HealingStrong Episode 8

We explore the powerful story of Joseph's sudden transition from prison to palace after two long years of waiting, highlighting how God's timing is perfect even when it seems delayed or arbitrary.

This quick episode covers:

• Divine promptings matter—the cupbearer's simple act of remembering Joseph changed history
• Sometimes God is waiting for someone else or circumstances to align, not just working in us
• God works in the dark when we cannot see what He's doing
• Joseph's "suddenly" came quickly after years of waiting—our breakthroughs can happen instantly too
• Joseph's story reminds us that no waiting period is wasted in God's economy

Speaker 1:

We never know. When the Lord prompts us and reminds us to do even the tiniest act, it may be something very, very important in somebody else's life.

Speaker 2:

Well, hello there. My name is Cheryl and you are listening to Healing Strong's Around the Word. We are friends sitting around a table who love God and we love digging deep into His Word. Each day I'll read a Bible passage and then you'll hear us discussing what we learned from it. I'll be reading Genesis, chapter 41, verses 1 through 14, psalm 40, verse 2, and Isaiah 60, verse 22,. All from the NIV version of the Bible. So join us Around the Word. Genesis 41, 1-14.

Speaker 2:

When two full years had passed, pharaoh had a dream. He was standing by the Nile when out of the river there came up seven cows, sleek and fat, and they grazed among the reeds. After them, seven other cows, ugly and gaunt, came up out of the Nile and stood beside those on the riverbank, and the cows that were ugly and gaunt ate up the seven sleek, fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up. He fell asleep again and had a second dream. Seven heads of grain, healthy and good, were growing on a single stalk. After them, seven other heads of grain sprouted thin and scorched by the east wind. The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy, full heads. Then Pharaoh woke up.

Speaker 2:

It had been a dream In the morning. His mind was troubled. So he sent for all the magicians and wise men of Egypt. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no one could interpret them for him. Then the chief cupbearer said to Pharaoh Today I am reminded of my shortcomings.

Speaker 2:

Pharaoh was once angry with the servants and he imprisoned me and the chief baker in the house of the captain of the guard. Each of us had a dream the same night and each dream had a meaning of its own. Now a young Hebrew was there with us, a servant of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams and he interpreted them for us, giving each man the interpretation of his dream, interpreted them for us, giving each man the interpretation of his dream. And things turned out exactly as he interpreted them to us. I was restored to my position and the other man was impaled.

Speaker 2:

So Pharaoh sent for Joseph and he was quickly brought from the dungeon. When he had shaved and changed his clothes, he came before Pharaoh. And now Psalm 40, verse 2. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. And finally, isaiah 60, verse 22. The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest. And that was the reading of God's Word today. So now let's listen in on what Susie, angie Maren and myself were finding around the Word Two full years. Two full years is a very long time. God purposely waited.

Speaker 3:

Joseph wouldn't think that it was the cupbearer that freed him. God did that. So it's important for us to remember. You know, we're not leaning on that person to do something for us. God is the one that does it.

Speaker 1:

The point that I noticed reading it this time, that I've never noticed before, is maybe a cupbearer naturally forgot it, didn't mention it to the king, but the Lord may have reminded him of it. Like, sometimes he may be reminding us of something and sometimes he will put a thought in our head Go call so-and-so and encourage them, or send a text to so-and-so or send a card, and we need to act on that, just like the cupbearer did. I remember my shortcomings, but the Lord may have reminded him of it and then he acted upon it. Because we never know, when the Lord prompts us and reminds us to do even the tiniest act, it may be something very, very important in somebody else's life, and so I think there's a point there that we can, we can learn from. If you're prompted by the Lord, just go do it.

Speaker 2:

God had to get the Pharaoh ready to like in the circumstances. So God was not arbitrary in this wait. They had to wait for, um, even this, this good years of of plenty to happen, all that stuff it's sometimes it's it may be you that you're waiting on, but it may be somebody else or the situation that you're waiting on, that god's doing a work that you may not be able to see at this point, but he is still working in the dark when you can't see that.

Speaker 1:

We just have to trust in the sovereignty of God, and that's very difficult to do sometimes, particularly when it's taken longer than we thought it should take.

Speaker 2:

And I have to say one big thing that everybody must get excited about when they say the and he was quickly brought out from the dungeon. So for him it may have not felt like quickly all those years of waiting, but when God makes something happen, he can make it happen in an instant. Oh, I love today's passage and I love the. Suddenly that happened in Joseph's life. Aren't we all looking for that suddenly? We're all waiting for it and it will come. Be encouraged, it will come.
