Welcome to the everyday adventures of the wheelie hogs join little wee and his family, especially Nana, as they live their lives alongside friends and neighbors in hoglington, kitchen disco.
It was a rainy Saturday, and all the hogs were trying to think of something a bit different to do together. Papa had been tinkering with his different wheels in his shed all morning. Mama had been in her art studio, but wasn't finding any inspiration to paint or create anything.
Rainbow was happily practicing for their new role in a musical at school. Pinky Bo was at the kitchen table reluctantly finishing some homework. Nana was sat in her favorite undercover area of the garden with her eyes closed and little we well. He had an idea.
He wheeled into the garden to find Nana. She looked so peaceful, sat in her favorite spot, listening to the gentle rain. Nana had the gentle smile on her face that let little wee know that it was all right to disturb her. She wasn't asleep. He was just being still and enjoying the moment.
Little wee positioned himself next to Nana and became still for a moment too.
He also enjoyed the sound of the rain. The smell of the garden seemed to come alive as all the plants, trees and grass, enjoyed the long drink the rain was providing. And today, the birds seem to be enjoying the warm shower too, chatting and flitting around.
Nana, what's a disco? Said Little wee Nana suddenly opened her eyes and sprang to life with an enthusiasm that surprised little well a disco Nana replied, is a wonderful thing. We had many discos when I was growing up in hoglinton at the local village hall. Friday nights were very exciting, and we all look forward to our local disco.
Yes, but what is it? Nana? What happens at a disco? I heard some older wheelie hogs talking about going to discos when they were younger, and that they said they miss those days.
Well, said Nana, a disco is a gathering of wheelie hogs who love a certain type of music. They get together on the dance floor and dance the night away. Of course, it helps if you have some sequins to wear, wheel warmers and maybe a headband in all different colors. Discos really are fun. I can show you some of my old vinyl records, if you like.
What are vinyls Nana?
Vinyl records are what we all used to listen to music on. We didn't have the devices that you have now. We bought vinyl discs and played them on a record player. I still have all of mine. And with that, Said, Nana and little wee ventured into Nana's room to look at and listen to her old record collection from her younger days.
Wow, little wee said, as Nana proudly uncovered a display of records she had carefully stored and a specifically made shelf in her room.
There were so many of them, all in alphabetical order, and all so well cared for and protected in their sleeves. Some of them had amazing drawings and artwork on the covers, and some of them had pictures on the actual vinyl record themselves. Nana said these were called Picture discs, and her favorite one was of Aladdin hog. Nana said that she was and still is such a fan of him. He was an artist, and his music is still a favorite of hers today.
How do you listen to them, though? Nana, Nana went to another part of the shelf and uncovered her record player. It was very strange, and you had to actually put the record on a turntable and then press a button which put an arm with a needle on it, onto the record. The record then began to rotate and the music began to play. Little wee was mesmerized. This is brilliant, Nana, can we have a disco at home straight away? Nana said, I don't see why not. Let's wait until Pinky bow has finished her homework and have a disco in the kitchen. I'll DJ for you all, if you like. Yes. Nana said little wee with such enthusiasm, but to be honest, he had no idea what a DJ was.
Later that afternoon, when Pinky bow had finished her homework, Nana announced to the family that she was hosting a disco in the kitchen, and all the family were invited. Everybody was really excited, especially mama and papa.
Pinky bow and rainbow were curious as to what a disco entailed, but they helped move furniture, because we all needed space to dance, said Nana.
Nana found her old rotated disco ball, which made amazing and beautiful lights on the walls and ceiling as it rotated. Papa and Mama set up Nana's record player in the kitchen. Nana chose the music, and everyone was invited to join Nana's kitchen disco at 7pm sharp.
Just before 7pm Nana announced to everyone that she was ready and to join her in the kitchen in just a few minutes, Pinky bow and rainbow had been helping the family find something sparkly to wear, and when they all gathered outside the kitchen ready to put the disco. They all agreed that they looked fabulous.
Suddenly they could hear the sound of the music coming from the kitchen, and the beat of the music made them all eager to join DJ Nana in the kitchen and dance the evening away as they entered the kitchen, the lights from the disco ball were moving around the walls and ceiling and little we was in awe at the wonderful sights and sounds of the disco.
Nana played all her favourite disco music by the GGS, bony hogs, sibling sledge hogs and the gang Donna winter and many, many more. Nana said her favourite song was called Young hogs wheel free, and Nana played that one twice.
The family all danced and wheeled around the kitchen to this amazing, uplifting and energising music.
Papa and Mama were singing at the tops of their voices. And when Nana put a track called Boogie hoggie land on Papa and Mama began spinning and spinning, and then everyone began spinning this way and that way, turning and twisting, laughing and laughing and singing at the tops of their voices, the wheelie hogs all danced late into the evening until Nana had played all her disco records she loved, sharing her favorite music with the rest of the family and seeing them have so much fun listening and dancing to it that night, after all the weedy hogs had settled down after all the dancing and enjoyed a warm drink before bed, little wee went off to his room, thinking about vinyl records and record players, and he imagined Nana when she was much, much younger, dressing up in glitter and heading off to her local discos on a Friday night with all her friends, little we smiled at the thought of her having such good fun, and he now knows what a DJ is.
Papa said DJ stands for disc jockey, which is the person who plays the vinyl discs on the record player for other hogs to enjoy the music, and that it's a very skilled job. Little wee decided Nana was an excellent disc jockey.
Little wee went to sleep that night dreaming of beautiful colored lights and music that carried him away into a deep and happy sleep.
Little wheelie loves kitchen discos.
