Unknown:one of our lead techs, uh, Renee, you sent a video out today, and I went and posted it about he called a big old Bullfrog internet and big O, so it reminded me, you guys frogs in pools, and we've talked about this before, and especially in our critters episodes, frogs don't want to be in the pools. Frogs would rather be in a pond or somewhere like that. When they get in a pool, they realize real quick they don't want to be in the pool, but they go in well, because of frogs, I've asked them, but they just refuse to No. I comment. They get in the pool, but then they can't get out. Once they get in, they realize they don't want to be there, but they can't get out. So I'm going to mention again, the frog log. If you got a critter issue, you got a critter issue, the frog log, it doesn't completely resolved the issue. The frogs and stuff still get in, but it gives them a way to get out. And once they get in, they are seeking to get out, but they cannot. So if you'll give them an avenue out, they will take advantage of that, and that's where the frog log comes in. So I'm a big fan of the frog, and I'm going to post a link. To it. It's just an Amazon link, but there's an Amazon link in the description for the frog log. And there's many of them just go on there. Pick the one you want. Some of them have a two for one kind of thing. But get your frog log. If you got a critter issue, get a frog log. Someone call Critter Escape, or something like that. But it just gives them a way out. I just wanted to mention that, because that's something I'm seeing a lot of. It's spring. Frogs are out. Snakes are out. Every critter on the planet's out. Baby bunnies are in and up in pools. Boy, I've been seeing a lot of baby bunnies asking
Jacque:why the frogs get in there? Because I was like, are we doing something, putting something in the pool? Is there something that they're going after?
Unknown:Well, if you leave your lights on at night, that brings bugs. Yeah, all right, so bugs come and sure, and then frogs eat bugs. Okay, so here come the frogs to eat the bugs, and then snakes eat frogs. So here comes the snakes to eat the frogs, and next thing you know, there's a little old lady who comes in, swallows them all and ends up eating a dog, a cow and a horse and everything else. But, I mean, just That's
Jacque:why I was asking, because I thought maybe there was something that we were doing well, like
Unknown:that was, yeah, I mean, it all starts with the little critters. Stuff comes. It's like water bugs, if you have water bugs, those little Zoom Zooms. No, not zoom bugs. Oh, water bugs, the little Zoomers that go flying around. They're creepy. They come to eat algae. If you don't have algae, you're not going to get water bugs. It's that simple. And then they have these ones called back swimmers. You can tell they're back swimmers, because are you sitting down? They swim on their backs. They swim on their backs, I swear. All right, so, so they're called back swimmers. They're just but they chase down water bugs and they eat water bugs. A back swimmer will bite you. So seriously, know that, yeah, they bite bad. I mean, it's not a sting, it's not poisonous or anything like that, but they have these chompers that will just flat cut you open. So back swimmers are bad the water bugs that they don't buy. They're just there to get algae, but the back swimmers are there to eat water bugs. So if you have algae, you may get water bugs. If you have water bugs, you may get back swimmers. If you want to get rid of both of them, you get rid of the algae. So listen to some of our shows, watch some of my videos. Get rid of the algae, the back swimmers and the water bugs will find a new place. So, boy, I just want to talk about frogs. It's going to get in the subject we're going to talk about tonight, which is tonight I want to talk about because this has been getting brought up, and it's a little aggravating about putting chlorine tabs in skimmers. All right, it's a definite no, no. Everybody recommends against it, and I'm talking trichlorotabs. Now, there are some cow hypotabs that are made to go in skimmers. Those are okay to put in skimmers, Cal calcium hypochlorite tabs has a high pH, putting those in skimmers is fine, if, but any other chemical, if it doesn't say, put in your skimmer basket, do not put it in your skimmer basket. And the reason I bring this up because it got brought up in our DFW pull on a group, Oh, yeah. And in the DFW pull on a group, somebody said, you know about putting tabs in the basket. And of course, you have these people. I've been putting tabs on my skimmer for 72 years, and it ain't hurt nothing.
Jacque:My daddy would have said that, because I feel like he did that. He probably
Unknown:50 years he probably did when I was growing up. Well, I mean, that's, that's what they used to help people do. But we also used to run our pumps. 24/7 are single speed pumps. They used to build pools with small pumps, and you just left them on all the time.
Jacque:We also used to think smoking doesn't kill, yeah,
Unknown:cigarettes just put hair on your chest. But the problem with putting chlorine tabs, trichloro tabs, that's the stabilized tabs. The problem with, you know, before I go any further, the calcium hypochlorite tabs, they're made to go on the skimmer, but they will scale up your basket. And what I found, what works good for that you are trying to lower your stabilizer levels in your swimming pool, so you start using the calcium hypochlorite tabs or the cow hypotens. You can take your acid, because you're going to have be adding acid to your pole, especially if you have a calcium hypochlorite tab that you're putting in your skimmer, because they're high pH, it's going to scale up. Well, you're going to when you add acid, you can just pour it over the bottom of that basket, and that will heat that stuff right off. It's fine to go right back into the pole. But I mean, what that's doing to your skimmer basket? Probably not great things, but at least it keeps it from looking all scaly and nasty, all right. But back to the subject putting trichloro tabs in your skimmer. Trichloro, first of all, it has a very, very low pH. Trichloro has a pH around 2.8 3.1 we'll just call it three. Point Zero tricho has a very low pH, that pH and the concentrated chlorine is not good for plastics or anything else, so those tabs just sitting there that is going to wear out and affect parts of your skimmer, parts of your even your plumbing really close by. I know years ago around here, a lot of guys used to plumb with flexible PVC that every inch and a half or two inch flexible PVC, and it would just eat that stuff up, because people putting their tabs in their skimmer baskets, and you would look in there, and it looked like a uvula, you know, like that little thing hangs in the back of your throat, or uvula. I did not say that. I said uvla. It's a you. It's a little thing hanging but you'd have a bunch of those, like sticking out into that plumbing, and eventually it would just completely clog up that plumbing. Uvla is an okay word.
Jacque:I'm just so proud. Sorry
Unknown:you have all these protrusions into the flexible PVC. It just can't hold up and it doesn't wear out over time. And last thing you want to do that That ain't right, all right. So, anyway, so, but you don't want to have to tear out your deck to replace all your plumbing and everything. So if you got flexible plumbing, nobody does it here anymore. If they do, they're a very, very, very subpar builder. I think on the East Coast, some people still do it, but that flexible PVC, I mean, termites would eat it, sure. I mean, it was just bad stuff all the way around. So putting those Tricor tabs in there, like if your pumps not running 24/7, when the pumps off, those tabs are made to just slowly dissolve. So all this water trapped in your skimmer is going to get very acidic and extremely high chlorinated overnight or during the period that the pump is off and water is not passing over it that you get this extremely concentrated punch of low pH and high chlorine, so it fills up your skimmer, and Then it starts rolling out through your skimmer throat, and it starts eating up the grout going into the skimmer so that all your tile and stuff, or if you have or if you have a fiberglass or you have a vinyl liner pool that very acidic, extremely high chlorinated water is getting around your skimmer throats. And because those have gaskets, and you can wear out those gaskets quicker than what they should wear out, but that will also roll out and go down the wall. And I've seen skimmers, many, many, many skimmers, or the plaster inside the pool beneath the skimmer, where you have this completely discolored plaster going down the wall, because where that high chlorine in, that low pH come rolling out and going down the wall and messing up the plaster there. So you don't, you don't want to do that. No, and when you first turn your pump on, if those tabs have been sitting there overnight. So you got this big, large section of water that's extremely low pH, extremely high. Chlorine gets sucked through your pump, through your filter, through your heater, and then out to the pool. All right? That over time, one time is probably like, okay, it's measurable, whatever, yeah, whatever. But you do that day after day after day after day, and your shaft seals because they're they have a metal part that will start eating on those, and those will start breaking down. If you have a, you know, metal components in your in your filters, those parts will start breaking down. Then you're talking that big, right? And then your heater, your copper heat exchanger in your heater, that extremely acidic and high chlorine punch going through your heater, will strip copper out of your heater. If you have a copper heat exchanger, which the vast majority of them do, but it really doesn't matter, because there's other metals and other components of that heater that it's going to eat on those and be on its way back out to the pool. So you don't want to be putting tabs, trichloro tabs in your skimmer baskets. It's just nobody recommends it. A few people, people argue that it ain't that bad. But if all the industry is saying don't do that, all the manufacturers are saying, don't do that, then maybe you don't do that and do that. So, but hey, we're going to go to break. Jacque:have. I haven't been in ours. I'm just saying I gotta have it, like, not bath water, but I gotta have a little bit, yeah,
Unknown:well, I mean, it's like, once you get in and get to move around, it's not that
Jacque:the next couple weeks. So make sure our pool has all
Unknown:No, our pool is good to go. I know we got Gerardo takes care of our pool, and we have a beta, we have a beta solar surface skimmer that's keeping the top clean, yep. And then we got an epic 8642 that's the robotic cleaner we're on now. Drop it in a couple times a week. Our pool stays looking really, really, really good. So carpool is ready. I literally
Jacque:saw the back. Yard light come on a couple nights ago, and I looked out the window thinking, there's somebody in our backyard. Oh, no, that was, I know it was him. No, I

Jacque:Oh, I thought you were putting it back in.
Unknown:No, no, there's like, like, Lord, it was like, 130 in the morning and I'm going through, he's about to come kill me. Yeah, I was going through our DFW pull owner group, and somebody asked about their Beta, yeah, about how it keeps getting stuck in the skipper. And I had responded, Hey, have you extended the legs? Because it has four little legs if you have shallow tanning. But I asked her if she had extended the legs on it to keep it from going in the skimmer. She said, These things have legs. So So I went out real quick, shot a video. And I was kind of whispering on the video because I knew it was outside the bedroom window. It was like one o'clock in the morning. So I just shot a quick video. Said, Hey, this what I'm talking about. Put this little button in the legs come down that should help you, all right, and but anyway, that's what that was about. I
Jacque:saw you. I thought there was some I was like, where do we keep the guns? Pretty
Unknown:much kept everywhere. Yeah, anybody ever want to come in? Come on in. We vote red, so we're in Texas, so, yeah, I wouldn't do that.
Jacque:I wouldn't do that. Something
Unknown:else, I want to talk about a little bit on the trichloro Now, a lot of people have in line trichloro feeders, okay? And a lot of people will install their own, because you can buy these things online or whatever. But here's a couple things about trichloro feeders, because, again, trichloro is very acidic, and especially if you have a pump that shuts off, you know, you you turn off for eight hours a night. You don't listen to me, and you don't have a variable speed pump that runs 24/7, and saves you a ton of money. You feel bad for your electrical provider, and you're like, you know what? They need more to give them. They need more of my money, those poor, poor people that just these billionaire people that just need a little extra money, you know you you don't want to get that variable speed pump. You want to keep running that two and a half horsepower pump for 12 hours a day and paying them 150 bucks a month instead of paying them 40 bucks. So you run for 810, hours, and then your pump goes off. All right, if you have when you have a trichloro feeder, just like in your skimmer, that those tabs are in there and they're dissolving and they're slowly the mixture slowly going into the plumbing, and it can back all the way up into especially if you have a tiny, tiny little leak somewhere in your system, the water will flow back through your heater, if you have a heater, through your filter, into your pump. So now that stuff is just sitting there all night long, eating on your heater, eating on your filter, eating on your shaft cells. So anytime you have an in line trichloro feeder, you need to have a check valve, a chem chemical resistant check valve that goes in line between your last piece of equipment, your pump, filter, heater, whatever you got, if you got ozonate or any of that other stuff, UVs, the last thing in line should be this trichloro feeder. And then you should have a check valve, a chemical resistant check valve behind or in front. I guess it would be of that trichloro feeder, so none of that acidic punch or high, extremely high chlorine can back up into your equipment and hurt your equipment. Right? I've seen heaters go bad in a month because a, I mean, a brand new heater, and they installed a chlorinator, and they did not do a check valve. They had a tiny little leak somewhere that wouldn't even drip water, but it would allow air in. So then the water would back up into the system and drag all that very, very low pH water through the heater and copper heat exchanger, and within a month, it's destroyed that heater. So that that's extremely important. Another point, well, because
Jacque:heaters are cheap, yeah,
Unknown:yeah. $5,500 cheap. Speaking of which, I'm best about to do a deal. If you're in the DFW area, we're about to do a deal. I just got them in. I brought in a whole bunch of Ray pack key pumps. These are ones that look like suitcases, or they look well, they look like a big old suitcase, yeah, but they're, they're shaped or rectangle. Oh, and each one will handle 10,000 gallons, and they'll handle up to. 12,000 gallons, but they're heater chiller models, and you can stack them. You can do 234, on a system. So if you got a 20,000 gallon pool, you can get two of them. Oh, depend on the gallon. If you had a 30, 28,000 gallon pool, you can do three of them. And they're extremely efficient. They'll cool your water, they'll heat your water. But anyway, if you're in the DFW area and you've been considering getting a chiller or you want to extend your season. Now, heat pumps do not help you when it's 30 degrees outside, but if they will extend your season, they'll make it swimming pool through October and November, get you swimming again, possibly late February, but through March and April, it'll warm the water up, and it does it extremely efficiency. But I got a great deal about to happen on those if you're in the DFW area. Anyway, do

Jacque:You know where pool works? Yeah, yeah. We got we got
Unknown:poor North Flower Mound, porks, lantana and porks, Roanoke. All right. You got a little bit sidetracked there. All right, so you got these Chlorinators. All right. Another thing to know about when you're doing an in line chlorinator, if you have an attached hot tub, and you can either suck from your pool or your hot tub and return to your pool or your hot tub. So you have a divide where you you can divert where your water comes from, and you can divert where your water goes. So you can heat up your hot tub, if you have an in line chlorinator, and you get it set, and you're like, trying to chlorinate your 20,000 gallon pool, and you have this attached spa that shares the same water, but you can, you know, completely separate it and only suck from and return to the spa, or you can suck from the pool and return to both. You want that in line chlorinator on the pull side of that return. You don't want to be feeding hot tub and pull with that chlorinator. And the reason being is all right, let's say you have that chlorinator set to treat your 20,000 gallon pool and maintain a five part per million, or four part per million, wherever you want to keep your pool at. So you have that thing set up to add that amount of chlorine to your pool and keep it within that range where you need to keep your chlorine All right. Now let's say you go to Hot Tub mode, and your hot tub is 500 gallons, and your pool is 20,000 gallon and let's say you're going to use your hot tub, you're going to leave it on for four or five six hours, because you got friends coming over, you're going to be in and out of the hot tub. And you have this coordinator set to treat a 20,000 gallon pool, but now it's only treating 500 gallons. Oh, shoot, shoot. Everybody's gonna get blonde. Ain't nothing wrong with blondes.
Jacque:I need to get a hair fix. But,
Unknown:I mean, it's possible, you can, you know, you can get a little bit of irritation from this. It's possible, I mean, too much bleaching stuff out. Hi, Chloe, yeah, you're fine. Tim, 10 parts per man and below, really. I mean, that's acceptable. But if you are running that hot tub for hours and hours and hours, and you have that Chlorinators set in, feeding only the hot tub now, and not the 20,000
Jacque:gallons would, I mean,
Unknown:yeah, it would be. It would be very irritating. So keep that in mind, your chlorinator really needs to be on the pool side of that tea. Yeah. Now, if you're going to be using a hot tub, and you're one of these persons that likes to, you know, use a lot, you know, maybe just, you know, as soon as you get out, or if you're going to for many, many hours. Maybe add a little bit of liquid chlorine once in a while, just, I mean, few teaspoons, I mean, or tablespoons you don't or ounces, you don't want to be over chlorinated in the hot tub. But if you're going to be using a lot, maybe just dose it a little bit with liquid chlorine along the way. Just little bits, just little bits, just to burn up any of the stuff that you've been introducing I you know, I just want to make that point on the Chlorinators and and trichloro, because trichloro, I mean, it's a great chemical, but it's like anything else. I mean, if you misuse it, you gotta be careful with it. Yes, if you misuse it, you can cause damage. It cause injury. A lot of people know now we have these cow hypo tabs. I was talking about those, those, you know, unstable eyes tabs. If you ever want to see something, blow up, real good. Then put one of those calcium hypochlorite tabs in your trichloro feeder, and things will go to pieces, I promise you. I mean, I've seen shards of plastic sunk. About an inch or three quarter inch into a fence post from a chlorinator blowing up, whole plumbing blowing up. I've seen this happen from people adding calcium hypochlorite shock to your skimmer, which you should never do, and they have a trichloro feeder, and that shock makes its way through the system, and then it ends up inside that chlorinator with all them tricho Or tabs and kaboom. I've seen this years ago. First time I ever seen this when I was just electrician. I wasn't even a pool boy. I was an electrician, and we wired a lot of swimming pools, and we had gone back to do a couple things, and they're doing the startup on the plaster and everything we're finishing up, I don't know, plugs and switches. I don't know what we were doing, but they had a guy there doing the startup, and he poured some shock down in the skimmer, and he went through the system, and I saw this chlorinator, rainbow. Chlorinator took off like a rocket. We heard about, boom, that thing took off. I have no idea where it went, but I lost sight of it as it was taking on. What? But, yeah, these things blow up. Y'all, you know, yeah. So that goes back to never adding chemicals through a skimmer and
Jacque:chemicals and they're dangerous, yes,
Unknown:if it doesn't say add it in the skimmer, then do not add it in the skimmer. I know a lot of people add Cya in the skimmer. They'll put it in those little skimmer socks or panty hose or whatever you want to put it in so the water running over it will dissolve it. Or if there's really nothing wrong with that, you just don't want to just dump the Cya in there, though. You want it to dissolve in that skimmer with the water running over it. But if you're adding shock or even acid to your pool, you need to have like a five gallon bucket, like maybe a 25 gallon or a 25 pound tab bucket, or 25 pound shock bucket, if you got any of those around. Rinse it out. Real good. Add your chemical, you know, fill them two thirds with water. Add your chemical to that water, stir it, have a wooden stick, stir it, and then add it around the perimeter of the pool. That's acid, that shock, that's most chemicals. Now, salt, yeah, you don't dump salt in the pool. Brush it around, but don't add salt into your
Jacque:May I ask why you rinse out the bucket? Because I know you have, oh, you

Jacque:Don't do that. Don't be doing that. There's so many things
Unknown:that, like calcium hypochlorite, that's that's probably the most dangerous chemical that we carry. There's so many things, if it mixes with it, I mean, it will. These are hazardous
Jacque:chemicals, and I don't think people just for my pool, it's fine, yeah, not that anybody's dumb or not, but I just feel like people just don't know you
Unknown:can get hurt hazardous chemicals, you can get hurt. You can do a lot of damage to a lot of things. So just don't ever mix your chemicals. Ever, don't ever mix chemicals, and always rinse containers if you use chemicals in it. There's another point. If you ever, like, you finished a container, you've emptied it, you've used all the product. Don't just go throw it in your trash can. You need to rinse it very, very, very well. Why is that? I found this out the hard way. My guys weren't rinsing their chemical buckets. They'd use all the chemical but there weren't rents in their chemical buckets out really well and just throwing them in the dumpster. And this was years ago, and we got a knock on the door one day, and it was the guy from Trinity waste, which is our trash guys, and they very politely told me, if we have one more trash truck catch on fire. You're going to pay for the cleanup. We were pretty confident we have traced the issue back to you on your chemical buckets you're throwing in the dumpster. You're not you know, they still have some residue in them. It's mixing with other stuff that's in other people's trash, and it's catching fire. They said three trucks they had a dump on the street, and that's what they do, trash truck, and it's fairly common. Trash trucks catch on fire. They dump the trash in the street, and then they call the fire department. They put the fire out, then they got to come clean all that up.
Jacque:So if you were a do it yourselfer, and you come to our store to buy your buckets of tabs. Your buckets of this or whatever. When you're done with that,
Unknown:no, you need to rinse it, rinse it out. Or you just, even if you're going to use it for storage in your in your shed or whatever you want, to make sure you rinse it out. Don't put anything in there very well. What I like to do is put water in it and just let it sit out in the sun after I've rinsed it out that lot of times, that would draw some of the chemicals out. But they told me, if they have trash truck caught on fire in the in it burnt the truck up, I would get the right them a several $100,000 trash truck, I would get to pay for that so, and I'm sure my insurance would not like that. You didn't want to do that. No, no, don't want to do that. So, so just be real careful with chemicals. Be real careful with your chemical containers, even like the little baggies like you if you're buying shock in the one pound bags. What I'd highly recommend, once you've dumped that shock into the pool or whatever you've done with it, rinse that baggie out too. You don't want to just throw that in your trash can, because, I mean, Lord, yeah, it's that residue. Just a little bit of that residue can start a fire. Just depends on what it what hooks up with. And if you ever have a chemical spill, a dry chemical spill, especially shocks and and some algaecides and stuff, you don't want to vacuum it up. Don't vacuum it up with your vacuum cleaner, because what else is in your vacuum cleaner, there's been all kinds of stuff going your vacuum cleaner. You can burn your vacuum cleaner up. I've done it. I've done it, not realizing that. You know, this is in my early days, built a little bit of shock, vacuumed it up. Next thing I know I'm dragging that vacuum cleaner outside because it is a ball of fire and so, so just be, just be real careful with that stuff. Any chemicals, chemical safety, you know, it's real y'all so you don't want to hurt yourselves and you don't want to damage anything that belongs to you. So that is about it.
