Speaker 2:Well, hello there. My name is Cheryl and you're listening to Healing Strong's. Around the Word. We are a bunch of friends sitting around a table who love God and we love digging deep into His Word. Each day I will read a Bible passage and then we'll chat about what we're learning from it. I'll be reading Genesis 39, verses 1-6, from the NIV version of the Bible. So join us Around the Word Genesis 39, 1-6.
Speaker 2:Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh's officials. The captain of the guard bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph.
Speaker 2:The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph's care With Joseph in charge. He did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. In charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. That was our Bible reading for today. So now let's listen in on what we're talking about. That's Susie, angie Maren and myself around the word.
Speaker 1:I noticed in verse three that you just read, potiphar noticed that everything Joseph did was successful. He noticed that and he realized that the Lord was with Joseph in a very special way. Now, potiphar was an Egyptian. There's no reason to believe that he knew anything about the one true God. In fact, to the contrary, they had many gods and they worshiped them on a daily basis. So it made me think of you know, it's people of all walks of life that can watch you in your walk, the way you carry yourself at work. I mean, joseph was just going about his job and this Egyptian, a very powerful Egyptian, noticed that he had favor. Powerful Egyptian noticed that he had favor. And that just reminds me that, even though my daily job, it may be not in a ministry per se, but there are unbelievers as well as believers watching me, what I do and how I carry out myself, and this leads me to believe that people outside of the faith can tell there's something about you.
Speaker 3:Along with that, angie, I think about Jacob also and Jacob's life. And when Jacob was working for Laban, laban saw that the work of Jacob prospered, laban, and so Laban wanted Jacob to be a part of his life because of the favor of the Lord that was on him. And you think about us as believers. No matter where we are, bloom where we're planted, you know, shine the Lord wherever we are, because he lives in us and people will see that. They can't not see it because the Holy Spirit lives in us when we've given our life to Christ.
Speaker 4:Potiphar did not have to worry about a thing. I loved how they said that he didn't have to worry about a thing, only what he had to Christ Potiphar did not have to worry about a thing. I loved how they said that he didn't have to worry about a thing, only what he had to eat. He didn't worry about his household he didn't worry about. He knew that Joseph was being blessed and that he wasn't going to lie and cheat and steal. He trusted him.
Speaker 2:And think too joseph's a hebrew slave that comes into this household when he's like what? 17 years old or something. He doesn't know egyptian, he's got to learn all this stuff. He doesn't know their culture, he doesn't know their food, none of that. So in this course of time and we don't know how long he was at Potiphar's house working for him, but he worked his way up, obviously to get more responsibility each time. I mean talk about a rags to riches kind of story he just got to where he was and did a good job and the favor of the Lord was on him and the scripture tells us that the favor will be on you.
Speaker 1:Scripture tells us that the favor will be on you. If you do what the Word says for you to do and you live out a life like the Word tells us to do, you will have favor and others will notice it, and that's powerful.
Speaker 2:That's your walking testimony. I think so many times with people that are healing from like cancer or anything. Boy, it's almost like they have a megaphone at that point, because people are watching them even closer to see how they're handling that at that point and you've got an amazing opportunity to share what the Lord is doing for you and through you in your greatest time of need. Well, that's it for our discussion today. Thanks for joining us for Healing Strong's Around the Word podcast. We hope that you are encouraged to dig deeper into God's Word.
