Hello, this is The 60 and More Crowd Podcast with Sue Plant.
What was once considered unusual is becoming increasingly common: the Great Unretirement is upon us as 65+ adults are increasingly returning to the workplace!
This trend, often called “unretirement,” is reshaping the way we think about retirement, workforce participation, age inclusive workplaces and employee benefits. In today's episode we are discussing the "unretirement trend" and what it looks like in today's modern workplace.
Hard stop retirement is becoming considerably less common. People returning to work differently and they are reshaping the 65+ workforce: options: full time, part-time, seasonal, consulting, new ventures and flexible roles. What's driving the return to work: often drawn back by financial pressure, a desire for structure, or the opportunity to stay engaged and learning.
Organizations / employers are rethinking how they attract, retain, and support this valuable experienced workforce which is considered a vital asset in many countries. Modern workplaces are adapting to longer working lives in different ways.
In today's episode we will walk through the four pillars supporting the return to work and longer work lives:
- Flexible work models
- Purpose Driven Work
- Continuous Learning
- Workplace Dynamics- highlight: Japan, Switzerland, Canada, United States
