Egg quality is one of the most important components of fertility success because the egg provides much of the cellular machinery needed for fertilization, early embryo development, and implantation. Without a healthy, competent egg, conception cannot occur, even when sperm is present. Age is one of the strongest influences on egg quality, but lifestyle, underlying medical conditions, and reproductive health all play meaningful roles as well. A quality egg joined with quality sperm creates the foundation for a quality embryo; embryo quality reflects contributions from both partners, not just the egg alone.  Research also shows that poorer semen quality can negatively affect embryo development, reinforcing that optimal fertility depends on both egg and sperm health.  In short, healthy eggs plus healthy sperm create the best chance for a strong embryo and a successful pregnancy.
