Good morning, beautiful people. Or good evening, or good afternoon. Wherever you are today, right now, as you're listening, I know you heard the phrase Win the morning, win the day, right? Well, I'm going to show you exactly how a simple morning ritual can help you jumpstart each day with clarity, confidence, with momentum, and how simple it is. So stay tuned. Here we go. Thank you so much for tuning into the Mr. Mind Podcast. Your twice a week dose of living well, even if you didn't sleep well last night, even if you didn't sleep well for the past two nights and your day is going horrible, we want to make sure that you're living well at least twice a week. Speaking of not sleeping well, a lot of people believe that not sleeping well is the cause of their bad days. Could it be a factor?
(01:05)
Yeah, of course could be a factor, but something else that could be a factor that a lot of people overlook is not having a morning ritual. But why does it matter? Why do morning rituals matter? Well, you ever woken up late, scrambled to get out the door, felt like you were already behind before the day even begin. Well, I have news for you. I have too. Now, those chaotic mornings, they tend to snowball into stressful days. On the flip side, if you start your day with intention, guess what? That gives you momentum, and it carries throughout the whole day. It helps you stay focused. It makes you feel in control, and here's why it works. Your mornings set the tone for your mental and emotional state. If you begin with peace, if you begin with focus, if you begin with clarity, that energy is going to flow into everything that you do.
(01:57)
You can think of your morning as the foundation for the skyscraper. That is your day. Now, with that in mind, think about how your morning went today. Is it in line with how the rest of your day went? I know you heard the term waking up on the wrong side of bed. Where do you think that comes from? Man, that person must have woke up on the wrong side of bed. We all know, rather, it's consciously or subconsciously that, hey, if you wake up and that morning is crappy, guess what? A lot of times your rest of the day has fallen to shit. The question is, what makes a good morning ritual? Well, you don't need some crazy two hour insane, complicated routine. That's not it. Instead, what you need are three components, and these three components are mind to body and purpose. Mind body purpose.
(02:51)
For your mind, you need something to center your thoughts. It could be meditation, it could be journaling. Even just sitting in silence for a few minutes works wonders for your body. You move around rather, if it's like a five minute stretch, a short workout, even a quick walk outside, get the blood flowing, and for your purpose set and intentional, go for the day. I mean, this could be something like today I will stay calm under pressure or I'll finish one important task, mind, body, purpose. These three things don't have to be more than 15 minutes, but they'll prepare you to tackle the day ahead. You'll be fit, you'll be ready for your day, mind, body, purpose. My morning routine is pretty simple. I wake up and I just kind of sit there thinking of nothing for about five minutes, for about five minutes, just enjoying the present, and that's the mind portion of my morning routine that I get up, I make the bed, I go into the bathroom.
(04:03)
I have to wash out these Invisalign things that I have. Take my little tablets, my little vitamins that I got from Sam's Club. Then I go say hi to my family, my two kids, my wife, and after that I'll work out. Now, when I first started to work out, it was honestly about maybe five to seven minutes just because I wanted to do it every day. I didn't want to do it long for every day, but I just wanted to do it. But now it's up to 30 minutes. So I work out for at least 30 minutes, well, for up to 30 minutes, and that's my body section. And after that, I take a look at the list that I have to do for today. Now, keep in mind I do my list the day before, so I kind of have a knowing of what I have to do, but then I go over the list and then I start the list.
(04:53)
Okay, well, thing one, this is what I have to do. Okay, thing two, this is what I have to do. This is the most important thing I have to do today, so let's make sure I get it done. And that's the purpose part. So again, very simple, A very simple morning routine. Honestly, it takes me about 45 minutes to do the morning routine around there. Now, does that happen like that every single day? No. No, no, no, no, no. Not at all. Not every single day. Sometimes something happens with the company, and then I have to cut certain things short, and a lot of time what I'll cut short is that workout routine. So if something happens, just have a backup plan. My backup plan is, okay, well, I'll cut down the workout routine, or I'll do the workout routine later. That's what I usually cut down on.
(05:39)
Everything else I have to do. I have to look at my list. I have to have my five minutes of silence. I have to make the bed, these other things that I have to do. And yes, if I do have extra time, I'll add some things in there. The thing that I do like to add in there is reading a book. I love to read books, but nowadays it's mainly audibles, right? I forgot a book that I want to read, and then I have audibles and I listen to the audibles when I go walk my dogs and do stuff like that, it's just better for time management that way. But if I do have some extra time, yeah, I'll pop open that physical book and I'll start reading. But that's it. No more than 45 minutes, guys. And this routine, it works for me because it's easy to stick to and it makes me feel grounded.
(06:22)
It makes me feel ready. It makes me feel ready to face the day. It's like giving myself a little mini power boost before the world demands my energy, because it will and not just mine. It'll demand yours as well. Now, let's build your morning ritual. Here's how. Start small. Don't try to overhaul your entire morning all at once. All right? Just pick one thing, just one thing to add. Maybe stretching or writing down your goals. That's it. Start small. Also, make it personal. Choose activities that resonate with you. You don't need to steal mine or you don't need to take mine. Mine isn't unique to me as well. I'm pretty sure other people have the exact same morning routine as I do. But make it personal. Make yours something that resonates with you. If meditation isn't your thing, try deep breathing or reading or something inspiring.
(07:17)
But here's the most important part. Be consistent. Be consistent because the magic of the ritual comes with repetition. Commit to your routine for seven days and notice how you feel. Just seven days. Give yourself seven days. Make it small. Give yourself seven days and understand how it feels. And then do this. Don't do it for the eighth day, and you'll see how off you feel. You'll see how important that routine is. And once you get used to those small things for your routine, add something else and add something else, and add something else. For the first year. Don't go more than 15, 20 minutes. Don't go more than 15, 20 minutes for your first year, I would say, or for your first six months at least. And here's a project. Prepare the night before. Lay out your workout clothes, set up your journal, prep your coffee or whatevers, and this way you're setting yourself up for nothing but success.
(08:09)
Okay, so let's recap. A morning ritual doesn't have to be long or complicated, okay? Just focus on centering your mind, moving your body, setting intention for your day. I'm going to say that again. Focus on centering your mind, moving your body, and setting intention for your day. This is your challenge for the week. Design a 15 minute morning ritual that works for you. Start small. Keep it simple. Now, watch how it transforms your days. I'm going to leave you with this thought. How you spend your first hour of the day can dictate the next 23, so why not make that first hour a gift to yourself? Thank you so much for joining me today on the Mr Mind Podcast.
