how's it going everyone? Welcome to leo's liberation. I'm your host, dre, and here we are ending another monday together. Uh, this monday has been a snowy one. The snow is on the ground and the air is frigid enough to force you to quickly change into some pajamas as soon as you get home, fix a quick hot meal, get the kids squared away and crawl into bed. That is the kind of evening we're having here, folks. But you know, there is no feeling better than to have a snow day off or to telework, for those of us that like snow, of course. But if you had to leave the house and drive to work this morning, welcome home and it's time to wind down.
Speaker 1So, basically, you know, before the weekend kicked off, just prior to here, I had a few interesting conversations leading into the weekend. Um, I'll be making a few podcasts to cover the material in the near future, but just to kind of give you a heads up. It's about sustainable attraction to your partner or spouse. Um, is basically going to be the gist of the podcast, but you know there'll be more on that later. Just kind of had some information that was thrown at me and it was something that was great to to kind of had some information that was thrown at me and it was something that was great to kind of learn. I was a little shocked by what I learned and you know, my friend was actually gracious enough to give me the source from where they got this information. So I've been doing a lot of reading and definitely looking forward to kind of presenting that information to you guys and hopefully getting some feedback about it. So you know, the weekend went well, continuing to move forward on a positive note.
Speaker 1This year I enjoyed the beginning of a new year. Man, there are so many ways that you can literally choose to start anew, but you know, starting new trends is always a fun way to shake things up. So yesterday we sat and had a home-cooked breakfast with some music lightly playing in the background. The music was playing while I cooked. You know that's always a great feeling too. You know we didn't talk much while we were eating, but you know, the food was good. I'm not gonna lie, it was. It was a damn good breakfast. But you know, just gonna toot my own horn for a second. But you know, when I'm hungry I can actually burn in the kitchen. I'm pretty good at cooking if I'm hungry enough. And that was a Sunday morning where we woke up and I was hungry as hell. So, um, a definite force to be reckoned with, obviously in the kitchen if I'm hungry. However, after breakfast, you know, we sat and we shared funny videos from our phone while, you know, drinking some post-breakfast tea has snobby and pretentious as that sounds, but, yes, we finished our breakfast and had some tea afterwards because it does help with the digestion, um, but you know it sounds too picture perfect, right, and not saying that every Sunday is perfect or we're just. You know we're not just laying in bed and being lazy, which most Sundays that's usually the case. But you know that's what Sunday's for, right, but for us, you know, we agreed this Sunday, you know, new year, new stuff, trying new things. We agreed to try to make this an every Sunday thing.
Speaker 1It has been put on me as an obligation that I cook breakfast every Sunday. I don't mind, it was actually very relaxing. Cooking has always been a relaxing event for me. I'm down for this kind of bonding. You know. Food, minimal conversation and a positive start to the day Count me in All right.
Speaker 1So, you know, while we look through our phones, I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the incoming feeds on my social media were aimed at humor or kind-hearted shorts. Like most of you, I'm exhausted from all the negativity in the world. I get it, life just has to happen, and it's not always pretty. Truth be told, I don't need to hear about it from multiple sources 24 hours a day, and neither do you. I have eyes and ears and I'm not a fan of misery-seeking company, which seems to be the norm these days. Everyone's trying to drag someone else into the pit of insanity, anger, despair and distrust, simply because they cannot find peace in their own life.
Speaker 1I've always said that if people were offended or bothered by something, virtually, or that they see in the media, turn it off. That is probably the most powerful thing you can do. Turn it off. And here, probably the most powerful thing you can do Turn it off. And here's me taking my own advice. I'm actually going to turn it off this time around.
Speaker 1So you know, um, you know, this cold Monday evening we're going to talk briefly about purging. And no, I'm not talking about the purge, um, you know, for all the movie and pop culture buffs out there, we're not talking about you grabbing a weapon of choice and going out period. That is not the purge that we're talking about. So no, this is a more peaceful and self-involved purge, or decluttering of life, as I think may be a better way of placing that. So you know, a purge of negativity and stresses. This is more of a Friday topic than a Monday, but you know what the hell. So, but you know, my hope is that you'll begin this purge today and it will lead you into the weekend feeling relieved that you've removed a few negative influences from your life. Let's call this Operation Clean Slate. And you know what?
Speaker 1There was a post on Reddit about. Oh man, it was about eight or eight or so months ago. In the post, it asked the question if something bad happens in your life, do you get an urge to just purge all or some of your belongings? And I think we've all been at this point one time or another, whether we've lost a loved one, had a bad relationship where we broke up, or we were escaping a relationship, and we just want to sometimes get rid of those things that remind us of that situation. And sometimes it's not necessarily a relationship based, sometimes it's just us, I think, just trying to start over. So you know, but most of the responses there, most of the responses refer to the figurative shedding of your skin and stepping into the world. You know, some responses refer to it being a matter of gaining control of your life, which, you know, usually after something traumatic, I think we're all trying to seek and regain control of our life to some extent. You know, clearing the mind, escaping and starting over after an extremely significant life event. That could be whether you were diagnosed with cancer and you beat the cancer and you've come out on top. You're most likely probably, yeah, you're going to shed some skin and get rid of some of that extra fat, to kind of, you know, start life over and feel fresh again. But you know, the one great thing about purging is, I think, definitely clearing that mind and taking control of your life. I think that is probably one of the best things that comes out of this is that you get control back.
Speaker 1Um, it is so easy for us these days to to think hoard, hoard information, hoard, uh, hoard people. Uh, we hoard items. I think I don't know what happened. We turned into hoarders. I would blame 2020, but I think I might blame the internet. I'm not sure if it's a combination of the internet and 2020,. I would blame 2020, but I think I might blame the internet. I'm not sure if it's a combination of the internet and 2020. I'm not really sure, but you know, we are. We are hoarders and we like to. I think cup it would be the word I'm looking for here Um, but we, we like to hold on to things. I don't know what's what, the possessive nature is there, but that seems to be our thing as people.
Speaker 1But you know, all of these are valid reasons, I think, to start over. I think I've said this before and this is the best thing about being human. You know we get knocked down. We get back up. We can make the choice to literally deliberately start our life over if we want to. Now, can you change everything? No, but you can most likely, you know change your decision making patterns, change. You know who you were involved with. You know who's in your life. You know what things you're allowing yourself to be exposed to, things like that. You know we have absolute control over these things and probably most cases I'm not going to say all, because there are some cases where you know there are some people who are out there that just don't have control over these things for multiple reasons, and you know there could be a laundry list of those, but you know, everybody wants to be that phoenix that comes out and you rise from the ashes and you're stronger and better than you were before. Everybody wants to be that person. So, you know me.
Speaker 1I started my mission Friday evening. I closed out a few accounts that I really had no use for, just spending unnecessary money, and I think that was part of the new year's resolution thing about just, you know, people always trying to save money, but, yeah, I just closed out accounts that I had no use for. I went through social media. I removed people that I haven't spoken with in almost a year or so. Maybe I've made the attempt, maybe not, but I just I'm just I don't know, but we just we're not linking, so I don't really see the purpose in that. Um, you know, the biggest thing, uh, for me, though, was I went through all of my social media accounts and I cleared out the history, I cleared out the, I reset the preferences and, um, I deleted anything that involved the news or politics, um, or just anything negative in general, and I reset everything so that I can only see things that promote thought, education and laughter. You know, basically good vibes, and you know that's what's working for me.
Speaker 1Each of you may have a different approach to this, but you know, take back that control of how you're influenced mentally and emotionally by the Internet and social media. That's the one thing you can definitely control is basically go online, google how to, you know, reset your preferences and get that fixed. If you find that your feed, your algorithm or whatever is all jacked up and all you're getting is negative Nancy stuff, go in there and fix that. You have control over that. You don't have to wait for Facebook or Instagram to do that for you. You go in there, you take control and you fix it. And you know they're all linked. So I mean, you fix one. I think the others will fall in line.
Speaker 1I will say after I did actually reset. You know it did for a second, probably for half a day it kept trying to feed me news feeds but I kept deleting them or I made sure I took the extra time out to say that I was not interested. So right now my YouTube feed is a happy place to be. You know you can't control what others do or say, but you can definitely control what you expose yourself to and who or what you let into your bubble. So the challenge for this week or this year basically dispose of the negative and try to begin a habit of controlling exposure constantly and consistently purge if you feel the need, and if people become angry at you for removing them from your life, it's a them problem. You owe no one an explanation.
Speaker 1When it comes to self-improvement, I have a few awesome ideas that I'm hoping to be able to share with you in the coming month or two looking to expand some more platforms, platforms of the visual nature. I'm trying to take into consideration different ways to reach and connect with everyone. Uh, definitely looking forward to taking and sharing this uh journey with you guys, and you know, working two jobs makes this a tad bit on the challenging side, but definitely a fun challenge that I do not plan on turning away from anytime soon. Having too much fun. Lastly, I want to give a huge thanks to those that have encouraged and supported me. I can't thank you guys enough for the positive insights, constructive criticisms and attaboys. This means a lot and it keeps me energized to ensure that I continue this endeavor. So big shout outs to Austin Jen, josh, reed, jc, andy, Eric, danielle, benita, denver, our Waynesboro family, chad, melissa, anthony, angela, my family and the great power above that has afforded me the opportunity to live and learn with life that I've been granted. If there's anyone that I forgot, I thank you as well. Much love to all of you for the support.
