Lets Make Mother's Day Different This Year

Brittany Turley Coaching Episode 18
Brittany:

Hey mama. Welcome to the Inside Out Mamas podcast. I'm Brittany Turley, mom of six, and I know what it's like to feel stuck and overwhelmed trying to be the perfect mom, but everything changed for me when I learned that small changes on the inside can bring big results on the outside. Each week I will share simple, yet powerful inside shifts or outside tips that can transform your approach to mothering, helping you thrive from the inside out. Ready to ditch the mom guilt and enjoy this season of life. You are in the right place. Do you look forward to Mother's Day or do you dread it? As mothers we know we give a lot to our kids and we would love to be honored and appreciated by them for all that we do. We have expectations of what would be a nice way for them to celebrate us but sometimes we get into trouble there because rarely do things go as we hoped. Sometimes when the season of life is hard on Mother's Day, we can also flip to feeling guilty for not doing enough or not being enough for our kids. either way. Sometimes Mother's Day can be hard. I used to long for Mother's Day to be a day off for me. I just wanted one day out of the whole year that I could take a day long break from mothering that I could not have any responsibilities, not need to meet anybody's needs, just sit and do nothing, or do something I wanna do or be alone for just a few minutes more than bathroom time. But it seemed that when my family would try to give me a day long break, it usually just didn't pan out and would end up making people frustrated, including me. Over the past few years though, I have shifted my thinking about Mother's Day. And even though now my kids are older and the possibility of having a day to myself is way more realistic than it ever was, I want to spend my Mother's Day a different way now. On Mother's Day, what if instead of waiting for people to honor us and give us a break, what if we honor the fact that we are a mother and celebrate the blessing that that is? What if, instead of thinking it should be a day off, we decide to use this day to really be with and connect with our kids. This shift in my thinking sets me up for having a successful day because instead of just waking up and hoping that people do something kind for me to show me that they're grateful for what I've done, I wake up and look for ways to be grateful that I can be a mom, to be grateful that I have kids that I can be with. This approach takes out all of my expectations for the day. It takes all of the stress off my husband and kids feeling like they have to do something fantastic for me or serve me in some amazing way. This approach allows me to just meet my kids where they're at and be with them. The world is full of busyness and so many things that we can fill our days with, and spending that time on Mother's Day. Just really being with and focusing on my kids has brought me a lot of peace on my Mother's day. I think being with my kids on Mother's Day is a way to honor the fact that I am a mother. And I've been blessed with the privilege of raising these kids and serving them and helping them. I have found this approach has made my mother's day so much more enjoyable and meaningful. Now because I believe small changes on the inside bring big results on the outside. Each week on my podcast, I'm going to give you a small change challenge, something small you could do throughout the week if you choose, that could end up bringing big results to your life. So the small change challenge for this week is to honor the fact that you are blessed to be a mother and decide how you can honor that blessing this Mother's day. Remember, small changes on the inside, bring big results on the outside. Thank you for joining me for another episode of Inside Out Mamas.
