Welcome to Off the CUPF, a Community Use of Public Facilities podcast, the show where we explore, discuss, and introduce you, our listeners, to the wonderful world of community use. I'm Emily Brewster McCarthy.
Derek Ross:And I am Derek Ross. Together, we are your host, and we are here to provide you with some of the most up-to-date news and information about CUPF. Emily, are you ready to get started? Absolutely, I'm ready to get started. Listo para Mambo? Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm ready to Mambo. Welcome back to season two. Off the CUPF. Season two, episode one. We are back. Emily, how are you doing?
Emily Brewster-McCarthy:I'm doing great. I'm happy to be here. I'm happy to join you as your new co-host. Um, again, my name is Emily Brewster McCarthy, and this is off the CUPF.
Derek Ross:This is off the CUPF. This is. This is so are we doing like an official check-in? I know last season it was like a highs and lows, and you know, we were breaking down so many different things, but are we still doing highs and lows? Absolutely. Absolutely. Okay, okay. So highs and lows. Emily, you want to go first?
Emily Brewster-McCarthy:Yeah, my highs are we've been doing a lot of really awesome collaborations uh throughout Montgomery County. And we've spent a lot of time just building and doing things and doing outreach, and that's my bread and butter. I love that. So that's, you know, that's what I'm up to. What about you? What about your highs and lows?
Derek Ross:Ooh, highs and lows. You know what? A good, I'd probably say we've been doing so much with the community in regards to internal stuff with the government. We're talking about ADA compliances, we're talking about making sure languages is straight and tight for all of our outreach material. We're also talking about all of the work that we've been doing with certain outreach portions of it. What we've been, what, Up County Regional Services Center? Yeah. Um, what we've been to the County Executive Budget Forum, Taste of Wheaton, uh, Wheaton TJIF concert series. We can keep going on and on and on. But you know what? We just want to give people a taste, our listeners a taste of what we're trying to do with communications and everything else. Emily, what what else can we talk about? What else we got?
Emily Brewster-McCarthy:Uh, I mentioned about building relationships and collaborations. We actually had some really cool meetings with people from different departments. We went to Department of Corrections. Yes. And there are some really awesome things that are happening there. We met with Animal Services in the Adoption Center. There's some other really cool opportunities and things happening there which we hope to shine a light on. Um, we've also met with uh Montgomery County Public Libraries, which we're really very excited about. Is there anything else maybe that you can mention?
Derek Ross:I I I mean, you tell you the truth, you're you're mentioning so much. I I I guess I'm so excited. I'm so excited, you know, because we we we we left off on a hiatus. We we left off on, you know, just that moment where we had a chance to tell uh our our former director, Ramona Bell Pearson, thank you so much. You know, I think we were all crying in the room. I will I was, you know, it was kind of it was kind of weird. It was like somebody put some pepper around, so I think it got in my eye. Somebody was cutting onions. Yeah, yeah, cutting onions, you know. I got out of control, anything like that. But you know what? What Ramona has now gone to doing so many great things. You know, a Ron, our operations manager, Ron Maxon Jr., has now made it seem like, you know, we are now in different hands and we're getting ready for so much new things with CUPF. And I think that that's what's the great part about it. But you know what? I think that what we should really give the community a chance to listen to is our public service announcements that we're gonna unleash on episode one with the season two. So you want to give the community a taste of some some PSAs or something like that?
Emily Brewster-McCarthy:I see you're trying to get me to use my customer service voice.
Derek Ross:Oh, you gonna do the customer service voice? Give them the customer service voice. Let's do it. Let's do it.
Emily Brewster-McCarthy:All right, here we go. All right, all right, all right. All right, here I am with my customer service voice.

Derek Ross:Okay, okay. I'll take that. I'll take that victory. I will take that victory with one small victory and we'll run with it. You know what? I felt good with that one. I felt good. We're going to do more PSAs. We're going to kind of include these in this whole new season, too. We have Tebs. We have so many different individuals in this room with us right now that are making it happen. And so let's close this. Let's close. I want to close this by saying, welcome.
Emily Brewster-McCarthy:Thank you.
Derek Ross:Welcome, welcome to the podcast. Welcome to the communications team. I know you do so much with CUPF. You're doing so many different things. We have a lot of individuals with the communities, the public facilities that are making this, making this ship go. We're doing everything. You know, we're trying to just sail through these waters and just handle everything. I'm sorry, I've been watching movies about sailing. So anyway, Emily, how do you want to close? Do you have any good things you want to say or just I'm excited to be here.
Emily Brewster-McCarthy:I'm excited to be a part of the comms team. Uh so we have a lot of wonderful, wonderful things uh lined up for you guys this season. And I'm just excited. I'm excited to be back. I'm excited to record season two. There's a lot of really awesome changes happening, and I hope to just have fun along the way.
Derek Ross:Oh, yeah. Oh, we're gonna have fun. Yeah. I think we're gonna have a lot of fun. I think we're gonna have a lot of fun. Uh, I really don't know if I have a specific closing, except like I said, thank you. Welcome. Um, there's so much no, so much going on, so much going on, but I promise you, I don't know if I want to use the word promise, but I'm gonna say I'm gonna promise to the community that we're gonna make sure that we step up and do what's what we need to do and handle business, especially from the comms department. But there's so many people that are coming along from CUPF. There's so many new voices, new faces, and we are looking forward to making sure everybody gets their chance to shine. And we're just gonna be throwing flowers everywhere. If you ever heard that term, we're gonna throw flowers out everywhere. But besides that, once again, thank you for listening to the Community Use of Public Facilities podcast Off the CUPF.
Emily Brewster-McCarthy:We'll see you next time.
Derek Ross:Yeah, see you next time. Thank you.
