Cold Opens: Fights And Monte Carlo Chaos
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the Public Nations podcast. Right here in Killing Studios, where you can get all your content. Before Christmas, I was like, because I just fought right before Christmas, and then the rest of Christmas was like, oh I'm free, I can do what now. Like by by the time Christmas came around, I was like, fuck right, here we go. Back I need I need to get some structure back in my life. But I got there. I just had to open that gym, but I'm still like I still have to go back to camping all day and get all that checked on.
SPEAKER_02But you've been flying you've been flying like the last even the verbosa fight, like you got mugged early. But you've been fucking doing great. It was good that fight in Monaco. Was Michael was that? That was that was great. Great fight. Yeah. It's even cool. Like, see watching, being a boxing fan, I like watching them. I always love to see them in Monticorlo, like the face looks, it's just cool.
SPEAKER_01It's unbelievable. Fucking such a good setup. That uh people like Shane was actually asking me last week. He's like, I have this wee routine that I have when you fight, I like to get you on after your fight and ask about like, did you get arrested? And I was like, no, I didn't get arrested. I got arrested in New York and I got arrested in Hull. I was like, no, that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02Two of the boy glamorous places, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I was like, no, I didn't get arrested in Monte Carlo. And I was like, but three of my friends did. He's like, what did they do? And I was like, they actually didn't do anything. And like when I said that, I genuinely meant it. Yeah. And he's like, What's their names? He's like, Victor, Chucky, and PG.
SPEAKER_00And he just busted out laughing. He was like, mate, there's no way those three names don't nothing.
SPEAKER_02They just they do something like just classic characters.
SPEAKER_01And in Monte Carlo, you're not allowed to drink in the street at all. See, I uh so um that was I was one of the I was by the arrests.
SPEAKER_02No, I went to I've been to like my folks used to have a wee flat and knees, so then they then they bend it off, and our kids are like, never gonna get there anymore, you selfish bastard. I'm like, all right, sorry about that. But um so that then we used to go there for uh like a a bit, and then obviously you go to Monaco on the train. I go like friggin' onslo from keeping up appearances and the vest and the show, like sweating and all, eating my baguette down by the yachts and then I went down and speaking France German, you know, Bonjourman. Yeah, it could be I like if it wasn't tanned, it could be from anywhere, like from Turkey to friggin' Belarus. But uh I was there and just I I felt so out of place, and then I went over to see an Arsenal match against Monaco in the Champions League, and me and a mate went over and we were like, right, we'll get the train over and we'll just get on like from about midday, so we were getting there buzzing. And then we got off, and we're like, ah nah, there's no drinking. And I was like, What? And they're like, Yeah, Chelsea were here last month and fucking you guys.
SPEAKER_01They have the worst reputation on football. And I fucking scrum.
SPEAKER_02Then there was this we this fella had a sports bar down there down in the marina, and he was like, come on in, drinking and then see whenever the police come, just say oops, didn't know. So we were I was fucking buying rounds and rounds. There was like about seven bottles of wine on the table.
SPEAKER_01I was gonna say fucking had ideas of like drinking on the rip and then got to Monaco, and it was like 40 quilts for a bottle of beer, I'm like, one beer?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but it was it was wild, and then like when we enter the stadium, obviously like Monaco with no goes. So we went there and then we were like show the tickets and I was like just go on wherever you get. So we ended up just like near front row spirit. Yeah, you know, and then I think they didn't I don't think they won. Like I think it was are they even doing well to marry Monaco?
SPEAKER_01They're all right. Like obviously for you, like they had Falcon on not too long ago when they were they were bringing the end. Like I think City bought a few players off them.
SPEAKER_02I have Sullivan I think uh because they're in the they're in the last 32 or 16 of the Champions League work because they're against I think.
SPEAKER_01I still don't know what's going on with people, but like I can't keep up with it. No, I like from the whole structure change that I'm just like I'm lost. I don't understand that. I know like the top four or something going to like I don't know, stay like different like I I honestly can't no.
SPEAKER_02I because it means it's good, like obviously Arsenal are doing great, but then it comes like that doesn't matter. Yeah. In your last 16, because then like when Liverpool they finished

SPEAKER_02maybe was top or something last year and then they got PSG. So it's and then PSG are playing Monaco actually and tonight. And it was the PSG beat Monaco 3-2 in Monaco, so it's tight enough. So I'd love to see Monaco do them.
SPEAKER_01Like just uh get rid of them. Champions A is different for them, okay.
SPEAKER_02That's the thing, obviously Arsenal are notorious bottle jobs, like so I'm shitting myself. No, I see what's not Spurs game.
SPEAKER_01I know, I I'm I'm a city man, you see, so I'm like I'm once Spurs scored, I was like optimistic and I was like, Spurs can do this, you know. And then half time once Arsenal scored so so soon in the first half, I was like, ah big shout out to that prize guy. Changing people's lives daily with massive prizes at stake. Like it'll be in the league up and then and then but then we're looking back at the early season, you're going City were there to be beaten and Arsenal were just not trying. And it's like see now, that's where you're gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_01This has to be the like the worst season. Like in terms of like form for every team, no one's been good, no one's been consistently like really fucking good.
SPEAKER_02Because that's it, like you know Arsenal are gonna drop points and then City would be the sort that they go and beat Newcastle, beat Liverpool, and then they'll play someone like Spurs and then beat or Brentford, beat you know, someone and you just go, you can't predict it like so. But it'll come down to that. It'll come down to that. What happens?
SPEAKER_01Does Artara get does he take the does it if it if let's say it's a an unsuccessful season for Arsenal, what happens?
SPEAKER_02Does Artara stay or do you know I think it's mental to sack him if we finish second? You know what I mean? Like if finish second, get all so far and all the cops like no, not good enough. I think just keep him and you just had the whole patty.

SPEAKER_02So it's like But again, I think the biggest problem, I I hate Arsenal fans because they're fucking nightmare. They're all mental and they all respect and they're to see Arsenal fan TV, like I'm looking at going, you guys are are wild.
SPEAKER_01You never realise how much other people hate Arsenal supporters until Arsenal are doing well. Like it's only been the last two years. I always remember Arsenal obviously like early 2000s, unbelievable, and it was always just them and Nate supporters arguing amongst each other 'cause that's all it really was.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um but because they've been off the boil for so long, I haven't really heard much of it from them. The last couple of years have just been chirping up. But like I don't hate them, but everyone else does. Everyone the amount of people who say to me, I hope City win the league. I can't stand Arsenal supporters. I'm like, I don't even I don't even what fucking hopefully Arsenal supporters.
SPEAKER_02But it's that bloody Arsenal fan TV. Even for years I'm watching going, you guys are making me depressed. Like I'm depressed enough, and you're like, Yeah, it's wild. But you know, I'm I'm just I don't want to say it. And everyone's like, Oh, you think they'll do it? I'm like, no, because they're Arsenal, like you just you never know until I know like and then they go and beat the stuff Real Madrid, haven't beat PSG, you're like, oh, and then they go and lose, and you're like, ah class, that's that's the way it goes.
SPEAKER_01It's that's yeah, that's the beauty of the football, isn't it? Is that your f football be your favourite sport? Yeah, you end up the paddle talk with other lads, you know.
SPEAKER_02See, no, I go I go the opposite of that, because then they're all into it. I'm like, that's a fad, fuck that. Yeah, like I'll get into you know I'll I'll give it a go. But like when it comes to people's lives, no, you lose.
SPEAKER_01People are fucking on people are obsessed. Like Arn Butler is he's on the bottom. He's a problem.
SPEAKER_02You know, he he he has a problem. Like he might say to him, like, he do you know, asking him about work stuff or whatever, and he'd be like, Oh no, I'm playing paddle today. And he's like, Oh yeah, I paid paddle for 72 hours last week. I'm like, you're uh That's insane. There's nothing else to do.
SPEAKER_00You learn fucking two languages changes time next year.
SPEAKER_02I know, but no one playing too much paddle. But I I just don't get it, you know. But then I I'm like that. I I think it's just stubbornness in me. I'll not follow track something and then I'll like down the line I'll do it and be like, oh it's good when it actually is a thing. Like Game of Thrones, I'm like fucking what's like that is good. That is good.
SPEAKER_01Oh fuck the last time, because the last time I seen you you were doing that big race till Darry I'm so so yeah, I was that was fun. Like I was the arsenal trap.

Like I say, when you're at the at the like the the offices where then you see the people who use the services now, you're like, ah right, okay, that's fair enough. Apart from one place I was there, and like you're going in and I ain't getting going being like, around going at lunch here. And they got the place like, I've got some jammy dodgers and a cup of tea. I decided I'm like, you go a rap or something. I'm not gonna go from friggin' They're going to your grandmother's fucking.
SPEAKER_00It was why they sat down and looking around going 1988, the only biscuits are shop. Burbagami dodged that in like oh song steal.
SPEAKER_02And I remember sitting there going, like, you have to get me something because they were like, we're gonna do like 20 minutes here and then we'll go back on the road. I'm like, but the road's from friggin' Aniskale and the dairy, like I couldn't need to need something. So I remember sitting there, and one of the guys was just chatting away to me, and you know, when you're trying your best to be all but in your head, you're like, mate, can you just give me a game? You just ask for please God. Um but yeah, it was grim. So I'll not be doing that again. Not that I think I've done it, been there done.
SPEAKER_01It sounds grim. It's one of them things. I just like you're in your head for too long, it's too long of a journey, and you're just it's just you and your own thoughts. I would just go, fuck this. I'd just hope for be hoping for a big Lloyd.
SPEAKER_02There's a couple of times on it. I said, I haven't gone corner here. The worst was in the middle of nowhere, like up on up in this mountain, and I just took a corner too quick and get it off in the ditch. Nothing else, just make life. And the guy was cycling with me. He's like, What happened there? I was like, Oh, are they looking around, you know, like diving their own?
SPEAKER_00The most weird thing ever fucking crashed a car for a pop. I know I can't hold my old rack.
SPEAKER_02I look fucked if I just come on in grim. It was grim.

SPEAKER_02But like, see the first day I went, like the morning, I woke up at like five in the morning, and uh I was just like, I've never felt anxiety like it. I was like, why I I the amount of times, why am I why am I doing this? Like, why am I doing this? And then once you get off, it's it's a bit of crack, like you hit the iceberg and you're like, I was one bit down, and then I was fine when we eventually got to the first stop like for the night and put it down. I was I'd never I don't want to never ever go to put it down again. Like it must be in the middle of a mountain because it was all hills up and then all hills out of it. But that next morning after that, and you know what it's like, the second day was awful, and then my horse was all swollen. And like, see, getting back in the seat, like, oh my god. Oh, that's the worst part, and then just going that whole second day. Like I I probably cried for about half an hour, don't it? Big Devil.

SPEAKER_02That's what it was like. And then the fellows like you are right back and I'm like cruising on crap. But it was oh man, it was made it was cra it was just grim. And then like after that, when I was like, right, if only I'm basically on the last day, I was like, won't go home now. So I have to, and then the whole thing through, I'm like, oh fuck, I have two of Aaron Butler's panel shows to do tonight. So it's like, I'm not even gonna get the rest. So but yeah, this last day was alright, because you knew you were kind of yeah, you're on the home straight almost like and then uh but yeah, it was it was a good thing to have done, but uh during it I hate it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, it's one of those things where I and I when I do things that are difficult at the time, I could be anywhere else in the world, but but where I'm at currently I'm just like oh trying to get me like trying to get over this and it's just horrible. Even like usually happens to me when I'm cutting weight and I'm making weight, and I always go it's the worst weight cut I've ever had. Every fight I have I always say to myself, I'm like, You're so dry, yeah, you're completely exhausted, you're just fucking trying to swather, and you're like three kilos overstall, and you're like, oh and you're completely deflated, and you're just like it's the worst, and then you go in the bed and you're just lamb, boom, dry. Every time I tell myself, this is the worst ever. But then whenever I go and eat and fight that, it was easy. Easy, yeah. That was easy every time.
SPEAKER_02But no, that's it. See, I always think about it whenever you're coming into like a fight and have them make weight. Like you m you must in your head be like you should be on like you think you're on weight, so it must be absolutely gotten when you can only go.
SPEAKER_01See, when you can honestly like do a weight cut and you think you've lost so much weight, like through experiencing through doing it so many times, I almost know how much I've lost during a season at that at a certain period of the of the fight week. So I would know like say day one I'll do like a kilo and a half roughly of a water weight where I'll drop off, and then the day two would be like two kilos or day three would be like around a kilo because it's like an easy session, and then the day before I was trying to do a two kilo session the night before. Yeah. See if I don't lose see if I I leave myself with two kilos to cut and I only lost like a kilo and a half or a kilo point three, say, and you're bone dry and you don't think there's any m like much more in there, you're just like see at that stage you're like you just cry. That's actually on the back. Yeah.

Paddle Mania, Stubborn Trends, And Charity Ride
SPEAKER_02eyes, but no, it was I was like Because the worst is when you feel like you've been on it for like five hours, and you go, How long is it to go? And you want them to go hours about another hour, and he's like, Four hours, and you go, Oh Class, class because you're not there and I got a pick.
SPEAKER_01I've probably only threw it once since then. Yeah, it's a big phase, everyone got a pick.
SPEAKER_02Well that was the thing, and uh afterwards, like the charity were like, you know, listen, we'll probably let you hold on to the bike. Oh cheers. So I thought to myself, right, the gym I go to is about a mile from the house. So I say this would be great, routine, cycle the gym, have a worker go back, gets the cardio, I'll be fucking the weight'll be off me in no time. And then like the day after finished, I get tagged in the Instagram post and the bike shop that gave it to us, has it up for sale and they're saying off. Then they'll be fine, let me keep the helmet.
SPEAKER_00So just walk about big people.
SPEAKER_02And the thing is, it doesn't fit my head right now. I got big non-big. I'm ordered in not gonna make it because my head is too big.
SPEAKER_00Like they can't sell it.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, I'll have the lovely bike. So somebody's got the bike and they're out, they're out doing it. I'm just doing this go pick up with the helmet on. You know what? That's actually a good idea because we're doing a charity gig for them, which is much better. So we did a gig that we're actually meant to have last year, a couple of nights in the Mac, and we're doing that again this year in May. So and I'm kinda hosting them, and then we're doing one up in Derry and the Millennium Forum. So I might come out with a help.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so funny.
SPEAKER_02I didn't see because like last year I was it, like we're doing this is the first thing I'd ever done for the charity. So now like I'm an ambassador for it and I'm like giving them props and all. Last year that I was doing it, and I was just doing stand-up and someone fell heckled me from the crowd. I said, What are they saying? He goes, I'm not taking anything you say seriously. I'm like, Why would like why would you?
SPEAKER_00This is a comedy show, mate. Yeah, it's like all right.
SPEAKER_02Then this guy's there because expecting some mental health advice. I'm like, this is no harm, do you? It's not the place. Oh but they're they're a while. Like, but yeah, I'm glad I don't have to cycle, but I think there probably will be something.
SPEAKER_01But they're doing like the comedy scene artists doing everything, like the we shows on the was it is it guess what was Shane doing last week? Guess who uh I don't know if you did the chase before they do all these read different things, which are good or so much, like there's so much more now going on in that.
SPEAKER_02Do you know what those things are like for us? I think those kind of different nights are just fun because you don't have to worry about all the lads and like we did one the bake off with him. I was heard about it, he absolutely shafted me. They're like he's uh he's a rat. He went in the movie bottle bottle of gin, and we were like, Is it a gin overall? I was he filled it with lemonade.
SPEAKER_01He uh he didn't drink.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, and I was going out frickin' scanning the I hadn't drank in in ages, and I was canning the tens and neck the bottle of buck fast, and I was a disgrace. Ended up in the ergol afterwards. I mean it could have been like apparently I was given all sorts of chance and all people like that's you cancelled anyone films that I'm like, yeah, fucking and then the next thing I'm I'm home poking in the sink with no clothes on. Yeah, I was I was absolutely fucking stitched up by him, like totally, but yeah, but it was that was good fun. I don't think I've drank properly since that like.
SPEAKER_01It's probably enough to put you off because you're probably just drank enough and have fun.
SPEAKER_02Cause that's the thing, right? Because I'm I'm taking the injections to help me lose weight, and it it fucking it uh slows your digestion and all. So all that's happening, I'm drinking like I normally do. Major eye, so it it goes in and it I'm drinking like I'd normally drink, thinking it's gonna have a normal effect on me. I just store there and then all of a sudden do shit fuck. Absolutely blast slavery at people, okay. And it's like if anyone took a video of you, I'm like, yeah, probably being all sorts of bothering, you know.
SPEAKER_01That's the name of the game, isn't it most people see whenever you become your like it's my like not like the working class people lap out up. Like when Jack Grealish from Off the Rails, he was an ocean beach. Oh, I had seen all the comments, just all these working class people have a drink, I don't do this, that I'm doing that. And I was like, fair enough.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I sort of think like people forget like that people like Jack Grealish are just fellas. Like he probably obviously unbelievable skill and everything, great great talent, but then he's probably just like uh one of the lads as well. And like when he's and one of the lads that's got no limit to what he can then do. So when he's off the rails, it's a different item.
SPEAKER_01So like when I was starting off, me and my mates used to go on these holidays and fucking video everything and just torture people and slag people and have a laugh. And there was a few times where people were like, yo, take this down, you prick my daughter fucking really looks up to you as a doctor and I'm like, don't follow me. You're just a random guy? Just an random guy who's good at boxing. Sorry. But that's it. And that's all really it is at the end of the day. People look too much into like professionalism and sportsmanship, but we're no one's taught that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01We're not actually we we we had a wee bit of like a wee bit of media um like media workshops and stuff down in Dublin on the IS team, but anyone else who wasn't on that, like who went there, and weeks who went to the come off games who didn't do none of that. We'd never know what what that looks like or how you behave in front of the media or how you have to s that has to be self-taught. If you're from fucking turf lodge, like that's that's it to me, it's alien to me.
SPEAKER_02But then that's that's other people sort of going to you, oh you this is what we you should be. And you're like, but at the end of the day, it's not what I am. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01And I think to suit you, you're to suit other people.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think people like ultimately like they support the real people, you know, they can relate to it and love to say it, you know. 100%. I sort of look at Mick whenever he at the Olympics and he's flipping everyone off. I think everyone's like, well, let's hit him. Yeah, that made him and it's and I think like when you like even like Tyson Fury, people are like, he's a freaking wing. Yeah, he's been anything.
SPEAKER_01Oh more people can relate to it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And then he went from like the start where everyone sort of hated him when he started out, and then they thought he was just this madman. And then they're like, he is it, and then they're back to going, he's mental, but he's classic. But and then his dial, like I that's the one I'm looking forward to. I want to see him and Carl Frotch. Seems like because he like I had him on here and he was talking about that whole experience with John Fury, and he was like, I proper shitting myself. Like, yeah, but he's like a handle uh like it looked like I handled it well from the outside, but the inside I was like fuck.
SPEAKER_02And then you sort of see with that, you're looking at it going like it may it just makes John Fury look like a dick.
SPEAKER_01So he's standing over him and all. He's just paused about this place, and people are letting him shoot him down, but he's storming away from Carlfrack, yeah, upstairs, and he's shooting over the bottom down at Carlfrack so he was down with him. Yeah, and then he walks away shooting the whole way up. I'm fucking John Fury, you know, and then he's shooting down.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He's just a mental bastard.
SPEAKER_02But I you know, you love to see it. Because you always say, Oh, he's done this, and you're like, I gotta go look at that and I go, Surely, uh Tyson Fury's like, Oh, fuck me, dad, not again.
SPEAKER_01Would you give him a head arrest? Like he was shut up. It seems like Tyson Fury just never comments on it. Yeah, it's like they were saying when you bring your dad like if people bring their dad and they just embarrass him. Yeah. Like when you're a kid, like when you only you're having your first pen, you're eighteen. Yeah. And you're like, oh first pen, he's getting it. No one's trying to embarrass you, hearing it. And you're like, shut up, done.

Um like neither like Floyd Mayweather's gonna fight Monty Pacquiao again. But he's gonna fight Tyson first, make Tyson first. So I'm like, what's Money? Maybe there's fighting Tyson first as a warm-up for Monty Pacquiao. Because Monty Pacquiao's been active. Yeah. He fought for World Title like six months ago.
SPEAKER_02No, he'll still be but then again is it is it going to be as an exhibition or is it gonna be a product?
SPEAKER_01But Netflix are covering it like that.

Like I got out with a dog this morning for a walk and I hadn't been able to get him out for a few days because I was away doing support machine in in Europe in Barcelona. I was Barcelona, it was great, and Lisbon the night before. I got home, it was buzzing to get home. I was like, I can't wait to get home, see see the kids, see the wife, see a dog. And then Arsenal were playing Spurs. Like, I'll get in, I'll be all tired, the kids will sit with me, I'll watch football, bingo. I was about two minutes from home, phone rings, where are you? And I just said, Why? Like I said, is everyone alright? She goes, Why? Because the fucking dog shit everywhere, and I said, Oh no. So I was all excited to get home.

Pets, Vets, And Unromantic Real Life
SPEAKER_02No, I'll tell you what, he couldn't he couldn't have painted this up a wall. It was like there was water cut, it was just costing. So then as soon as I'm in, the whole house is stinking. And then two of us, I have the gloves on, picking up all the shit in their bags, and and then we settled down. I was like, Oh, he's not too good, and had to wipe all the bleach the walls and all, stinging. And then just as soon as we get it cleaned, he's like, Well, shut up. I was like, Oh no, so I was my whole day, and I had to take him down to our vets and all, so I thought he'd eaten something, and then they're like, Nah, he's just got a bug, so they inject them and they give him a pill, and they're like, There you go, 600 quid, please. I'm like, oh class, love that. And then we're back to parcel. My tears being extended. And then so getting them out this morning, I was but I was it was like yes, he used to feel miserable. You know, like dogs look at you, like, yeah, just look at you there.

So whenever we finally got him settled after he had the injection, all being to the vets, from my like kitchen door to the front doors, probably set right with this room. So front doors are kitchen doors are ours. Like, right, Vinny, out you go, go for your business. And he just walks out in the hall, water everywhere. So just as I'm about to go to bed, I'm like, oh and just stinking. So then that's a couple of days ago. So today I got him out and he did a proper shit I used to lie to nice for well done, mate. So that was it. Got him out, big, big shit, and then washed him before it came out. So we've got all the shape washed off his tail and all. Just look, so yeah, it must be like it was weak because I'd have a hot water tap out the back to wash him with. So like you see, see when he was in the hot water in his arse and he was loving it.
