Welcome, Boomer listeners. I'm Peggy Sweet and this is Belonging in the Bluffs, brought to you by the Iowa West Foundation. I'm joined in studio once again with my good friend Ennis. He is the CEO of Lawrence and Gardens. Welcome, Ennis. How are you today? Doing great. Thank you. You're welcome. It's great to have you back. You know I love music. You're here to talk about your concert series at the Oasis. So let's just jump into it. Where would you like to start?
SPEAKER_00
So we could start with our concert on the 15th, Love Town. Ooh, they're a great band. And we also have Taxi Driver that follows that group on July 29th. Okay.
SPEAKER_01
Great, great bands for our boomer listeners, definitely. And who else is coming this season?
SPEAKER_00
So we've had back for the last couple of years, and this concert historically always sells out. We have on August 26th, Women of Rock.
SPEAKER_01
Oh, that will be a really good one, too. You got some an amazing lineup. How did you get all of these great artists?
SPEAKER_00
One phone call at a time.
SPEAKER_01
Okay. Fair enough. Uh and no bribes of chocolate cake, is there?
SPEAKER_00
Not yet.
SPEAKER_01
Not yet. Not today. You haven't used the chocolate cake yet, but you're willing to use it? Maybe the ice cream. Okay. Oh, the ice cream. Okay. We can use some chocolate ice cream. You also have a special concert on August 12th. Tell me about that.
SPEAKER_00
Yes, so that's our member exclusive concert, and it'll be Heartland Boogie Band.
SPEAKER_01
Okay. And if you have a membership, you can go to this. And if you don't, you need to go get a membership so you can go, right?
SPEAKER_00
Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01
And the Oasis is a beautiful outdoor amphitheater. You guys have done an incredible job on building that. It's lovely. I love it. And you have food and beverages out there too.
SPEAKER_00
Yes, we do. A new food menu that's different than our cafe menu, but also drinks as well. Okay.
SPEAKER_01
So there is nothing better than live music, maybe a little chocolate ice cream, and a nice uh adult beverage or a soda or water, whatever it is that you like, and just listening and relaxing to some live music. I love that. You guys have made you've checked all the boxes this summer. We're trying one day at a time. And then this season runs into the fall, right? You have extended it this year.
SPEAKER_00
Yes. So our last concert will be October 21st, and it'll be Heidi Henry. Okay. Oh, she's amazing too. Quite the lineup.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah, it is. I'm surprised you didn't need chocolate ice cream for her. So, with a membership, you're able to go to the members-only date on August 12th, but so many other things with a membership because Lawrence and Gardens is always changing. Tell me a little bit about what a membership can mean to a family.
SPEAKER_00
So it just means that you can come and enjoy all the seasons in nature, you know, and see a lot of different uh beautiful plant material all throughout the garden and the conservatory.
SPEAKER_01
Your membership also includes the beautiful Sophia's playgarden that kids absolutely just can't get enough of. I mean, I did see a couple of adults. I won't tell on them that were uh up in some of the houses as well, but it is incredible.
SPEAKER_00
Yeah, we're really excited to see the diversity, but also all of the families and the kids that are just playing and having a good time, but they're also kicking, screaming, and crying when they're leaving.
SPEAKER_01
Yeah. Oh, there's so much to do at Lawrence and Gardens. Again, you need to get your membership. Um, they make great gifts, and you can get those either in person or online at Lawrenceandgards.org.
SPEAKER_00
Yes.
SPEAKER_01
Having this beautiful garden is just another reason to live and love Council Bluffs. And SLC at one of the concerts here real soon. Thanks so much. Thank you. This has been Belonging in the Bluffs, brought to you by the Iowa West Foundation.
