welcome to Good Neighbor Podcast, virginia Beach. Today I am here with Bree and Jim Mueller with Gameday Men's Health here in Virginia Beach Welcome guys. Hey Denise. Hey, how are you? I'm good. Health here in Virginia Beach Welcome guys, hey Denise. Hey, how are you? I'm good. Bree, do you want to share a?
Speaker 3:little bit about how this idea came about in bringing this to Virginia Beach. Of course, yeah, jim had recently retired from a previous industry and wasn't really ready to fully retire, and we wanted to do something together and something that we could pass on to our kids down the line. And so we were looking into a lot of different things and decided also that we wanted to get into a business where we could kind of give back to the community, not just something that would sustain us as a family, but also something that we could better others' lives. And we came across the game day model and got really excited about being able to be in a space that doesn't really have a lot of attention right now and provide services to guys that you know they're kind of lacking and don't really have a safe space to go, a comfortable space to go to talk about things. And now we're providing that and it's just been such a great thing so far. We're so excited as what the future is going to bring.
Speaker 2:Jim, can you elaborate on what those services are?
Speaker 4:About 70 or 80 percent of our business is testosterone replacement therapy and, pretty much like Bree said, the guys haven't had much choice. They go to what we call a T-mill and that's just a facility or an office that they're just there to sell testosterone. We're not here to do that. We're here to find out what the issues are and fix them with our solutions. If testosterone is one of those, fine, so we'll fix that. So testosterone replacement, erectile dysfunction, vitamin therapy, weight loss, musculoskeletal and peptides share a little bit about where you've got two locations.
Speaker 2:Share where those locations are yeah, so we're really excited.
Speaker 4:So the first one we opened it in, uh, august and, by the way, our, our, our staff is extremely talented 20 years of experience with our clinician at hilltop, plus lisa bars, our medical director and anybody knows anybody, they know who Lisa Barr is. She's one of the best MDs in the area. So we have a talented staff. But the first one was Hilltop. We opened August the 12th, and then this is Lansdowne besides the most busy Starbucks, virginia Beach that opened October the 14th, and so we've been here about 75 days and we are going to open a third one right between Kempsville and Chesapeake. We're looking for property right now.
Speaker 2:That's exciting. We are excited to have you guys in the area. Brie, can you share a little bit about what men or women can expect when they come into the facility?
Speaker 3:Yeah, of course, and I'm glad you said it that way, because we are a a men's health clinic that we do treat women. We don't treat the women for the hormonal piece, but for the men. They come in, a lot of our guys, like Jim said, coming for testosterone. But if, for instance, if you came for that, you would come in. We have a lab on site so you get a blood test. We test your testosterone, your PSA and your hemoglobin. You get those results back in about 20 minutes and then you can sit with our provider, talk about any goals or concerns you may have, and all of that is completely complimentary.
Speaker 3:We'll obviously explain all of the services that we provide and if they're interested in signing up with us, then that's fantastic. There's no contracts with us. We just bill every every four weeks and we feel like we're doing a great job, for these guys are going to keep coming back and for the ladies, I'm pretty much the same. They come in, have a free consult with our provider. She can explain all the services that we offer and they can ask any questions. All that's complimentary and we're happy to have them come in. A lot of them come in with their husbands or, you know the husband will come in and then the next week the wife comes back and maybe she's interested in vitamins or maybe she wants a weight loss package. But it's great when they come in together.
Speaker 2:Jim, do you want to share a little bit about the current special for the spouse?
Speaker 4:Yeah, we're really excited because everybody in the new year they're always trying to. You know new year's resolutions, all the, all the things. So a new year, new you. So our approach is that we're going to give all the guys 20% off medical weight loss and if they sign up with their spouse or significant other, the significant other gets 50% off. These are 12 weeks injection packages and so anyone that has done any research on these things know that that is an amazing offer. We just want to get people healthy, get on the right track and move them right into the springtime feeling really good.
Speaker 2:Absolutely so. One of the things when I've talked to you guys as we're aging, it feels like, oh, I'm just supposed to feel this way because I'm aging. Can you talk a little bit about the myths and conceptions of aging and how we really could be feeling?
Speaker 4:Well, I'll speak because I'm a guy. So the problem with you know, you either have the guy that's 40, 50 years old. He wakes up one day and he feels really bad. This doesn't know why. It hit him like a light bulb Right.
Speaker 4:And then most of the guys are like me, where you're getting older and you just kind of, you live your life and the new normal becomes a new normal and you wake up one day.
Speaker 4:It's like you almost forgot what it was like to feel really good when you were in your 30s and 40s. And so you don't necessarily feel like there's something wrong, you just maybe you maybe can't sleep at night, or you're getting a little bit of gut, you're not getting enough out of your workouts, a little brain fog, you just start. These things became normal over time, and so what happens is you know, until they, you know they educate themselves on what happens to a man's body is particular testosterone, they don't even really know that they could be feeling a whole lot better. And so that's why we do the free consult, free blood work. That's our way of getting guys in here, giving them free blood work, giving them a free consultation. It's an education. We're not here to try to sell them things. We want them to be educated so they can control their health and live their best life.
Speaker 3:I just want to add to that real quick. A lot of these guys coming in have symptoms of depression and they think maybe they need an antidepressant and a lot of the times it's just caused by low T, so the feelings of feeling down and not being interested in doing things, and they think, gosh, you know, I'm just not happy anymore. Well, it's a physical, you know chemical thing going on in their body that they had no idea existed.
Speaker 2:Can you share to that how quickly somebody can start feeling some of these first results of working with you all?
Speaker 3:Yeah. So I mean, obviously it depends on what service you sign up for. A lot of these things, you know, work hormonally, obviously, with your body. So it's not going to be an overnight type of oh I wake up the next day and my testosterone is at a great level. It takes a little bit. We titrate you up to make sure you're at a good level and your body stays there. But additionally we can package it with things like McBee or vitamin B complex so that you can kind of feel those symptoms of having more energy right away, you know. And so then, as you're kind of waiting for your testosterone levels to even out or get to your optimal level, that you have that boost of energy. So, yeah, a lot of our guys feel better as soon as they walk out of the door.
Speaker 2:So we've talked about the clinic. I'm really excited about this being in Virginia Beach. Meeting you two has been just one of the best things this year. Share with the, the listeners, a little bit about what you guys like to do in the community and with your family.
Speaker 4:Well, we're boaters, so anything on the water. We don't necessarily take our boat on a lot of trips, but we do hang out at the dock and we hang out with friends, and so pretty much everything we do revolves around the water Bree. You want to add anything to that?
Speaker 3:Yeah, I was just going to say, plus opening these two clinics and trying to get our name out there, we've really been participating as like a game day sponsor to a lot of the community events. We've been in the area for 20 years anyway, but like, we went to Cheap Fest and we went to the auto show and just getting out there and meeting people and we had the opportunity to partner with the Noblemen and do a toy drive for the holiday season, which was fun, so just made a lot of new people, more people in the community than we had before. We're members of Wave Church, so a lot of people reaching out there. And yeah, as Jim said, we like to go. Our youngest son is in school, at JMU, so we like to go for the football games. Our oldest son graduated from BMI, so we're very proud to have him on board with us at game day. So, yeah, just anything family oriented, that's what we're into.
Speaker 2:So your oldest son is working at both clinics or the Hilltop.
Speaker 3:He was at Hilltop but he went to Landstowne when it opened. He's doing our admin over there for now. He's going to move in to be our marketing director, but we kind of wanted him to get in and learn the business and so the guys love him, they come in and he's a real guys guy. So he's got about all the good stuff and, yeah, he's fantastic. Go in and see him at Lansdowne.
Speaker 2:We are excited to have Gameday Men's Health in the area. Jim, you want to share the two actual addresses of each location.
Speaker 4:Sure. The first one's over at Hilltop. It's right beside Aldi. So if you're looking at Aldi, to the right is a medical building. You go around the north side and they have a dedicated entrance. The address is 933 First Colonial Road, suite 101. The other one is right beside Starbucks at Lansdowne, right off Prince of Sand, great little shopping area. A lot of great restaurants over here. Lansdowne, right off Prince of Sand, great little shopping area. A lot of great restaurants over here. This one is 1933 Lansdowne Centerway, virginia Beach, suite 320. It's a suite, but these are. It's a shopping center. So we're just you'll find Starbucks, you'll find us. And what?
Speaker 2:walk-ins welcome.
Speaker 4:Walk-ins are always welcome. Yep, we get them every day, perfect.
Speaker 2:And then, what's your website, brie?
