Episode 65 - The Daniel Series: When Pressure Rises, Seek God First
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this episode, we dive into Daniel 2:1–18, where Daniel faces the impossible demand to reveal the king’s dream or face execution, showing how faith moves amid pressure by seeking God first. Connecting this crisis to modern challenges like health scares and job losses, we highlight how clarity begins in prayer, not panic, and how divine revelation surpasses human expertise.
Guided by Matthew 6:33, we learn to seek God’s kingdom first, trusting His timing and provision, which shapes our responses to urgent demands and uncertainties. We offer practical advice to ask for time, pray with others, and resist rushing decisions, reminding us that even when overwhelmed, God remains in control.

SPEAKER_00What you're saying is impossible. Nobody can do this. Oh, God loves to do that. Make it just as impossible as it can appear to be, and then boom.
Reading Daniel 2:1–18
Matthew 6:33 And Listener Story
Nebuchadnezzar’s Impossible Demand
SPEAKER_01Well, hi there. My name's Cheryl, and you're listening to Healing Strongs Around the Word. We are a group of friends that sit around the table and we just dive deep into God's Word and start talking about it. And we're so glad to have you joining us. We are still in the book of Daniel, and this is where it's going to get super interesting right now because the king's gonna have a dream, and well, you're just gonna have to find out what happens. So we're gonna start reading from the book of Daniel, chapter 2, verses 1 through 18 today, and then bonus reading from Matthew chapter 6, verse 33. So join us around the Word. Daniel chapter 2, verses 1 through 18. In the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams. His mind was troubled, and he could not sleep. So the king summoned the magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. When they came in and stood before the king, he said to them, I have had a dream that troubles me, and I want to know what it means. Then the astrologers answered the king, May the king live forever. Tell your servants the dream, and we will interpret it. The king replied to the astrologers, This is what I have firmly decided. If you do not tell me what my dream was and interpret it, I will have you cut into pieces and your houses turned into piles of rubble. But if you tell me the dream and explain it, you will receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. So tell me the dream and interpret it for me. Once more they replied, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will interpret it. Then the king answered, I am certain that you are trying to gain time, because you realize that this is what I have firmly decided. If you do not tell me the dream, there is only one penalty for you. You have conspired to tell me misleading and wicked things, hoping the situation will change. So then tell me the dream, and I will know that you can interpret it for me. The astrologers answered the king. There is no one on earth who can do what the king asked. No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer. What the king asked is too difficult. No one can reveal it to the king except the gods, and they do not live among humans. This made the king so angry and furious that he ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon. So the decree was issued to put the wise men to death, and men were sent to look for Daniel and his friends to put them to death. When Ariak, the commander of the king's guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact. He asked the king's officer, Why did the king issue such a harsh decree? Ariak then explained the matter to Daniel. At this, Daniel went in to the king and asked for time, so that he might interpret the dream for him. Then Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that he and his friends might not be executed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. And now Matthew 6, verse 33. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. That's today's scripture. Before we return, listen to the story from Lori in Memphis. Lori says, What a blessing in the first night jumpstart. Over the last year, since my diagnosis, Healing Strong has indeed been my community and medicine. And just for people that don't know, Healing Strong Jumpstart is an online event that we do every now and then through Healing Strong. Your support helps us make this kind of encouragement for people like Lori possible. Visit HealingStrong.org slash donate if you'd like to join us in that mission. And now let's get back around the word. What's going on here, ladies?
SPEAKER_02The king has had a dream. King Nebuchadnezzar has had a dream. And he doesn't just want the interpretation. He wants them, the wise men, to tell him what he dreamed.
SPEAKER_01So he's up in the ante. He's making it harder for everyone. He's not letting his normal officials tell him what they normally say all the time. There must have been something to this dream. And we actually will later on see it was an extremely prophetic dream. So I think he knew something was different. We won't go into the dream today. We have a whole day for that, but what do you see in the way the king is even handling the situation? What is he telling people at first?
The Setup In God’s Plan
SPEAKER_00I think the Lord, we see that the Lord's hand is in everything. The Lord works in the righteous and the unrighteous. I mean, he's working through this king to for the king to make the setup. The setup is somebody has got to even know what I dreamed. You know, let's see who's the wisest of you. Um, not only are you going to need to interpret my dream, you're going to have to tell me what the dream was in the first place. So, um, and the Lord put that in the king's mind. So, so that when the the time come to see who were the wisest young men, we'd be ready. I love that. I love the setup.
SPEAKER_01Because how many times is the problem actually the setup for something much bigger that God is doing? Had we not had the problem, then we would have never later on gotten to where God wanted us to be. Seen the glory of God. Yes. Actually, seen his glory. I know two examples uh in my personal life of friends that had a bad situation happen at work uh where they got fired or something. Um, and God then led them to a job I it was at least 10 times better, like in pay and everything.
SPEAKER_00But they would have never gotten that had that not happened. So we have to recognize though, in that situation, the Lord could have caused that person to fire your friend. You see that? Right. Yeah. So it's all part of the plan, and that's where Romans 8.28 comes into play. If if we believe what the word says, all things work to the good for those who are love the Lord and call according to his purpose. So when we're in the throes of it, though, and bad things are happening to us right and left, uh, it's hard to hear the voice of the Lord saying this, but we've got to be reminded of it. All things work together. So the Lord here telling this king, I want you to do this. You know, he gave the king the idea for the whole setup, and the setup leads into Oh, it leads into uh our our our guys, like the threat of execution.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um so he up again, he up the any. Oh, you're not gonna tell me what this is. Yeah, of like, you're gonna we're gonna kill all you guys then. You're kind of not needed.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So um Well, and the and the other guys are saying, the other wise men are saying, nobody can do this. What you're saying is impossible. Nobody can do this.
Pressure, Wisdom, And Asking For Time
SPEAKER_00Oh, God loves to do that, make it just as impossible as it can appear to be, and then boom.
SPEAKER_01I get so much from how Daniel handled the situation too, because how many times has someone tried to force you to make a decision quickly? You know, Daniel says, I'm gonna talk to the Lord about it. Well, yeah, he first asked for more time, and it says with wisdom and tact, too, because it didn't show that he got all up in arms. He didn't like, he wasn't rude to the official, right?
SPEAKER_02He wasn't acting scared like the other guys, the other wise men. And I love what you wrote in the all caps in the devotion. Do not act before seeking God. He went to God. He asked his friends to pray with me.
SPEAKER_00What's that lovely verse from Matthew that we like to quote? Oh, Matthew 633, seek first the kingdom of God. Seek when? First, the kingdom of God. Does that verse say in any particular area and not in other particular areas? No, it says whatever it is, seek God first, and then what happens? He'll supply all your needs. He'll take care of everything else, basically. According to his riches and glories.
SPEAKER_01That's pretty much some riches.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's pretty rich.
Seek God First In High Stakes
Closing And Resources
SPEAKER_01Bottom line, seek God in everything. From the smallest little detail, nothing is too small for God in your life. And it's usually the small things that later become big things. It's when everything seems over your head, they're still under God's feet. That is a really great saying. I've never heard that one, but boy, that's very profound. And so true. It's so true. This whole passage is really good because I tend to be one of those people that if somebody comes at me, I feel like I got to make a decision like then, like boom. Um, and I would have been more like those, those uh soothsayers or those magician types that were advising the king, just trying to tell him what he needed to hear to buy time. And Daniel's smart. He's just asking, he literally goes and trusts God and he asks for more time. They were too, but Daniel had God's favor on him. I noticed that, that he asked for time and didn't say the king pushed back on him on that. He got more time to go back home and to pray with uh his friends about this, which we'll see that they'll discuss this all tomorrow. It's really good to not be pressured when somebody is coming at you wanting you to make a decision right then and there. Stop, bring it to God. Even if you have to pray right then and there, even after you if you have to stop the person, say, you know, I need to pray about this real quick, but always bring it first to God. Do not be pressured in a high-stakes situation uh without consulting God first. You always want to hear what he has to say first and then do it. Obey it, even if you don't understand it. And I promise you, you will feel uh his peace that comes over you because you know that you are doing his will in that situation. Thank you so much for joining us for Healing Strong's Around the Word podcast.
