Are you ready to take bold action and live a life of brilliance? Welcome to the Bold and Brilliant podcast, where women leaders share inspiring stories about daring decisions that shape their businesses, their lives, and their careers. Today I'm bringing you a message from my own heart and my own experience. Welcome to the Bold and Brilliant podcast.

Tracie Root

Welcome everyone, to the Bold and Brilliant podcast. I'm Tracie Root. I'm the founder of this podcast. I'm the founder of other things too. But today we're gonna leave it there because I am here to welcome you to season two. This is the first episode. I'm going to record this kind of short and sweet opening welcome introduction to who I am and why we're doing this thing, and kind of some thoughts about starting a second season of the Bold and Brilliant podcast. I, uh, had an opportunity this morning in my community, the Gather community to facilitate part of a mastermind group with some of our members. I say part of, because someone else was facilitating another part, and that was scheduled as part of the benefit of membership of this mastermind. But one of the questions that came up ended up having to do with. How do you manage your energy or not manage your energy, but like your life when things get really busy and you feeling overwhelmed or there's so much to do and the should start creeping in? What do you handle it? And so I decided that this opening of season two of the podcast is gonna be called Your Business, your Rules. Because it comes down to this one statement. It doesn't have to be anything. What you're doing in your business doesn't have to be what you think it should be or look like someone else's business or, or even have the same things in it. As far as. Information and offers and communication schedules and social media calendars and all of those things, none of that has to be anything. You get to decide. It is your business. You make the rules, and so I'm gonna give you three points. To think about, and this might not, I mean, maybe you'll have an aha. Oh my gosh, my life has changed from listening to this. But this also might be the beginning of thinking of how to do it differently so that you are fulfilled, so that you are happy, so that you are having the business flow and activity that you want. In December in the Gather community, we had a VIP kind of client appreciation party, VIP appreciation party online. Everything in Gather community is online. Um, and I sent out wooden blocks to everyone who told me that they could attend and little paint sets. And we talked about whether we had chosen a word for the year. And if we had, what was that about? And if you hadn't, what are you thinking? And a lot of people said that they had already chosen a word for the year, and I think that makes sense in kind of where the world is right now, that people are looking for an anchor to hold on to. Maybe it's not an anchor, maybe it's a handle. A handle to hold onto when the seas get rough. An anchor would also. Suffice, as long as you're not holding onto the anchor and end up at the bottom of the water. But if the anchor is anchoring your boat there, that would work as a analogy as well. And my choice for my word was ease. And this is my block and it's kind of in my brand colors, a little pink, a little blue. Um, it's kind of flowy and because I want. My business, my life, my every day to be full of ease. Relationships with ease, because we are aligned business with ease because it is coming from within and it's not looking like anything I think it should be. So let's talk about what to get rid of in order to have ease. What can you get rid of? Shoulds. It's a great place to start, in fact. My mouth kind of hesitates every time I talk about the idea of a should. Like just even looking at my video, watching my mouth form the word feels very strange because I've literally removed it from my day to day vocabulary. There are no shoulds. I have choices I can make. I have decisions. To make, but I don't have to, and neither do you have to do it any way that anyone else prescribes or that it's not required to do it like other people. That's not the only way. Even if it's, it feels like that's how you have success, it doesn't mean that you have to do it that way. There is not only one path to success. Here's another thing you could get rid of if this makes sense for you.'cause it's your business, your rules, you get to decide what about always following a template or a script. Now, when we're early in business, we think that these are training wheels and maybe they are. Because I'm not gonna tell you whether you're a right or wrong for you, but what if you wanna do it differently and the template that you are following isn't aligned for you? You can decide not to follow it. You can do it differently. It is your business, your rules. The third point in this kind of what to get rid of. Honestly, it's trends. Do we wanna be trendy or do we wanna be aligned, authentic and real? Um, if you follow fashion, trendy fashion, the whole point of what a trend is is that it's short term, it's not going to last. It's maybe flashy and catches your attention, and then it's over. I don't think any of us want our businesses to be like that. To be over in a flash. You can just say no thank you to all of that. We can say no thank you to others' expectations. We could say No thank you to someone telling you that you should smile. This came up on online today, and I was laughing because the story was like, oh, this guy told this girl, whatever, you should smile more. And every time I hear that, now I actually start smiling because I'm laughing. Just because you tell me to smile doesn't mean I have to. I might start laughing and kind of unavoidably smile, but it's not because you told me to. It's because what you just asked me to do is ridiculous and I don't need to do, what are you telling me? So because it's my business, my rules, it's my humanness, my rules, I get to decide what's right for me. So do you. Okay, so that's 0.1. Things to get rid of. The list can go on and on, but we'll stop it there. The second point about your business, your rules is not only do you get to decide what to get rid of, but you also get to decide what actions you want to take. And how to build your business model around your desired lifestyle. Now I'm a mom. I'm a mom of teenagers, which is very different from 13 years ago when I was a mom of middle schoolers ish. Um, or actually wait 13 years ago. Is that right? No, elementary schoolers, I guess at that point. Um, and. Those lives are very different and the process of living those days is very different. And what my business look like then and now are very different. The point being that I get to decide and so do you how to build my business model around my lifestyle now that my kids are older. And the younger one drives and the older one is on her own motor, whatever that looks like for her on any given day. You know, I'm not required to be the mom, taxi. I am. We're a very kind of, uh, everyone's, uh, everyone fend for yourself when it comes to dinner. Most nights. I'm not tied to any. Rules of motherhood. I'm not tied to any rules of wife. I'm not tied to any rules of when I'm working. Often I'll start late, end late, or I might start late, end early, or maybe I'll start early end really early or end late. It doesn't matter because whatever it is, I am building my business. My action path around what serves me on any given day for any given month, for any given season in what the business looks like now and what I want it to look like in the future. And so can you, I hope that you're getting the point of the so can you every time because it is your business, your rules, so build your model around your lifestyle. Oh, and the third point goes back to ease and recognizing that the ways that we align energetically with other people, with ideas, with how we learn, or who we learn from when we find ease in that alignment. We are so much more fulfilled. We are so much happier and we feel like it all makes sense. Think of the opposite. If you're forcing something to happen and it's difficult and it's not aligned, how much harder is that and will you in that pushing energy? Find the success and fulfillment and happiness you're looking for. My guess is that you will not. So when you find your alignment and find the ease that allows that to happen, you recognize that you are going in the right direction for you, and that trickles to not only your fulfillment, but your client's fulfillment, their success, and your success. The success and fulfillment of the whole community around you, whether they're friends or neighbors, or coworkers, clients, family. When you have ease and alignment in yourself, everything else as ease also, and by deciding that it's your business, your rules. This is way more possible. These are my thoughts for you today. I hope that you enjoyed. I hope that you got some insights for yourself. If you had any ahas or have anything that you'd like to talk about with this, please connect with me on social media. You can find me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, substack. Um. We have lots of online events in the Gather community come to those. Those are open. Many of them are free. If you are a woman leader or entrepreneur, you are absolutely welcome to join us. And you know, just take it to heart that it is your business, your rules. If someone else is trying to impose their will upon you, you get to decide. Whether or not that's for you, and I hope that you will make the decision that's right for you here in 2026. Thank you for listening to the Bold and Brilliant podcast. We'll see you again super soon.
