Welcome to the odd box. It's your favorite voice actor who does two voices. We're almost to a hundred episodes, and it's probably the most consistent effort that I've ever put into anything in my life, and I'm really excited about it.
SPEAKER_03He stopped raising his kids years ago.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, once they could get cereal out of the cupboard, they don't need me anymore.
SPEAKER_01He has a wife for that.
SPEAKER_08Whoa.
SPEAKER_06To get cereal out of the cupboard.
SPEAKER_08No, to raise the children, I think, is the implication.
SPEAKER_01Well, Kyle needs cereal too, so.
SPEAKER_08I can't eat cereal. I've got a dietary. It doesn't stop him from eating a box of it a day.

SPEAKER_05It couldn't be more obvious. You're in love. And the feelings mutual for those of us with the capacity. You keep coming back for more, and we know why. The jokes only get darker, the story only gets more bizarre. And you want to be here when we have to face the consequences. Pay the Piper, answer for our podcasting crimes. Is any joke worth it if it's funny enough? Yes. Yeah, 100%. Yeah. You're asking the wrong crowd. I'm asking it. It's the only crowd I have biased.
SPEAKER_06I have actually like made this a big argument point of certain things.
SPEAKER_05Well, that falls out of any. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06No, okay. Um, but like comedians need to have leeway to push the envelope. Like, there's actually research around are you so you're saying we are those comedians that can push the envelope? No, I'm just saying in general, there's research around um like feed freedom of press and stuff, and also comedians at who have that same right um that can basically push the envelope with uh risqued jokes, so to speak. And like things like that need to be able to happen uh for I don't know, free society.
SPEAKER_04I generally agree. I personally draw the line of getting punched in the face. And as a joke? No, I've told jokes and uh people have tried to punch me in the face before. And so, you know, whenever that happens, I kind of log that in the punch in the face category. That joke was over the line. I'm like, oh boy, don't bring up our Tad's mother. Apparently it wasn't funny enough. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think that it's very important for you to know your audience. Yes, because there's a lot of times when there is a joke that might be really funny for some people. And I'm not saying you shouldn't make that joke, but it just doesn't land among your audience. So know who you're talking to.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I think funny enough is the is the like qualifier qualifier right there, right? That's risky though. Yeah, yeah. Well, and it really like, you know, like uh when you're if you're joking about something that's like a taboo topic, like there's a lot of ways to make jokes about something that's uncomfortable, right? And usually they're not funny if you're punching down at somebody, right? You know, unless they're truly helpless. And then it kind of comes full circle again.
SPEAKER_05It made me think of uh our relationship at work. We'd say some really terrible things. I'd like I'd make a comment about your cognitive ability. Yeah, yeah. You'd make a comment about my skin color. And the students are like, You how can you say those things to each other? They were just like blown away. And you know, again, our jokes weren't about our well, maybe a little our differences. It was mostly about the systems, right? Like the systems in place to like help and counteract those, those, those jokes that we were making. So, but uh I don't it's yeah, again, the risk of like, is this joke gonna be funny enough that I can get away with it?
SPEAKER_04I I think the essence of of comedy comes from a place of honest conflict. I think you have to be willing to like both put yourself out there, and you know, if the other person's gonna laugh, they have to put themselves out there too, and and laugh at something that is absurd and true at the same time. And um, yeah, I think just by its very nature, even really mild jokes can really offend some people.
SPEAKER_06And that's true. Yeah, well, yeah, if you have no sense of humor.
SPEAKER_04Sure. Well, but it's just you know, like your perspective on it, you know. Yeah, and um, and yeah, I'm I'm with you, Jeff. I'm 100%.
SPEAKER_05Well, there was that comedian that was like, I can't believe you would say those things, and uh, you know, like there's no way you can mean it. And he's like, Yeah, I didn't mean the joke either.
SPEAKER_06Like, you know, right, yeah, it's like it was just a funny thing to say. It doesn't mean that I believe those things. Um, but yeah, I I hate cancel culture because it's a distraction, it's it's not a real thing. Um, but like when you look at movies canceled, bam canceled cancel him when you look at movies, um, two, three, four.
SPEAKER_02And it's muted. What was that, Jeff? No, I know it's good.
SPEAKER_06Um but no, I mean, just looking at movies that used to be made. Oh, that's a lot of people say, Oh, you can't you know you can't make that kind of movie anymore. And to some extent, it's true. There's a lot of jokes that people were willing to do in the past that they're not willing to push the envelope like that anymore.
SPEAKER_05Because I like to tell people that Robert Downey Jr. is my favorite black actor. Yeah, yeah. That would still fly. You can still do that. That's the thing too, is like there's stuff going around about people doing whiteface, people doing blackface, and you can't do these things. But again, if it's done well enough, if it's funny, it's embraced. It's taking to like a whole new level.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, like to your point earlier, right? Yeah, the history of blackface is really about degrading black people most of the time that shows up, right? Yeah, and when Robert Downey Jr. did it for Tropic Thunder, he was degrading people who do blackface, right? So, like, you know, it wasn't being black was the butt of the joke, right? It was that you're so smug and so arrogant with the bars.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, it's the same reason we can cast black people to do black roles sort of thing.
SPEAKER_04It's the same reason why we need like Leo Leo uh DiCaprios to go in and play the the fucking absolute villain into Django. Yeah. Um, you know, at some point when you're cleaning up a joke, you're cleaning up history. Yeah, you know, that's a good point. And and and that's really problematic over time.
SPEAKER_08I like that. Yeah, and I think a lot of like the you know, like if you go back to like uh 80s, you know, kind of like raunchy comedies, like a lot of the jokes that don't work anymore are really just about molesting women.
SPEAKER_06I was about to know as we all laugh. There's there's jokes in 80s movies that's just straight up date rape. Yeah, it's not even a joke.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it's yeah. And so like really it's like a lens of the culture at the time, you know? And it's like, how did people think this was funny though? Because you aren't you are punching down, right?
SPEAKER_06Well, they'd only been able to vote for 40 years by that point. So well, here's the thing. I mean, someday it'll come full circle, and date rape will be funny again. Okay, for real needed mic this time. Oh man.
SPEAKER_03That was actually better answers than I thought I was going to get.
SPEAKER_05What did you think you were gonna get? Some of the worst jokes you guys could come up with. All right, here we go. No, I'm just uh let's leave it on that note.
SPEAKER_01Let's play a game.
SPEAKER_08Who's there? Orange. Orange who orange you glad I didn't say banana. Yeah. Don't you have to do the knock knock part a few times? Fucking cancel them for that one?
SPEAKER_03You're supposed to like cancel them for another reason now.
SPEAKER_05Speaking of uh bad jokes, you guys kind of turn the tables on your seance. Did I say seance first or did you guys say seance first? Uh I think Courtney was the first one.
SPEAKER_01I I I think it was Jeff.
SPEAKER_05It was one when it's on tape.
SPEAKER_01I repeated it for sure.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I thought that was funny because uh that part of the chapter was called running the seance.
SPEAKER_01So nailed it. We felt it. We didn't like it.
SPEAKER_05You guys do that again. Felt it from the other side. Learn some secrets, motivations of these people, and you're able to form a plan based off of what they reveal. You know that the warning bell they were using is now housing the light from your eternal lantern. You know you need that eternal lantern lit if you're going to cast a higher version of Transmigration. You know that Fin Fang, the woman with the scar on her face, has been influenced by Nendorus in some way. Afterwards, they send you back in after you are able to mostly guard your secrets and only reveal what you really wanted to. You do know they had a strong reaction when uh Red mentioned Kugapti. You convince the town that it is not time to panic. And later that day, maybe a couple days after, Myron the dwarf comes calling, talking about some sort of haunting at the graveyard. And you guys entirely ruin Myron's night. Just for no reason. It's pathetic.
SPEAKER_06I mean, there wasn't no reasons.

SPEAKER_05He wouldn't get to the point, goddammit. Your first one-star Google review brings you down to like a 4.9.
SPEAKER_01Couldn't remember by the time he got back to his computer.
SPEAKER_05Right. He did it on his phone and walked back. Cold as shit, no tea. They charge people for this. And you decide that if you wait any longer to investigate this new problem, it could have dire consequences. And so you guys head out to the graveyard and find a sad-looking ghost woman standing in front of a headstone. What is the hero point situation?
SPEAKER_08Three. Whoa. Holy shit. Really? Yeah, I didn't use a single one on the thing, and I got one.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, maybe you should have when you failed that roll. He didn't use the one. Because he was the only one. He was the only one. He's fine.
SPEAKER_01He's got three. Don't don't make him feel bad now. We did great.
SPEAKER_08Zero. Yeah, I'm just drained too. It's not that big a deal. Zero. Two.
SPEAKER_05Two.
SPEAKER_01And one.
SPEAKER_05And one.
SPEAKER_01And we didn't talk about drained at all, should we?
SPEAKER_05I was actually gonna ask what the drain values were. Uh if you guys want to go around real quick and shout those out. I got a two. I got a two.
SPEAKER_00One.
SPEAKER_05One.
SPEAKER_06So yeah, I'm gonna do that. You take down eight hit points.
SPEAKER_05Penalty to your drain value to your constitution-based checks, such as fortitude saves. You lose hit points equal to your level times the drain value. So make sure you multiply that. And your maximum hit points are reduced by the same amount. That's 18 hit points for me. Oh yeah, you're a level higher. Yeah. When you regain hit points by resting for eight hours, your drain value is reduced by one, but you do not immediately recover those lost hit points. You guys are standing in the cold, wet winter storm that some of you have induer elements, but you can still feel the frost nipping at your nose. This woman looks at you just sad and looks as if maybe there's tears in the bottom of her eyes. And she is still wicked and silent.
SPEAKER_00Hello. My name is Ari. We're here to help you. What's wrong?
SPEAKER_05She looks down at you. And as you say, we're here to help, her face softens a little bit. And she gestures at you to follow. And she turns and slowly just kind of like drifts off exiting the graveyard. Okay, hang on, slow down.
SPEAKER_00Don't do anything threatening, guys.
SPEAKER_08My legs are so much shorter than they used to be. It's hard for me to get around in the snow. You look fine to me. Now he's the one that needs upies. Everybody in this party needs upies except for Pops. He's a giant. It's like two men standing on top of each other.
SPEAKER_06Oh man, would you stop complaining about it if you just rode on his shoulders or something?
SPEAKER_08You think Violet's big enough to ride yet? She's getting pretty handsome.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. She's bigger than you now.
SPEAKER_08Every day. She's grown a lot.
SPEAKER_05This ghost is taking a meryandering path, and now it's leading you into the forest. It's hard to navigate with the snowladen branches and deep snow. You guys are struggling to keep up. She's moving effortlessly.
SPEAKER_00Can you tell us where we're going?
SPEAKER_05And she doesn't even pause or hesitate in her step, it just continues to go and go. And go.
SPEAKER_08That's alright. I don't want to get back. It's gonna be fine. Hiking around these woods forever. Although I am concerned that we're gonna run into the haunty wall pretty soon. It is easier to get under the branches now that I'm vertically challenged.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but the snow comes up to your waist, so it's it.
SPEAKER_08Six and one, half dozen in the other.
SPEAKER_05Almost as tall as Pops now. You guys, one of you needs to give me a survival or perception check. The DC is not the same. Any of you can aid. I can do survival. I can do perception. 15 survival.
SPEAKER_04Let me do perception.
SPEAKER_06So Pops is rolling. Is anyone aiding? I'll aid. I will aid with my survival.
SPEAKER_05I know that we're not supposed to be rolling different checks for eighting, but I D. Plus one.
SPEAKER_01I aid. 29.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Plus one.
SPEAKER_04Here comes the roll. Sixteen on dice, perception sixteen, four, uh thirty-four. Uh plus thirty-two.
SPEAKER_08Thirteen and sixteen is thirty-two.
SPEAKER_01I thought you already did it. I was like, yay.
SPEAKER_05After about three hours, you guys are able to keep up with her the entire time and you don't also become fatigued. She takes you to a dry riverbed. Here there doesn't seem to be any snow on this rough gravel. And she just points to the spot. Alright.
SPEAKER_04What is here?
SPEAKER_08I've seen this before, but don't worry about it, guys. She can't skip rocks anymore. She's sad about it. With my favorite spot.
SPEAKER_04Would you like us to start to dig?
SPEAKER_05She's unmoving. Just frozen, pointing to the spot. I'm gonna go stand in the spot. Other than the fact that snow seems to be melting instantly here. Pops is oh you're doing a track.
SPEAKER_0127.
SPEAKER_05For what?
SPEAKER_01I was doing perception. Oh I wasn't sure if you wanted me to actually roll it or not, but I did.
SPEAKER_05You see a lot of forest. There's no snow in this spot. It's all gravelly.
SPEAKER_04Pops is gonna start digging while he's looking at the ghost and just like making sure it's okay.
SPEAKER_05As you begin to dig, she lowers her arm.
SPEAKER_06Oh. Ah, okay.
SPEAKER_08I think he's got it figured out.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I think that was an affirmation.
SPEAKER_06I'll start, I'll start helping dig with my hands because we don't actually have any shovels. We didn't really come prepared for digging. We did not bring any shovels. That was an oversight. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You guys are doing great.
SPEAKER_06Dig with my hands.
SPEAKER_08I'm gonna dig with my page. Wait just a minute. Going a lot. Wait just a minute. We all have magic. Any of us, can any of us do anything about this?
SPEAKER_01Alright, summons a phantasmal minion.
SPEAKER_08There we go. Have that minion do some digging with his hands.
SPEAKER_06Gardus aims divine lance and just keeps pelting it into the ground in front of him. Just blasting apart rocks with my cantrips.
SPEAKER_08I could cast adopt self on myself and get uh fins. And become adopted. Get fins for a swim speed. Find your way. I don't know if that's gonna be handy or not, but webbed fingers, maybe. Um I don't have anything else that would help, so I guess I'm just digging with my hands. Yeah, same. Digga digga dig. Digging in the cold. Really hurts my fingers.
SPEAKER_05It's gonna be an athletics check. I'll give everyone rolling that athletics check a plus one for Ari's Phantasmal Minion.
SPEAKER_08That ain't bad. That ain't bad at all. 31.

SPEAKER_05Well Gardas and Pops become fatigued. Okay. Uh minus one thousand C3 AC and saline throws. You can't have an acceleration activity. You guys get a full night's rest.
SPEAKER_01You guys are slowing down.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, come on, guys. Come on, dig like I'm digging.
SPEAKER_01Playing the drums. Yeah, this is hard.
SPEAKER_08How far do we have to dig here?
SPEAKER_05About five feet down. Wow. Sorry, four feet down. It's the middle of the night. It's two in the morning. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Out there digging at it with a stick.
SPEAKER_05You find human bones wrapped in a burlap shroud. Oh shit, that's a dead body. Like how big are the bones? Adult? Adult human female bones.
SPEAKER_08Adult human female bones. Are these your bones, lady? She's just staring at the hole. Should we move these to the cemetery?
SPEAKER_04Pops gets back in the hole and he starts digging as he's looking at her.
SPEAKER_03Just digging what?
SPEAKER_04Is this what you want me to do?
SPEAKER_03That's what he thought he's supposed to do.
SPEAKER_04No, but Pops, knock it off.
SPEAKER_08You're being disrespectful. Those are bones you're pushing around. Well now the bones are out, I assume. I didn't. Oh, okay. I didn't hear anything. You know what though, Pops? That's a good idea. This might be uh what we call uh uh what's it called when you put up like a fake thing? Well, I don't know why you're asking me. Decoy body. This might be a decoy body. There might be more bodies under the body.
SPEAKER_01I'm just not going to guess that. Yeah. What the hell are you talking about?
SPEAKER_08Well, what I'm saying is that one time there were some things to dispose of. And so we put them really far down in the earth, and then we put something that was less difficult to deal with on top of it.
SPEAKER_06So you're thinking the bones, the human remains, are a distraction for what's actually here.
SPEAKER_08Well, I'm just saying it's a possibility. I don't know anybody who's done that exact thing before. I'm gonna heft the bones out of the hole. Gently, gently.
SPEAKER_04Maybe she wants to be buried properly.
SPEAKER_05You pick up the bones and she turns around and begins to leave. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I'm gonna put them in my uh bag of holding and start falling.
SPEAKER_01All right, let's go. Like, hopefully get them all out of there.
SPEAKER_08197, 198. Do you guys think we should fill this hole back in real quick before we go?
SPEAKER_01Or if you want to do that, that's fine, but we're leaving.
SPEAKER_08Just leave your minion here.
SPEAKER_01No, it's gone. I don't just want to fall in. I think it only lasts a minute. She casts it three times.
SPEAKER_04Pops will half collapse the hole and catch up.
SPEAKER_08I can't believe I had to get help climbing out of that hole.
SPEAKER_01I used the rope of climbing for you. Yeah, that's ridiculous.
SPEAKER_08Pops just steps out. Do you guys think my body's gonna grow back, or do you think I'm just gonna be like this?
SPEAKER_06You're a dwarf now. Can't use it.
SPEAKER_08I got tusks and stuff. I'm not a dwarf. Some dwarfs have tusks.
SPEAKER_01Cool. It's just some dwarves have tusks?
SPEAKER_06I've never seen a dwarf. Are they like half orc tusks? Yeah, I yeah, they're like dwarfs.
SPEAKER_01Can you say that?

SPEAKER_08We've been through a lot more important things than you know. It does still kind of hurt a little bit because I know there's a long history of half orc, half dwarf. Whatever. We'll get over it later.

SPEAKER_05You guys follow her, and she takes a more direct route this time. And the trip back to town and back to the graveyard only takes about 30 minutes.
SPEAKER_06Well, that's a huge difference. Why the hell were you zigzagging all over the place last time?
SPEAKER_08Maybe she didn't know where to go. Maybe she's all dwarf. She gets lost in the woods easy.
SPEAKER_01Sometimes it's nice to take a loop instead of going there and back, you know? No. Hmm.
SPEAKER_08You think the odds are that there are any other half orc, half dwarf? Really good.
SPEAKER_06They're called dwarks. We've established this. It's it's canon. Whole communities of dwarfs.
SPEAKER_08Well, they just had such a long history of animosity. It just seems like an unusual couple.
SPEAKER_01You know, when we restore Willow Shore, I'll help you to find your people.
SPEAKER_08Okay. What if we restore Willow Shore though and I turn into a raccoon man?
SPEAKER_01Well, then we can still find what whatever person that you are at that point in time, I'll help you find the rest of your people. So you can't.
SPEAKER_08Maybe. Killing the same deer over and over and over again.
SPEAKER_01You just have to be you. Whoever you are right now, you're beautiful.
SPEAKER_08Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_08And he's standing there in like a slightly oversized armor with his knuckles dragging in the snow.
SPEAKER_03I'm like, of the thing. Courtney made the joke about you being wide, and you're like, this is me now.
SPEAKER_05His arms are still the same, the same way. You guys make it back to the cemetery, and she's standing in front of one of the graves again, silently, just looking sad.
SPEAKER_01I grabbed a shovel on the way.
SPEAKER_08Okay, that was smart of you.
SPEAKER_01It was in the shed over there.
SPEAKER_08A lot of unattended shovels in a graveyard.
SPEAKER_06Whose grave is it?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, what's the name say on this grave?
SPEAKER_05It says Roger B. Thart.

SPEAKER_08It's a weird ass name for somebody living in the Tharts.
SPEAKER_02There were big Tharts, little Tharts. B Tharts?
SPEAKER_01Silent Tharts. Stinky Tharts.
SPEAKER_06Is that who this is? No, hold on. I'm gonna dump my bag of holding out and dump all the bones out onto the ground. You know, they had a whole choir of tharts. Is that who this is?
SPEAKER_05Are you asking the ghost? Yeah. Oh. She's just she has her back to you guys. She's just staring at this at this grave, not moving. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Here we go. And Pops gets down on the ground and he looks up at her as he starts digging.
SPEAKER_01There's a shovel.
SPEAKER_04Is this what you want?
SPEAKER_08You guys think this guy came from somewhere else? I think this is uh not a traditional willowshore type name.
SPEAKER_01What if we dig up this grave and there's bones inside?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, what then? Maybe they want to be together. Maybe we're supposed to just steal all these bones. Maybe he's the murderer. Maybe he murdered her.
SPEAKER_01You think we're gonna get in trouble?
SPEAKER_08We don't yeah, probably. When have we ever gotten in trouble?
SPEAKER_04Is something about what we're doing wrong?
SPEAKER_01No, you're doing a good job. Keep going.
SPEAKER_08Pops, what we're doing right now is desecrating a grave. So yeah, that's what we're doing right now is holding a broken arm in his hand.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no, just keep digging.
SPEAKER_08Don't worry about it.
SPEAKER_05As soon as Pops puts his hand to the soil, he scoops away once, scoops away twice, and as he puts his hand back down, another hand reaches out of the dirt from his grave grave and grabs his wrists. Hello, my name is Pops.
SPEAKER_08Everyone roll initiative. I rolled a natural one. Nice. You're lucky we're not doing the critical.
SPEAKER_06How many hero points do you have?
SPEAKER_08I have three. But now's not an appropriate time to use them. That was worse.
SPEAKER_01You're growing. Ooh, natural 20.
SPEAKER_08I'm the opposite. Hey, we're like twins. Except yeah. We're like twins.
