Welcome, Boomer listeners. I'm Peggy Sweet and this is Belonging in the Bluffs, brought to you by the Iowa West Foundation. I'm joined in studio once again today with my good friend Jackie. She is the education director for the Rose Theater. Welcome, Jackie. Thanks for having me again. It's great to have you back. I know you've got lots of things happening over at The Rose, including classes coming up.
SPEAKER_01Yes, registration for our school year classes is open now. And we hope families will come check us out. We have classes for ages two to 18. Everything from an introduction to musical theater that they can take with their mom to an intensive for our teenagers. And those will start in the beginning of September, but we encourage folks to register now because we will start selling out.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So get registered and we can do that at rose theater.org.
SPEAKER_01And that's theater spelled with an E R at the end.
SPEAKER_00And if you missed that, that is the rosetheater.org with E-R, not R E. And your website is filled with just a ton of information and you really break things down. You can search by age or your young person's interest.
SPEAKER_01And we have classes really on a wide variety of topics, everything from a musical theater class themed around K-pop demon hunters or Matilda to focus on ballet or tap. Whatever your child's interested in, we probably have something for them at the Rose. The other really great thing is that we provide both scholarships and financial aid. So families can find out more about that on our website as well. And we really hope that everyone will join us and won't see cost as any sort of barrier because it doesn't need to be.
SPEAKER_00And again, that is the rose theater.org with theater spelled ER.
SPEAKER_01Yes, that is correct.
SPEAKER_00Okay. So classes are going to be, yeah, I can't believe we're talking about this, you know, and it's still warm outside, but clap fall will be here before we know it. And if you want to participate, you need to get over to your website right now and get registered.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Yes, we encourage folks to go check it out now because that'll allow your kid to pick their favorite title before it's all filled up. And those classes, they range from meeting once a week to ones that meet for multiple weeks in a row and put up a full show. This year we're doing Annie and Music Man. Our weekly musical theater and dance classes also get a really cool opportunity to perform in our historic Rose Theater. We're celebrating our hundredth birthday this year, and our theater has 900 seats in it. And these young people get to get up and perform on that historic stage for their showcase at the end of the year. For the students who may not be a stand on stage in front of everyone young person, we also have art of theater design classes where they learn about the design process for costumes, props, makeup, set, and then get to create them in the class. So we're also opening the door for students who want to be involved in theater behind the scenes as well.
SPEAKER_00That's amazing. Because everybody knows and wants to be the actor on stage or whatever, but people don't necessarily think about all the things that go on behind the scenes to make that actual event happen.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and the backstage work, the design work, the technical work is a big part of the magic, and we want to let students in on that as well.
SPEAKER_00There are just so many opportunities at the Rose Theater. I I love how close you are to us. It is just another reason to live and love Council Bluffs. Jackie, thank you so much for stopping by. I appreciate all the information, the updates, and make sure we will get our kiddos registered for your classes. Please do. We can't wait to see you. Again, head over to therose theater.org. Again, that is theater E R, not R E. It's E R, and we will see you there. This has been Belonging in the Bluffs, brought to you by the Iowa West Foundation.
