Welcome, Boomer listeners. I'm Peggy Sweet, and this is Belonging in the Bluffs, brought to you by the Iowa West Foundation. I'm joined in studio today with a new friend. His name is Jeff. He is the producer and one of the coordinators for the Green Space Jam over in Trainer. Welcome, Jeff.
SPEAKER_00Hi, Peggy. Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. I'm excited to hear about your event. It's nice to have you here. Um, this sounds like it's going to be a really fun event. You have been planning, you've got a couple of them throughout the summer, and you received a grant to beautify trainer and other things, and part of the money is going to the arts.
SPEAKER_00That's right. Yeah, it's called the the Green Space Jam. And it's an idea that we had uh about a year ago, and we spent uh the better part of six months formulating the idea and trying to uh get grant money and other funds to help put this together. And so we have three events. Uh, the first one was back in June. We had Jazz Night with uh a group called the Cocktail Jazz Trio and the Matt Wallace Quartet. And then this month, coming in July, is uh a rock night, and we have the great band out of Omaha called High Heel.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Then in August, we're gonna be do Country Night, and we're still working on the band for that, but we should have those contracts uh situated within the next week. So we'll get that announced as soon as that all that is all finalized.
SPEAKER_01Fantastic. And this is taking place on July 16th from 7 to 9 over on is 7 East Main Street.
SPEAKER_007 East Main Street, right next door to Trainer State Bank. Okay. And there we're simply known as the Green Space. It's not really an official park or anything, but everybody just calls it the Green Space, and that's where we got the name for the festival.
SPEAKER_01Perfect. Then you can bring your lawn chair or your blankets or whatever, and you're gonna have food trucks.
SPEAKER_00We'll be doing burgers and dogs, and then tweets, which is uh a little pastry shop that we have in town, a coffee shop also, and they'll be having uh pastries and and cookies and things like that.
SPEAKER_01Yum, my favorite.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01That's where I'll be. This is going to be a really fun event. It is a great way to spend your Thursday evening. And trainer's just a hop, skip, and a jump.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh trainer's only 10 miles from the Omaha metropolitan area, right on Highway 92, and the event is right on what Main Street and Highway 92 is Main Street in Trainer. So you just drive to Trainer and you're right there.
SPEAKER_01This is a great way to bring your community together, Jeff, and have an enjoyable evening that is free. You gotta love that. Yes. And I mean, who doesn't love a good band and music and a way to relax? And you mentioned hopefully a country band next month.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, on August 11th, we'll have a country night. We're still working on the uh the band that we're gonna organize for that. And uh, you know, there's nothing like live music. No. And uh, I've been a musician for 50 years, I taught music for 39 years, uh, and there's just nothing like it. You can listen to recordings to your blue in the face, but you don't really get the full impact of what live music really is all about until you're there. And so we hope that people will come out and enjoy the evening with us and uh support us in supporting live music.
SPEAKER_01Again, this is a family-friendly event. It is live music. There is no better way to spend your time than relaxing and enjoying uh music to your ears.
SPEAKER_00That's right, that's right. And high heel is a terrific band. They'll be playing music uh from the 80s, 90s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, excuse me. And uh Lisa Larson is just a terrific singer. She's the lead singer for that band.
SPEAKER_01So this month you can put your high heels on, and next month, when it's country, you can get your boots.
SPEAKER_00Bring your boots.
SPEAKER_01You can wear heels on those as well if you like. But we'll kick it up with country next month. That's right. And again, trainer is very close, so this is just another reason to live and love Council Bluffs. All right, Jeff, I'll have you back and we'll talk about country next month.
SPEAKER_00I look forward to it. Thank you, Peggy.
