Guest Intro: Jazza Dickens
SPEAKER_00Welcome to this episode of the Putin Nations Podcast brought to you from Killing Studios. Right here where you get all your content done from photo shoots, podcast studios, you name it, set up tailored for you. Let's not forget that praise guy. Again, making plenty of people happy over Christmas, sharing love, sharing the joy, and helping people in need. With us today, we have our very own WVA champ, Jazza Dickens, good friend of mine, all the way over from the Mary Liverpool. What's happening?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, good lad. You just had him one take today. When I watch it, I thought that's like a cut out, but no, one take. He's flying. You either have it or you don't, that's right.
SPEAKER_00So you know what I mean. How's life?
Saudi Fight Collapse And Fallout
SPEAKER_01How we get good Sean at the minute, really good. Um well, is it good? I don't know. He had a fight in Saudi Arabia, didn't I? Yesterday, should have fought yesterday. Last week I found out my opponent had no um he had a cut or an injury or something, just got told he's injured, he's out, that's it. No um you're not gonna get an opponent.
SPEAKER_00So Did you see any proof of that? Like was there any proof of like where he was cut?
Exclusive: Anto Cacace vs Jazza In Dublin
SPEAKER_01No, got an email off the um the the team of Saudi Arabia said he's out. So um yeah. But then I just knew something else had come of it. We'll find as this goes out in a few days. I don't know when this is going to be. At that point it'll have to be something drastically wrong that went wrong, but yeah, it'll be Anto Kikachi and uh in the exclusive exclusive Anto Kikati versus Jazz at Deckens. Yeah, pre arena, Anto Kikachi on Paddy's Day. I couldn't ask it anything more showing. I got a big love for Ireland and Dublin, especially being there all that time. 100% met a lot of good people over there, so yeah, I can't wait. It feels like a bit of an oncoming for me. And so too, obviously, I can imagine.
SPEAKER_00Two like someone messaged me and it was like, Who do you want to win? And I'm like, honestly, for the first time ever in my life, I'm really two of the same people. I believe you and Jad or you and Dante were just the exact same type of person, just go down the earth, everyday people who just have a family and box, and just there's no I and I'm like, honestly, you just don't even know. Like, and and between the two is I'm literally as close to one as the other. So it's like so I wanna draw. And so he told me when we were on the way, he didn't want to see to it.
Respect Between Camps And Fans
SPEAKER_01No, but I seen that John. I see now like he's a um he's a man of the people, in he? Yeah, and I see when he won that title, how he inspired the community and stuff like that. And so yeah, um and when you're in a position where you are the champion, you can half say that it's my ball, yeah, no one's playing, you know what I mean. So you can half hostage the title and say, You're getting a shot, you're not getting a shot. Be a wanker if you want, not what I mean about it, but to fight Anton and to to give him a shot like that, it's more than more I'm more than happy to.
SPEAKER_00You say you did say in a group chat a couple weeks ago. I mean, like I would get like I'm of all people I would love to give him a bull shot, um, because he's probably one of the ones who deserves.
SPEAKER_01I've been on under Steven Ends and so view, haven't you? He's not getting a shot, whether it's be personality-wise, or someone doesn't like your personality, or someone doesn't like you personally, or because you think your your styles are wrong, you've been on at the end of that, and so by, and you think as a fighter's on, yeah, fuck off. Thought you were the champion, you know what I mean? But people don't see that goes on behind the scenes thing. Exactly it, and then when you have a wee bit of power, you use it in a way, like people love power, don't they?
Costs, Sacrifice, And Keeping Faith
SPEAKER_00Fuck, it's it's surrounded by power, that's all people work for. Um but no one would have wanted like as I say, like, it's very it could have very easily been like a bad like situation where you've you're afraid to pull it two days after Christmas, you sacrifice a full camp away from home with your family and whatever else, and you're like people don't see the money you spend, the effort and the hours you spend away, and then a faithful so you say, Oh my god, heartbreaking you just stay positive and something else happens.
SPEAKER_01Because when you go to Saudi Arabian cards, they pay well, don't they? So I'm walking around like uh push it to the limit. Scarface that's a team tune in my head. I'm spending like money's going out of fact, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_02And he gets older fighting to the limit, so yeah, everything just comes crushing down and you go, Oh, what can help?
SPEAKER_01What what have I what have I been spending there? But the kid does a nice Christmas, you know.
Longevity, Ageing Narratives, And Form
SPEAKER_00No mummy spat no you're in dad going fuck. Snakes and ladder, isn't it? That's the name of the game, and when you like you you you're the lo what is it, you're the longest current or the second longest in the years that would that be no ever ever, yeah.
SPEAKER_01The longest waiting from just turning professional to having a so I remember watching I think it might have been Antonio Margarito watching something years ago. I must have been about two years into a career, and I've seen he'd um took nine years to win a world title, and knowing you're young and you you're full of confidence. Fuck that, nine years. I'm not waiting nine years, and now I'm fucking 14 years in.
SPEAKER_0014 years then.
SPEAKER_01It was hard, I think it was hard to more. I might be wrong there, but 17 years. Imagine waiting 17 years to win a world title.
SPEAKER_00You never know you're people just trying to tell you you pick oh you're over your you're over the hill. Yeah, oh he's over the hill now, but you're not the only pick. He's 36 or 40.
SPEAKER_01And he's fucking knocking everyone out. People are saying to me, Oh, you're having what's it called, the Indian summit. Yeah. And I'm looking back thinking, this is my fucking fourth Indian summit. I've heard that about four times, anyway. When you win, they say, Oh, you're flying, you're back on you to your Indian summer, but when you lose again, you just at when you but when you look back in performances, you're not actually getting worse.
SPEAKER_00You know what I mean? It's yeah, yeah. People go, Oh, he's getting worse. Or he's over the hill. Yeah. Are you over the hill? Or people are asking me, well, another year too. Are you still boxing? Are you still boxing last year because of no fight for over here after the Barboza fight? Everyone was no one. Like, I was out getting a dinner, was there having a few pennies? We're like, You've been nice for a boxing there, folks. You'd have to convince them that you've still got it. No. You've already known me off the podcast. There's your mouth in the pocket, there's your mouth from TikTok. I box as well.
Shared Amateur History And Travel
SPEAKER_01I get in the film that Monterex sponsored me. So some some of the kids will go, There's the Monterex fella. Uh-huh. Under the fight you look, you know. I wasn't born, I guess. Or maybe you were. So we're the same age, Sean, aren't we? What what is it that thing you with you?
SPEAKER_00Like we went 33, you'd be 34. Okay. You're about the same age as me, roughly. Like, I think in boxing years, like I think we were probably the same age or a year above.
SPEAKER_01Because we went to the same European games, didn't we? That's the first time I saw you.
SPEAKER_00Poland, wasn't it? Poland. That's the first time I I admit it. Because you Gary Malloy was always your weight, you remember Gary? Gary Malloy, yeah. Yeah. I think we boxed twice. Yeah. But I always remember sparring Gary Malloy and then you were southpool, and he was southpo. Okay. And uh I was but I was always tall, massive, like big tall, skinny thing. That's what I remember.
SPEAKER_01I remember looking at it, I'll never forget the words you said. He's 57, he'd be six foot tall. I remember thinking. Oh, he's so big for that way, too.
SPEAKER_00Tall and skinny.
SPEAKER_01That was a good song with that, weren't we? We went to Germany as well. So five years. I think uh Martin Ward.
SPEAKER_00Martin Ward was on the team. He got a gold. Yeah, he was brilliant when he was not.
SPEAKER_01I think he was the only one from England.
SPEAKER_00Did anyone finally get a Jason Quigley got a gold? Jason Quigley got a gold, and so did Martin Ward. They were the only two. Yeah. And who else was in the team there? Who else remember the use? Fred Adams was in your team. Fred was brilliant when he was class.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because it was Great Britain when he weren't he.
SPEAKER_00I remember yeah, I remember uh he lost to Poland and he went like this, they accrue. And it went chaos.
SPEAKER_01It was just I was like, what the fuck? I think we might have gone to other places, you know, or was that the only place we went together?
SPEAKER_00You went to Hungary, one of the years I never went. That was the Europeans too, weren't it?
SPEAKER_01It was a year before, was it? Two years before, but it was like a two year before. There's an age, isn't it? A cadast. It's like a cadastric. It's a two-year difference, innit?
Growing Up With Little And Finding Perspective
SPEAKER_00Sixteen to eighteen, I think. Sixteen to eighteen, I because I was I was on the younger end of it. I was only sixteen. Oh, okay. And you were you would have been seventeen. Okay. That's why we were in the so like you'd be a year older than me, but we were like boxing the same age group just for the same year. Yeah, because I think I was the youngest. I was six maybe just going to be a good thing. Yeah. The one before I never went to, I never missed it because I was too young, you know what I mean? That's fucking good memory spots. When you look back at boxing and you go like it's a byproduct of doing the boxing, is travelling the world, the place you go to, and the the countries you see and the cultures you see. Did you ever go anyway as a holiday normal holiday? I've never been on a family holiday with my own family, like met my own parents. Ever been on a holiday with them, like it was like still this day. We never went on a holiday, we're all skin. Yeah. Plus, if we're fucking there was there's five of us on the get off plus we've aunt daddy. Remember getting on a plane thinking I've got a few. Never would have had the money. I remember getting on a plane for the first time.
SPEAKER_01We're like, fuck me.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I can't believe it.
SPEAKER_01Where did you go to Face Adam? Do you remember?
SPEAKER_00Middlesbrough. I was hoping it was a return flight. Middlesbrough was in England. Middlesbrough in England. Yeah, we met the box. I think it was like 14, 13, or 14, first time on a flight. Like my young fella and I, he's like fucking four, he's been in five or six holidays. Mad innit? Different life, like, compared to when we were growing up. Like, we had nothing. Like there's a videotape, and my dad, like, I was two, it was 1984. My dad played, put on a VCR and plate, and it's like all us. He's on the round of our camp quarter when we were kids. And you want to see, like, we haven't even got any wallpaper on the walls. It's just all names, it's just all nasty. It's like Jazza. Up the poly, but up the edge, you know what I mean? It was just all just graffiti. And we had no floor. It was just like black floor, little concrete. Yeah, it was just on the tiles and stitches. Yeah, and the kitchen all that. Yeah. That's just the way we lived, like, and people go, Why'd you never go on a holiday? Yeah, you should floorboard floorboards.
SPEAKER_01It also messed me up because it was the first time I went away with England. You went to Ireland Coastal, didn't you? The bottom of the city's paradise. And I was thinking, wow, is this where everyone's been going? And when you go back to school after the summer holidays, when you got them kids to tell the tan and all that, been away, yeah.
SPEAKER_00They've done this, done that. I used to tell people lies. I was like embars and school people were like, oh, where are you going to holidays? They go in salute. I've never been I've never done this in my life. Just tell them fucking lies because they've been bars, because they all obviously they're man dad if you quit managing for skin.
SPEAKER_01I didn't even have a nanny. You say have you ever kissed a girl? I want, yeah, kiss one by my nuns. I didn't even have a nans until I like go and ask for an hand, I haven't got one.
SPEAKER_00But they were fucking, it was cute. Then you realise when you look when you look what kids are getting now, when people say fuck it's not the same no more, it's literally not the same at all.
SPEAKER_01No, it's mad, then it's our parents must have been the same as us, mustn't he?
SPEAKER_00100%.
SPEAKER_01But they were saying the same, so we just don't know lucky you've got it and stuff. I know, so they must like I know.
SPEAKER_00If we got it lucky, fuck when you look at kids now, you go, fuck me. Kids don't even ask for five no more to go to like McDonald's. Like I was a luxury. Yeah. Go to McDonald's. Yeah. Now they're going, can I go to Nando's? Give me 30 quid when I go to Nando's. I said, fuck on 30 quid.
SPEAKER_01Can we go with the restaurant?
SPEAKER_00The kids say to me. Crazy.
SPEAKER_01Fucking beans and toast. Ravioli and toast here. My little fella Sean Rice, he loves beans. So you go to the kids to the shop with the kids, you say get some sweets. He's gonna have a can of beans. It's so funny. Come on, lad, are you messing? You say he just get some sweets and he goes on the beans. Not a beans. Christmas prep. I have beans on toast the other day. It's crazy that beans on toast when you have some after years. You think I remember this? But my bird said to me, You're gonna have to get some more beans. You guys are Jimmy's beans, you know.
SPEAKER_00Next year we have a calendar for beans on toast every time we open it for Christmas, on Jack the Binstalk. You said your your young father has a bit of MMA, does he?
Kids, Values, And Changing Times
SPEAKER_01No, but he he doesn't do, but if he was gonna train or he talks about it, or if he's gonna go into it, he said, MMA, yeah. That's the new boxing, I think, no.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think I think it's I think it's um promoted better. You know them on first name saying, if I was to say Connie, you know Monabot or Sant's even like Patty, Patty Pimper, yeah.
SPEAKER_00You just know the honor about or say Maurice know you're on about there. I think like there's a when you once you're in the UFC, like the money and all I always hear from people who's in the sport that the money's crap, but the the exposure's massive plus uh the sponsorship's massive. Yeah. So it almost makes up for you know the the person and the exposure that the UFC gives you that makes you charge whatever you want for sponsorship.
SPEAKER_01I think they have a thing, don't you? Like the UFC, where if you used to fight on one of the biggest platforms in the year anyway, you can get there just by being um funny on the internet, can't you? Or selling loads of tickets being popular. Yeah, all the things in the UFC, it's on merits, innit?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you can say what you want. Yeah, whereas boxing's different, you're you know it's I like I like the way they keep people out.
SPEAKER_01Because anyone can turn program, can't he? Yeah, anyone can turn pro. And I like that, you can make your dream come through, but it's also some good fighters missing out on the opportunity because he's not good on the internet.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, 100%. That's I think that's where it's going now when you look at your call fucking defeating Joshua for about it.
SPEAKER_01Promoted last now, you know. Um how many followers he's got people last yeah, promoted last time. Me and man and your generation think is the last of it where we don't think that way. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Going forward now, people have their own workshops and how to get kids to be good on the internet just to get their following up before they even turn pro. Yeah, just be funny, just be good crack. Save all the years or fucking. That's the way it's gonna be it's it's gonna have to be like that. Like kids are gonna have to learn how to put in the competition on the internet's gonna be so hard. Yeah because everyone's gonna have to do it, it's gonna get harder and harder. Yeah, yeah.
MMA vs Boxing Promotion And The Social Era
SPEAKER_01I watched the um the thingo tight fight and do tight fights the other night. I was there and the level of boxing to what we consider is good, it's crazy, innit? But I even him I seen on on the on the build-up, because I'm aware of this, yeah. I seen his content, social media content, drop massively, nobody's on the internet and all that. Because he can't do two jobs, it's a full-time job.
SPEAKER_00When you're on the content, you're just it has to be because you think of the many hours they spent. Yeah. And even one of the wee influencers that I know were telling me that they have everything pre-planned, like weeks before. Weeks before, like even when they're doing the food blogs. Like Hushville campus, yeah, like yeah, probably like they have it like set out like it's it's like an itinerary of what they're gonna do on the lead up to a big full-time job, like in it.
SPEAKER_01I don't think they get the credit, really. But what my point is you can't do two. Well, you can't be the best at two. Yeah, I don't think anyway.
SPEAKER_00There's only so much hours in the day. Like I I I post twice a week, probably at the the mostly. The very, very mostly, and it's like my algorithm just must be fucked because yeah, I stick a podcast thing on, and I'll stick a boxing video on, and I'll stick a photo of me and the family for Christmas on. And then it's back in the podcast, and then it's like a photo of me and all the lads. It's bad. Big Mark in the middle.
SPEAKER_01It's just my algorithm. I've been with Big Mark the last two days. You got me got me um looking big fat belly after Christmas getting that. He got me I love Dublin t shirts too. He went to get me bed and Aaron put me up in his gaff while I was there in Dublin, Aaron erm Aaron Dun, yeah. And um shout out San A. So he erm Mark and got bedding for the bed. I was like, Mark, I'm not ball, it's just just the bed, Mark. And he said, No, no, you need bedding and all that. He's like me after. And then he's like pennies in it for the prime match. You see penny's playing cheese, yeah. It's fucking um I love Dublin and Lola. Like me after. And then he got across the border and you have to fucking come across the border smaller, suck me. Um it's Sunday inner, so I thought I'd go to mass today and then I have to come up here and I'll find the mass up there. I thought I'll know better than you never know. You might walk into the wrong chair to get my knees pulled.
SPEAKER_00I think Mark's probably phunged up the lad at the end of the comment.
SPEAKER_01In the group chat, did he send any um questions in the lads?
SPEAKER_00He didn't give any specific questions, he just says you better uh touch on uh Jazza's channel.
SPEAKER_01I'm jellyfied to say it's automatically because you love him. I laugh at me page that's when I was nervous.
SPEAKER_00Like, oh fuck that I speak to Jazza about his upbringing and fucking because I I get nervous, so that's that's why I laugh because I'm a nerve. So when people tell me, oh fuck, I'm trying to kill myself, I can't help myself but laugh because I'm like, Well, else do I want me to say? So Mark was like, uh, you better ask Jazza about his upbringing and his book.
SPEAKER_01So I was sitting there in the car, meaver before me and me'avel in the car, and I'm winking at Mark saying, I'm gonna tell the tell Sean meavel you used to touch me. As he says, and and Mark's going, You better talk about yourself.
Content Creation Is A Second Job
SPEAKER_00It was like, if you get Jazza talk about his ja about his trauma, you better fucking ask him about his trauma, about his upbringing, and laugh in his face. I'm like, fuck, I don't know if that's the if that's the right thing to do here. Like I'll be throwing off fucking YouTube for it. What was Monaco like? Unbelievable. Some spot. Never been there. Mark sent me the videos. Oh, it was class. Some set up like uh it's a great show, no it's so no obviously there's only like 800, right? Only 500 people in the place, and it was just like everybody was so close to the ring, but it was class. One person in the crowd, your Z was just going, that's very it's like a black half and everybody had a wear a suit, right? So all the lads were wearing suits and they're all looking well. Some of them were on TV, sunglasses and on. I'm going fucking everyone well behind where the young Z just after this. I get out of the ring, right? Walked across, get shot, had to do a drug test over in the hotel, came back. Um, I came in and looked over and seen all my ones dancing about. My mate, Victor, pulled all the suit off, ripped his whole hang the legs right up, and I was like, I was like, the Prince of Monaco sitting here, and Victor directly facing him, rolling buttons ripped over. Oh fuck, I'll not be like back. But in Fernandes, I'll all the match and stuff, like they loved, they loved it. They thought it was burning. 100%. Hopefully to do it every year and fucking invite me back. Easy a party. Belfast? Nah. I think there's uh they've got the they're talking about the undercrocker fair that's in April, the end of April. The start of May they're talking about talking about fighting Devin Hilly, it's fucking that's a big name. But that'd be first park. It'll be in the in the Windsor, Windsor Park. That's a big big big stadium fate. Uh and then Paddy's Day. There's nothing here on Paddy's Day, like I don't think. It's just uh everyone go down to Dublin. That'll be it's gonna here it's turned out to be a really good card. All the scouts are coming all like all the scouts, all the dubs. You're gonna have support from everyone.
SPEAKER_01Everyone's gonna get everyone all off the cake all together. Yeah, 100%.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it'll be chaos.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be I like fights like that though, Sean. It doesn't have to be needle, you know what I mean? It doesn't have to be like selling it like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it it never is it. Listen, see if you're see if you like boxing, it's one of the best fights you can make now. You look at it, you're catchy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. He's on some run, any?
SPEAKER_00He's on a good run, yeah.
SPEAKER_01He's look he's he's he's beat Wallington. Um Lee Wood.
SPEAKER_00Lee Wood. He beat Joe Garina. Lee Wood and then's fucking four big domestic names. He's on the same run now that Josh Warrington was on.
SPEAKER_01Remember when he beat Frampton? That's right.
Monaco Fight Night And Big Event Talk
SPEAKER_00Selby, like the same, same, innit? It's just all domestic names, and it goes to show you what what it does to your profile when you know what I mean. So like if you think about like before Warrington lost to Laura, like no one knew who Laura was. He got more credit for beating, like obviously Frampton, who was like he he was probably passing it as well. But I mean he still got massive credit for it. Yeah. And he probably got and he's fighting Lee Wood again. It's gonna be another massive fight, even though they're both probably passed. Do you know what I mean? So it's like it's it's just more for your profile.
SPEAKER_01And it doesn't make sense, like you say, they risk risk risks to the war, don't it? But it's a genuine fight, it's not like oh get in cut because he's um he's well known, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00He's world champion, isn't he? 100%, and then if you and Kakati as well. Because like a year and a half ago, Lee Wood or two years ago, Lee Wood wouldn't give you an opportunity to fitty. No, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But now the fights are the same for the way and Waddington was the same.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So like now that you they weren't probably on the upper hand because they had the balls and they don't want maybe fitty because it's just again low risk, yeah, or high risk, low reward. Now they would have at least swapped completely with like you're yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, you should always start the conversation by saying I'm happy, and so it's got to fight. Yeah. I wouldn't also be like that. I wouldn't think like that. Yeah. Fuck him, he's not getting a payday. I don't believe in it.
SPEAKER_00I know people should just if you think if you want to fight them, I don't think that's the right thing to do as a fighting me. I don't know. I know I don't think it's not in it, I don't know. I just think he doesn't deserve the fate. Like I wouldn't say it's a carpet, but it's like who like who do you think you are? Yeah, yeah. Like we yeah, you like position, it's boxing if you think it's gonna be a good fate and it's a good uh public interest fate.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Do you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. I know. Yeah, because it does get control behind the scenes. What the fans love and what they want to see. I'm not saying I'm doing it for the fans or not, uh doing it for my own livelihoods, aren't I? But I don't think you can you should hold it hostage, but it does get held hostage. You see behind the kitten when you you see a lot more than the the average person, don't you?
SPEAKER_00Being in the game, but big time is people don't even realise how like how bad it is in the inside. It's fucking horrible, it's a horrible game, Nick. As is our good mate, Screamer says, Love the uh love the sport but hate the game. He says, I love the sports.
Why Cacace Is A Live Threat
SPEAKER_01I've seen Screamer yesterday. Stevie Collins took me on the pads. Steve Collins, Steve Stevie Steel Ormonds took me on the pads, and uh Screamer's just knocking him off the side.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, look here undoing all Albert's work and all that. I know. Here it's fucking it's a great uh it's a great camp to be part of. That's why like when all the lads, obviously Pete went to Amsterdam and all the like you left and everyone, like the the group of boxers we had at one stage was pretty much. It's unbelievable. The training we were doing was class, and then but the atmosphere was brilliant, and you're enjoying it every day as you're gonna that's why I kept all the lads together. Yeah, I tried to get no meaning, they were like, fuck you, yeah, fuck off to Pete Amsterdam, and they still get me stick a bit.
SPEAKER_01But is that why? Because I was seeing that you got Tommy in the corner and Mark too. Is that what's going on there?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. I just I want marker, so Auntos like Sean's going for your purse like they're gonna have to get a car, get marker, I want marker.
SPEAKER_01Yeah I love to tell Mark you're not a good cup, cutsman, you just greet with the cut.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, um goes, mate, why is Mark here? Why is pick marker? He's like, 'cause he's the toss, so he can get rid of the ball. And everybody can see it. And he can pick it up when you win, steal all the glory. He's the best guy ever stealing the glory. You stole your dad's moments, yeah. And your dad's in the background, just like Mark from nervous when he didn't forget.
SPEAKER_01I say to you I promoted that we didn't I say to Mark, you smashed me out of all the light bulbs all the pinates. I think great, but it was some can't be at your money. Me, you, Cully, Senn and Kelly, Tyrone McCannna. Yeah, Paul Ryan.
SPEAKER_00Paul Ryan, Tony, Tony McGlenn was there. Um yeah, his boss ain't it? Yeah, crazy. You stole Shane on Butch.
SPEAKER_01I thought yeah, I ratted Butch and I robbed his fighter.
SPEAKER_00Robbed his figure. Don't know what Shane's doing, I don't know. He's he taxed Pete last week, said he's he wants to come over. Not last week, just before my fate. So start of December, said he got a date or something for January.
SPEAKER_01I d I didn't I didn't fix that fight. No. Is that no? I don't know, I didn't do that. I don't know. Who else managed it in the world, aren't I? Who's supposed to manage this guy? He's running around organizing some bitch and you went to all hill. Like he was supposed to have one in Dubai, but he um he he was injured. Yeah, he had issues, he couldn't fight, which was a bit of a nightmare because he if you could have gone on that scene there the promoter takes a chance here to get you back. Yeah, you know, in the Middle East, it's where the money's at the minute right now, innit?
Gatekeeping, Titles, And Fair Shots
SPEAKER_00Yeah, big time and he's good, like he's fucking very good. He hits hard, doesn't he? Like he's fucking yeah, he's classic. Three and out, three and a half he to be in boxing and he'd be a wee bit nuts, but he's a wee bit more than a wee bit nuts. He's mad, isn't he? He's nuts. He makes boxes, yeah. Look at him and go, he's mad. Yeah, like normal like. I've seen him sparring Joe Ward, and Joe Ward was like playing about with him, and Joe just goes boom and pulled over and hit him left hand, and he just goes woo. He just stopped and goes, Woo! And Joe and Furnace Joe stood off and like he was like he was looking at their ring, going like woo, and then he goes, Alright, let's go. And I was like, like Joe hit him flash on the chin, and he just goes woo and started laughing. And he took a sacking in the corner and he looked out of their ring at me, and people's like did he? And he just goes, Right, let's go. And start laughing again, and even Joe, I think Joe was like CV's got in the ring in an actual fight. Yeah, yeah. That reverse psychology was fuck you because you go, I can't hurt this guy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, I was laughing me out when Jay Paul was doing it on the floor, broken Joe shouting woo. AJ's mad, isn't he? He must need on the bend in must need to do that. What do you reckon on them fights, Sean? Like, because a lot of people eat it, don't they?
SPEAKER_00But I just think I don't I don't hate it at all. I think listen, he's brought so much attention to boxing from an outside. Like if you look at like the growth of boxing because of him, like the met the eyes on the boxing, you know, it's it's another it's another platform.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The boxing aided, you know, they've obviously you have let's say you've got the zone right across the board.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But Netflix got involved but only because of him, and then Netflix have Canalo fighting um Crawford. They had that fight. So now it's a whole new platform for people to go and match boxing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it's an opportunity, like Kitty Taylor's getting them big massive opportunities doing well and doing well for women's boxing. So you can hate him all you want as an individual, but you can't hate what he's doing. Like, even if you're a boxer in the game, you can or or just a spectator.
SPEAKER_01Not to mention the people, the real fighters who are on the undercard. Because you can respect real fighters, don't he? Also, at the same time.
SPEAKER_00Like everybody's benefiting from him to be fair, like kissing his ass, no, trying to get on the gate. Over here, pick me, pick me, pick me, fuck him, pick me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's alright. Times are changing, aren't they? I wonder when I went from 15 rounds to 12 rounds, they were saying the same thing. Yeah. What is all this stuff, all this gay stuff going from 15 to 12 rounds? They must have been, mustn't he? Yeah. Or six ounce gloves to eight ounce gloves. Definitely. They must have been saying that.
SPEAKER_00Even that I think does he fifteen rounds? You're like, fuck me, are you serious? Yeah.
SPEAKER_0115 rounds and six ounce gloves.
SPEAKER_00If the if the pace dropped.
SPEAKER_01When you're watching back though, even the I think the heavyweights are at a faster pace, thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Do you like the fellas though, ain't he?
Camps, Coaches, And Cornermen Dynamics
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're later, definitely smaller and later. That's why people people talk about generational greats. Like every I believe every great fitter in every generation, but I say like I think they've always got better rates than I has. I believe that is. And I believe Usyk beats Tyson, and I believe Usik beats because their style has been great in that generation. But the next generation has took that style and added a wee bit more to it. If you look at Tyson, yeah, but then you have Usik doing the pick-aboo style with his feet. Yeah. Stands on the shoulders of the Giants. They say he's on the Yeah, so every like if you if you look at the right back to let's say Fraser.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it would probably knock you out. He'd be big heavy hands. But then Mike Tyson is a similar style of Fraser, Joe Fraser. Yeah, yeah. But he's better because he has that better defense movement. And then you look at Tyson, who has a similar style to him, let's say Ishik, he does the same thing only with his feet. Yeah. And then and then if you look at the other flip side of it, you've got Mohammed Ali, and then you go to Laurie Holmes, you've got Lennox Lewis, and they're all bigger, but doing a similar style. Yeah. Because people just add everything, haven't you? And just people small into that style, but add to it each time. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because you have like someone who's Rocky Marciano and you say, Oh yeah, you see the armchair fancy beat Tyson Fury, but Tyson Fury's 40 kilo every day. Exactly. And he's six foot seven.
SPEAKER_00You know what I mean? And uh people go, Rang Tyson Fury would have beat Mike Tyson, and go make Tyson it would have been like beating a jack rush over a stick. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01People look at Willie Pep and say, look at his footwear, he's the greatest footballer. And then you look at Lomachenko. I know. You go, Oh, you can even compare Willie Pep's feet to Lomachenko to Mad in it.
SPEAKER_00I'm pertinent. My cousin he messages me all the time saying like just mad fantasy boxing fates on Instagram. He just taxed me what I ain't about. What do you think of uh Pernel Brigger was a fate Foi Mayweather? Who would win? I says, I think Fi Mayweather would run. He was like, nah, fuck off and then start this big argument then, right? Just give me my opinion. You've yeah you've taxed me asking me my opinion and I ain't giving you why. He says, Well, Fly Mayor doesn't really make much mistakes. If you're gonna watch, if you're gonna watch Perno Brigger, he looks better and he's more like he's class to watch. But he makes mistakes and he opens up we but more floor maybe whether doesn't make mistakes. Yeah, yeah. And that's why he can't counter, that's why it's hard to beat him. Yeah, it's very, very hard to beat him, and that's why I never lost. Marcus Might Dana fucking beat him. I was like, he didn't get the decision deal. I was like, now you're just talking about something you've started this conversation. You want his arguments, you didn't want it to be, yeah. You fet me your bird. Is your birth to be your dear half of you? Yeah, you that's I think that's the beauty of like boxing, and you always have like different opinions. It's always gonna have to find it.
SPEAKER_01I always find as well uh everyone will say my generation was better. Yeah, well but that's how they know what. Yeah, and everyone's after says my generation has it waste, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, like the old saying is like like even like in football, Massey Massey couldn't dribble on a pitch, it was molded.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, I've seen that one, yeah. More than I could, yeah. I'm going fuck me on the tackles as well.
SPEAKER_00You couldn't you couldn't take the tackles, it's just it's uh Yeah, I was who was it that was listening to saying that the other day in football?
SPEAKER_01Do you reckon that uh every generational grade could have lasted in any generation because of the uh the adaptability and the adaptability, that's what it is, you just adapt it.
SPEAKER_00That's why they're so good. Yeah, like tends to obviously adapted. How do you get there? How do you get to play in that position? Because you obviously play in a lumpy pitch at one stage, yeah, yeah. Of course, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I think that's your you talk about um coming through the hard way, so like um you have the the traditional fighters who come to like area champion, regional champion, European champion to world stage. I believe real good fighters they can do it at every level because the regional title it's a different style to the European, and European is different to the world, I think. But you see a lot of fighters skipping the regional stage and you get the intercontinental belts and that they they fall short when they meet someone like from Mexico. Yep, you've traveled the world, you've seen every style, haven't they?
SPEAKER_00You've experienced it. That's what I mean. I think like the harder fates are regionals, yeah, like hard like domestic regional fates is like fucking they're tough to skill a lot of time. Atmosphere, like the ring, there's it's not in a big stadium, the atmosphere's different. Yeah, it's like intimidating more. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um so if the like the Chinese, Japanese, is it Chinese? Don't know if they Japanese they just sit there quiet, don't you buck? Yeah, just clap like it must be mad for them to come to imagine going to your hole and then gargled.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, with phone paints fucking gargle, have girl in the ring, squealing shit that they don't understand. Probably saying Chinese when they're shooting it. But uh yeah, I think that's what I think. You have to come through it, like at some stage to be able to get to that stage, you know, and that's how you become a that's why you're great.
Influencer Boxing, Platforms, And Exposure
SPEAKER_01Yeah, if you do it that way. If you say, like you'll know loads of fighters who've who've got a good opportunity, but you know him from the amateurs, and you know we never had no foundations, yeah, and he's gonna fall at some stage and it happens, don't it?
SPEAKER_00It happens all the time, it happens so much. Like just last week where we were looking like even at my fight, Connor Walker was fighting Pat McCormick. Yeah, Connor Walker was saying all week in the in the in the press conference going, he hasn't fought anyone like me before who's been through it and have fought Lewis Cracker, and I've been in like in really tough fights with tough fighters and have proved they're gonna do it. He hasn't. This is only his name fight. He's skipping stages, yeah. And I think that Pat McCormick will have learned a lot more in that fight losing than he will of any other fight, just beating people up. And like Pat McCormick is unbelievable, technical, very good hands.
SPEAKER_01Nothing wrong with Pat McCormick, is he just skip stages in it?
SPEAKER_00That's all it is, just pushed in the pushed into a fight he he took maybe when he shouldn't have he could have taken a few.
SPEAKER_01I think a lot of promoters are uh dropping the ball, matchmakers. I don't think they're doing the job recently.
SPEAKER_00Like if I if I was a match anime upcoming fighters with going to water, you're in for a hard night regarding it. Like it's not only you're in a hard fight, you're guaranteed to probably either get injured and you're gonna have to have a long break after it, because it's gonna be like there's gonna be cuts involved, because he's got that type of fight he's gonna put on you and uh you're probably gonna hurt your hands, you're gonna have a it's it's probably you would you only have a fight like that once or twice a year.
SPEAKER_01Some people are gonna are gonna take you with them, Andy. So if you if you're gonna damage me, I'm taking you with them. Yeah, 100%.
SPEAKER_00Win or lose. They win or lose. Yeah, it's like people are saying Pop was winning, but at the time of the Natalie, that's it's the period of boxing, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Ah, it was class. Well in a fight, you've got to say congratulations, both men win both.
SPEAKER_00They they both play a part in it, don't they? Like, yeah, not a lot. But that's uh it happens too often where boxers just get that opportunity of skip and then they get there and they just boom, they lose, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, skipping stages dangerous to me. I don't think um I think 'cause maybe the putting too the promoters promoters are maybe putting too much money in, trying to get as much out of them as they can. I don't know what it is, but then I'm actually.
SPEAKER_00If they don't think they're gonna be profitable, if he can beat Cornell Walker, he will be profitable. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. Then I can make then I can really push him, push him hard. Investments, aren't you? That's all you are, you're on your product. Yeah, but in boxing, it's on the next one, like, isn't it? It's like, nah, I don't think promoters really give a shit about you on a personal look like. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Everyone's the mate as well, aren't they? When they're doing well. Yeah. My mate, promoters are best mates with you, aren't they? 100%.
SPEAKER_00Crazy, it's just a dirty hour fucking space.
SPEAKER_01It's like us and them, isn't it? If that makes sense, and until they're all winning together, and then we're best mates, and then you lose it to us and them again. But I've been managing Sean, and you see from the other side being a manager, how they hate us. Yeah, but just offered you, just got I've just done all the work, delivered this opportunity, put it on a plate for you, and now you're saying no because of something so silly, you know what I mean? Yeah, and you go, You're trying to get yourself out of this fight. So, what's going on here? It's the best you're gonna get, you know what I mean? And you see why they don't like fighters.
Evolution Of Styles And Generational Greats
SPEAKER_00Yeah, 100%. They must see us as rats. Oh they that's it's like it's it's two different, it's like it's two different careers of fighters, just the fetters there to be told what to do. You do right. It's they have the power. That's what they believe, and they want to always keep the power. Yeah, they don't want to share the power with features, so when you're coming in, they're gonna mistreat you every like you don't know. You don't know from my side of the fence. Yeah. You don't need a feather, you don't know. Yeah and they have got a job, Andy. Yeah, so it's yeah, I've got a I think everyone needs they all need each other. They all big time. Well it's just like a F game of like keeping contacts happy and keeping people happy. Of course, yeah. But the same it's the same thing. Like promoters and and stuff like that wanna keep people, keep the right people happy. But fuck them, it's no like deep in the shares like they're not made of mine, it's just like just keeping happy, but you like it goes from from the top to the bottoms, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_01Sanctioning bodies, promoters, managers, everyone plays their own part, even the media, even the media, they do their parts, but everyone needs each other. Oh a hundred percent. So the media's gonna just expose your life for these seven minutes of um views, likes, and clicks, but then you're gonna use in to publicise yourself. It's mad, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00It's just it's just once you have our control, then you've you've got the game, you can you can make it.
SPEAKER_01People like me, do you show any box for our country? It's it's mad to even think that's gonna be the future of boxing, innit? Yeah. When you're just travelling the world winning medals for what? And even thinking about it's Ohio or the publicity, you're just thinking about getting that gold medal back on.
SPEAKER_00It was probably Bebo or something back in it for was it social media platforms Bebo and MSN. Bebo. We had to go on to go to an internet cafe. Yeah, well, I was thinking about this show when I say pro.
SPEAKER_01When I say bro back in the day, we had black and white television had the real so things that I had when I was thinking about what I used to have. What was you like when it what years are you saying pro?
SPEAKER_002018. You were probably in the gym.
SPEAKER_012010 years back. iPhone was on something like the iPhone 5. Um, it was just a different world. Um what just came about Blackberry BBM member? BBM because we've got Castle Asses, it was pretty ping, ping, ping, ping, ping. I love it. Um yeah, iPhone 5, BBM weren't even out at that time. Like you say, the Facebook was the thing, Twitter and Instagram weren't weren't out. Yeah, weren't it, nothing like that. Um TikTok weren't even thought of, was it?
SPEAKER_00Now you have so much platforms, Snapchat, you fucking YouTube's the main one, innit?
SPEAKER_01YouTube and from any social media because they die, don't they, in the end? Oh, yeah. But I think if you've got YouTube and that's your central hub, you can take your followers from any from platform to the next new one. Just keep it on us, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But like I think YouTube as well is where the money's at. Yeah. So make sure you fucking subscribe. I'm skint. Uh but yeah, it's sad. I think like YouTube is is the biggest platform overall, isn't it? For for like for building a career, I think, for me. You're you've got your YouTube channel going. Jazz TV. Jazz TV.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna do YouTube today, I'm gonna build my channel, and then I go halfway through a video. What the fuck am I doing? Yeah, you're a grown man. So you know it's only me mentality from the mean. I put a thing down. I'm excited to get like would you even tell your kids now to to to get a trade? Why don't you just be a YouTuber?
SPEAKER_00Just be save a hassle, stand on a cold phone. Just go and get the phone because it's probably making I thought well, I don't know what people are making on YouTube. I big money like loose, or a f there's one. Kid at in particular I heard. He does YouTube channels in Irish, he speaks the Irish language, playing the PlayStation, and he makes like forty grand of like well he makes like forty or fifty grand a year. He's only 11 or 12. What really?
SPEAKER_01Why would you still be in Willie in that or will he would that be put into an account? I don't know what way. You got birth money on Christmas money in your ma and daddy. It's in the crowd.
SPEAKER_00I put it in the crowd. Look at it when you're in communion. Come on your money on the ball and brought it. I'll get you got it. The money's in the crowd.
SPEAKER_01You put in the cash compessors. You put the camera in the cash compassage.
SPEAKER_00The bad game for 40 quid. Bring it the cash and burger quickly and quad your own. You put the later.
SPEAKER_01My little fellow said the other day it was Christmas money. Is it me is me bad once you guys like that on holding for you? Because he loses everything. You'd rather lose it than let it lose money, you know. You'll get the bag like goes on my bag.
Fantasy Matchups And What Wins Fights
SPEAKER_00That's generational trauma. Yeah, take on the TV, I'll do this, you know. I'm fucking keeping this. I'd rather lose it than you spend it. Rather it. Oh fuck for you. That was a classic from the from from like back in the day when we were kids. I'm at give you your money, I'll make it. And then I've got and go, uh mate, I'm going bowling with lads. Or I'm going to a cinema with lads. Can I get money from my same? Like, your same is in the crowd again. Never seen it. Never ever seen it. No, my my young fellow's a big a big like we go to another good thing is like this is Dan Off as well. But see, whenever like we were kids, my man dad were in the pub, I would always go in and be like, oh Danny's like, and then you would always come out with loads of money. All the other fellows, all the outdoors would give you money. Okay, here you go, there's two pounders a pound. You were delighted, right? But my young fella, if I bring my young fellow aboard and my dad, he's sitting on the paint and he comes out with five hours and teners and fucking 15, 20 quid a time, like and I go, That's that's their like bring I love it because it brings back good memories when you always have money. A lot of people don't do it no more, loads of people don't do it.
SPEAKER_01Do you not know? But do you think you've seen this about it? People don't even carry cash anymore. If you bring your kid Oh, yeah, of course. People don't even carry the car.
SPEAKER_00Kids will also go to the pub with a car. I'm gonna buy I'm gonna buy my son a car machine for next Christmas. There you go, there's really present for you.
SPEAKER_01So so if you brought your kid in the pub now, what would people say? Because I don't I don't drink enough. So what what would the kid what would you say if you brought your kid in the pub?
SPEAKER_00Well, I bring my kid in the like the local pub up around with my dad's out having a paint because my kid every day always I want to go and see him, like every day. I want to go and see that. So I pick him up from school and I'll bring him up. And sometimes if my dad's in the bar, I'll go all take a spend there and see him. Plus my ma works in the bar in the local pub, so I bring him down and my mum will give him a wee coke, we fanta, and he'd sit and have a fanta. And then oh yeah, lads, we fucking come here over here, there's there's a pound, there's two pounds. But like when I was a kid, it was this exact same treatment, but that's only because it's at the local wee pub and everybody knows me, and everybody knows him and all. And they're like, Are you gonna do boxing like your daddy on? When I was a kid, I was like, There's an ex world champion.
SPEAKER_01So my kids miss out on it because I don't drink. My kids don't go in a pub. See, you're being a selfish con. Yeah, you need to start drinking. So my bird says like the happy times for my child are when was everyone's having a baby. So I my I feel like my kids miss out on that. Do you know what I mean? Because I don't understand it. And if I was to just bring them in a pub, I wouldn't even know what to do or where to sit or what to ask for, I wouldn't even know. No, telegraph. Oh, he's the cop, he's busy, yeah. He's not really busy. Kicks on me for being too suspicious, but I don't know what to do. Yeah, so they I think they miss out on it.
Climbing Levels The Hard Way
SPEAKER_00I don't know what I mean. Yeah, no, you only think that, but it's it's more beneficial that they're not on a public. They're not gonna be at least a fucking let well let's hope they won't end up fucking boosebags, but you might go the opposite way, mightn't he?
SPEAKER_01Fuck him, fuck him.
SPEAKER_00We missed out on all this. He totaled my ass. We missed out on all this our whole day. We never had this, that's gonna be their trap.
SPEAKER_01Do you know if you get to a certain age and they taste it and you go fucking hell? That's what happens, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00People go like fucking hell, is this what it is? And they just go off rails. People do it, yeah. They just get a sense of like I missed out and all this.
SPEAKER_01We all know that kid's on me who had everything didn't have to, but he's he's fucking strung out. Yeah, just strung out, bro.
SPEAKER_00That's that's fucking that happens at all times.
SPEAKER_01He was the spoil kid, he he was the kid who was going on holdi every year after the six weeks' holdies.
SPEAKER_00Next thing he saw strung out. But uh no hair, fuck they were good, is like um if you get the boat tonight, has it? The boat the ferry, yeah. Ferry back, what's that to eight hours? Eight, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You get do you stay in a cabin or just hang around the boat just like probably maybe I don't know, but uh because I'm out of camp, you can sit by the um I think you can you upgrade and you can just it is just free. Oh reminiscent.
SPEAKER_00Oh there was a great day.
SPEAKER_01If I win a world title, will they have a baby? No, I mean taking from the man who he loves a baby. Start taking the kids to the pub in a little. Yeah, you've done it, I've clocked it, fuck it, let's just terrible attitude that in it if you wish to do that. But people do that's only I know loads of people say I just had to drink and I like um thirty old and the four.
SPEAKER_00I know uh one of those auto so he started drinking every story as well, never ever touched the drink until he was. It's mad, isn't it? It's mad. Like you're you're well past the stage of wanting to do it. Yeah, yeah. Well I started Nyleck. Yeah. And Nyleck, he can he control it, he just goes to the bar and has a few paints, but he would drink two days a week. Like he would go to a bar and match off football on a Saturday quarantine, like, and then go again, say on a Wednesday match of football, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I used to say with a lad, and he said the best thing I can do, I don't want to name case I doesn't want to be, but he said the best thing I I can think of doing is sitting at the edge of the bar with a paper, watching the match, having a pint. Yeah, but he was a professional fighter, he was living what everyone else would see sitting by the bar wanted to do, and he just wants to do what they want to do. It's crazy, mate. Just think about every day getting a nine to five and debonum as he used to say crazy, man.
SPEAKER_00Look at that you're a professional fighter, but it's challenging sometimes, they got boxing. It's challenging where it's like so like chaotic, you just go like it's unsure as well. Like it'd be just fucking easier than going to an end to five and just come home and you've known nothing else to think about. Yeah. Once you clock off at five, you're finished, and you've got your wages an easy life, but you think it we're just you only think that sometimes when it's a bit challenging and shit don't go your way, like you're injured and you can't get a fight, you're like, What the fuck am I chasing this for? Like we've all been in a position like where you're trying to get a big fate or you're trying to chase a fight, and you're just like, What's the point? Sometimes if like I've questioned myself sometimes like, what am I doing here? It's cost me money. Yeah, it's not everything. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You hold on that way, better like something like it will come.
Matchmaking Risks And Promoter Incentives
SPEAKER_01But most fighters it's gonna cost them money to be a boxer for the first few years. Most, yeah, most of them. If you're not like a star, stand out to be an international fighter. Do you reckon the international fighters even get the because if that they should know? Because anyone can do it.
unknownNah.
SPEAKER_01Do you know what I mean? Because ticket sellers they get the gig now, don't they? Rather than the standouts. If you was on the Olympic team, you didn't go to the Olympics, you're sort of in a terrible position, aren't you? Yeah. If because you gave all your life, you didn't go out, you didn't make mates, you didn't socialise, so therefore you're not a big ticket seller. But there's a kid who's gonna turn pro. Yeah. He's been in it, he's been out every weekend for the last five years.
SPEAKER_00He's got loads of mates as they'll take away collar. People come and throw collars, like Fabio Wardley, yeah. So later stadium, yeah, just from being a wet collar fitter. Yeah. And he's worried something, eh?
SPEAKER_01It's mad, isn't it? That's crazy. The dedicated kids don't get this respect. Even even when you go on like no the kids now, they haven't got no respect. When I was a kid, the fellow got fucking felony, you're going on showing one of my honour books. What are you talking about? We've lost them. We've lost them. But the respect, the respect is not there as well as it for the kids. We've never had the um the lessons growing up. You went in the amateur gym, you get a smack, wouldn't you?
