Hi, Steph. Hello, Danny. Welcome to the Lethal Library. Welcome back. We are going to be talking about some murderers today. Shocker. Shocker. And it's going to be a long one. So for this one, guys, we are going to make it a two parter, but from everything Danny's told me, it's going to be legit. So I am ready for this. there's two murderers, two motorcycle gangs, two states, four suspects, and girlfriends that don't talk, that keep this case in the spotlight for years. It's already sounding like a soap opera to me. And especially with Creech being in every motorcycle gang, I'm wondering if he knew about any of this. Nationwide! Nationwide. Mr. Nationwide. So yeah, these motorcycle gangs, several sources were used including, specifically the spokesman review and the Idaho Statesman. Good old Idaho Statesman. Thank you for providing info. this one's a lot, so hang on. Let's get into it. Let's get into it. On June 22nd, 1980. Authorities were called when an overturned van was found on a remote road in Post Falls, Idaho. Just the day before, residents of Melnick Road, outside of Post Falls, Idaho, saw a blue and white van drive up a remote logging road. Early June 21st. Very noticeable because it's fairly remote and strangers are eyed. You know that area. You're like, this isn't They're watching. They're like, we ain't never seen you before. Where are you going up that remote road? They know where it goes. After they spotted the van, a little while later they saw three men walking shoulder to shoulder coming down the road. One of the men were carrying a rolled up blue blanket, and it appeared to be wrapped around a rifle. Not very stealthy with the hiding. What's that? Oh, it's just my baby. It's my baby. We're carrying my baby wrapped in a blanket. So, while the tow truck was attempting to load the van, a sheriff's deputy spotted a body down an embankment. The body of Kimberly Palmer, 19, was laying half naked face down on a string and about 30 feet away a sleeping bag was located and it contained the beaten body of 26 year old Scott Courier. Good God. Just like that. So they're like, call the tow truck and they're like, oh, there's a body down there. That's exactly weird. That's exactly what happened. And you're cradling your baby rifle in a blanket? Strange. Okay. Wowie. Previously at 3 a. m. That morning, Donald Paradis was contacted by a sheriff's deputy outside of his home in Spokane, Washington. Two hours later, the house was on fire. Fire Marshal Bob Skaggs stated that the fire at Paradis home was definitely arson. Flammable liquids were used to start the fire on the front and back porches and in a bedroom. And let me just tell you why, why he was there. Somebody was missing a motorcycle. There was a stolen motorcycle and so in the neighborhood and so the police were like, Hey, yo, uh, I see you outside your house at 3 o'clock in the morning, biker, and I was just wondering if you knew about a missing bike. Apparently someone's bike got stolen. It couldn't be a Coinkydink, could it? Hmm. A motorcycle that was reported stolen was found on the back porch. That was on fire. And destroyed from the fire. So that's why I wanted to say the cops were there. They weren't. They weren't just stopping by to have some tea. At three o'clock in the morning. No, they're like, they saw this guy outside and was like, Hey, you know this month. And then randomly two hours later the house is on fire. Blood stains on the walls and a bloody rolled up rug was found by firefighters after it was The fire was like, oh, y'all got to learn you can not simply light your house on fire and all of the evidence in your crimes is poof done. You and Oliver, we've learned, we've learned that several times, right? We've got it with Roe, Miss Roe. We've got it with Abdullah, who left a gas can there. Like you guys really suck at these fires in the first place. Yeah, it totally looks like it doesn't do what you think it's going to do. Like this isn't the movies, folks. No. And magically starts in like five different places. Don't even know how that happens. At the same time, wow. So later on, on June 22nd, just outside of Spokane, Washington. So this is later on. It's a very tight timeline, right? So, Later on, on June 22nd, just outside of Spokane, Washington, five people were arrested at an abandoned gas station where a cache of weapons were found. The cache was wrapped in plastic about 25 feet from the gas station in an open field. Why? You guys are really not even trying, so. It included five rifles. A sawed off shotgun, ammunition, and high grade plastic explosives? This is not good. What are y'all doing? Donald Paradis, 34, is arrested on charge of first degree murder. They were looking for these guys. They were looking for them. And clearly they were out just the mischief. They weren't laying low, we'll say that. No. And, I will say this about this gas station in my research. It was an abandoned gas station where bikers just hung out like this is our clubhouse now kind of I do think that it was Just like a place where they hung out Other people that were arrested were Roseanne Moline 32 Charles Chucker Amaker 33 and two other men were arrested and held as material witnesses. So these guys are in motorcycle gangs and so Charles Chucker is his motorcycle, his gang name, his little nickname. It's his nickname. An internal memo of from authorities at the time stated they were worried about a gang war that may be headed from motorcycle clubs from, to Spokane from California. And I'm going to tell, this is, in the very beginning of this case, it was all about motorcycle clubs and gangs and fighting, and this had nothing to do with it. I'm, I'm going to tell you right now. I was like, there were, newspapers were putting fear
DaniIn people that there was going to be some great motorcycle vigilante justice. Nobody gave a shit. They didn't give a shit. These guys just happened to be in motorcycle clubs. Thomas Chief Gibson, 29, and his companion Cindy Samara, 26, were arrested in Northern California the same day after a routine traffic stop. Gibson is the president of the Vagos Motorcycle Club. This is impressive that at this time in the 80s. They were able, I mean, it's almost like a sting operation where they're arresting multiple people in multiple states at the same time. I mean, us knowing how the communication goes. It's kind of crazy that they were able to pull this off. I agree. I also think it was just a lot of luck. Probably. I'm just saying, if you're on the run from the cops and you get pulled over, for a, a standard violation, a traffic violation, you're an idiot. You're being a dipshit. You're just dumb. Ten and two. Be careful. Speed limit, maybe a few over. Going with the flow of traffic, not being a psycho. Come on, guys. Authorities are trying to locate another man, Lawrence Igor Evans, 25. He is a prospect for the Gypsy Jokers Motorcycle Club. Gypsy Jokers, what a catchy name. Paradis is nicknamed Red Rider and is a member, also, of the Gypsy Joker Motorcycle Club. Cynthia Samara is held in contempt of court for refusing to answer questions about the double homicides and is sent back to jail. She's standing ten toes down. She said, I don't know nothing about, I don't know shit about fuck. No, nothing about nothing. Samara's being held as a material witness along with two other witnesses, Charles Amaker, 33, and Rosanna Moline, 27. Amaker and Moline are later charged with first degree murder. I didn't even know you could hold people. As material witnesses. I didn't know either, but I mean, the contempt, I'm, I'm betting some drama played out in the courthouse where the judge was like, well, you're not cooperating if you do this. Contempt. I know. Or maybe some fuckery was happening. Fuckery has happened and will continue to happen. Meanwhile, it's revealed Samara is four months pregnant with Gibson's child. So, she's like, my man. Is that your man? That's my man. I'm gonna stick by him. In late July, Gibson has begun a hunger strike to protest mental and physical harassment. He is down about 10 pounds. But the jail commander, Donald R. Manning, states Gibson has made several purchases of snack items from the commissary. It's a light hunger strike. Okay, hunger strike light. You can have a snack here and there. He's 10 pounds down He's clearly I just am amazed that I mean, he's he's in jail for first degree murder And I would just have so many other things going on. He hasn't even been in there that long. It's not like he's Had some, years of injustice or something. Being in the hole or whatever. He's been there a month. And this is a biker gang, bro. Like toughen up. What conditions are we talking about? Like, oh, well, in a letter to the Spokane Chronicle. Gibson complained about unsanitary conditions in the jail and that his hunger strike was initiated because of the unfair treatment of Cindy Samara who is now five months pregnant with his child. He's writing for his girl. Wow, what a love story. Gibson states, I will not eat until I can see Cindy. This is a quote. I don't feel that this is an unreasonable request. I am very worried about her. Sir, it is an unreasonable request. You are in jail for murder and she is being held as a material witness. They're not going to let you have some private visit where you guys can get on the same page. Or do something to exonerate her, take the blame. Like, get it done. You want her out? Get her out. You think we're gonna have a family time? I'd like to have a meal with my, with my girl. She's pregnant. I'm really worried about her. It's just a ridiculous request. this is a freaking soap opera. Like, I am, I need to meet with my girl. What? I can't see my girlfriend that's pregnant in here? What the hell is that about? Unreasonable! Delusional is what it is. You mean I can't even see my friends? I wanted my friends to come over. You can't come hang out myself? I asked my mom. Have some hooch? Mom! Mom, they won't even let my friends come over to my cell. The place sucks! I wrote the newspaper about this. I did. I'm gonna make shit happen. This is very Karen behavior. The Spokane prosecution team is attempting to try Rosanna Moline first. First, they want her testimony to use in the later trials of the other charged in the murder. When Moline was first arrested, she was only held as a material witness. Her attorneys are attempting to keep out her statements that she made to authorities because she may not have been told of her rights before making incriminating statements about herself and other defendants. But after review, Superior Court Judge Richard P. Guy ruled that her statements are admissible in her trial. So now they're just like, you know what, you're not going to work with us. Everything you said that incriminated yourself. You're getting convicted of murder too. Let's go. You said way too much. But her trial has been delayed due to all these arguments in court. So what the prosecution wanted was for her to have her trial first so that all of the evidence presented could go In the trial for the other guys and then they it turned into a shit show. It turned into a shit show Okay, Malia's trial will begin after Gibson, Paradis and a Mocker's trial I'm gonna say that wrong this whole just I'm gonna say a Mocker, a Mocker, all of it. We're trying What was his nickname? Is that, that's not Igor, is it? Igor? No. Chukar. Chukar, let's just go with Chukar. It's Chukar. Chukar is Amakar. Note that. So her statements will not be used in their trial due to possibly jeopardizing her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself. Before her own trial. They're like, this is very dicey. This is just such a mockery. This is just such a mockery of, It was like clowns, just clowns. Just trying to get this done. Well, and you've got to, you have to follow things by the book. As law enforcement detectives. Or you create these problems. And you make it, what could be an easy case, very hard. and can we also just talk about, It's only fucking September and the murders happened in late June. We're already going to trial? This is wild. Yeah! Round em up boys! I'm telling you. I gotta get home for dinner! The cocaine had them moving very fast. Can you believe it? They were murdered on June 21st and the trial is On September 2nd.
StephanieYou can barely get like a dentist appointment within three months. Are you fucking kidding me? Yeah, they're like, no, we're going first degree murder trial.
DaniYeah,
Stephanielet's go
Daniand less than three months Wowie, so on September 2nd the trial for Chucker, Paradis, and Gibson begins. They are charged with first degree murder of Scott Currier. Notice who's missing? Kimberly Palmer.
StephanieExactly, like what's happening with that? Not enough evidence, or?
DaniThe three defendants laugh and joke about During the beginning of their trial, they have about 10 friends, there with them and Gibson's dressed in a three piece suit and jokingly asked one of his friends, if he'd like to buy some insurance, like they're not taking this serious.
StephanieNo, this is not like your regular clubhouse meeting boys. This is not one of your playdates with your bicycle gang. What the hell?
DaniAnd Gibson also complained to reporters about bad jail conditions, and that it violated his rights.
StephanieYou're in a biker gang and you're like, Some people don't wash their hands around here. Did you know that? Like the, oh, this is just like
Daniwild. It's just these guys. Jury selection begins and quickly ends. 90 percent of the prospective jurors stated that they have heard of the case from the news. The news
Stephaniehas to news. I mean, there's some things that sometimes they could be But they, they have to report the news
Daniand
Stephaniepeople are gonna
Danihear it. So before the trial even gets underway, there's a motion to move the trial to King County, Washington. The Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney L. C. Kinney is not happy about the move, and files an appeal to overturn the change in venue. Why are we fighting this? Because this is something that gets people appeals. It's gonna be the appeal!
StephanieJust move it. Just do it. Just move it. We're just covering our ass here and taking away. The ability to appeal
Danilet it happen. but to fight
StephanieMoving it. Yeah, just go with it. You're you're gonna make it your job harder in the future future if you give them a reason to appeal and it's just a juror stated
Daniit. They stated it. It's already on record and it's just a clean conviction when I would rather go to another county and have a clean conviction than try to fight it and then be like, well, everyone was influenced by the news, which they might be. The appeals commissioner, Michael F keys refused to consider the appeal. He stated the appellate, the appellate court did not have to consider Kenny's appeal unless prosecutors showed Judge Thompson erred in the decision and he didn't. It's the right thing to do. He's like, you're delusional. Just stop. Let this go forward. Meanwhile, all of this, all of this shit is happening and Gibson is trying to get married. Of course, because why wouldn't you shove a wedding in the process? He wants to marry his pregnant girlfriend, Moline.
StephanieHe's just, you know,
Danias a gentleman does. Does he love her? Does he want to prevent her from testifying? Maybe both? Maybe one? Maybe both? Who knows? But it was discovered that Gibson has a wife already. Oops! Whoopsie! Gibson! She's alive and well in Grants Pass. This
Stephanieis literally days of our lives. It like sends through the hourglass. So are the days of our lives. Jesus.
DaniGibson's trying to get some shit. Well, he's trying to get some stuff done. Cause you know, you know what?
StephanieGood strategy, really. But you, you have to not be married to get married, so. Little bit of an oversight. Details, details. Appreciate the logic, but we The plan wasn't gonna work, Gibson.
DaniGibson's also, uh, claiming to be the jail spokesman. An appointed representative of the 270 inmates currently being held there. He's like I held
Stephaniea leadership role in my boys club gang motorcycle gang We had a password to get into our meetings. They call me chief. Hello
DaniEl Presidente if you will. Thank you
StephanieThis is a guy that had he had more money or a different. He probably would have went somewhere been a part Politician.
DaniAbsolutely.
StephanieAbsolutely. Gibson, you're going for the gold and I can't knock the effort.
DaniHe has filed complaints not only about unsanitary conditions, but also a lack of recreation time, misuse of maximum security sales, late mail delivery, restrictive visitation allowances, and a lack of rehabilitative programs, and minimal access to desired library materials. Wow. Dude, you're on trial for fucking murder, bro. And you got a pregnant girlfriend you want to marry and you're already married. Don't worry about the library resources right now.
StephanieMy pregnant girlfriend can't live with me in my cell? What the fuck is this?
DaniNor can she read what she needs to read. There's no Redbook, Reader's Digest, nothing. Can you believe this guy? He would have totally been a politician. Yeah. Totally a politician. Captain Donald R. Manning. The Jail Commander, kind of a cool title. Yeah. Responded to Gibson's complaint. He said they're not valid. Quote, these are high security risk people and they are not in a dormitory, a dormitory type setting. This isn't a frat house, bro. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. You know how much
Stephanieyou like your boys club. This is not that.
DaniThis ain't it. US Attorney Jim Gillespie said after receiving Gibson's letter that he requested an investigation into possible civil rights violations.
StephanieSo the guy's like, all right, I'll look at it. Investigate it. I mean, I see no harm in that because, I mean, we know that jails, people do still have rights, you know? So
DaniI,
StephanieI get it. No, they do. I'm
Danijust sorry. I just saw Creed splashing him. He has a right to shave. Give him that razor. I'm sorry. I just. He has
Stephaniea right to have a razor on him at all times. That's his. It's America.
DaniBut, that attorney Jim Gillespie withdrew the investigation request after personally speaking with Gibson and jail officials. He found most of Gibson's complaints to be unfounded. So he went and talked to Gibson
Stephanieand was like, I want to know about it, and Gibson's like, some people aren't washing their hands when they go to the bathroom. I'm making this up. Or, cause I, the unsanitary keeps coming up. I have to shit next to someone else. And so he basically talked to him, and the guy's like, Yeah, that, that is You don't get a sweep, bro. That is jail. You don't get a sweep. That, that is 100 percent part of jail. 100. Get a
Danijob as
Stephaniea janitor. Clean up your streets, bro.
DaniTwo of his issues were addressed by Gillespie. The request to be married, which can no longer happen because he already be married. Hellur. The other was a personal health care issue. Gibson wants to be seen by his own doctor instead of the jail doctor. I don't know why he needed to see a doctor. I, I never did find that out, but he wanted, he said, do not like the jail doctors, want my own. So Gillespie said, he is a liberty under the jail's policy to be seen by a doctor of his own choice whom he must pay. Jail's not paying for it. Gibson did request a doctor, but the doctor refused to come see him. He
Stephaniefinally would. The doctor's like, I don't like that guy. Yeah, I'm gonna pass on this. Uh, no thanks. Anyway. And he's like, for
Daniwhat?
StephanieGuess it's jail docks for you.
DaniMoline gets her trial moved to Seattle as well.
StephanieOkay.
DaniYeah. Let's go. Paradis, and Gibson starts in King County on September 22nd. They move this whole damn trial in like 20 days. And they're ready to go. Yeah. Well, and I want to know, like, what happened? Let's hear about this trial. What did y'all do? Documents indicate the prosecution alleges Scott and Kimberly went to Paradis home in the early morning of June 21st, where an argument occurred. Currier believed someone had taken his gun. That's Scott. then he was beaten. Later that morning at 6. 30am, a blue Volkswagen van with California plates was seen in the area where the two bodies were found. Three men matching the description of Gibson, Paradis, Evans were seen walking out of the area. They were taking their gun on a walk. I remember this. Yeah. Later that morning Gibson, Paradis and Evans were questioned by a post falls policeman and he gave them their names The police questioned the man after they were received a call stating that one of the men had a gun No weapon was found and they were cooperative. So the police let them go They said that was my child. God, I don't know. You never took your kid on a waltz? So, that was very interesting to me because I was wondering how they got there in such quick order. Remember we were talking? We found them and everything, yeah. So, they were, they called them in they had nothing going on because they hadn't found the bodies yet. But that was, it happened very very fast and people were watching suspicious as fuck. You know, you know it. These guys were not from there. Post Falls is tiny and in a very like identifiable vehicle it sounds like as well. That was found just crashed in whoopsie.
StephanieOh, there's some bodies down there. Ah complete coincidence
DaniWell, little chief Gibson has a change of heart regarding the Spokane jail since being moved to the overcrowded King County Jail, he said actually I Didn't know
Stephaniehow good I had
Daniit Quote, all those bad things I said about that Spokane jail. I take him back. This jail is worse. He had some perspective.
StephanieI love this. He's like, honestly five stars. So sorry. I was so rude to you guys. Please take me back.
DaniParadis agreed with Gibson and said he had mold in his stomach. Cell sink and the lack of water facilities in the King County, uh, gel cell quote. Paradis said, quote, they treat you like you're innocent until you're proven guilty. And Spokane, this trial, this gel treats you like you're guilty until proven innocent. Oh, they're, they're in
Stephaniedeep.
DaniThey
Stephanieare, this is so wild to me because this, for, for men in a motorcycle gang, I like say, did you have a silver spoon? Like, this is nothing like, like my papa's mansion. I wanted to go to the West Wing by myself.
DaniWhat is happening? There is mold on my sink. Have you tried cleaning it? Yeah, get it sanitary. Once again, clean up your streets, bro. Where's the maid, mother? Mommy? Please have the maid clean the west wing. Mommy, this is absolutely disgusting. I can't live under these conditions. I mean, men having hygiene, I'm, I'm a little bit proud. I'm like, okay. But you're in a motorcycle gang and you're like. Supposed to be this big bad tough dude. And you know these comments were said like while during court proceedings, like during recesses and stuff, these men were talking to each other and that's how these conversations
Stephaniewere happening. Have you seen how yucky this King County
Daniprison is? It's very gross. It didn't even shine my spoon. Fucking water spots.
StephanieThere's water spots everywhere. There was a little bit of mold. Not mold. You're a grown ass man in a biker gang. Get yourself some vinegar and a scrub brush. Get to work, bud. Like.
DaniThe jury of six men and six women were finally seated. Ruth Jones testified that on June 21st, 1980 she saw those three men walking along that road near the site where the bodies were found. Like they got, they have so many people from town that come and testify. They were not very demure or very inconspicuous at all. And you know people with bikers, like people were scared of bikers. And they
Stephaniehave a very They
Daniwere all looking distinctively biker. I can tell you that. The long hair, the whole, they were in a club, this is their culture. They were distinctively biker. So they stood out like a freaking sore thumb. So, but we do find out a little bit more about that evening during this trial. So, this has been, it was very, Man, I there was like 5, 000 different stories when this first came out So I just decided to wait till we got to a trial with some testimony To actually state some some parts of the case so we know what happened with Kimberly and Scott Scott and Kimberly checked into the Paul Bunyan motel in Spokane around 1245 a. m. On June 21st, please know it was In several articles that the Paul Bunyan motel in Spokane Spokane shows x rated movies in its room. Ooh. Nice feature. They made it sound so bad, they're like, the Paul Bunyan Hotel that shows x rated movies in its room. I feel like, didn't most hotels
Stephaniehave like a, you could rent VHSs?
DaniThis is 1981 stuff.
StephanieAnd how funny that it's the Paul Bunyan Motel, like that doesn't. Leave you saucy. It was probably great Advertisement for them. They're like,
Daniyeah, we'll show you a nudie flick Hey mama, let's go grab some dinner leave the kids at grandma's. Let's go watch some nudie flicks. We're going to the pub onion, baby What a great date night
StephanieI Just love that they just they had to put that in the paper like salacious. Please note that this This salacious hotel does show x rated
Danievery film like I saw in so many articles when they mentioned this hotel. It was like, Paul Bunyan Hotel shows x rated movies in its room. Anyways, Kimberly and Scott were there and I was like, Yeah, for you Paul Bunyan. Scott registered the room under the name Scott Bobbitt. Not sure why, just found it very interesting. I'm sure there were, there was Some shady dealings going
Stephanieon with you telling that there was an argument that they had with the biker gang.
DaniWell, it's also almost one o'clock in the morning. And this is the 80s. You can be anyone. There's no ID required. No credit card needed. You cannot get away with that shit now. No. I need 10 forms of ID. They need the ID. They need the credit card. They need your fingerprint. Blood sample. Blood sample. Just to open the fucking minibar. I just wanted to watch a naughty film. So, uh, Scott and Kimberly were only there at the motel for five minutes when Scott came back and told the motel employee, Lori Laddig, quote, Someone has taken my guns and I know who has them and I'm gonna go get them back and I'd like a refund on my room, please.
StephanieLike out of the vehicle? Yeah,
Daniso he, I, I, I think while he was unloading his vehicle to go into the motel room, he noticed his guns were missing and he was hot. He said, listen up, I'm about to go take care of business, so please cancel that. Yep, cancel, please, I'd like a refund. he did say he was going to return, but he didn't. Well, we know why. He was taking a dirt
Stephanienap. Sorry, that was really callous. Sorry.
DaniI fucking love it though, I'm sorry. Ah! A receipt for the Paul Bunyan Motel was found in Post Falls where the bodies were found. It's all lining up. Evidence located in Paradis home after the fire. The prosecution links to the murders are blood stained plastic bags and a belt buckle that matches the belt found on Scott's body. Ooh. Blood stained paper bags were also found stuffed underneath the kitchen sink and they contained hair that was similar to Scott's. What are we doing? Why are we They forgot to start the fire under the sink. Are you making a scrapbook? What is Why is it there? Get rid of it. I'm so disappointed. I'm just like you guys claim to be a biker gang you you all have probably been involved in some level of crime or mischief I know it's the 80s, but why are we keeping mementos of blood stained with hair paper bags? Steph the fire was supposed to make all of that shit magically disappear. You guys really suck. I suck at this. I kind of do. Samara still plans not to testify in the men's trial. She is still in jail and refuses to testify. That bitch. She's like, uh, not saying nothing. That's my man, I'm sticking with him. During a court recess, here we go, Gibson Chief loudly stated, They treat you here worse than they treated the Jews at Auschwitz. Oof. That's a stretch, sir. That's a bold. That's a fucking stretch. Go fuck yourself.
StephaniePlease dude. Anyway.
DaniAgain,
Stephanieyou are supposed to be a grown man in a motorcycle gang. Do we not have any self reflection? this makes you look like, I'm sorry, like a pussy. I don't know how else to describe it.
DaniHave you ever had to fix your bike on the side of the road? have you ever had grease on your hands? Are you like,
Stephanieoh, this is an injustice. So dirty. Ew, it's unsanitary. It's gross. Anyways, quite the fucking stretch. I'm just gonna say. Chief, for a man who calls himself chief, you want to be the alpha male. He's the El Presidente. Let's go. Be the, be the alpha male. He's like, no one even gives us manicures in here.
DaniA woman, Aria Beaver, was called to testify regarding Paradis whereabouts during the trial. But she's unable to remember if it was the day of the 19th or the 20th that she met Paradis and spent the night with him. I'm gonna just, this will come back up later, so just put that one in your pocket, okay? Got it. Meanwhile, another trial is happening across the hall. Molina's on trial for being an accomplice in Scott's death. What a shit show. So, Moline was able to see her boyfriend, Chucker, with the blessing of both judges. I think they were attempting to get a deal with a couple in exchange for their Probably. Yeah, like, um, let's just let these two go talk and see if they'll just give us some dirt.
StephanieMaybe we can get them on a plea deal to give us what we need. Right, let's let them plead
Daniout and then they'll actually testify how they're supposed to testify. Alright, so they had a How we want them to testify. They had a nice little meeting. A little reunion. Didn't go nowhere. The six month pregnant Samara was found in contempt again of court and ordered back to jail after refusing to testify. She refused to testify at Gibson and Paradis and Amaker's trial and Ameline's trial. She had been granted immunity by the prosecution, but she still will not cooperate.
StephanieIf you're granted, they're giving you immunity for your testimony. So I can see how the contempt, because I was wondering this whole time, why don't you just go plead the fifth? But if you're given a deal for your testimony and then refusing to provide your testimony, that's, I feel like that's why we are where we are.
DaniWell, her attorney states that the immunity does not protect her from any federal charges, because this is across state lines. Cause we're only, just as a little reminder, we're only dealing with Scott's murder. Not Kimberly's. Not Kimberly's. Okay. so her attorney says this does not protect her from any federal charges or any charges that may arise in Idaho for the case. For Kimberly. At Moline's trial, when pressured by Judge Guy, she still refuses. Judge Guy asked her if she was frightened to testify. She replied no. He asked her threatened. She responded tearfully no. Prosecutor Brockett asked her if she would testify if she was granted immunity by Idaho and federal authorities. She's still refused. So then ride and fucking ride and die. That's she's going down with the ship.
StephanieI don't
Daniknow.
StephanieI don't know if I could. I mean, especially being pregnant, right? And trying to think of a future for you and your child. I mean, this is very dedicated.
DaniWomen, Brockathan asked Samara to be jailed as long as one of the missing suspect, Evans Igor, remains at large. We're still missing a guy. Anybody remember that? Fucking Igor, where are you? Judge Guy says he'll revisit the matter at the end of the trial. Yeah, we're still missing a man that they're looking for. Igor's just out gallivanting.
StephanieOkay.
DaniMeanwhile, in the men's trial, medical examiner, Dr. William J. Brady, testified Scott died from head injuries. He said the force of the blows to Scott's head shattered his skull and drove pieces of the skull into his brain. Yikes! Scott also had four broken ribs. They beat the shit out of him. They did.
StephanieDamn.
Danifun day, Sunday or Saturday court.
StephanieThis is what, it's so crazy. There is never a Saturday court anymore. I just feel
Danilike there's always Saturday court in these cases. In these older cases? Yeah. The 80s are like Melina refuses to testify in the men's trial because her trial is going on while she's dead. Like, I'm not. That leaves her in a very precarious situation. But why would they even, why wouldn't they just say, let's wait till the men's, like, let's just do, why are they doing both of these trials? when asked, Melina, when asked if the murder charges were dropped if she would testify, she stated no. Ten toes down, again. And she was, what if you were given immunity from all prosecution? Her answer was still no. What about if she received aid under the Federal Witness Protection Act and was given a new identity and moved to a new location? Her response was no.
StephanieThis is so interesting to me that these women It feels like they are embodying the biker culture so much more than the men. The men are over here complaining about, Oh, unsanitary. Oh, guilty until proven innocent. And these women are like, The women are like, I will never tell you fucking anything no matter Go fuck yourself. You could offer me a million dollars and a new identity. I will never talk. So listen badass bitches really on the loyalty on the loyalty perspective And the culture of the biker gang thing The women are holding it down just wanted to
Danipoint that out criminologist william mohrig stated that bloody pieces of cloth tied around Scott's neck, and left wrists came from a piece of cloth found in the basement of Paradis's home. Yikes. In closing arguments, Prosecutor Kinney stated, even when they killed him, they weren't done. A pathologist report showed puncture wounds and sharp cuts that happened after death. The jury deliberates for seven and a half hours. The verdict? Not guilty. What?
StephanieYeah. What?
DaniNot guilty.
StephanieOkay, defense attorneys, you must have been pretty
Daniconvincing. But none of the men are released. Paradis and Gibson still face first degree murder charges in Idaho for Kimberly, and Amaker is held for a parole violation, and I think it's an organ, I think he had a parole violation. I never could figure out why they didn't pull him into the Idaho. thing, but I guess he wasn't seen here, Paradis public defender, Paul Wasson, stated, The evidence was totally circumstantial. We hope Idaho drops the charges. The case over there is much weaker. Judge Guy says it was reprehensible for Samira not to testify, but will not hold her in contempt. He's like, what are we gonna do? We've already done it. What else can we do? Fun fact, one of the jurors in this trial was Jim Whitaker, an American climber and a mountain guide. He was the first American to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 1st, 1963. He was the first full time employee at RAI and was the company's CEO in the 60s. All right, Jim. Well, I just I like those fun facts because it's not like these Intelligent, these are intelligent people. These jurors are intelligent. They just, the prosecution
Stephaniefailed
Danimiserably.
StephanieSounds like it. With all of the evidence of the bags and the fire and everything, if you can't prove the case, Sorry, you, you done fucked up.
DaniMaybe need more than two and a half months to put on a capital murder case. Yeah, let's maybe
Stephanieput some things together. A capital murder case. Let's go. We're ready now.
DaniNo, you weren't. No, you weren't. and I don't know about the other jurors, of course, but there is a very achieved person. These, these, these jurors are not, incompetent. The prosecution failed. Moline's trial is still going on across the hall. So many moving parts. I know. Spokane County Sheriff Detective Jim Hansen and Detective Sergeant Charles Bleisner testified that shortly after Moline's arrest, she admitted to her involvement of the beating death of Scott. She told them she cleaned up the blood in the kitchen and heard shouts over the loud music. Of course, this evidence was never admitted into the men's trial. What a mess!
StephanieThe trial was go it was, oh my god. What
Dania mess!
StephanieYou guys were out of your minds.
DaniThe men's jury was very upset after they heard the testimony Malene's case. They said they had no evidence connecting the men to the house. The jury felt that the men were as guilty as could be, but there was not enough evidence. The prosecution, again, failures. Moline is facing a possible 20 year to life sentence. sentence for her involvement in Scott's murder. This is no joke. The jury deliberates for 15 hours before they announced they could not reach a verdict. A mistrial was declared. Can, Moline is still in custody while the prosecution decides if they're going to retry her. Do you know, I think in the Menendez trial, they were like a month. Who lets a, what judge 15 hours?
StephanieYeah, I, you usually, there's several days and days and days. Like go again, get some more lunch. Yes, go and revisit each piece of information, see if you can come to a consensus or get anyone to move. So you wonder, was it that, was there someone that was like, I will never, what was the reason only 15 hours and you declare a mistrial? My thoughts too. Don't
Daniknow.
StephanieDon't know.
DaniIn early October, Samara was fined 180 and sentenced to six months in jail for contempt of court. With credit for her time already served, she is scheduled to be released on December 12th. The same day, Gibson's attorney Filed for Gibson's divorce from his current wife, Barbara J. Gibson.
StephanieMaybe I can actually marry my girlfriend now.
DaniHis attorney says he understands that Gibson and Samara plan to marry as soon as the divorce is final. What a love story. Ten toes down. She did it. He's not convicted. They are
Stephaniecommitted to each other fully.
DaniIn late November, the Spokane Prosecuting Attorney's Office has given up on Scott's case. They released both Samara and Moline. They also turned over Gibson and Paradis to the Idaho authorities. They said, well, uh, we fucked up. Isn't there like a meme? Oh no, it's the hangover. We fucked up. Isn't it? I don't think so.
StephanieWe fucked up. We fucked up. Uh, give it a shot, Idaho. And Idaho's like, we give the death penalty a lot like candy. Let's go. Let's go. Ooh, they're like.
DaniAnd just our own rules here and just so you understand the relation to Spokane to like post it's literally a 2030 right over the border. It's just right there. So I bet you those Idaho boys are like They're like we Spokane only make our own rules Yeah, you fucking suck cuz you know
Stephaniewhat when you're here, we just Make up whatever we want. Which we paid for, for decades after this. Oh, no, and. But I'm sure at the time they're like, we'll give him a death penalty without a trial. Hold my beer. Wild West out here. Hey
DaniSpokane, hold our beer. Oh my god. And, uh, you're gonna see, yeah. Mm hmm. It's coming. We have made it to 1981. Fine. Six months later. So much. This has happened in six months.
StephanieThis is ridiculous.
DaniSo we're back in Idaho. On February 4th, 1981, Gibson and Paradis plead innocent in the strangulation case of Kimberly. On June 15th, jury selection begins. It takes a week to seat a jury. Without explanation, the joint trial was separated by Judge Gary Hammond. Gibson will be tried first. The prosecution wants their first witness to be Cynthia Samara, but she's married Gibson by this time, and she doesn't have to testify. Look how that worked out. Fantastic.
StephanieSamara was On it. And Gibson, I think Gibson knew too, like, we got to get this taken care of.
DaniI just feel like Gibson was probably very charismatic and very Politician y and
Stephaniehe was, he
Daniwas making
Stephanieit happen. They made it work and she can't testify against him. Yep. She can't be forced to because they're married now.
DaniThe arson at Paradis home is testified to. Inside of a bloody rug. A marijuana leaf belt buckle that matched He just had to take it. Well, it was Scott's. Yeah. It matched his whole belt, but they found that marijuana leaf belt buckle, a stick, a plunger, and a lawn dart.
StephanieDid they fuck him up with a lawn dart? Yes, ma'am. Were those the punctures?
DaniYes, ma'am. Look who's listening to me! Yeah.
StephanieWhat in the, they fucked them up. And you said a lot of that was after they were even dead. This was like a frenzy. Drugs. And they thought that they were just gonna get off scot free.
DaniJust start a little fire. Oh, I stole a motorcycle and kill a few people. Just hello. In my
Stephanievery distinctive van going up a remote road where all the neighbors are watching. They really thought that. And then to have to get their van towed out of there. Can you imagine how embarrassing? I'm gonna call someone. Hopefully they don't see the bodies. Wait, I'm This is wild.
DaniBrenda Russell testified. She was Scott's fiancé when they first arrived in June 1980 in Spokane. In her testimony, she said she and Scott first met Gibson and Paradis at People's Park in Spokane. So, cuz it took me a long time to figure like how do they all of all these people know each other?
StephanieIt's the
DaniPeople's Park in Spokane.
StephanieIs this a motorcycle club hangout?
DaniIt's very popular. It's very very popular. They accidentally met them again at Glacier National Park in Montana. Bikers be bikin And they ended up getting The couple ended up giving the man Amparadis broken down motorcycle a ride back to Spokane. So you remember that they stole a motorcycle. They stole it for parts so that Amparadis could fix his. Goodness gracious. It escalates. A few days before the murder, Brenda Russell was forced to return to California and left her fan behind to Scott and Kimberly. So this is what happened. Her van, she left her van behind. Yeah. The blue and white. Yeah. Her and Scott were dating and he comes back to Spokane and hooks up. with Kimberly and Which was his ex girlfriend So you there were several times in the stories where it was like, this is his fiance. This is girlfriend This is no, he he was like a certified lover boy. Mmm, I remember you Kim. Let's go and then so Brenda was upset and went home. She wasn't forced She was just like I'm out And then all this happens. I bet she was like, thank God I wasn't around. Fuck that. Uh, yeah. They had a fight because he hooked up with his old girlfriend. He was being a little slutty. Yeah. That's alright. I get it. They were young. the motel clerk again testified. There's a lot of similar testimony as in the first trial in Spokane. The defense is arguing that Kimberly was killed in Spokane, and therefore Idaho has no jurisdiction. Medical examiner Brady He again testifies, and he said that Kimberly has, had fluid in her lungs, and he said it could have come from her last desperate breaths while laid face down in shallow water. Evans, who again, still at large, his hat was found under her body. Oh my god, what
Stephanieare y'all
DaniHa ha ha ha, you keepin track of all this? They're like,
Stephaniehey, let's put some clothes under the bodies and shit, like, anyone wanna put a sock under the dude? Let's What is happening?
DaniI Just Drugs. Ha ha ha. Well, she was found in a sleeping bag, right? No, Scott was found in the sleeping bag. There was another sleeping bag, but she was not in it. Cause I was like, well maybe the hat was just
Stephanieleft over in there and they didn't
DaniNo.
StephanieMan, these drugs.
DaniI'm sure. There had to be. They were up all night doing all this stuff. The next day they're still out. Stealing motorcycles. Nothing else is on fire. Yeah. Putting a lawn dart in a bloody rug. What the fuck? Gibson testifies. In his own trial. During his testimony, he implicated himself in Kimberly's murder. He said he knocked Kimberly unconscious in Spokane last June, and then watched another man strangle her on the kitchen floor. Good lord. Quote. I saw Kimberly Palmer choked. She turned blue. He said Evans Igor was bending over her with his fingers around her throat. How convenient. Mm hmm. He said he also saw the start of the beating of Scott. Gibson said his role in the murders was, quote, I stopped her from leaving the Spokane house. I helped get rid of the bodies. He also testified that Paradis came into the kitchen with a baseball bat and struck Scott in the head with it. They did, they beat the fuck out of this. They went ham. Gibson then said he went and grabbed Samara and told her to get in the car and leave. When he came back into the house, I saw the kitchen was just a mess. Scott Currier was either dead or dying on the floor. Evans was still in the house and Paradis was leaving. Noticing Ameer was not in sight. Gibson further testified that Kimberly came running out of the back and as soon as she ran by me, I grabbed her, pulled her down on the floor and hit her and knocked her out. Gibson said he was afraid Kimberly was running for help. Really, you think?
StephanieI think she might be if someone's being stabbed with Lawn Dart.
DaniHe then brought Kimberly back into the kitchen. Oh, he then brought Kimberly back to the kitchen on the floor and took her pulse. She was alive. And when Evans reappeared, he told him that Larry Evans was a straddle her. This is a quote. Larry Evans was a straddle her, choking her. When asked why he didn't try to stop him, Gibson said, I was afraid to.
StephanieThis man is a pussy. I mean, we've Mold. He's part of his little club that supposedly gives him some type of big tough guy stuff, but he, every single action by Gibson is just like, weak, weak, loser, lame, ha ha ha
Daniha
Stephanieha.
DaniAround daybreak, Paradis returned home and was very upset about having two bodies found in his house. What the hell? Pretty much. Goddammit guys. I told you this could be our clubhouse. Sometimes.
StephanieTwo bodies?
DaniBut we're not killing people here, okay?
StephanieWe're only
Danistealing motorcycles.
StephanieTwo actual
Danibodies. You've stained my rug. I really like that rug. Paradis decided the two should be disposed of. At this point, yeah. Gibson and Amaker tied Scott's body in a sleeping bag. And it was presumed Paradis and Evans wrapped Kimberly in another sleeping bag. Not well. Not well. He was told that we're gonna take a drive. While on Schilling Loop, the van stalled. Gibson
StephanieIn the most unrel They're like, this van's transmission is bad. It can't shift out of first, but let's go. You gotta be fucking kidding me. No,
Danishush. There's drugs. I'm telling you. So many drugs. Gibson said that he stayed with the vehicle while Paradis dragged Kimberly's body down the embankment in a sleeping bag. He also admitted there was a gun in the blanket that so many people saw him carrying his baby that morning. I thought people would think it's
Stephaniemy baby. Who doesn't go on a morning walk with their baby and three other men shoulder to shoulder down the most remote road that everyone knows is treacherous?
DaniThen he and Samara headed to California to get married. Which they couldn't have.
StephanieThe love story. We just murdered
Danisomebody, let's go get married.
StephanieThe romance, the love story in this is just wild.
DaniWhen the prosecution pressed Gibson asking if Kimberly was revived and then chased down and strangled, Gibson simply replied no. So this is why it's being tried in Idaho. I'm just gonna break it down. What Idaho is saying is that they killed Scott in Spokane and then they basically kidnapped Kimberly. And roughed her up a little bit and brought her to Idaho and then decided they were just gonna, they were just gonna kill her
Stephanieas well. There. So
Daniit's a shaky foundation to stand on, but they were pretty firm. The state of Idaho felt pretty, pretty fucking good about that Kimberly was killed in Idaho, which is going to come into play. This is why it's so messy. It's just so many failures. After two hours of deliberation, the jury found Gibson guilty of first degree murder. They got it done. They said, uh, yeah, bye. He's facing the death penalty.
StephanieI just want, like, I wish that there was video of this type of shit in a jury. Everyone being like, y'all saw what I saw? I mean, we could go over it just to, I mean, I guess we gotta cover our bases. This, everyone in agreement. This, everyone in agreement. Anyway, guilty. If we're here for another 30 minutes, they will bring us lunch.
DaniI don't know, I just, I prefer to go to my own place. I'm sick of having to figure out where you fuckers want to eat every day. This weird catering that's cold. I want to go home and make a fucking sandwich. Can we just fucking Just My wife has leftovers, you know? Let's go.
StephanieMy wife made broccoli cheese soup this morning, so If everyone's in agreement, can we
Daniplease Fucking Boom! Let's get this shit done. And you know we're going to have to be in fucking court for like another two hours while they fucking do all this stuff. We have to read all the things. Oh my god. I guess I'll have it for dinner. Oh my god. On November 2nd, Thomas Henry Gibson is sentenced to death. Too fucking like
StephanieThey said, again, this is why I said, I was like, we'll fucking give them the death penalty. Let's go. We'll figure it out. We ain't
Daniplaying. They
Stephaniedid.
DaniOh, shit.
