HealingStrong's Around the Word

Episode 41 - The Jehoshaphat Series: Lessons from the Battle (Romans 6:23, John 3:16, Romans 10:10 NIV)

HealingStrong Episode 20

We wrap up our 20-day study of Jehoshaphat, exploring how this ancient king's story offers powerful lessons for modern believers facing their own battles. Throughout this journey, we've discovered timeless wisdom about turning immediately to God, preparing ourselves spiritually, and leading with humility—principles that transform our approach to life's challenges.

• Jehoshaphat consistently turned to God first whenever facing adversity
• Spiritual preparation is essential—just as Jehoshaphat fortified his nation, we must put on the armor of God
• Standing alone with God is sometimes necessary when leadership requires difficult choices
• Jehoshaphat modeled humble leadership that turned people toward God rather than himself
• Scripture transforms our perspective, reminding us that our battles belong to God

If you have realized through this podcast that you need Jesus as your personal Savior, then pray this prayer now:

Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe you died on the cross for my sins and you rose from the dead. I trust you as my Lord and Savior. Please help me to daily surrender my will in Jesus name, amen.

Speaker 1:

He's made lots of promises to us, thousands of promises to us in this book, and he's just waiting for us to take advantage of them, one by one.

Speaker 2:

Hello, my name is Cheryl and you're listening to Healing Strong's Around the Word. We're friends sitting around a table who love the Lord and we love digging deep into His Word. So each day you'll hear me reading a Bible passage and then you'll hear us chat about what we're learning from it. I'll be reading Romans 6, verse 23,. John 3 16, which many of you have probably heard of it, and Romans 10, verse 10. All from the NIV version of the Bible. So join us Around the Word.

Speaker 2:

Romans 6, verse 23. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord. John 3, 16. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. And finally, romans 10, verse 10,. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. That was our Bible reading for today. So now let's listen in on the discussion that Angie, jeff, susie and myself had around the word. We're at our last day. It's day 20, our last day with the Jehoshaphat study, and it's flown by, and I just wanna thank you for being a listener and writing it out to the very end. I hope you felt like you were sitting at the table with us, so I'm going to go around the table right now and ask everybody what did you get out of Jehoshaphat's story? What was your big takeaway?

Speaker 3:

I think for myself, it was how quickly he turned to the Lord. Anytime he faced adversity, he would turn to the Lord. Time he faced adversity, he would turn to the Lord. He also saw the importance of fortifying his nation, his country. So in a spiritual sense, we need to fortify ourselves, like we discussed the other day about the armor of God going out, being prepared, knowing that an all-knowing God knows what we will face during that day. If we are prepared, we will be able to walk successfully with Him through whatever a day may bring.

Speaker 2:

How about you, Susie?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I agree with Jeff. I'm just so grateful that God has given us tools to make it through our daily battles. And I think one thing that stood out to me is that for being in a position of leadership, no matter what that is in your family, in your work, whatever you're always going to be faced with making choices. That you may feel like you want to walk with the rest of everyone else right, but you know that God is calling you to stand alone, and there's a verse in Proverbs 13, 20 that says walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm, and I think Jehoshaphat's story really reminds me personally that sometimes we're called to walk alone, but we do that with the Lord and we battle, we armor up with the, you know, with the armor of God, and that's what's going to help us get through it. So it's a really it was's what's going to help us get through it. So it was a really great study. I needed to hear this. It was really good.

Speaker 2:

I'll say for me real quick, my favorite takeaway was just the prayer. When he's in the thick of the battle and everything. He turned to God, like Jeff said. And then that amazing prayer I mean we could literally be praying that today over any circumstance that we have. Prayer I mean we could literally be praying that today with over any circumstance that we have and how he modeled amazing leadership for his people, a humble leader, was amazing to me. So I take that back in my job or with people that I'm with, if I've ever been put in a leadership role, to be a humble leader, one that seeks God in every single decision that I make and encourages others to also turn to Him, just like Jehoshaphat did for the people of Judah. Angie, what about you? What was your takeaway?

Speaker 1:

I guess it just reminds me once again how much is available to me in this book, in this book, how much this book can change my life, change my attitude, change my outlook, change my perspective, change my behavior.

Speaker 1:

It always does that. It's living and breathing and it transforms our lives and the bottom line is, the whole book is the story of redemption, putting us in right position, back with God, the Father, just as if we had never sinned. That's amazing to me, and so often I get far from the Word and when I do I'm fretful. I listen to the world, I listen to culture, I pay attention to all the awful things, but when I'm brought back to the word, I'm reminded this battle is not mine. This battle is my heavenly father's that flung the stars into the sky and knows them all by name, is there at my beck and call to handle every battle that I have. If I will just pray, believe, worship, praise Him and be thankful. He's made lots of promises to us, thousands of promises to us in this book, and he's just waiting for us to take advantage of them, one by one.

Speaker 2:

Well, everybody, we don't want to ever end a healing, strong Bible plan without telling you the best news possible, and that's about Jesus and that he died on the cross for your sin and my sin, for everybody. In fact, it says in Romans 3.23, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and then whosoever will? Whosoever will, yes.

Speaker 1:

All of us are in the same boat. Yes, and he made it all available to all of us, so whosoever will believe in.

Speaker 2:

Him, we'll have eternal life and, by the way, there's nothing that you can do. No good work is ever going to meet the holiness of a perfect God, but that's why he sent His Son to die for your sins and for mine, and all we have to do is ask for forgiveness of those sins. It's a free gift. Y'all. It's free. He did it for you and for me, and so I hope if you haven't made that decision before, in fact, we'll lead you in a prayer right now for anyone that wants to make that decision.

Speaker 3:

Absolutely and if you'll just repeat with us. Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe you died on the cross for my sins and you rose from the dead. I trust you as my Lord and Savior.

Speaker 2:

Please help me to daily surrender my will in jesus name, amen and if you prayed that prayer and you meant it, you believe it in your heart, you are a child of of god, and we just want to say welcome, welcome and um. Please tell somebody that good news, please tell somebody that good news.

Speaker 1:

Please tell someone that good news, and get connected to some other believers maybe a local church even, or a small group or something and get in the Word and it's amazing what can happen in your life.

Speaker 2:

What a great way to end the Jehoshaphat study. We're not ending our podcast, it's just the study, the Jehoshaphat study. We're not ending our podcast, it's just the study on Jehoshaphat. If you prayed that prayer of salvation, please let us know. We wanna hear from you about that. We wanna celebrate with you. Please email us at prayerrequestathealingstrongorg.

Speaker 2:

We have a wonderful team of volunteers from Healing Strong that pray for each person that sends us a prayer request. But specifically, if you have prayed that prayer of salvation, we want to hear from you so we can send you some next steps, like Angie talked about and I want to thank you for listening in all about Jehoshaphat. We have more of these kind of discussions around the word coming up on our podcast and it's my biggest hope that you will find yourself a group of friends, that you can sit around the table and get deep into God's word and discuss what you're learning for it. That's the biggest hope that we have that you will get in God's word. Hey, if you want to know more about us, healing Strong, just check out our website too healingstrongorg.
