Speaker 2:Chronic inflammation is like that uninvited guest at your party. It just won't leave. But don't worry, nature has some powerful ways to show it the door. Let's dive into holistic solutions that soothe your body and bring long-lasting relief. Welcome back everyone. Skip Monty, your co-host, slash producer, back in the studio with Reverend Anne-Marie Byers and Rochelle Gianaris. Anne-marie and Rochelle, how's it going?
Speaker 3:Wonderful. How about with you? Skip?
Speaker 2:I'm doing just fine, doing just fine. How about you, rochelle? With you, skip, I'm doing just fine, doing just fine. How about you, rochelle? Doing well. Thank you All right, awesome. Well, let's get to the meat of the episode here. What are some natural and holistic ways to reduce inflammation? Reverend Ann, why don't you take that?
Speaker 3:Oh, first and foremost, as Hippocrates said, and and we always say that food is your first medicine. So eating a good organic diet so that you know when you eat organic you don't get all the pesticides and so you don't have to process those out of the body. Studies have actually shown that organic food is twice as nutritious as conventionally grown food. So you're getting twice as much nutrition and you're not having to process out all of the chemicals and pesticides in conventionally grown food. So that's a good start. Fruit is a wonderful, easy-to-digest food that gives you energy. Fruit is easy to digest so it doesn't require so much intervention from the body. It has the good inulin fiber when you eat the whole fruit. So eating a lot of organic fruits and vegetables to get the good fiber to help things flow quickly through the body so that you get those good nutrients that way. So eating a good organic diet. Reducing stress because once again, stress is the cause of inflammation in the body. Different kinds of stress, of course, whether it's be taking a vacation, that can be stressful, even though that's fun. Holidays are stressful. But then if you have a significant family event, you have a illness in your immediate family, you have a loss of a family member. That can be extremely stressful and cause a lot of inflammation. It can be extremely stressful and cause a lot of inflammation. So reducing inflammation is balancing your body, working on your food choices and being kind to your body, taking care of it when it is sick. And certain things that are calming to the body, like peppermint tea, can calm the digestion and calm the body, so utilizing things of that nature to reduce inflammation. We have several supplements that we utilize with holographic health that help to manage inflammation in the body, like our cherry gold. We use some topical products, like our Campo Rub and Alchoway that help to soothe the muscles and the joints in the body, so that can really help to feed the tissues from the outside to calm everything down, help the energy to flow, because energy flow in the body is what we're really looking to do to help the energy flow better. The body is what we're really looking to do to help the energy flow better. So you feel a lot more capable of managing life on a day-to-day basis. So how you feel is always extremely important. So if you get up one morning and you're really having a very low day, maybe you need to slow down and be kind to yourself that day, because continuing to be on that treadmill and running and not taking care of the body and the mind and the spirit will increase the inflammation in the body. So it's not just the food you eat, it's not just the water you drink, it's everything you take in to the body. What you're watching on television, what you're talking about with other people All of those have an impact and a lot of people don't think about that, but they do.
Speaker 3:We don't advocate throwing out conventional medicine, because that has its place. You can utilize ibuprofen to reduce inflammation. If you take 600 milligrams four times a day, that also inhibits the healing response, so it will take you longer to heal by utilizing that. So that's just something to keep in mind. There are times when you really need to utilize a painkiller. If you've had a surgery utilized a painkiller. If you've had a surgery, if you have a headache, it just will not go away and you can't get proper rest because of that. Those are the times you go with something conventional like that so your body can rest. But doing things like that long term ibuprofen is really hard on the stomach. I had a doctor one time to tell me that she avoided that as much as possible because it was like shutting off a grenade in your digestive system. So because we know that your digestive system is a huge part of your immune system, you want to keep that healthy, and so minimizing the amount of painkillers and things like that that you pay is really important in reducing inflammation overall.
Speaker 2:Wow, peppermint tea. Huh, that sounds great, it sounds great. So what are some easy lifestyle changes that can naturally support an anti-inflammatory response.
Speaker 4:Well, like Anne said, making sure that you take the time to rest when your body needs rest, listening to your body, identifying things that may cause your body and your mind and your soul more stress, and giving your body time to recover from those things, and also making sure you're getting enough good quality water to support your body's natural processes. Using our muscle testing techniques that our founder, dr Baruti, developed, we can identify some of those things that are specific to the body that may cause more inflammation, like maybe you have food allergies, like I've dealt with before, that really cause terrible inflammation and other symptoms that you can nail down and determine. Here's my symptoms. And using our techniques with muscle testing, we can identify the specifics of what's causing those inflammatory or uncomfortable responses that our body's having. So getting to the root cause of what's causing the inflammation is often very helpful with coming up with a program to alleviate and address some of that inflammation as well.
Speaker 2:Very good, very good. So is there a secret handshake to join the anti-inflammatory club, or do we just start by eating more leafy greens?
Speaker 3:You know it's a lifelong commitment really to reduce inflammation in the body, because as we get older the body is less efficient, some of us have to work harder to stay healthy. But it's more of a lifestyle. You try to reduce stress, as Rochelle and I both said, all along and do things that make your heart happy all along and do things that make your heart happy, your meditation, prayer, all of that to reduce stress is very important living a life that you love, eating foods you like. You know I have never been one to enjoy broccoli. It's hard for me to eat, I don't particularly like it, and so I just don't eat it very often. If you like it, wonderful, it's a wonderful food. So I choose other foods that I do like, that have the good. I enjoy kale more than broccoli. I just just love avocados, and avocados are such a good food so I would much rather eat an avocado. Some people don't like avocados, and that's okay. So choose foods that are good for you, that you really enjoy.
Speaker 3:Eat anything in moderation, but even dark chocolate is a good thing Once again, in moderation. But even dark chocolate is a good thing, once again, in moderation. So if you like it, wonderful. I'm not particularly fond of chocolate that much, but everybody likes it a little bit. But it is a good food which actually helps to reduce inflammation and protect against cancer cells. So it's in, once again, in moderation, very good.
Speaker 3:But you don't want all the sugar with conventional chocolate. That's where we get into trouble. Tea is a wonderful food as long as it's not combined with a lot of sugar, because sugar is very acidic and creates inflammation. So probably, if I had to just make a statement about inflammation, the number one culprit in our country is sugar. I'm talking about white table sugar.
Speaker 3:In our country is sugar I'm talking about white table sugar. Now the sugar coming from fruits natural fruit sugar is a food for the body and gives you energy, but the same amount of white cable sugar is going to spike your blood sugar. You're going to get that spike and then the you know valley later where you're going to crash and your body is going to become more inflamed from that. So that's just one thing somebody can. Somebody can do switching to agave for a sweetener. Honey is a wonderful food that provides a lot of good food for the body and also good for reducing inflammation. A good local honey is a good food for allergies as well, as you know, a natural sweetener, so finding somebody that we can get some good local honey from is really good for you. So those are just some examples of simple things you can do eating the whole fruit, making sure it's organic, more than drinking a juice, and squishing out your white table sugar with agave honey, maple syrup something that is kinder for the body.
Speaker 2:What about?
Speaker 1:cane sugar.
Speaker 2:Is that better than white?
Speaker 3:table sugar or is it the the same thing? It's pretty much the same thing. You can get an organic pain sugar, but it's still very processed. If you're going to use any kind of sugar, then get something organic coconut sugar. You can usually substitute in baking for as a one-on-one substitution and that is much better for the body than just white sugar. So if I'm going to make cookies for Christmas I'll use coconut sugar and some of these things I've learned over time.
Speaker 3:There's a Bonnie Harihari that's food-bathed. She has a lot of information out there about how to substitute for your family and that's one of her big things is use coconut sugar instead of regular white sugar and it's a whole lot more nutritious for the body and doesn't spot the blood sugar as much. It's a little more level, as is maple syrup and agave and things like that. The pick one you like and can tolerate and over time you'll find that you really enjoy the types of sweeteners much more than you would like white cable sugar. We love coffee yogurt so I'll mix up my own with some maple syrup and vanilla and organic yogurt. So those I can. So those I can really control the amount and the kind of sugar that is in the food that we eat by mixing it up myself.
Speaker 2:So those are some things you can do to you in a bad way. So thank you so much. Both of you and I appreciate your time today and we'll catch you guys in the next episode. Thanks so much.
