Uh yes, I am an artist. I think I can say that. Um I agree. Fair fairly safely. I uh multiple mediums. Uh I don't know if we've covered this very much, but uh both both Kyle and I were raised and we had like a full art shop. Not that we used it all the time, but um, you know, we definitely had the tools um, if not necessarily the guidance. Um, but we um we were very, very lucky to have you know at least a basic training and just about anything you could imagine. And uh it served me very, very well, uh, even though today's medium for me is mostly wood.

Uh I'm I'm working on my portfolio currently. It's a huge file. Um, but um I love that. Uh no, I can I can draw, I can I can play music somewhat. I can um I uh I have many, many skills and many, many different uh disciplines. I wouldn't say I'm a master of any of them or even really that good, except for building stuff. I do really, really well at that now. Um but yeah, it's been a big part of my life and my philosophy and and um you know I I think that there's art in everything, and I think anybody who's good at anything could call it an art. Um you know, if you put forth the dedication and the focus and and the care, um, then even really mundane stuff can become an art. I want to add on to the point.

But I have like uh I've got kind of like a uncanny capacity for like internal visualization, which means that like sculpting and painting and stuff are like really like uh right up my alley, you know. Um, I even I when I my first time doing stone carving, the first time I ever sculpted a face, my teacher told me the Michelangelo quote that said that you need to sculpt a thousand faces because they're all gonna suck. So he gave me this like real shit piece of stone and some cheap tools and left for like three hours. And then when he came back, I had like a face that was just like a handsome old man. And he was like, How many times have you done this before? I was like, I've never done a face before. And he like completely lost his shit. He went and got me tools, like nice tools, and brought me stone from his house and stuff. And um, you know, so like uh yeah, I can and like I said, we got to do stuff when we were little, we got to do um, you know, lost wax bronze stuff, and we got to do glasswork, and you know, my mom's a pretty competent artist, and so mold making, clay, yeah, drawing, painting, uh, glasswork, cement stuff, all kinds of yeah. It turns out that the real reason I didn't follow through on art is because the uh in order to be a good artist, you have to uh be willing to like uh don't you guys are gonna crucify me when I say this, but you have to be willing to expose yourself. You know, don't stop it.

Yeah. Art's not safe. Um I have a formative memory of being really young, being at the the big White House, and Kyle coming up to me and he's like, Hey, do you want me to draw you? And I was like, sure. And uh, you know, I want me like one of your French. I was itty bitty. I was, you know, three or four years old at that time. And Kyle drew a like a face, like a face of what he thought I would look like. And uh, you know, I don't think it was winning any any uh art contests, but it was like you know, he was super young and had a full grasp on you know how everything should be and where it should generally be and what it would look like, and and he just he just pumped it out in like two seconds.

Yeah, so when I you know went to art school and stuff, I gathered like technical skills, like uh like it was my job, you know, like full time, and then I realized that I was afraid to be myself in public, and so I didn't become an artist.

The villagers were given a choice. Provide information about our hidden communities or suffer punishment themselves. The choice should have been impossible. For them it was easy. They spoke. It was a rainy evening many years ago.

I have searched for her for years.

Whether she was taken by the Jorogomo, sold into servitude, or died fleeing into the wilderness, I do not know. I guess in some ways the uncertainty hurts more than finding Kyomi. For a long time I dreamt of revenge. I tracked down the villagers who betrayed my people. I watched them from the shadows. I learned their names. I learned where they slept. Then I saw what fear had made of them. Many had lost family members to the Dorgomo after, anyways. Despite their betrayal. Some drank themselves to death, others just vanished. A few even took their own lives. The spider women had devoured everyone. Even if they had not themselves tasted the blood. All that vengeance now felt hollow. So I disappeared. It's been twenty years. And I guess like you. I am somewhat of a ghost.

Nestled in the middle of the village, Kai Mago's fortress is a round structure made of packed earth and stone, completely enclosed except for four outer gates, one at each of the cardinal directions. The building is fortified and clearly built with the fence in mind. Tiny lookout windows ring the top of the outer wall, each large enough to stick a head or a crossbow through, with a slanting bevel on the inside for ease of access. The exterior wall is 25 feet high, steeply sloped roof that angles upward toward the center and reaches a height of 40 feet. The upper ring of this fortress is a 5 foot wide enclosed hall that circumnavigates the fortress within its outer wall at a height of 15 feet. The walkway has narrow arrow slits face out in all directions. Someone like Ari can squeeze through with an acrobatics check. If anyone smaller, like if you had uh the ability to change your size, you could get through without any problem. Everyone else would be way too big to get through. Coming from the south side of the village, come across a closed gate. You fly up to a closed gate. It's painted red, it's decorated with a depiction of a phoenix, and someone with no clear artistic skill appears to have touched up the painting recently, and the bird looks as if it is a bit bug-eyed.

I would say if there's anything specifically that Gardas is looking for, it's the area or the gate. Well, I guess three things. The area of the gate with the most activity, the area of the gate with the least activity, and like any if we can spot any like secret ways to get in or hidden things or anything like that. It's a circle. The inside uh is uh open, like an open courtyard with a small gazebo in the center. Uh the gate to the north seems to be almost completely like you don't see guards stationed outside that one sort of thing. They're just you don't s you don't see anyone. Although that doesn't mean there isn't someone in the uh upper level. The gate is closed, you don't see any traffic. The gate to the west seems to constantly have traffic. It is painted grey and it's decorated with a faded but majestic depiction of a white tiger. And as far as you can tell, it's just left open, and this is where the majority of the foot traffic seems to pass by.
