Welcome boomer listeners. I'm Peggy Sweet and this is Belonging in the Bluffs, brought to you by the Iowa West Foundation. I'm joined in studio with a new friend, and you know how I love to make new friends. His name is Jeff Hutchinson, and he is the event coordinator for this weekend's annual Flight Breakfast Pancake Feed. Welcome, Jeff. First of all.
SPEAKER_00I'm happy to be here.
SPEAKER_01It's great to have you, and you have a pretty cool event happening this weekend. It involves a pancake man, it involves the museum, it involves lots of things. So where would you like to start?
SPEAKER_00Well, let's just start by inviting everybody out to Councilbus Airport Saturday morning to see the Pancake Man. We're going to start serving pancakes at 8. He'll serve through noon. This is our about 30th annual flight breakfast pancake feed open house at the Council Bus Airport. And it's sponsored by and hosted by the Great Plains Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.
SPEAKER_01Something on your flyer that I don't know that I've ever seen is it says drive in all day open house, but it also says fly in. That's not something that we get to usually see. I love that. You can fly in or drive in.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. We would love to have people fly in. It's an aviation-themed event, has been for 30-some years, and obviously the Great Plains Wing of the Commander of Air Force is an aviation organization. So we absolutely encourage people to fly in. And depending on the weather and depending on what other activities there are going on on Saturday, we could get anywhere from a half dozen to 20 or 30 airplanes fly in.
SPEAKER_01Very cool. It is uh at the Council Bluffs Airport. As a matter of fact, if you don't know the address, it is 16803 McCannless Road.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. Second building on the property, and you won't miss it.
SPEAKER_01All right. And you also have a museum there that will be open. Uh admission there is free. Do you have a website that we can go get all this information at?
SPEAKER_00gpwcaf.org.
SPEAKER_01GPWCAF.org.
SPEAKER_00Correct.
SPEAKER_01Okay. And again, it is the Pancake Man happening this weekend from 8 to 12, as well as all of this great history out there.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. Come out and see us. We've got two aircraft that flown and maintained by the Great Plains Wing at the CAF. We've got the PT-19, which we are selling rides in. It's a two-seat open cockpit airplane. And we're doing a ground up restoration on a 1946 AirCoup. So if you want to see how a really old airplane is put together, it's a good opportunity to do that.
SPEAKER_01And I just want people to also know that the museum, if you're not able to make it out to the Pancake Man this weekend, you have it open Wednesday, 10 to 7, Saturday, 8 to 2. And also, if someone wants to come see it, they can make an appointment with you.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. Buy appointment. Uh call a stop by. We'll be happy to have somebody come out and open the museum for any organization or any individual that wants to come out and see us.
SPEAKER_01So it'd be great to get your group together and come out and check everything out. It'd be a great outing.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. It happens quite a bit.
SPEAKER_01Is the museum open year-round or is it just certain seasonal?
SPEAKER_00We're open year-round. Okay. Rarely on a weekend is somebody not there on a Saturday. Holiday weekends may be questionable, but we're happy to accommodate pretty much anyone's schedule.
SPEAKER_01And if you would like to get in touch with Jeff or the organization, you can call 712-322-2435. Again, 712-322-2435. Just leave a message and they will be able to accommodate you with that. But what I want to encourage you to do right now, most of all, is to make sure you join them out at the Council Bluffs Airport. This Saturday, it is a fly and drive-in all day open house with the Pancake Man. And that starts at 8 and runs until 12. And really quick, I think there is also a helicopter that people can take a quick gander at, right?
SPEAKER_00Children's Hospital's medical helicopter is now based at Council Bluffs Airport, and they plan on bringing it over and putting it in front of our hangar for people to look at.
SPEAKER_01Awesome. Well, Jeff, I will see you out at the airport and you come back and see me real soon and we'll talk some more about it.
SPEAKER_00Looking forward to it. Thank you very much.
