Hey there everybody. Welcome back to another episode. Today we're going to be diving into a topic that is pretty much the core of every online business right now. Social media. But more importantly, how do you show up consistently online without letting it consume your life?
[00:00:19.540]
Now, if you've been spinning your wheels, trying to post content, write captions, and stay engaged while also, you know, running a business, then this episode is for you. We're going to be talking about what makes captions actually convert, how to simplify your social strategy, and how to help our clients and our listeners get seen and sell without being online 24 7. So are you ready for this? Let's get started.
[00:00:52.660]
Welcome to She Is Unstoppable, the podcast for ambitious women ready to break free from the 9 to 5 and build a life and business they love. I'm your host, Deanna Hinsz, digital marketing strategist, entrepreneur, mentor, and a woman who took the leap from corporate life to full time entrepreneurship and never looked back. I've been where you are and now I'm passionate about showing you how to build and scale a business that works for you. In each episode, we dive into actionable tips, inspiring stories, and real strategies to help you grow your business, boost your confidence and create unstoppable momentum. Whether you're just starting out or ready to elevate to the next level, you're in the right place.
[00:01:36.610]
Let's get started.
[00:01:41.670]
So I want to talk about what I see all the time. Content that looks really pretty, but it doesn't actually do anything. Now you're posting content because you want it to convert. Whether that conversion is sales, whether it's getting your followers or non followers to become a follower, to sign up for your email list, whatever, you've got a call to action and the goal and the reason you spend so much time creating all this content is because you want them to do something. Well, if you're finding yourself in the position like so many others that you post this content but it's not really doing anything, I'm going to tell you the three biggest reasons why.
[00:02:27.210]
The first reason, it's missing a hook. Now I'm going to get into diving. I'll dive into what this means, which each all three of these actually mean. But I'm just going to give it to you right out of the gate. So the first thing is it's missing a hook.
[00:02:42.920]
The second is that there's real no value being shared. And the third, and this is going to be surprising, but it happens more times than not. The call to action Or CTA is either missing or it's really weak. Here's a tip. If you can't explain what the post is supposed to be doing in your strategy, it's just noise.
[00:03:11.600]
So let's break down the formula. Hook value cta, which again is call to action. So when you hear me say cta, that's what it means. A hook. That's what stops people from scrolling.
[00:03:25.120]
So here's a few examples that we've used for clients. If you're still posting without a plan, right. Encourage them to read this or this one tweak helped our clients triple engagement. You've seen these posts before, right? They hit you with that punch right out of the gate.
[00:03:46.790]
And the reason for that is because you only see so many words when you're scrolling. Whether you're on Instagram or Facebook or LinkedIn or TikTok, you don't see the full post. You have to click for more. So you want that first punch out of the gate to get their attention so that they click on it and they continue reading. So another example, using numbers or a listing of some sort always gets attention.
[00:04:13.280]
Or always. But it's a good way to get attention, right? So, for example, three caption mistakes that are costing you sales. Well, I want to read what those caption mistakes are and see if I'm making them, because there's just three. So I might be likely to click on that to read a little bit more.
[00:04:33.480]
Or what about asking that question that you know your ideal client is asking themselves, right? So that's the key of this hook, is that whatever that hook is, it has to speak directly to your ideal client. You know them inside and out, you know what the problems are that they're facing, you know their struggles and you know what solutions they're looking for. So that hook is going to grab their attention. Now, sometimes a hook isn't always about teaching, right?
[00:05:03.760]
It's not three caption mistakes. Or let's be real, social media is exhausting. If you're doing this wrong, sometimes it's storytelling, sometimes it's just an aha moment. But think of your ideal client and open with that hook. Every post should open with a hook.
[00:05:23.360]
Your emails open with the hook. Get their attention so that they want to continue reading more. The difference too is that when we read digitally, we don't always read all the way through like we read a book, right? Let's be honest. We might scroll our best friend's social media page, but we're not reading everything they write unless something jumps out at us and then we might go back and reread the full post.
[00:05:48.590]
That's what that hook does now, the value, right in that. And I kind of. It doesn't always mean that you're teaching, right? I said that it could be a story, but you have to bring value to your ideal client. Give them something that you know, you already know what they want, you already have the solution.
[00:06:09.400]
So bring them value, the storytelling, it could be your own experience, make it a relatable. Maybe it's your client's experience. And then let's go to the call to action, the cta, right? The one thing I hear all the time when I'm talking to one of my clients, usually a consulting client, when I'm teaching them how to create content, is there's this fear of putting that call to action because they don't want to be salesy. They don't want to feel like they just sound like they're begging for sales.
[00:06:43.490]
And I agree, you don't want to come across being salesy. In fact, I think some posts, when you're always asking for the sale and you're never bringing value, then it sounds like you're salesy, right? It feels spammy. There's no value there. But when you incorporate into your strategy, when you're going to ask for the sale, when you're going to ask for engagement, when you're going to ask for them to download your lead magnet or the freebie that you're offering them, right?
[00:07:17.430]
Those are other call to actions or just comment below. Like those are forms of call to actions that you can ask, but there has to be a purpose behind it, right? Obviously if you are asking them to comment or to DM you, you want to nurture that relationship. So ultimately you are leading them down this funnel so that they do convert and they do end up working with you. But when you have that call to action, just be very clear, you know what they're looking for.
[00:07:47.240]
You've already brought them that hook. You got their attention, you brought them value in that post. Now ask them what you want them to do. Tell them what you want them to do.
[00:08:02.280]
If you have an offer that you're off running, right, mention it, Tell them to buy it. I know that sometimes if we have a launch or an offer, we're like, well, they should know. No, it's a common mistake. They don't know. Tell them, tell them to add that.
[00:08:18.610]
So I was working with somebody who was afraid to ask for the add that call to action because to this person. It felt very spammy, very salesy. It didn't feel authentic. She wasn't comfortable really asking for anything. She was very comfortable with the hook.
[00:08:37.840]
She was very comfortable with bringing value because that's what she did. But when you had to ask to contact her for a discovery call that felt like it was salesy or spammy, which it's absolutely not at all. But it was really hard for her to do well, we overcame that and she decided just to give it a shot and to incorporate those call to actions into her content. And she was really surprised and happy that in one day she got three discovery calls. Now, let me be clear.
[00:09:17.430]
We incorporated this into our strategy on day one of asking for the call to action. It did not happen. On day two, it did not happen. I don't honestly remember what day it did happen, but it was the consistency and it was seeing her post and her posts now weren't just about posting something on the fly. What it was about was actually having a strategy, knowing what her goal was for that month, which was discovery calls, and incorporating that into her strategy.
[00:09:48.540]
And when it happened and she got three discovery calls in one day, she understood what we were saying, right? And sometimes that's hard to do when somebody tells you to get uncomfortable. We don't want to. Right. We want to stay in our comfort zone.
[00:10:03.180]
But when you're creating content, remember, you've got to have those three things hook, bring value and have that call to action. So, and I mentioned also about showing up consistently, right? Because that's what it was. She was consistent. She was consistent in showing up.
[00:10:20.980]
She was consistent with the strategy that we created. And that's, that's really equally important. But here's the thing, right? We don't want to be online 24. 7.
[00:10:34.020]
I don't want to be online 24. 7. I love when I unplug. I love when I'm not online. Now, don't get me wrong, I love connecting with my audience.
[00:10:45.170]
I love connecting with clients and prospects and meeting new people online. But when I'm really unplugged, I enjoy it because that's why I'm doing what I do is so that I can spend time doing what I want to do, right? So if you are creating a strategy, right, we've already gave you the three things that you need to do, but we want to help you breathe again. Now, for those listening who may or may not know, I also own Carbon Silk. It's a digital marketing agency.
[00:11:15.140]
It's a boutique agency, right. We're Very small. It's mainly me and a small team that I'm super grateful for. But we work with clients to create this strategy. And the process is pretty much about a strategy session.
[00:11:29.390]
We come up with a content map and then approvals, right? And then the content is done for you and you get the engagement and the insights or I teach you how to do it right, which is part of the consulting. So just want to give you an idea of what that looks like because it's so important. If you're going to spend your time posting on social media, you want to make sure that it's working. You want to make sure you have the key steps.
[00:11:57.380]
And here's the reality, right? Not all of us love Instagram. Not all of us Love Facebook or LinkedIn or TikTok. In fact, when we think about gets overwhelming, we don't like it, we don't enjoy it. We want to spend more time in our own business doing what we do love.
[00:12:16.200]
That's why you're. You started your business. So the reason I'm mentioning Carbon Silk and I'm the reason I'm mentioning the do it for you projects that we worked with with our clients is because you don't have to Love Instagram or TikTok or any of those platforms. You can hand it over, whether it's to Carbon Silk or whether it's over to another company, it doesn't matter. Take it off your plate.
[00:12:40.390]
Do what you honestly love right now. I do understand that maybe early in your business, that's easier said than done when it comes to having that budget, but that's where she is. Collective can teach you how to do it. We've got classes in there that you can sign up for. We have weekly open office hours, so you can ask those questions.
[00:13:03.860]
And it's such a great community. So anyhow, that's my sales pitch to you, but I want to make sure that you understand what needs to be done. So if you're feeling overwhelmed right now with social media, here's what you can do. First off, take a step back and assess your content. Can you tell if it currently has a goal or are you just creating content now?
[00:13:29.640]
Ask yourself, what is the goal of your content? What do you want your audience to do? Whatever that is, right? You should have a goal if you're going to create content now. Second thing is to remember you're allowed to outsource.
[00:13:46.600]
You're allowed to not love Instagram. There's a big difference between being visible and being available 24 7. You can outsource that content and be visible, but you don't have to be available 24 7. Enjoy your life. Focus on your business and everything that you love.
[00:14:07.760]
So three questions that you should ask yourself before you write another caption. Are you ready for this? 1. What's the goal? What is the goal?
[00:14:19.780]
2. What's the takeaway for my audience? That's the value that you're bringing. What do they get? And 3 what action do I want them to take?
[00:14:33.620]
Just 3 questions can completely change your social media game. So if this episode hit home for you, and I have a feeling it did, I want to invite you to take the next step.
