Concerned with road safety, the UK is considering mandatory vision tests for drivers over 70 due to a rise in elderly drivers and related accidents. Currently, older drivers self-certify their fitness to drive every three years. 

The Association of Optometrists advocates for professional eye exams at license renewal, citing tragic incidents involving drivers with poor eyesight. 

Research indicates that visual field loss significantly increases collision risk, highlighting the need for stricter regulations to protect both elderly drivers and the public.
