Thrive & Decide Guide to Divorce and Beyond

Bridging Faith and Spirit: Exploring Oracle Cards and Spirituality

Sarah Thress Season 1 Episode 18

Have you ever wondered if your spiritual curiosity conflicts with your religious upbringing? This soul-stirring conversation with Kaylee English, oracle card reader and spiritual guide, illuminates the beautiful harmony between traditional faith and modern spiritual practices.

Kaylee demystifies oracle card reading, explaining how this intuitive practice differs from tarot and fortune-telling. Unlike the structured format of tarot, oracle cards offer flexible interpretations that serve as present-moment check-ins rather than rigid predictions of the future. The parallels between acknowledging guardian angels in traditional faith and connecting with guidance through oracle readings reveal a shared foundation—both honor the protective energies that surround us.

Our dialogue explores how women often lose connection with their authentic selves through marriage, motherhood, and career demands. When we constantly pour from an empty cup, attempting to be everything for everyone else, we deplete our energy and effectiveness. Spiritual practices—whether church-based or alternative—offer pathways back to our core essence. By honoring both our intuitive feminine energy and our action-oriented masculine energy, we find the balance necessary for sustainable fulfillment.

The conversation challenges hustle culture's relentless push for productivity, reminding us that rest isn't laziness—it's essential restoration that actually enhances our output. When we silence our intuition to conform to expectations of constant motion, we sacrifice the quality of our work and our wellbeing. Opening our minds to the possibility that seemingly different spiritual approaches can coexist allows us to embrace the full spectrum of our spiritual nature without abandoning our foundational beliefs.

Ready to explore your own spiritual journey with curiosity rather than judgment? Listen now and discover how reconnecting with your spiritual self might be exactly what you need to thrive in every aspect of life.

Speaker 1:

Hi and welcome to this week's episode of Thrive and Decide.

Speaker 1:

This week I have Kaylee English, who is an amazing friend that I just recently met, but I feel like I've known her forever and we definitely vibed a lot.

Speaker 1:

I had her at an event recently for Thrive and Decide and she was doing oracle cards and I had never had my oracle cards read, so of course I had to do it and I also was very, very curious what is the difference between tarot reading and oracle reading and all things woo? Which then led me to have a conversation with Kaylee about our faith. And you know, I mean I grew up in Oklahoma, the buckle of the Bible belt, where everyone goes to church every Sunday, and you know, and I still am very, very faithful. But I feel like going on this woo journey and I use the word woo just because that's what most people call it, but I call it more of a spiritual awakening I've seen so many things that just are so parallel to what I was raised in and spirituality and God and all of that, that it was so fascinating to me that I wanted to share it with everyone else. So, kaylee, thank you so much for taking time out to jump on here with me.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, of course. Thank you for having me. I'm excited to be here.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so I guess if you want to start you know, cause I'm sure that everyone else out there is like me, like what is the difference between tarot and Oracle? Card reading.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so very good question. I love both. So the way I explain it is, oracle is kind of like Tarot's sister, where Tarot is a set deck. You've got set face value cards that each have their own kind of meaning and then when someone's reading your deck from Tarot, they're kind of interpreting that card that's coming up and what that message can mean for you. Where in Oracle reading each deck is different to the artist, so each deck is going to have different cards and different meanings. So you can kind of get a pull to what deck you want to use, but it uses the same kind of intuitive message. So as you pull up the cards, kind of putting a picture together as to what they're trying to tell you in that moment, what the cards are meaning to you in your life, what the message might be. So both kind of giving an intuitive message, just different modes of delivering that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, absolutely. So how did you kind of get into this? You know, because I know, when we, you know, talked and I, you know, quickly thought of you as like my new best friend, I was like, oh my gosh, this is so cool. But I've always wondered how did you kind of get into this and what kind of drew you to it?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so I've always been drawn to the spiritual woo. I did grow up in church, so obviously I have a faith background, but it always fascinated me and so I was definitely one who dabbled in having other people read my cards and tarot. And then I kind of stumbled upon Oracle readings at one of the events I went to. And then I was in another spiritual shop, probably like a few months later, and they had a whole side of cards and I was looking through them and I found an Oracle deck and it just so happened. I picked it up, I really liked it and I was like, okay, I just want to see what this is and in each side each deck they have an explanation. So the artist usually includes a book that has some information on what those cards mean. So you can kind of I started giving myself readings, started checking in with myself, and then it kind of grew to giving that for other people and kind of understanding and developing and giving a full reading with the Oracle deck.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I love that. So I think some people you know listening may think that, um, you know, uh, like that, this sounds so woo and like you're, you know like you're trying to be a fortune teller or something, and you know, uh, I think that that is a really bad misconception because, you know, when I sat down like with you, I didn't know what to expect, but you were so spot on with this stuff, but you weren't trying to tell me like, oh my gosh, like this magical man is going to come into your life and you know, like all of that, like where I'm like, okay, cool, I'm already married, thanks, you know, appreciate that. But instead it was. You know really a lot of like you know here are, you know some cards from your past and you know, here's what it means. Does that, what does that mean to you, you know, and it was like spot on. You know, I'd like I was almost in tears just because I was like, oh my gosh, okay, like this is great.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the way I explain it. You can do a lot with the cards. You can do past, present, future, mind, body, spirit. But typically the way I explain it, and not a fortune teller way is this is a check-in message for you and, coming from a faith-based background, you know, if you believe in angels and people that are supporting you within your journey, I tell people cards don't tell the future.

Speaker 2:

I'm not going to be able to like predict what's happening to you or when the love of your life is coming in, at least able to like predict what's happening to you or when the love of your life is coming in. At least that's not what I do with my cards. It is a check-in in that moment and I always remind people you have free will. So even though you're pulling a future card at any moment, you can make different choices and changes. It's just a check-in as to the path and kind of where you're at right now and to where that's going. So when people check in with me I say you know, it's not fortune telling, I'm not going to predict the future, there's nothing to be worried about, like if a bad card comes up, like there's no bad cards. This is just a check-in and kind of a message for you to hear and take and let it resonate with you as to what that means to you and where you want to take that message going forward. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I love that and you know. I mean, like we've said, you know multiple times here, like we both were, you know, raised in the church and everything. Now do your friends and family think that anything that you're doing now kind of goes against, like your religious?

Speaker 2:

background. My grandfather would be the biggest one. He is very Catholic, has God is good all over his car and every coat that he has. So he's definitely asked what I do when I do these things and I talk about them and post about them. And the way I kind of explain it is you know, something happens to someone, they get in an accident and they come back unscathed, right, they have no scars, no bruises, no broken bones, and someone like my grandfather's like, wow, your guardian angel is not with you today. God's watching out for you. I'm like well then, that's exactly what this is is checking in with that energy around you and checking in with those that support you in a spiritual sense, and so it usually helps buffer that conversation from someone who's very spiritual to a woo kind of world. You're talking about the same thing. You're talking about spirit and you're talking about people supporting you and watching out for you and protection, and that's the same kind of message that you're checking in with yourself. It's the same energy.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I absolutely agree, and I love that you used that analogy, because I actually still remember when I was in the fourth grade. But we had one of those extended station wagons, so it had the back seat that folded up and you would look in the back or you were looking backwards whenever you were riding. Anyways, my cousin and I were both in the front seat, both buckled in, of course, because that was always a rule in our house, but we were driving, we were in the middle of nowhere. Basically, my dad's left tire blew. He slammed on the brakes, it locked, and so then he tried to get us over to the side of the road and we're on a turnpike, and so we hit something, end up sliding on the side, flipping, rolling, and literally my cousin who again, you know, again very, very spiritual Her dad had had this feeling before we left.

Speaker 1:

He prayed for over an hour before we left, and then we got in the car and she said that a piece of glass, so the windshield should have come into us, but instead it went out and a piece of glass, though, flew towards her head. She turned around and she saw her guardian angel in the back seat, and then she turned back around and it was gone. But somehow we all survived. Like, we all got out. We had a dog with us. The dog was doing like flips, like you know ran out. Everybody was safe. We all walked away perfectly fine, you know.

Speaker 1:

So, like you know, when you said that I was like oh my gosh, that's such a crazy like thing, because you know that was and I didn't even know it until I started going on this kind of, you know, spiritual journey, um, you know I didn't realize that that was kind of my first you know taste of like the, the woo world, um, because you know it is kind of a little bit outside of that traditional, you know, christianity and things like thinking about your guardian angel and then thinking about, you know, all the spirit guides that are around you and things like that. But I really think that you know mine started during my divorce. You know I really just started figuring out like kind of who I was and who I wanted to be and you know just like ended up finding, you know, keeping an open mind, and finding people you know, like Kathy Heller, who are all about manifesting, and I was like what is that? Like? That's so crazy, you know.

Speaker 1:

And so then I've gone into like meditation and Reiki, and you know there's an episode on Reiki on here as well. So you know, like I, just I find it so fascinating and so that's why I really wanted to share it on here, because I wanted people to know that, like you know, even though you were like one person and you believed one thing, you know, when you were in your marriage, it's okay to have an open mind, you're not betraying God. In fact, all of the teachings, and you know you can obviously share, like your thoughts on this as well. But to me, every person that I've, you know, listened to that has to do with meditation or manifestation or anything like that. They always talk about like being connected to source. And they always talk about like being connected to source and they always say that can be God or the universe, or your angels, or your spirit guides or whatever you want to call it. You can call it whatever you want, it's all the same.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so much to say about that, absolutely so. I mean, for me, I always go back to your connection and source and people will be like, well, why do you have this connection? Why can you read these cards? And honestly, I tell people anyone has that connection. It's just like strengthening a muscle, the same way you go to a gym and really opening yourself to listening and hearing kind of the messages. Because we all get that gut feeling. We all get this sense of like where we should go, what we should do. And sometimes it's like as simple as like make a left here and your brain's like why would I go left here? And it's just this feeling and so anyone has the ability to open up into that.

Speaker 2:

So really, when I do like oracle readings or card pulls or even getting down into meditation and manifestation and those things, it's really just trusting yourself and getting to know yourself again. And most times what I tell people is I'm just the messenger. This message is for you. I am the deliverer of the message, but you're going to know exactly what it's trying to tell you and what it means. And I read cards for people all the time that I don't know anything about their life or what's going on. And then you know they're getting tearful and they're like I really needed to hear that today and usually it's. You know the message, like you know what they're trying to say, what the cards are saying, it's just confirmation and sometimes a nice check in.

Speaker 2:

And when people get off of like kind of get off track on the spiritual thing and they kind of get worried about it. I always tell people I come from a science background. I did ER, nursing, like science is what I do, and so I've told the story so many times. But it's so true, like if you are a nurse or you work in healthcare or anything like that, you can kind of feel when to do CPR, like you know when that energy is gone and you can kind of feel it in the room and you're like okay, and then you can kind of feel it when it comes back.

Speaker 2:

And, looking at it from a science standpoint, I always say energy can't be created or destroyed. So where does it go? Like there's a whole part of you that needs to be listened to and taken care of. The same way you go to the gym, the same way you would work out, the same way you would walk or take care of your health or your mental health. This is the same kind of thing as taking care of your spiritual health and checking in with you, and it's just something I'm so passionate to people about sharing, because it's just a whole piece.

Speaker 2:

That kind of gets lost in the world of woo where people are like, oh, this whole side is just you know, I believe in God and I go to church and I'm like I do too, so like let's talk about it and it's just a whole piece that you feel so much better when you get that connection back with yourself, especially depending on what you've gone through and if you've come out of a darker period or a really heavy period of your life, getting into connection with yourself and your end source and that spirit and that gut instinct you might have silenced it for decades and you might have not listened to it for so long and then when you get back in touch with it, it is such a refreshing breath of air to be able to live your life and it just you feel more authentic, you feel much more connected and to me, it's given me a lot of peace, along with all the other things I do in life.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, no, I love that and I love that you say you know you're just getting like kind of connected back to like source into yourself. Because I think, you know, I think a lot of women like myself included, you know whenever you first get married you think, oh my gosh, I'm going to be like the perfect wife and that's all you're focused on. And then you have children and you're like, oh my gosh, now I need to be the perfect mom, like you know, I can't be. You know, I can't be the sexy wife for my husband anymore. I now have to be like the mom, and you know. So you're kind of like stuck in those and so you're trying to battle with yourself to be the best mom and the best wife, but you're not also trying to be the best version of yourself, because you become this selfless person just taking care of everyone else and just making sure that you're the best for everyone else.

Speaker 1:

And I know for me and for a lot of women that I've talked to that you know, as they go through their divorce, they're like oh my gosh, I had totally forgotten that.

Speaker 1:

You know I liked, you know I liked my eggs this certain way, because my husband always made them this way and I just, I just thought that's what I liked and I forgot that I wanted to be a CEO of a company one day and I forgot that I wanted. You know, I had all these goals and dreams, and so I think, really getting connected back to yourself and going on your own spiritual journey, whatever that might look like, whether that means you get more attached in church or you get more attached in this what we call woo world, and start doing things like Reiki or like Oracle card reading or, you know, meditation, you know, and honestly, for me, I've really gotten so interested in learning all of these other things because for me, like it makes my spirituality make more sense, like it makes my upbringing and my church background make more sense, which is mind blowing to me.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, absolutely. I couldn't agree more. I go to church on Sunday and you can, you hear the message and it just, it perfectly parallels if you're open to it. So if you are open to really listening to both sides of it, the message is parallel themselves. You know, love yourself, love, love each other, you know, find things that bring you passion. And when you go to listen in church, it's just, it's such a nice parallel and all the synchronicities, that kind of crossover in between the two.

Speaker 2:

And one of my favorite like examples that I always tell people when they, when we talk about you know, forgetting you're this kind of person and trying to be everything to everybody else.

Speaker 2:

It was so powerful from, like, the ideology or the saying that you can't pour from an empty cup. And if you think of a cup with all these holes in them and you're constantly leaking out all of your energy, then you just always feel depleted and you always don't feel full. But if you fill that same cup and you fix those holes and you really get back to center and kind of check in with yourself, that cup overflows and you just naturally become, you know so much more fulfilled and being the best mom and trying to do all of these things, if you want to be a CEO or if you want to do, you know, change the world. If you have a full cup and you kind of fix all the places, your energy is leaking out of you, it, it pours over in abundance and it just leaks into everything in your life and it just feels so much more freeing and so much less stressful for you to just first fill your cup and let it pour out to everybody around you.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I absolutely agree and I've used that analogy so many times with people. I'm just like you can't give from an empty cup. You know and it's definitely a reminder that I have to remind myself a lot too this hustle culture where we have to just hustle and make everything happen. And you know like we have to control it all.

Speaker 1:

And you know, again, going through this whole spiritual you know journey and like just this, you know entire like divorce journey, like I've really learned that I'm a recovering people pleaser and a recovering control freak and that the more that you try to control, the like less things actually work out for you and you just stay stagnant. And so you know, opening yourself up, trusting God, the universe, angels, whoever you want to trust, whoever you want to be connected to, you know, like by doing that, your life is just going to change exponentially. And you know, like by doing that, your life is just going to change exponentially. And you know that's where. That's where big things happen and that's, you know, if we can all stay in that place of curiosity and that place of love, that's how we're going to make this world, you know, a better place is just by spreading the love.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and that's, and that's why I preach so much about you know, understanding spirituality, let that being a part of your journey, because when you feel that depleted in this hustle culture of push, push, push, like you don't move the needle, when you feel depleted, like you can push through it, but the product that you're going to have at the end of that is going to be it's going to take you 10 times longer and so much more energy than if you had just rested for a minute and then really focused on it.

Speaker 2:

The speed that you would complete that and the product and the end result that you're going to have is going to be so much more produced and so much better because you have the energy to do it.

Speaker 2:

And I think we as women, we get stuck in kind of a men's culture of go, go, go and like their entire rhythm is different than ours and we have ebbs and flows where sometimes you need even just an evening to yourself and then we feel guilty for that and just being able to check in with yourself and really understand what your body and your mind and your spirit is telling you of like, hey, we're kind of going zero to 100 the past nine days. Maybe we should just take a break today. And then you feel guilty because you're like no, I have all these things on my to do list. It's so important to just start to listen to yourself Again. We've shushed it for so long because all these people are telling us go, go, go and hustle, hustle, hustle, and you can't get anywhere if you're not working 190 hour weeks, which to get somewhere, takes a lot of work. But you also have to trust yourself and you also have to take that time to get there and really recover sometimes from pushing so hard.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that is so true. And that's such a great reminder because I still, to this day, struggle with that, like if I, if my body is like, oh my gosh, I just need like a half hour nap, and I know, like my logical brain knows that if I take a half hour nap, I am going to wake up and I'm going to have all the energy and I'm going to be able to do all the things. But if I just push through, I may get half of what I need to get done, but I'm not going to. But then, whenever I lay down, I feel guilty, like, oh my gosh, I'm wasting my day. I should be up doing stuff, and you know.

Speaker 1:

And so I've really had to just continue to like push through that and be like, no, no, Sarah, it's okay, you can take a little nap and the world isn't going to end and you can get up and you can. You're going to be so much better off. And you know, now I'm like, okay, I got this, you know. But yeah, it's definitely just that, that masculine energy that you know, that hustle culture that we've all been, you know, so like just covered in and just we've been raised in, and so I love that we have people, you know, like you, that are out there, you know, reminding us of that feminine energy and reminding us of, like that spirituality, and you know, staying connected to source, because that's that's what you're doing with your work, and I love it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I mean that's part of the Wu side is understanding there's both feminine and masculine and you have to balance both. If you're too hard one way or the other, you're going to feel out of balance, and bringing that back into center really will change the game. Not only for your business, but being a mom, being a wife, being a parent, being whatever you want to be being a CEO, you need both energies. And if you're too far in one or the other and too heavy into one, you're going to feel off balance.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, absolutely. Well, again, I really appreciate you taking time and, you know, just kind of walking us through. You know your spirituality coupled with your, you know with your woo side. So I appreciate that and I love that you and I connected over that because you know, like I said, like I just think that I think that a lot of people get it confused and they think that one is witchcraft and one is God and that both are wrong because it's all being connected to something, being connected to source.

Speaker 1:

I mean, I've even talked with one of my best friends is a minister.

Speaker 1:

My sister's a minister. I've talked to both of them about this and they're like, absolutely, this is such a good, you know, like your spiritual journey, that you're on the meditation, the Reiki, all of that stuff. You know I'm interested in the Kabbalah, like I just I think you know it's all about the greater good and you know, in talking to them they're like, yeah, it's great to know what else is out there and you know to believe in different things and it is going to strengthen your spirituality. So you know that to me was huge too, because both of them are people that would tell me like, nope, you are batshit crazy If they thought that I was batshit crazy or if I was going down the wrong path. So you know, I trust that whenever you know, even ministers are telling me like this is okay, this is not, it's not witchcraft, it's. You know, it's really you connecting back with God and, however that looks, however you know you want to call it, everyone needs to be connected to source.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely. Yeah, I always urge people just open your mind to the possibility of what if, and both can be true. You don't have to let go of your faith and your belief in faith to understand and want to learn that there might other be good things that you can do for your spirit and yourself. So both can be true if you just open your mind and allow yourself to be curious, instead of passing judgment the minute you hear something. It's wild what you might like and what you might add into your own life and your own routine.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, exactly, exactly, I love it. Well, I would love to continue to share, like you know, you and your message. So if somebody was interested in getting a reading from you, you know, or even discussing this more, what would be the best way for them to get ahold of you?

Speaker 2:

I do most of my marketing through Instagram, so my Instagram is revivalproject614. Again, that's all based off energy and CPR and kind of bringing back energy into the world. So revivalproject614, it is the same handle for a email. So if you're not an Instagram person, you're not a social media person. You can always email me at revivalproject614, gmailcom and, yeah, from there I do Oracle readings. We can do that via Zoom. I also am certified in life coaching. So all the exciting things to kind of help people guide themselves through this exciting, exciting journey.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I love that and I'll put all those links in the show notes so that you know anyone listening can just find you pretty easily so awesome. Well, thank you so much again for sharing your message and, you know, just sharing your, your light. I really appreciate you.

Speaker 2:

Of course. Thank you for having me.

Speaker 1:

Thank you.
