Can I get a raise of hands on who knows the Interstate Podcast? Not one hand is gonna get a hood up. Great, that's awesome. Fucking wicked. Anyway, what do you suffer with?
SPEAKER_03What do you suffer with? It's just me. Just start calling people out. It's way too personal. When was your first period?
SPEAKER_05Welcome back to the NSA podcast, the number one player podcast in Australia. It's white monster time. Hope you're all having a fantastic day. Um, yeah. So men's mental health awareness month. I'm calling out to me because he's done zero push-ups. Uh and it was his idea. As you guys would have heard.
SPEAKER_02It's Pride Month, okay?
SPEAKER_04Brother is like a I deny the round earth. It doesn't exist.
SPEAKER_05Uh I don't need he didn't too he doesn't need to do push-ups. He does. It was actually his fucking idea, and which is, I think, one of the reasons why I've got tennis elbow. Pookie's door.
SPEAKER_02How many push-ups do I owe now?
SPEAKER_04A lot. I would say, what are we, day seven now? So at least uh like 800 minimum. I'll catch you up. I could do that. Yeah. Hmm. Okay.
SPEAKER_05I could do that. Oh, 800? Easy. Yeah. I reckon, I mean, uh, you don't work. So if you do if you if you just did five lots of five. No, five lots of like 200 throughout the day. Yeah, oh sure. Five lots of 200 throughout the day.
SPEAKER_03Five lots of 200.
SPEAKER_04Only one lot of 800. Yeah, all that. You'll be spot on. I'm not gonna lie, it's gonna fry you.
SPEAKER_05My chest is caught. Wait, there's so much with with the push-ups. Like, I I know fatigue and failure, but like you like you physically can't lift up. Like you're you're turning almost into like a dolphin just to get the last one up. It doesn't touch.
SPEAKER_04Toby does not look happy.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I'm not doing it. You fucking this was Tumi's way of getting us doing fucking exercises.
SPEAKER_04You have to donate a dollar for every push-up missed. Bro, that's just pricey. Yeah. Well, I mean, you could just do it, but so what's the idea?
SPEAKER_02You're you're reasoning money for men's mental health. Yeah, yeah. But we haven't actually advertised for it at all.
SPEAKER_04I've fundraised zero dollars.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'll just in case you wanted to know. The only thing that I've done is just like put up the the videos of me doing it.
SPEAKER_04I didn't take any videos. I just I spin my little dump. Anyway, it's all about raising money for the suicide victims of 3,307, I believe, per year. And then every day they'll give you a target of push-ups. And an interesting fact, for today, we did 130 push-ups. I did 130 push-ups already. To me, hasn't.
SPEAKER_05So I can't actually do the push-ups because of my arm. So I'm doing some ab stuff. Anyway, sorry, Kiva.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. So 130 push-ups for the fact that one in three Australians, or one in three people actually, use AI or Chad or Chat GBT or whatever you want to call it, whatever they have access to, to help with their mental health and diagnose it. Which is kind of wild to me. This is not something I thought of doing personally. I know you didn't think about doing it. What did you say the fact was?
SPEAKER_02One in three. One in three. Oh, well, um, that's me. I'm the one. You are the one in the three of us. Yeah. I'm the one that has greatly used uh AI to deal with my mental health issues. What made you want to do that? Uh lack of friends. Um, did you know us? No, I well, it was a discovery thing straight up.
SPEAKER_03No, anyway, so nah nah nah nah.
SPEAKER_02Um I don't know. It was like a it was a discovery thing, right? You know, it wasn't like I was starting to discover that maybe my mental health wasn't as good as I always thought it was, and maybe I do struggle from issues. And my partner was the one who was helping me kind of discover that, but it was ChatGPT or like Gemini is the one I use. I turned to to be like, hey, I'm struggling with this in my life. Like, could a doctor help me? was the main question that I had because I wasn't sure, you know. I was just like, I'm struggling with like uh direction or like motivation and like purpose and stuff like that, like weird little things that I wasn't sure how a doctor could help. And ChatGPT was like, yeah, a doctor can absolutely help, told me all the things, and I've now been and done all those things with my doctor, psychologist, psychiatrist, all of that.
SPEAKER_04And for the better, what are we writing?
SPEAKER_02Have we oh absolutely I mean I still use it because I'm still on this ADHD journey and kind of discovering um personality traits about myself that are maybe caused by ADHD. So I still turn to ChatGP or Gemini to be like, hey, uh like one thing recently was like, I've never been good at keeping in touch with my friends overseas. It's just something I really struggle to do. Whereas I see a lot of people do it all the time. And I just said, is that possibly from ADHD? And it was like 100%, it's your ADHD. That's a really common trait. Um, ADHD people struggle with, like out of sight, out of mind. If it's not something I have to see, I don't really think about it. Um, and like with medicine as well, I've started taking medicine for ADHD, and the doctor only, the psychiatrist only gave me so much information about it. And because it's a stimulant, I've turned to Gemini to ask it stuff. Like when I first started taking it, like, am I gonna be okay at the gym? Uh, can I still drink coffee? And what about I'm thinking about taking it later in the day? What are the pros and cons of doing that? And it just instantly gives you all the information. It's been super, super helpful.
SPEAKER_05When so before you uh went to Gemini and asked it, like, I've been struggling with this with a doctor help. What was the first thing that made you like kind of click and go, oh shit, something's actually wrong with me. I should ask AI.
SPEAKER_02Uh I mean it was a series of things that's been building over years, and I just started to notice areas. We we spoke about it on the last uh pod where we spoke about ADHD, where it was like I just wasn't getting stuff done. Yeah, I would have a whole list of things I wanted to get done, things I want to accomplish, and I couldn't work out why I wasn't getting done. That's how I eventually turned to Gemini to be like, look, I want to do all these things, but I'm struggling to focus, I'm struggling with my like purpose. And the only question was, could a doctor help? I wasn't asking it what's wrong with that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Say, can a doctor help? And it was like, yeah, 100%. They can give you uh cognitive behavioral therapy, um, medicine, and because I didn't even know those things existed, right? I didn't know there was a medicine that would help me focus. And chat gem and Gemini just kind of explained, yeah, these things exist. Here's what you should do. Go see your doctor, tell him you're feeling this way. And um, it's very it knows when it's talking about something that is like health-related and actually gives you a warning where it just says, I'm AI, I'm not a doctor. Yeah, yeah. Here is information, but go see a doctor. It's very clear about that.
SPEAKER_05You know what? Like AI is good for just I think there's probably there's one one positive thing that comes from AI, and I think it's just you have someone to talk to all the time, which is like the friend. Yeah, you like I think you should call some like a real person and speak to them first. But like, if no, if you've tried, if you've tried calling, say I tried to call you, I tried to call you, I tried to call my wife, and I was out on site and I just had no one, I could just easily go to ChatGPT and be like, hey, ChatGPT, I'm struggling really bad. This is why. And it could, I don't think I've ever had Chat GPT tell me that any idea that I've put into it has been shit. So no. If you if you put in your struggles and it goes, yo, you're fucked in the head, bro, then I would probably call professional.
SPEAKER_04I think that's why people were drawn to that, like, you know, even if those people won't call someone, I think they're drawn to it for the fact that it is not a real person, it can't judge you. It's not that fear of them knowing you, you knowing them, the information giving out. It's also contained, but gives you good answers and listens and won't like it's essentially like uh your imaginary friend that's positive only, can talk to, nothing happens. It's it but and it has all the information from the internet.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. I mean, there's no well, I mean, it can give you wrong information, but majority of it will be correct. But even like the deep stuff, like that video that I just showed you before, that's like a meaningful uh video to me that I don't think not many people would like try and make because it's like you're touching your your feels, you're pulling the hard strings, yeah, yeah. Um and it's like it's stuff that I'm just passionate about making. So when you go to Chad G, hey Chad GB, like what I did is um I wrote out this whole thing. I was like, hey Chad because I'm not good with words, as we all know, I stutter. Um I asked it to script out this whole thing um that I can make that video uh based on. And I wrote this whole thing out, and it said I don't really need to change anything, I just like that's raw, that's good, and it just like broke it up into sections. And I was like, fire, sick. But it didn't tell me it was a bad idea. So if you I feel like if anyone is struggling out there, I feel like it's probably really good to it, like just be like, yo, Chad, what's up, Hammy? I don't want to do this anymore. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, look, it is a good tool for that. It's also a good tool for a lot of other things, but I do you think like it will replace full-on therapy? Because like I've seen a lot recently, it's taken over all the learning of like languages and small coding or what you gotta prop that up. Coding Yeah, it's taken over all the language apps, it's taken over like everything's just AI based. We've got this one, this one, this one, and it's just kind of like replaced tutors in a degree because it is smart enough, it learns how you learn and then tries to push for that so you can become better at it.
SPEAKER_05Do you think it will take our therapy instructors is that the right word? Therapy instructors? So thanks, man. Um, are therapist AI like robots anyway? Because they just go off a script.
SPEAKER_02How how is yours? Yeah, I mean, it does feel a bit like that. Like it does feel like the therapist kind of just followed the steps. He asked me the questions, he wrote in my answers, he can do conducted, yeah, okay, you you hit the criteria for this. There was really nothing spared. The psychologist was more so tailored to me and my day and what the my goals and that, but the literally the psychiatrist was just tick the right boxes, get the medication.
SPEAKER_05I think the psychologist is more based on like emotional responses from you, uh, where the psychiatrist is is like you said, it's just black and white, yes or no. Yeah, um, and they essentially follow a script. So I think maybe psychiatrist they would AI could replace. Is that the right one?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. It's tough because even with psychologists, like the stuff that he's teaching me is standard kind of psychological, so like CBT, cognitive behavioral therapy is like a standard therapy exercise that AI could easily give you CBT exercises to practice at home. That's all the psychologists are doing is you know, I tell him my problem, he goes, Cool, here's some ways you can apply CBT to these problems to help it more manageable. AI could 100% identify and give you that information.
SPEAKER_05I think it's the emotional side of things though, like I can see the emotional side, like if you're either angry or sad or or happy, but your middle finger was so bent then. It was so straight. Um yeah, I I think I think in some aspects, like I so I went, I went to the doctor uh the other day, yesterday, for this, and even throughout their whole I had to fill out all this stuff, uh right down the bottom it's got we use AI uh interface to make all this stuff a little bit easier for whatever. And I was like, okay, cool, whatever, I don't care. Um, but I think that's just more to keep all the data, I guess. Like it uses AI to I do all of that. Everything else was kind of just the same when I went to the doctor. So Yeah, I don't know. I think I think potentially it probably could, depending how there is a fucking hair there. I knew it. Um depending how how far, like how far can AI get? I think I think the reason why people use AI for mental health stuff is like we said before, it's just like a friend. It's it's literally a friend in your pocket. Well, not even a friend, just like a this someone. An assistant. Yeah, it's an assistant in your pocket. And like what Jeffy said before, it's they don't know you, they can't judge you unless it goes rogue and go, yo, yo, what the fuck is that, bro? Should we go be an OT? We should make a skit about uh rogue chat GPT. That shit would be funny.
SPEAKER_04Chat GPT just giving you the worst answers from what you're gonna look through Stash login, he's gonna be like, Chat GPT, should it be purple? ChatGPT? Why?
SPEAKER_05Well, okay, so you so you have ChatGPT, right? Yes, I have Chad. And you've got Gemini to me. Yeah. Um, right in there, can you like you do it on Chad and you do it on Gemini? Um can you give me a basic description uh on my personality?
SPEAKER_02Interesting. So just from the previous chats, you mean just write that. Can you give me a basic description on my personality?
SPEAKER_05Yep. So then it's pretty much gonna take everything that you've asked it. And I've never really used it that much. So mine's kind of basic.
SPEAKER_02But I've used mine a lot, so he's dead.
SPEAKER_04Timmy's answer is just like you're a she just says you're a fucking pussy.
SPEAKER_03Mine says I'm a cunt. That's that that's the rogue, the rogue chat, too.
SPEAKER_02One thing Lily and I always find funny about AI is it will gas you up. It'll be like no matter what, you ask it a simple question, it'll be like, first of all, to me, great fucking question.
unknownBruh.
SPEAKER_02You're so smart. Now, let me answer for you. Do you guys have it read it? It's so true though. Do you guys have it read to you, or do you read it? Depends. Like sometimes I use it when I'm driving. We just talk.
SPEAKER_04Wait, like he's like, should I have cut that guy off?
SPEAKER_02No, like as in it talks to you. Yeah, yeah like it reads in.
SPEAKER_04No.
SPEAKER_02So like if I was to say Your mom, yeah. Can you give me a basic description of my personality?
SPEAKER_00Based on our conversations, a clean picture emerges of someone who is highly driven, technically savvy, and deeply community-minded.
SPEAKER_05Kevin, Kevin.
SPEAKER_04Let me check what it says. Damn. Mine says, Proud of your trade, heavy disimagin. Reliable and service oriented, community minded, direct and down to earth. Pretty sure it's trying to say blunt.
SPEAKER_06Hands on. I don't know what that was.
SPEAKER_05Wait, I'm gonna say if this is Can you give me a basic description on my personality?
SPEAKER_01From everything I've seen, you're the kind of person who balances humour and honesty really well. You're not afraid to laugh at life's absurdities, but there's a genuine care underneath it all. See, Britt. Especially when it comes to mental health or your community. You seem driven by your generation You come across as someone who values authenticity and connection.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_05I actually really missed to me that I set my chat GPT. But you cloned my voice to be in your chat GPT.
SPEAKER_04Do you want to do a quick would you rather mental health? Yeah, gone. Alright, so alright, hit me out. This is just it's mainly for the guys here. Would you rather talk about your feelings for 10 minutes or do paperwork for 10 hours?
SPEAKER_02Feelings for 10 minutes. Yeah. I don't want to do anything.
SPEAKER_04I reckon if you ask that I reckon if you ask that on site, it'd be fucking 50-50.
SPEAKER_05Uh would you rather talk about your feelings or for 10 minutes or do paperwork? Paperwork. Me? For 10 hours. Yeah, that would seem. That's a bit too much. Would you rather talk about your feelings or suck a tick?
SPEAKER_03What's the difference? Am I right? Oh too many. Oh my god. Oh shit.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. It just has some dumb ones now. Lose your 10 mil socket every day or your phone once a week.
SPEAKER_02What was the first week?
SPEAKER_04Lose your 10 mil socket is a mechanic thing.
SPEAKER_05I mean 10 mil sockets, it it's life is to get lost. So regardless. That's gonna happen. Well let's just come up uh with our own ones. Would you rather read us some of your book that you wrote down uh when we did I did read some of the book. No, I also burnt the fucking book.
SPEAKER_04These these motherfuckers right here. Okay. They keep hounding me about this book from when I did the hibernation challenge this time last year for four months.
SPEAKER_05I don't think you burnt it.
SPEAKER_04And the whole thing is you write down this book, all these deep dark secrets, and you're all the rest of what you're thinking and everything. Then you burn the book. I burnt the book. No one has believed me, and they'll always ask me, can we read it? It's gone.
SPEAKER_05All right, would you rather reiterate a page, your most personal page from that book on the podcast live or listen to shit, I'd listen. Now, what are we listening to? Listen to monkeys squirk, squawk in your ear for 10 hours. I could I basically do that every day at work. Porcats. There's just monkeys everywhere.
SPEAKER_04Um shit. I don't know. Like the most intense one. Is that what you're saying?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I'd probably listen to monkeys. What are you oh is that bad?
SPEAKER_05I probably listen to monkeys. What do you what is the worst page in that book?
SPEAKER_04Oh, it's like monkeys for 10 hours, I think. Nah. Hey Staff, guess what?
SPEAKER_05It's fucking burnt. You're so shit. This is why I'm more the mental health one, and you're not I'm here for laughs.
SPEAKER_04I'm working on it, right? I've I've improved. But I also can't remember what the worst page was. There was a lot of them.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, there was a lot.
SPEAKER_04There was a lot. Yeah, to me. Boy, oh boy. I'm glad you went there.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that was funny. Um yeah, well.
SPEAKER_04Mind you write a journal and see what the worst page is.
SPEAKER_05Well, I can't really spell, and my grammar is pretty dog shit, so. Who's Chad? I'd rather talk to Chad about it. Kid Chad's print it out every time. Print it out. Chad, can you print out uh start shitting out a paper? Uh yeah, well, how you been anyway? How's your how's your um month been for mental health awareness?
SPEAKER_04Men's mental health awareness. It's been uh good, I'd say I don't know.
SPEAKER_05You started talking and then went, uh oh. Yeah, I didn't mean to say a word.
SPEAKER_04Well you did, what are we gonna say?
SPEAKER_05I have no idea.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_05Sorry.
SPEAKER_04How how's your month been? Pretty good? What are you stressing about?
SPEAKER_05My elbow. What's wrong with it? Tennis elbow?
SPEAKER_04Damn, you play tennis.
SPEAKER_05No, I don't play tennis. It's from work. I was doing um my wife. Um yeah, it was it's from work. And holy shit, does it hurt? It hurts a lot. Like it's hard for me to pick up that. It's it hurts a lot. That was a great job, buddy. Yeah, I mean, it weighs maybe try something heavier. It weighs not much, it weighs very, very light.
SPEAKER_04You can't, yeah, it's really hard to pick up like this. Struggle to pick it up.
SPEAKER_05But anyway, like I was saying, that's what you just know it hurts, it hurts a lot in here.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_05Is it like an ache? It's like someone is grabbing your tendons on the inside of your arm and like yanking this way. But like you can feel it like all through here, it doesn't hurt at all. It's this little ball, it's like a little ball right on your elbow where the tendons run across. That's making my mental health pretty bad, actually. Yeah. Going about it. Fine. Talking to Chad. Just ch yeah, just talking to Chad about it. How can I fix Tennis Elbow?
SPEAKER_04Speaking about talking, uh we have been asked to actually do a a talk at what was it called exactly?
SPEAKER_05I have no idea.
SPEAKER_04Uh anyway, we're doing a talk.
SPEAKER_05It's uh about mental health and the football, netball, and soccer. Soccer uh association in Northampton. Dungra. Thank you. In Dungra. And do you feel qualified on this topic? Do you think you can talk about it? I feel qualified on the well qualified is a stretch. I feel confident on the topic. I don't feel confident standing up in front of like a hundred people. Minimum was what they said.
SPEAKER_04Look, it was hard enough doing an event and being able to talk for two seconds for 20 people, let alone a hundred people for half an hour. Not even like just like, oh yeah, just give us a five, 10-minute spiel, get it half an hour up there.
SPEAKER_05They sent me the message and I was just like, hey, like, we really love what you guys do. You guys are so relatable. We would love it if you guys would come do a talk at this uh thing about mental health because we've had some suicides lately. I was like, why? Waz? There's professionals out there. Maybe that would be a good. I didn't actually say that. That's what was what was going through my head. I said, absolutely, we would love to. We'll do it. Because I'm not gonna pass up an opportunity.
SPEAKER_04We probably should have passed up the opportunity.
SPEAKER_05I don't think I think if I can manage to somehow control my emotions, I'll be fine.
SPEAKER_04I have like 10 to 20 jokes backed up just in case. Oh well, I've got just the usual one, you know? The old like, what do you call a cow that's don't bring the more suicides by the end of the night? Finish off after everyone's done. Do you guys want to hear a ghost joke? Everyone's like, no, and I'm like, that's a fucking stage. I'm gonna get his booed off.
SPEAKER_05I swear to god, I'm gonna go into the crowd. If you start doing that joke, I'm gonna boo you. I'm just gonna throw shit at you.
SPEAKER_04I'm just gonna turn around and leave. Yeah, I would too. Look, I won't lie, I'm shitting my pants. Staff said, it's fine. We can have like a bit of alcohol, couple shots. I have to go to work because I'm on night shift up. I have zero alcohol. Yeah, I have to blow in a bag.
SPEAKER_05I think I think we'll be fine. I don't think you'll be fine.
SPEAKER_0230 minutes is is crazy.
SPEAKER_04We get it, we get a pull of raffle at the end, though, so that's kind of cool. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, I think how do you it's like pre-game uh thoughts with water thoughts though? Yeah, pre-game thoughts. How do you think it's gonna go?
SPEAKER_04Terrible.
SPEAKER_05I think in my head it's actually gonna go pretty good.
SPEAKER_04Oh, like probably terrible, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I won't lie. It's probably gonna go one of two ways. Both shit.
SPEAKER_05There's there's no there's no good ending. No, I think I think it'll be fine.
SPEAKER_04I love the enthusiasm. I need it.
SPEAKER_05But I am like the fact that we're actually talking about it right now, I can feel anxiety coming from my gut.
SPEAKER_04And you're not even in doctrine, let alone close. And you're gonna have to go down there and then you're gonna be there like early, you said. Well, not too early. But anyway, you're gonna you're gonna see cars and people pool in and you're gonna go, hmm, better go home.
SPEAKER_05So, do you think the best way to deal with this is to rock up there on time and just go straight to stage? The fact that we're saying straight to stage is fucking weird. Yes. We're going up on stage, JP, to talk about mental health in front of minimum 100 people. How do you feel about that? I actually really need a poo. The fact that we're the fact that we're talking about it right now has made me want to poo. Poo peasy.
SPEAKER_04I was scared. Look, I won't lie, I'm nervous. Public speaking is something I haven't really done, nor have you. Public speaking, regular speaking, we struggle with.
SPEAKER_05We've only just gotten used to speaking to an an object, an object that's not even anything.
SPEAKER_02Just to put it in perspective, we've been recording now for pretty much exactly 30 minutes. That's how much time. Oh, that went helpful.
unknownOh no.
SPEAKER_02Love your confidence. That went quick, bro. Because it's not just speaking either, Fafay. Like, you gotta uh engage the crowd and keep them entertained.
SPEAKER_05In my head, this is this is the way it's gonna go. We're gonna run up on stage. Yeah, immediately no I'm gonna raise hands on who knows the interstate podcast. Not one hand is gonna get a put up. Great, that's awesome! Fucking wicked. Anyway, what do you suffer with?
SPEAKER_03What do you suffer with? It's just me. Just start calling people out. It was way too personal. When was your first period? It's just me walking through the crowd like a like an inspirational.
SPEAKER_04Bro, what do you think you're on an opera show?
SPEAKER_05Tony Robbins over there. Yeah, that's that's exactly how my brain sees this. Is I'm just like walking down the stairs, and I'm just like, you don't need to kill yourself in order to have a shit life.
SPEAKER_02I don't know what you know what you could something I actually thought you could talk about is how to react. So, like, there's a lot of men's mental health month telling just go talk to your friends, open up about it. What about the other side? What do you do if someone does open up to you? Because that can be difficult for people to know how to manage. I think honesty.
SPEAKER_04Well, not even honesty, it's always like the biggest thing is if someone is like brave enough to open up to you, which is a great thing, you should like appreciate them for that. The hardest thing to do, or not do, but like you just listen, agree with them or not agree, don't do that actually. Hold on, hold on, no, it's the guy's nose. Um, anyway, uh just listen. The the best thing you can do is listen, make them feel appreciated. The hardest thing is in a world full of social media and people doing everything, no one feels heard or appreciated. If you can just listen, 90% of the job, then you cannot like Staff always said he does with his wife, do you want comfort or do you want solutions? Like, do you want to how do you want to go about this? Do you want me to help you go to see someone who can better understand your problem and work you through it, or like take you to go get medication if required, or to the right specialist or you know, business or whatever they do?
SPEAKER_05You know what I got told the other day? Uh speak even if your voice shakes. What what were you even gonna try and do?
SPEAKER_04Have you seen the big las show?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, everyone's seen the big laser show.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, as you take.
SPEAKER_05Um, yeah, they said uh speak loud even if your voice shakes. And I was like, that is fire. I like that. Because if your voice is shaking, then you're obviously emotional and emotional, sad, big sad, something is hurting inside.
SPEAKER_04The stronger the emotion, the deeper the connection.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. So if you if you were to come to me and go, I'm struggling with this, um, like what J said, all you need to do is be an ear, but then you can instead of asking them, do you want uh like comfort or do you want me to just listen or whatever I say to my wife, because I'm such a good husband. You could also say, or do you want the truth? Because some people, like I think this is where you were going, they can't handle being told that someone else is struggling and they can't do anything about it. Right? So, like, especially if if someone goes, That was so loud. Right, all three microphones picked that up.
SPEAKER_04I didn't think it was gonna be that loud.
SPEAKER_05Um building. I think one of the issues is like, especially if someone is like super truthful off the riff and someone says, Yo, I don't I want to take my life, like I don't want, I don't want to be here. What does one do? Ask why bring it down. Do you do what JP does and agree with them? Or do you just sit there and be an ear?
SPEAKER_04Well, it's like every great story you hear of someone's up on the bridge or someone's you know got a gun or a knife or something. Get them talking. Talk it out, push them off. Fuck hit the second tower. No, you fucking but generally, like all the stories is like, yep, I just had to get talking to them and then this and then sit down. It's you know, could take 10 minutes, half an hour an hour. Work with them, just keep them talking, get it going. Nine times out of ten, you'll find that will that is enough on its own to de-escalate the situation and make them like feel not like they're gonna jump anymore. And then from there, you're like, all right, let's go to the hospital or somewhere and we can go see someone help.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. What do you what would you say then if someone was to come to you on a job site and said that because you're you can't just stop and uh listen for an hour. What would you do? Break for ten.
SPEAKER_04Like to a degree, depends where you are.
SPEAKER_05Things I think the best solution for that would be to happen. Break punch the apprentice is the best thing to do. I think the best thing to do would be to like, like you said, uh smoke of uh for 10, but then again, take what you said and get them moving. Instead of getting them moving, uh instead of getting them talking, get them uh moving, and as they're moving, start talking with them. So like you're still working, you're still talking, and like they're not necessarily so distracted on one topic, which is the trying to take their own life.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's essentially like stop letting their mind one run wild run wild. Stop letting their mind run wild. Helps them just focus on the thing, like you know, take break, get through it, yeah, and then be like, all right, let's go have a chat or grab a coffee or a tea or something after work. Tea. Tony would have tea. Fucking gay.
SPEAKER_05Someone say tea. Um, yeah, no, it is, and look, it's not, it's not hard. It's not hard to just listen. And if you're one of those people that are out there just like, oh, you can't talk about this shit on work hours or work time, like keep your shit at home, don't bring you're a part of the problem, you piece of absolute shit. I'm sorry, I'm I'm I'm just gonna call people out because there's way too many boomers out there or people who are being bought up by boomers that have this same mentality of uh people can't talk about their issues on site. What are you gonna do? I'm gonna come to you and be like, hey man, I'm struggling. What are you gonna do? Tell me to piss off? Okay, I will. I'll just go find someone else to annoy about my mental health issues.
SPEAKER_04The fact that you say annoy is the problem.
SPEAKER_05Well, that's what they would think. I'm only just trying to be in the mindset of a boomer, right? If it was me, I'd get a cup of tea and Earl Grey, actually, with a little bit of honey inside. Yeah, brother. Two is like missy with you. Say Earl Grey. Yeah, no, all these uh all these people need to back the fuck off when it comes to mental health issues. And actually, it's something it's something that I have been wanting to bring up for a long time, and it's people who are in charge that have this God complex and that want to micromanage people are also some of the people that cause people to take their own lives. For in fact, uh FIFO workers, young FIFO workers, there were there's been so many stories already. I got sent a video a few months ago of a room that was cautioned off because some young kid took his life on a f on a FIFO site. If you're upper management and you're using this uh I'm the boss, no, you can't go home, like the fact that this dude the reason why this dude took his life is because he just lost his dad and he needed to go back for the funeral. They wouldn't let him. He said, No, you have work to do. Like, are you fucking serious, bro? I would have kicked you in your throat and I would have just got like I would have gone to upper management more. And if they still said no, I would have just walked, I would have left to quit. That's that's legit what I I would have done. Because no one owns you, uh no one can control uh the things like your personal life, and that's something to do with personal life. I think if it's something to do with work, it's a little bit different. But it just comes down to the fact that like if you're gonna you can't let people walk all or like walk all over you. You need to have a healthy workplace. Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_04If that is the case where you work, it probably shouldn't be there. Yeah, like it's not healthy.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, if you're you if you are upper management and you have this uh micromanaging god complex, get the fuck rid of it because you're causing people to take their lives.
SPEAKER_04And even if they're not there yet, like you're definitely causing distress.
SPEAKER_05And like fifo is hard enough, let alone having to deal with your shit on site. People use people are so used to like going back to their rooms and just brain rotting on their phone because there's nothing else to do. There's no one to talk to. No one on site wants to talk about their problems to other FIFO workers because other FIFO workers have their own issues. So fix your shit, man. I think FIFO and the mining game needs to do something when it comes to like mental health. Either have someone that can over overturn like the the big boss's things if it's appropriate.
SPEAKER_04Even if they need like to have I'm looking at it from like the mining employment side, like when you do your medicals and everything to say, are you like okay to get into this business? Like have a low-key psyche vow.
SPEAKER_05Like if someone is already I think they do, but people lie. People lie in order because they think uh money is more valuable than their mental health. Okay. It doesn't matter if people have mental health issues or not. If they think what they're doing is correct and going into FIFO, then they're gonna do anything that they can in order to get to FIFO because that's they think money is gonna fix their issue. When in fact it's pro FIFO is probably gonna make it worse. Oh yeah. More money, more problem. Well, not even the more money part. It's like if you shouldn't go into men, you shouldn't go into FIFO if you already have pre-existing mental health issues.
SPEAKER_04And like, you know, separation anxieties and family troubles and like a lot of things that would make issues worse, like relationship stress and things like that.
SPEAKER_05Because you'll just come, uh you'll just become a chronic masturbator. And you end up like that in a brace.
SPEAKER_04With a dodgy L. With a dodgy L. Rather about just about ripstarting himself. What the fuck?
SPEAKER_05So yeah, you just need to you need to make sure your mental health is fine before you go into go into FIFO uh a life cycle. And I'm just gonna reiterate the people who are out on FIFO that have the do better um uh mentality. Fuck you.
SPEAKER_02So Men's Mental Health Month, what's uh to round off the episode from each of us, one piece of advice about Men's Mental Health Month.
SPEAKER_04Piece of advice. Um listen and don't judge. If someone is brave enough to open up to you, feel appreciated in the fact that they chose you. It is and if you do want people to open up to you, the easiest way, you do never force, you never force them. It's basic psychology. If you want them to feel comfortable with you, you must first make them yourself feel comfortable with them. Open up to them first. That is the best way to get someone to come to you. If you can open up and personally share your experience and your struggles with someone, even if they don't relay anything back, that sets the groundwork for building a stronger relationship and letting them come to you. Steph?
SPEAKER_05When it comes to uh when it comes to uh uh seeing I want to reiterate this. People have really good poker faces, right? You could be literally wanting to he could be wanting to take his lone life, but you wouldn't know. So you need to slowly start taking into things like memes. People share their feelings through memes, right?
SPEAKER_04What feeling is my 9-11 meme? Sorry.
SPEAKER_05Right, so like if um if people are sending like heartfelt uh memes to you, or if they're not acting the same, or if they're acting a little bit different, or they're just not them their usual self, I would check up on them. Like you they don't have to come to you, you can also go to them. That's it's not uh that bad, and it's only awkward if you make it awkward.
SPEAKER_02Mine would just be uh try to like educate yourself on your own struggles a bit more. Like for me, I didn't really know you were two months ago, three months ago, you asked me how's your mental health, I would have just said, Yeah, it's great, I've got no problems with my mental health because I didn't understand the things that I was feeling were mental health issues that I've been struggling with. And only speaking with like a doctor and a psychologist and a psychiatrist, if I now actually understand what's happening inside me and why I feel the way I feel, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So that would be my advice is get go learn about yourself. Go to a doctor, speak to a psychologist. Um, if you just feel like you're not being your 100% best self, uh, go get help to get you to get you there.
SPEAKER_04Beautiful.
SPEAKER_05That's a nice little way to round the episode. I agree. That what is inside to me was me, and that's the reason why he had mental health issues.
SPEAKER_04You were inside to me. Yeah, I wasn't. I've been trying to get a piece myself. All right, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for watching. Have a nice rest of your day.
