In this episode, we explore Daniel 2:24–49, where Daniel calmly interprets Nebuchadnezzar’s vision of a statue made of layered metals, revealing the rise and fall of empires—Babylon’s gold, Medo-Persia’s silver, Greece’s bronze, Rome’s iron, and the fragile mixture that follows—and points to a lasting kingdom established by a divine stone uncut by human hands. This powerful message challenges us to see that what shines may not endure, while true strength comes from God’s eternal kingdom. We reflect on Daniel’s humility, integrity, and courage in navigating power without compromise, offering a model for faithful living in secular spaces. Alongside a listener’s insight on forgiveness and healing, the conversation provides practical encouragement to discern God’s leading, find peace in the midst of uncertainty, and invest in what truly lasts. God can use anybody in our life. He can use our boss. He can use our neighbor. He can use anyone in our life to speak to us. We just have to be aware where it's coming from.

The Statue, The Stone, The Kingdoms

SPEAKER_02

Well, hey everybody, this is Cheryl, and you're listening to Healing Strongs Around the Word. We are a group of friends that sit around the table and discuss God's Word, and we want you to sit in and listen in with us. Today we are studying from the book of Daniel, chapter 2, verses 24 through 49. So go ahead and join us around the Word. Daniel 2, verses 24 through 49. Then Daniel went to Ariok, whom the king had appointed to execute the wise men of Babylon, and said to him, Do not execute the wise men of Babylon. Take me to the king, and I will interpret his dream for him. Ariak took Daniel to the king at once and said, I have found a man among the exiles from Judah who can tell the king what his dream means. The king asked Daniel, also called Beltashazzar, Are you able to tell me what I saw in my dream and interpret it? Daniel replied, No wise man, enchanter, magician, or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about. But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries. He has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in days to come. Your dream and the visions that pass through your mind as you were lying in bed are these. As your majesty was lying there, your mind turned to things to come, and the revealer of mysteries showed you what is going to happen. As for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because I have greater wisdom than anyone else alive, but so that your majesty may know the interpretation and that you may understand what went through your mind. Your Majesty looked, and there before you stood a large statue, an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance. The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay. While you were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and smashed them. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were all broken to pieces and became like chaff on a threshing floor in the summer. The wind swept them away without leaving a trace. But the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth. This was the dream, and now we will interpret it to the king. Your Majesty, you are the King of Kings. The God of heaven has given you dominion and power and might and glory. In your hands he has placed all mankind in the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky. Wherever they live, he has made you ruler over them all. You are that head of gold. After you, another kingdom will arise, inferior to yours. Next, a third kingdom, one of bronze, will rule over the whole earth. Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron, for iron breaks and smashes everything, and as iron breaks things to pieces, so it will crush and break all the others. Just as you saw that the feet and toes were partly of baked clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom. Yet it will have some of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay. As the toes were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. And just as you saw the iron mixed with baked clay, so the people will be a mixture and will not remain united any more than iron mixes with clay. In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands, a rock that broke the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold to pieces. The great God has shown the king what will take place in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is trustworthy. Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell prostrate before Daniel and paid him honor, and ordered that an offering and incense be presented to him. The king said to Daniel, Surely your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery. Then the king placed Daniel in a high position and lavished many gifts on him. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon, and placed him in charge of all its wise men. Moreover, at Daniel's request, the king appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego administrators over the province of Babylon, while Daniel himself remained at the royal court. Before we move on, some of you might be wondering, who's behind this podcast? And if you don't know, we are Healing Strong, where a nonprofit community that connects, supports, and educates people facing cancer and other diseases by helping rebuild the body, renew the soul, and refresh the spirit. The impact of that mission really shines through in this note from Elizabeth, who shared something she learned from a Healing Strong jumpstart session. She says, one of my favorite takeaways from tonight is forgiveness heals the mind, and the mind heals the body. Whoa. Listen to that one more time. That's really good. Forgiveness heals the mind, and the mind heals the body. It's so powerful. We talk about again, it's not just your physical healing, but it's your emotional healing, it's your spiritual healing, it's all part of your healing. And it looks like Elizabeth uh found a really cool takeaway from that that we can all learn from. Anyway, I love that. I love that. Take that to heart. Again, forgiveness heals the mind, and the mind heals the body. Ooh, that's good. That's I hope you take that today. Let's get back to Around the Word. So today we get to actually see what the dream was that Nebuchadnezzar had. What's kind of a summary on this dream, real quick?

SPEAKER_00

A statue with a gold head, silver chest and arms, bronze belly and thighs, iron and clay, legs and feet.

SPEAKER_02

And um, big question, but what was kind of the the prophetic nature of this dream, really? It's talking about the future empires that are coming. And for whatever reason, God chose to let Nebuchadnezzar see it. Um He was the gold head. He was the gold head. And um, I also believe that this is going to play into our future story as well with our heroes, but we'll get to that another day. The silver is the Medo-Persian Empire, the bronze, the Greeks, and the iron and clay is our great Roman Empire that we study about so much. But what happened to all of those empires? Are they still around now?

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely not. Well, the big rock that was cut from not from human hands, it's right, right, comes down and destroys all of them. Oh, and uh, who is that rock, by the way? The rock.

Nebuchadnezzar’s Response And Promotions

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Yeah, the rock for foreshadowing of Jesus. So before he even starts uh describing the actual interpretation, what does Daniel say to the king?

SPEAKER_01

First of all, he acknowledges he shows great respect to the king and he he honor honors him in that way, but he flat out tells the king right up front, this is not something of my own. This is not something that any human can do. He gives all credit to the knowledge of this dream and the interpretation of this dream to his God in heaven. Very boldly, very confidently, no doubt about it.

SPEAKER_00

He is the revealer of mysteries. That's what he says. God in heaven, who reveals mysteries, he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the days to come.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Daniel was just saying, I'm the vessel. You know, he didn't want to take any credit for it. Um, I think that's a great attribute of Daniel. He's always just pointing back to God.

SPEAKER_02

He's reflecting God and what he's doing. He's he's not taking the credit for his own.

SPEAKER_00

And the funny thing is, he was actually giving Nebuchadnezzar a chance to see that as well, that God had given him the vision. He told him that he had given him the dream. And later we'll see that he doesn't actually uh remember that.

Healing Strong Mission And Testimony

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, people have studied these dreams. I think this isn't just a uh just a dream that was about those empires. There's more meaning that can be in this dream as well that's prophetic. But this is a whopper of a dream that had a lot of impact, uh, more than we see just in this passage right here.

SPEAKER_00

Well, your question too in the devotional was why do you think God allowed a pagan king to have a prophetic dream? And we had interesting conversations about this.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, why do you think, I mean, why did he allow that? Well, just like yesterday we were talking about, he uses everything. He uses all kinds of people and things. It's it's a setup for the end result.

SPEAKER_02

If Daniel had this dream by himself, um, unless he had written it down and we're studying about Daniel, uh, we might not have seen this. But this had no one would have listened. No, no one would have listened to Daniel. But this this had implications across an entire empire because the crazy king himself heard or saw this dream. Just like with Joseph and the king of Egypt having a dream that set up Joseph for success later on to interpret that dream. There's there's so many parallels between Daniel and Joseph. Um, it is very interesting.

SPEAKER_01

But I think to bring it to our everyday life, um, we as believers are amongst unbelievers all the time. And I think our influence and just the way we do things, the way we live our lives, uh, it's very impactful. It's very important to do that because we may be affecting non-believers in a way that is a part of somebody else's plan, a part of somebody else's setup. So, like we see Daniel and we like we saw Joseph, they stood on the word, they have had confidence in God, and um, as a result of their resolve and their confidence, many, many, many, many, many lives were changed for the good.

SPEAKER_00

And you pointed out it's important to be in his word so that we recognize if it's God's voice, where we're hearing this from. But God can use anybody in our life. He can use our boss, he can use our neighbor, he can use he can use anyone in our life to speak to us. We just have to be aware that where it's coming from.

Practical Takeaways On God’s Voice

SPEAKER_02

Uh, the other thing too, I noticed in this passage is that King Nebuchadnezzar, it's in verse 46, he falls prostrate before Daniel and paid Daniel honor. So I at first I was like, oh man, that's kind of cool. Uh Nebuchadnezzar had a God moment because he's saying, surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings. But then we're gonna see later on, he completely forgets all that. And so, in other words, I feel like people can have an encounter, but it doesn't quite click. You know, it doesn't, it doesn't quite click, or they go back to their way of thinking or whatever. As we'll see with Nebuchadnezzar, he's gonna have something even bigger that he sees that that's going to be life-changing for him. This was just the first step. Today's passage is a great example of God using somebody that wasn't even a believer to have a prophetic message to actually speak through them. And that can happen for you in your life too. God can speak to you in different ways. Shoot, if he can even speak through a donkey, uh, look that story up. That's the story of Balaam in the Old Testament. He can speak to anybody and he can get his message through to you. Thanks so much for joining us for Healing Strong's Around the Word podcast.
