Regrets often get a bad rap, but what if they could be your greatest teachers? This week on Leo's Liberation, we explore how regrets, typically seen as burdens, can actually fuel personal growth and self-awareness. Through my own experiences of grappling with sleep deprivation and the struggle to carve out personal time from work, I illustrate how confronting these regrets head-on can lead to essential character development. As we age, these reflections help mold us into stronger, more emotionally aware individuals with the courage to pursue positive change. Let's face it—learning from our past missteps might just be the secret ingredient to a more fulfilling life.

never regret yesterday. Life is in you today and you make your tomorrow. That is ron l hubbard, and I can't believe I just quoted him, but nevertheless he was a fairly interesting person. But I just thought this. I thought this would be a nice way to go into the weekend and you know, we are wrapping up our week of regrets. Regrets are viewed as negative, but I see the positive in making unfortunate decisions in life and you know, aging is just a beautiful process, ladies and gentlemen, and that's that's. Regrets are part of the aging process.
Speaker 1I'm Dre and this is our Friday episode of Leo's Liberation Happy Friday. We have made it yet again through another week and I'm not sure about some of you, but my week I'm definitely regretting not getting sleep. I'm so regretting that right now, but it's been a week for sure and I'll confess, like many of you in the world, I'm not perfect. I failed the challenge of taking my time back from work this week and I'll admit, work got the best of me this week and it'll be a very small regret of mine. But hey, admit, work out the best of me this weekend. It'll be a very small regret of mine, but hey, my job is to help people. So I'm always looking for ways to, you know, improve what I do at work so that way I can help people a little bit better. But yeah, I did miss out on sleep, I missed out on fitness and I actually just missed out on the simple pleasure of you know that me time. That's kind of actually what I look for for to each day, or at least at the end of the day, and I don't care if it's sitting in front of the TV playing video games for two hours until I pass out. That's me time, I enjoy it. So the challenges presented each week are just a way for us to take those baby steps to grow together. Um, you know, and if life knocks you in your ass, so be it, get up, try again, and you know that's what I've heard at, at least, I guess. But you know, life can be rough, basically. So it's real and it happens. I understand that, you understand that. But, like I say, these are just ways for us to kind of move forward together and grow together this year and hopefully from here on.
Speaker 1So, closing out our week of regrets, we always like to go into the weekend with a positive focus. So regrets have a more. I think they have more pros and cons, honestly, um, and I think I've may have mentioned some of them either on Monday or Wednesday, but in most cases, you know, we wouldn't be who we are without regrets. Regrets build character, um, but you know, some of the obvious positive positives of, uh, experiencing regret can be, uh, you know, learning from your mistakes, and these are very simple. Yet again, I don't get too scientific, I keep things light and simple.
Speaker 1Here, folks, it's early in the morning or the end of your day. Some of us don't want to process things or over process things or overanalyze. So, yeah, learning from your mistakes, you know, probably the most important one, most likely the one thing that has allowed our species to make it as far as we have. But you know, I don't know if you ever watched Datelines or the Catcher Predator, einstein, to catch a predator. Apparently, those Idges never learn from their mistakes and it's kind of Scary and gross all in the same Breath. But that's a different show, you know. But what is the definition of insanity and Albert Einstein actually said it best Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. And I think that was actually in reference To quantum physics but or quantum mechanics, but nonetheless it applies To life and that's what I like about it. I imagine you're not going to. You know, learn much living life this way. But you know, when I say not learn much by living life this way, I'm talking about just basically trying the same thing over and over again and hoping it comes out with a different result. You're not going to learn much in life, but you know, give it a try and let me know how it works out for you. If you continuously do the same thing every day, or continuously make the same mistakes, and you're hoping that, uh, you know things are going to work out, I'm curious to see, uh, or to understand the process behind that.
Speaker 1Also, increased self-awareness. I pride myself on self-awareness these days. I regret not being as focused in this area in the past, but then again, I wouldn't have lived the life the way I did and I wouldn't have had the experience and I wouldn't have learned about the world, I wouldn't have learned about people and, more importantly, I would not have learned anything about myself. So experiences have taught me to be more emotionally aware, a little bit socially conservative, you know, basically in how I present myself, talk with people, things like that, because you know it's not just me in this world and in some settings. In some settings I'm basically socially conservative, and others, if I'm comfortable with you, yeah, I'm going to be socially conservative still because you know I'm empathetic, but I'm probably going to be a little bit more lax with the way I'm communicating with you. But one of the most important things, I think actually, with self-awareness, I'm actually very comfortable in my own stillness. I enjoy that a lot. That actually brings me a lot of peace.
Speaker 1You know, pursuit of change is another one. Regrets, boy, I'll tell you what regrets will actually make you get up and be like I'm not letting this happen anymore. I'm changing this now. Uh, you know, changes of path, change can be powerful in the sense that, um, you know it has something to do with everything that we experience. It makes us better.
Speaker 1Um, I think we've all been there, you know, sitting in thought and wondering what we could have done better. And there's my phone. I forgot to silence it before the show and hopefully you didn't pick that up. But you know, like I was saying, change is basically it's here. And you know we've been sitting there once, once in our lifetime where we have been thinking and wondering what we could have done better and then all of a sudden you have that infinite, infamous epiphany at you know 217 in the morning, and then you know you start making choices to make major changes. And that's when this thing usually happens and you think about dropping those toxic individuals from your life or putting the bottle down, or checking into rehab or learning to plan better, or just being more adventurous and spontaneous and not planning so much. So change can actually.
Speaker 1I think change is one of the things that makes us better. Change is pretty much all about it. That's all about the growing process, right, and, aside from self-awareness, the experience makes you mentally and emotionally stronger as an individual. So, like I say, the pros, I think, definitely outweigh the cons, at least in hindsight. In the moment they probably don't, but in hindsight, yeah, they actually do outweigh the cons.
Speaker 1Um, finally, there is the great appreciation for living in the now. Uh, remember, we can control the future, or, I'm sorry, we can't. We can't control the future and we can't change the past. We can only influence what's about to happen, and that's by a very small margin, um, for you know, basically a positive impact and learn from what's already been done. That's all we can do with that, um, so take it and run with it and do the best you can. Um, that's all we can do with that. So take it and run with it and do the best you can. Don't fret if things don't turn out the way that you plan them to Just kind of go with the flow. As long as it's not life threatening or something like that, just go with the flow and see what happens. It's all happening the way it does for a reason.
Speaker 1In my book Overall, you know, as a person, you grow and you make decisions that are better for you and those that you allow inside your bubble. So one thing that I found is a common, a common do not in reference to regrets is don't avoid them, don't, don't avoid making mistakes and I think that sounds kind of weird to say, but everybody makes mistakes. So you know, don't, I guess, in a sense, try to be that perfectionist to where you don't make mistakes, because we all make mistakes and you know they. Yet again, you know they kind of make us grow and growth is beautiful.
Speaker 1So keeping it short for you guys today, so you can get to your weekend or get your day started. I'm seriously hoping everybody has a great Friday. The weather's kind of cleared up just a tad bit. It's not, you know, freezing balls outside, so hopefully you can. Uh, I think today's actually probably going to feel like a Friday, so I hope you guys enjoy it.
Speaker 1Uh, but no challenges this weekend. I um kind of worked on this last night and my brain is fried after this week, but I need to take a break and just relax, um, just like many of you do. So no challenges this weekend. Uh, I think just keep working on what we've been talking about up until this point and relax. How about that be the challenge? Just actually unplug and relax, forget everything. Let the kids run, run, run, run um, you know, run crazy in the house. Just turn it off for a second, even if it's only five minutes. But, you know, give yourself that time and, and you know, just sit in stillness and just relax, let your mind rest, let it recover.
