Welcome, Boomer listeners. I'm Peggy Sweet and this is Belonging in the Bluffs, brought to you by the Iowa West Foundation. I'm joined in studio once again today with my really good friend Danny Meyer. She is the vice president of artistic administration for the Omaha Symphony. Welcome, Danny. Thank you, Peggy. Thanks for having me. It's great to have you back. I know that you're on a little bit of a break right now, but things are gonna kick up here pretty quick.
SPEAKER_00I would say they're going to heat up, but I don't think we need any more of that. But no. We got about a nice month and a half to just enjoy the summer along with everybody else. And then in mid-September, we come roaring back with all the concerts that you know and love, including some ones that you may not have been aware of. So we're super excited to get back to work in September. Okay, but we have a pre-sale, don't we?
SPEAKER_01Oh, we do. Because if we were gonna be kicking things off in September, we've got to have tickets. People like to plan ahead. I know I do.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Great. So if you aren't sure that you want to buy a whole series or a whole subscription, our single tickets go on sale on August 3rd. And that's to everything. So if you love Cody Fry, if you like the music of John Williams, if you're a Beethoven 9 fan, if you're a Gershwin person, we have something for everyone. If you love Joni Mitchell, if you love Motown, we have literally a concert for everyone. And so on August 3rd, you can pick that very special concert to give us a shot at.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, try it before you buy it, but why wouldn't you buy it?
SPEAKER_00I I don't know why you wouldn't buy it. I mean, we have the Muppet Christmas character. I know! I the greatest Christmas movie of all time. I will not be accepting arguments. We have the original Wizard of Oz. We have Pet Rock. Everybody loves the smooth 70s with Pet Rock. And they are going to be with us in October. We have the music of the Eagles. We have our awesome series at the Jocelyn Art Museum. And so that's a twofer. If you've never experienced the Jocelyn, which is one of the most gorgeous art museums in the area, and you haven't experienced the chamber orchestra music and really awesome classical music in a more intimate setting, this is the series to try out. So tell me a little bit more about the Jocelyn, really quick. Okay, so you go on a Sunday afternoon, the parking is free. What a concept in downtown Omaha. You can have lunch in the museum cafe, you can explore the exhibits, and then right at two o'clock, you go into the Witherspoon concert hall, this really lush art deco space, and on stage the orchestra is performing both some of the greatest masterpieces that could be familiar to you and some really cool gems that you'll never have heard before.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness, I had no idea. It's really the best. And we can buy a single ticket to that. You can starting August 3rd. August 3rd. That is incredible. And then I just had another thought. So while you're getting your tickets for just if you're trying it out, you need to take a guest or you could buy it for a gift.
SPEAKER_00As a gift, and if you have nine friends, Peggy, or more than nine friends, and you want to go as a group, we also have group tickets and there are no fees when you buy as a group. So if you and nine of your closest friends, families, and enemies want to come to see the Omaha Symphony and concert, you can buy group tickets at a discount and have a wonderful, jolly collective experience. And you know what, Peggy? Even before the Symphony Jocelyn's and the Masterworks and the movies and the Beethoven Nines, you need to come see us on Friday, September 18th at the Jean Leahy Mall for sounds of the city. It's the way we kick off our seasons. It's a free concert. Bring your picnics, bring your blankets, bring your lawn chairs. Um, because it's not just us, it's all of the great community partners that make Omaha so awesome and so much fun together in concert. It's a great way to kick off the season.
SPEAKER_01That is right before the first day of fall. So it sounds like it's going to be the perfect time for everybody in the Omaha Council Bluffs metro area to get out and celebrate uh the end of summer.

SPEAKER_01Absolutely. I love living here. The Omaha Symphony is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. And that is just another reason to live and love Council Bluffs.
