If Your Business Isn’t Making Money While You’re in Full-On Mom Mode… Here’s Why

Hey mama, welcome back to the Moms who Mean Business Podcast!

Okay, real talk—have you ever had one of those days where you’re just doing ALL the things?

Like, you’re making snacks, answering emails, running errands, and trying to squeeze in work between nap time, but at the end of the day… your business didn’t actually make any money?

Yaaaaa. Let’s talk.

Because here’s the deal… if your business isn’t making money while you’re deep in mom mode, there’s a problem. The good news… that’s why I’m here today and I’m going to drop some insight you can implement TODAY!

So here’s what happens - many of us moms think cool, we’ve built the business… but at the end of the day really, what a love of moms have created is a second job—one that doesn’t even come with paid time off and it ends up being another child they have to babysit.

Which is not the vibe…

But here’s the good news: There is a way to fix this. So if this is you… let’s dive into why you’re stuck in the grind and how to break free.

There’s a cycle.. more like a never-ending grind that so many mompreneurs find themselves in.

You create content, you sell your offer, you deliver… and then guess what?

You start all over again.

You’re constantly having to show up to make money.

You end up with a second job as a content creator, third job as a video editor, you feel like the algorithm is just starting to like you…. and then…

life happens.

Your kid gets sick, your kids have 5 million snow days … your family needs you, you have one of those “just want a freaking break” moments… —and what happens?

The money stops. Right?

And this isn’t just you.

I had a client (let’s call her Sarah) who was absolutely crushing it. She had a thriving business, clients coming in, making sales… but only when she was hustling her face off.

If she stopped creating offers?

Crickets.

No sales, no new leads, just… nothing.

And it was burning her out.

Another client - we will call her Susie.

She realized if she were unable to see her 1:1 clients for some reason it - they would be left unsupported and she wouldn’t bring in any revenue to her business.

What I’ve learned in the past 7 years working with 6-7 figure content creators and coaches is that there are much more sustainable ways of creating the foundations in your business - that allow for freedom to live life… or in our case - do mom life!

When we’re creating the foundations for a freedom based business - or a business that runs in the background of life… first and foremost what we don’t want is to treat it like a hobby.

A hobby is something you do for fun, but it doesn’t require any consistency, it ends up costing money — right?

and you don’t want a never ending job…

A job is something you get paid for—but only when you show up… right?

that’s not the vibe either. we want a business.

A business that runs whether you’re actively working or not and pays whether you’re activley working in it that day or not.

And let’s be real—if you have to show up 24/7 to make money, you don’t have a business, you have a full-time job(without the benefits, PTO, or a boss to call in sick to).

And listen, I get it.

When I first began my virtual assisting business, I thought the hustle was normal. It felt good, it felt productive, I’m like yeah! , “This is just what it takes to be successful.”

But that’s just because we’ve been conditioned to think that you have to work really hard (climb the corporate ladder right?) .

But this is a new era of business - we need to retrain the way we think about what we actually want to build and as moms, your business should support your life, not take over it.

so THIS is where automation comes in…

and if that doesn’t like turn you on and make you feel oh so sexy… then you don’t KNOW automation!!!

Automation is what takes you from ‘always working’ to ‘working smarter’— so sales happen whether you’re making lunch, running errands, or dealing with bedtime chaos.

I’m going to break down the four systems every freedom-based business needs.

1. Lead Generation on Autopilot

If you’re constantly chasing leads, you’re doing it wrong - we want to attract.

> Your content is what should be bringing people to you every single day.

Now… disclaimer - this doesn’t have to be instagram. I love the gram, but if the gram isn’t your jam… there are other platforms! There is no ONE way - you want to go where your audience is… but if a coach/mentor ever says ‘YOU MUST DO IT THIS WAY’ run because ultimately as a business owner it’s you who decides your target market and where they live.

> NEXT - You need a lead magnet that captures emails and builds your audience on autopilot.

This does not have to be a boring PDF. You must put effort into it. Don’t just slap it up. If you have a ‘shitty lead magnet’ they’re going to assume you have a shitty offer. this is their first little sample of you and your work.

I love changing up my lead magnets! I don’t always lead with the same lead magnet. So when inspiration strikes - or you have multiple offers… you can create accordingly.

> Lastly instead of manually replying to every DM, you can use Autoresponders to send automatic responses and collect leads while you sleep.

Autoresponders can ALSO be designed to increase engagement - which sounds like a future episode!

Automated Nurture Sequences

People don’t buy the first time they see your offer. I’m sure somewhere someone is the exception to the case - but it just doesn’t happen. Buyers are more cautious in the online space now - which is ultimately a good thing!

They just need to warm up to you.

So how do you do this if you don’t want to live on your phone 24/7??

> Welcome sequences - create A welcome email sequence that introduces them to you & your offer and builds that know/like trust factor.

> Consistent follow-ups that provide value and build trust.

> Automated DMs that guide them toward their next step, your next freebie, low ticket offers - meets them where they’re at.

Trust me— the more you nurture, the easier the sale.

Which brings me to #3 -

Sales Without Your Involvement - how does that even happen?!

Manual sales set yourself up for burnout. You will find coaches that swear by sales calls… I’m not one of them. I worked with 6 & 7 figure coaches who had 4-5 figure offers and none of them required a sales call…

Here’s what you need for a sales system in the background of life:

> A clear sales funnel that moves people from “just found you” → “ready to buy” without needing you every step of the way.

> An automated checkout system that lets people buy without DMing you first.

Meaning if they see you talk about something in your stories or a post or through word of mouth - they don’t have to DM you like ‘hey so and so is in this and I want to join!’

You can set this up again through an autoresponder, inside the link in your bio, or on your website. Ultimatley it should to go a sales page and then link directly to your checkout page.

> Tripwires, upsells and orderbumps so even small offers bring in extra cash. What additional resources + offers can you suggest next as a little bonus that are helpful to whatever they’re purchasing?

The toys and candy bars at the checkout aisle are not there by mistake. They’re order bumps!!

Finally the last system every mom needs for a freedom-based business...

4. A Backend That Runs Smoothly -

mama… Imagine waking up to a Stripe notification instead of a to-do list!

Here’s what you need:

> One solid platform to house your offers, emails, and automations.

> Simple systems & templates so you’re not constantly reinventing the wheel.

> The right tools so your biz runs even when you’re off the grid.
