ParcelPedia's Ultimate Guide to Private Mailbox Capacity
Are There Size Limitations For Receiving Packages At A Private Mailbox?
Struggling with oversized packages or missed deliveries? You're not alone. Countless shoppers face the frustration of finding those dreaded "we missed you" stickers on their doors or worrying about valuable packages sitting unprotected on their porches.
This eye-opening conversation with James Banks, owner of ParcelPedia in Frisco, tackles the frequently asked question: "Are there size limitations for receiving packages at a private mailbox?" James reveals that private mailboxes can accept virtually any package deliverable by major carriers like FedEx, UPS, or DHL. The proof? ParcelPedia has successfully handled packages weighing up to 150 pounds and measuring the length of a king-size mattress. While oversized items should ideally be picked up within two weeks, the team understands that life happens and works with customers when circumstances change.
Private mailboxes offer crucial privacy protection while ensuring someone is always available to receive your packages. Whether you prefer notification by text, email, phone call, or all three, you'll know immediately when your package arrives.

Speaker 2:If you're considering a private mailbox for personal or business use, you might be wondering can I handle all of your deliveries, big or small? Let's dive into the details of package size limitations and how Parcelpedia manages large shipments. Welcome back everyone. I'm Sophia Yvette, co-host slash producer, back in the studio with owner of Parcelpedia, james Banks. James, how's it going?
Speaker 3:I'm doing well, Sophia. How are you?
Speaker 2:I'm doing well, James.
Speaker 3:Excellent.
Speaker 2:So, james, everyone wants to know are there size limitations for receiving packages at a private mailbox?
Speaker 3:All right, good question, and this is kind of a yes and no answer. Yes, there are limitations, but the only limitations are those that the carriers impose. So if you can have it delivered here, then we can accept it. Basically, it's really rare that you can somehow get a package to us that is too large. If it can't fit on a FedEx truck or a UPS truck, dhl truck, then we wouldn't be able to receive that. Now we can receive large shipments, larger than that, as long as we have a notification. Normally we ask for a couple of days at least, just so we have staff on hand for things like freight shipments that we can have delivered here, as long as you have a pickup also scheduled and in place. Now, as far as large packages just bigger boxes, things of that nature we can accept them. There are, again, not a limitation outside of carrier limits. We do ask, though, for larger packages to be picked up within two weeks, so we give a fortnight pretty good amount of time.
Speaker 3:We feel like free to get it picked up. If it's just a circumstance that something comes up, just communicate with us. We know we'll work with you. Things happen, you know. Kids get out of school early, there's field trips, all those types of things. So we understand days don't always work out how you expect them to be, but for the most part, if you can get it shipped, if it's showing that it'll deliver to our address, we can probably receive it. So I don't want to say no limits, but for the most part, if it's allowed, we can take it for you and we can help you too. If you're trying to decide how that will work as far as coordinating it and having people here to receive it, we can always help you with that too. Feel free to reach out, call, email, anything like that.
Speaker 2:So, James, what's the largest package size Parcelpedia can accept?
Speaker 3:Very good question. So as far as indoors, that's another big thing. So the carriers what they can allow. We can accept indoors, things that are palletized, things that come with a freight truck. It's not going to fit to the door so we have to leave those outside. But as far as largest package that we received and held inside the store, it was the absolute limit, which is 150 pounds for a carrier. It was like 149.5 or something like that and it was I'm used to the length of a king size mattress. So the king size mattress I don't know how they do it, but they basically vacuum pack them. So it was really narrow but super long, super heavy. But we got it through the door, held it for the customer and they came and picked it up, hauled it away in their truck, so pretty easy.
Speaker 2:How long can oversized packages be stored before pickup is required, if it is one of those huge packages?
Speaker 3:Yeah, for the really large ones we do try to stick with that two-week limit. We feel like two weeks is a good enough time to schedule either yourself to pick it up, send a friend to pick it up or just get something coordinated. We do understand that we do have customers that are out of the state, sometimes even out of the country. Sometimes things are just poorly timed. It's like as soon as they leave the country, boom, a big shipment comes in. They're like, oh, that wasn't supposed to happen. You know it was a mix-up and so we'll work with you.
Speaker 3:We we try not to incur or assess fees on our customers. We always feel like fees are a way to just drain people dry if they're unnecessary. So it's rare when you can hit with a storage fee at Parcelpedia, but if you are, you must not have one of that package too bad because it's been here for a while. We try not to incur fees, but they are there in place just to be meaningful as far as our other customers, because if your packages are really too big and taking up space, it prohibits us from accepting new packages for other customers because we just don't have the space for it. So that's really what it is.
Speaker 2:It's a community we got to work together and look out for each other Most definitely. How does Parcelpedia notify customers when a package arrives? Do you send them a text message or friendly call?
Speaker 3:Those are two of the ways. So text message, call, email we stopped doing the carrier pigeons. They're not as reliable so we try to do more modern technologies. Yeah, it's all for the preference of the customer. We always ask you that as soon as you open your mailbox, you know how would you like to be notified for packages. Mailbox, you know how would you like to be notified for packages. Most people, you know, in modern era they choose text. Email is good, just to have a kind of a paper chain. I guess you could say if it was digital Phone calls, we do too.
Speaker 3:Leave a voicemail if we can't get ahold of you. It's really just your preference. Some people want all three, I don't know, cover all their bases type of thing. But some people are very, very adamant like text me, email me. If I don't pick up, leave a message and we do it all. You know just that way. You know it's here, so it's just a few minutes for us but it's a huge help for the customer. So we were really adamant about that. And as far as notification preferences, it's up to you. So if you want to go back to the carrier pigeon, I'll have to invest in a new flock, but we'll look into it for you.
Speaker 2:Well, I'm sure the customers are glad to know that is always an option.
Speaker 3:Oh yes, oh yes.
Speaker 2:Can businesses use private?
Speaker 3:mailbox to receive bulk shipments? Yes, you can. Bulk shipments are nothing new for us. We're definitely here to help A lot of people starting out their small business do not have the space to store their products. Starting out, they're just getting started and maybe working out of home. They have a mailbox, they have a new address and they would love a way to ship out their items from a place that has everything they need boxes, packing materials, all that. So we do that a lot for a few customers as far as helping them fulfill their shipments through bulk shipping by even storing some of their product.
Speaker 2:And what are the main benefits of using a private mailbox over home address for package deliveries?
Speaker 3:Oh man, it's a lot of reasons. Main thing I always heart on is security. So a lot of carriers these days, when they deliver a package, they provide a picture and so, depending on who you're ordering from, they can now have a full picture of your front door, your home address. For some people they may not think too much of that, but I know a lot of people who take their privacy very seriously and this is a good way to kind of shield you from just having your personal business out for anyone to see. Really, so having a mailbox here it allows you to get packages and it allows you to have someone here at all times to receive the package, when you may be away, may be in a meeting, you may be on call, you may be outside the house. You're running a grocery errand. They come to deliver to us during store hours so there's always someone here.
Speaker 3:We sign for it, we notify you, you know it's safe and you just come pick it up at your convenience. You don't have to hope to be home and picking out the blinds and they don't leave that sticker on your door that they missed you and all those things. We just eliminate it. You know, start a mailbox with us. We'll take those packages, we'll let you know they're here and you can call us on the way. Hey, I'm in a rush, I'm pulling up. In five minutes We'll be out at the door waiting for you. We've done that a million times. Bring the package to your door. So anything we can do to help, that's what we're here for listeners.
Speaker 2:James, We'll catch you in the next episode. Have a fantastic rest of your day.
