Episode 68 - The Daniel Series: Peer Pressure and A Furnace
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this episode, we reflect on Daniel 3:1–7, where King Nebuchadnezzar’s decree and golden image demand submission amid intense pressure, mirroring modern struggles with public expectation and the urge to rush God’s timing. We explore the repeated pattern of forcing promises into reality—from former spectacles to personal shortcuts—and emphasize that true faith is active yet patient, trusting God’s sovereign timing rather than manufacturing outcomes. Practical guidance includes building a moral compass before pressure mounts, defining non-negotiables in quiet moments, and standing firm when culture or panic urges compromise. Featuring Christy’s powerful HealingStrong online Jumpstart event testimony, the conversation offers spiritual resilience, helps identify modern idols disguised as urgency, and encourages thoughtful preparation and hopeful patience, all supported by resources at HealingStrong.org. Rushing God’s Promises
SPEAKER_04How many people have done this kind of thing? They see, yeah, they see something, they think they they believe they they did get a promise or something from God, but it's not happening in the time frame that they expected. So I'm just So I'm just gonna go do it, make it happen, just like Abraham and uh Sarah. Abraham goes and sleeps with um Hagar to make that promise happen quicker than on God's timeline.

The King’s Image And Human Impulse
SPEAKER_04Well, hi, I'm Cheryl, and you're listening to Healing Strongs Around the Word. We're a group of friends that sit around the table and talk about God's word and all the treasures that are in it. And today is no exception. We are studying the book of Daniel, and this is where it all goes crazy in this part of the story. So we'll be talking about Daniel chapter 3, verses 1 through 7. So join us around the word. Daniel chapter 3, verses 1 through 7. King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, 60 cubits high and six cubits wide, and set it up on the plain of Durah in the province of Babylon. He then summoned the satraps, prefects, governors, advisors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the other provincial officials to come to the dedication of the image he had set up. So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the other provincial officials assembled for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before it. Then the herald loudly proclaimed, Nations and peoples of every language, this is what you are commanded to do. As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace. Therefore, as soon as they heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, and all kinds of music, all the nations and peoples of every language fell down and worshiped the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Before Angie Miren and I dive back around the word, I want to share a little about Healing Strong Jumpstart again for those that haven't heard it. It's a free online event designed to help people kick off or jumpstart their healing journey with practical guidance, emotional support, and spiritual encouragement, all focused on holistic health for the body, soul, and spirit. And Healing Strong offers that every now and then through HealingStrong.org. So anyway, now you know what it is. Here's a reflection from Christy who shared this after one of our jumpstart sessions. Christy said, I am so floored and thankful that I came tonight to hear Laura speak. The Lord has been not just pressing but smashing onto my heart that I have some significant childhood trauma, and tonight affirm that I am on the right path to look for that healing through the Lord and whatever other means he brings into my life. Thank you for facilitating this jump start. It has already been an incredible blessing. I love that for Christy. And to help others find hope just like Christy did, consider giving a donation to healingstrong.org slash donate. We are mostly a volunteer force. And even doing this podcast, the Bible plants that we do, your donations help go a very long way to help us give out these resources to people. Now let's get back to the table and around the word.
SPEAKER_02King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, 60 cubits high and six cubits wide, and set it up on the plain of Dora in the province of Babylon.
SPEAKER_01Wait a minute, wait a minute. So who made this image? King Nebuchadnezzar. Oh, so now the king's gonna do his own thing. Okay. He's gonna create this image that God had given in the vision.
SPEAKER_04Mm-hmm. Ooh. How many people have done this kind of thing? They see, yeah, they see something, they think they they believe they they did get a promise or something from God, but it's not happening in the time frame that they expected. So I'm just so I'm just gonna go do it, make it happen, just like Abraham and uh Sarah. Abraham goes and sleeps with um Hagar. There's all to make that promise happen quicker than on God's timeline.
SPEAKER_03Which is it's that's human nature. We all do it. It doesn't work out well. No, no, it never that no, it never it never ever works out well.
SPEAKER_04You wait, if God gives you word, you wait until he makes it happen. That's right. So he put it out for everybody to see on the plane of Dura.
SPEAKER_02Okay, and then he then summoned the satraps, prefects, governors, advisors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all the other provincial officials to come to the dedication of the image he had set up.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. The earthly king set up. Yeah, let's see how that turns out.
When The Music Starts: Will You Bow
SPEAKER_04And then, oh, this is this is where it gets interesting. Then he takes it a step further and commands everyone to, when they hear the music play, you must fall down and worship the image that basically King Nebuchadnezzar sets up. So you must do it. This never said God set up this image. This is a false image that the king himself set up. And everybody, this is an everybody uh all-in play kind of thing. You all have to bow down to this thing, no exceptions made for this.
SPEAKER_02Nations and people of every language fell down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
SPEAKER_01The king dictated that he said, when you hear this, the horn, the flute, the xyther, the lyre, the harp, the pipes, and all kinds of music. So when this uh uh symphony starts, when you hear this music, you are to immediately fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. So I I I mean, I relate that to in in our lives. What are you gonna do when the band starts up? When the voices are loud, when uh the world is is saying, the news is saying this, that everything's saying this, this, this, this, this. Are you gonna go along with the world and do what the world says to do? So what are you gonna do when the band starts up? That's a great question.
Stand Firm And Wait On God
Closing Encouragement And Resources
SPEAKER_04You kind of have to know what you're gonna do before the music starts playing. What would you do whenever the peer pressure comes and someone's telling you you need to do something? Because if you don't have a plan, if you don't have it in your moral compass to stand firm, it's gonna get hot. It's gonna get hot. I love that challenge from Angie today. I also love the challenge to wait on the Lord. If he's given you a word or something and it's not happening in the time that you want it to happen, you still need to stand firm and wait on him. Doesn't mean that you sit around and do nothing, but making things happen to fulfill something like Nebuchadnezzar did usually doesn't work out well for you. It's funny, as I'm actually recording this, um, we had had that conversation a couple of years ago. And so I'm listening to it again. And wouldn't you know I'm thinking in my head of stuff that I want to make happen to move God's plan along quicker? And I'm like, that was a good word for me today, and I hope it was a good word for you. Thanks so much for joining us for Healing Strong's Around the Word podcast.
