This iOS Update Tanked My Open Rate… Here’s How I Fixed It!

Hey, mama! Welcome back to Moms Who Mean Business—where we talk about building a thriving online business that runs in the background of your life while you stay present with your family.

Today, we’re diving into something that shook up my email marketing strategy in a BIG way… Apple’s latest iOS update.

If you send emails to your audience (which, by the way, you should be), this update might be messing with your open rates—and you might not even realize it.

Apple’s new AI-generated email previews completely removed the custom ones we all strategically wrote to hook our readers. And let me tell you… when I first saw my open rates drop, I panicked for a second—but then I pivoted fast. Because if your emails aren’t getting opened, your business isn’t making money.

So in this episode, I’m breaking down:

  • What this update means for your business
  • The exact strategies I used to fix my open rate
  • How to shift your email game so you’re ahead of the curve

If your email marketing has felt off lately, stick with me—I’ve got you. Let’s jump in!

Let’s talk about what actually happened.

Apple, in all their wisdom, decided that we don’t get to control our email previews anymore. Instead, their AI summarizes our emails for us.

Which means all those strategic first lines—the ones we used to write to get people excited to open? Gone.

And if you’ve noticed a dip in your open rates lately, this could be why. Because people aren’t seeing the juicy hook we wrote—they’re seeing whatever AI thinks is important (and spoiler: AI doesn’t always get it right).

So now, we have to be even smarter with our email marketing. Because let’s be real—open rates aren’t just a vanity metric. They’re a key part of making money in your business.

But don’t worry—I figured out how to work around this, and I’m breaking it all down for you.

Here’s exactly what I did to adapt—so you can do the same:

1. Subject Lines = EVERYTHING.

If your subject line isn’t clear, direct, and curiosity-driven, it’s getting skipped. Period.

No fluff. No guessing games. Just straight value.

Before the update, we could rely on that first line of text to hook readers. Now? The subject line has to do all the heavy lifting.

Think about what makes you open an email. It’s not “Weekly Newsletter” or “New Updates.” It’s something that makes you feel like you have to click.

Some of my favorite high-converting styles:

  • “This mistake cost me $5K—don’t let it happen to you”
  • “You’re losing sales if you’re not doing this”
  • “This iOS update tanked my open rate… here’s how I fixed it”

Make it specific, make it juicy, and make it something your audience can’t ignore.

2. Front-Load the Good Stuff.

Since Apple is summarizing emails with AI, I make my first sentence count.

No “Hey there!” or “Hope you’re doing well!”—we don’t have time for that.

Instead, I get straight to the point with something compelling. Like:

  • “Apple’s new iOS update just tanked my email open rate—and it might be messing with yours too.”

The goal? Hook your reader immediately so Apple’s AI pulls the right preview.

3. Clicks > Opens.

Here’s the deal: open rates aren’t the flex they used to be.

Yes, we want people opening emails—but what really matters? Click-through rates.

Because clicks = engagement = sales.

So instead of obsessing over opens, I’m focusing on strong CTAs that make it easy (and exciting) for my audience to take action.

Examples of CTAs I’ve been testing:

  • “Click here to see the exact email strategy I’m using post-update.”
  • “Reply with ‘I’m in!’ and I’ll send you the details.”
  • “Want to see how I structure my emails? Keep an eye on your inbox—I’m sharing more inside secrets soon!”

Your audience needs a reason to act—so give it to them.

4. Train Your Inbox.

One of the sneakiest ways Apple is messing with email deliverability? Shoving emails into the Promotions tab.

So, I started telling my subscribers to train their inbox.

I literally ask them to:

  • Drag my emails to their Primary inbox
  • Reply with a quick “Got it!”

Why?

Because when they do, it signals to their email provider that my messages are important—which means they’re more likely to see my emails next time.

Listen, mama—this update shook things up, but we don’t make excuses. We make moves.

The online business world always changes. Whether it’s Instagram’s algorithm, Facebook ads, or now, Apple’s AI summaries—there will always be shifts.

But the entrepreneurs who win? They adapt.

So, let me ask you—are you making these tweaks to your emails? Or are you lowkey panicking?

Either way—I’ve got you.

  • Step 1: Get on my email list. If you want to see exactly how I’m structuring my emails post-update, make sure you’re subscribed. (Check the show notes for the link!)
  • Step 2: DM me on Instagram (@laceysbestlife) and I’ll send you my top email marketing tips—so you don’t have to figure this out alone.
  • Step 3: Screenshot this episode & tag me on Instagram! Let me know which tip hit home for you the most.

Bottom line: The best entrepreneurs pivot when things change. And if you stick with me? You’ll always be ahead of the curve.

Alright, mama—until next time, keep making moves.
