Hey guys, welcome back to plum delusional podcast this week. I've got a couple of the guys in here with me I've got Seth Kimble. He works for me. I got chanting over y'all seen him last week We're gonna talk about a few things this week is the weather starting to change and get colder Seth you will introduce yourself and tell people a little bit about you.
Yeah, my name is Seth Kimble I live in Somerville, Georgia, and I've worked for Daniel for a little while now
All right, I'm chatting if you guys didn't see me last week I'm down son-in-law and I've been here for about two and a half three years going on now and Seth and our partners. I'm leave tech on the truck and The best best guy I could ever have work with me that's for sure absolutely.
Yeah, then we're coming off That's the day's Friday. We got kind of we usually do our podcast on TV, but nice Friday We got a messed up cause of scheduling stuff like that, but we're coming off the week and it's around here It's been a full moon all week I mean we've had it's been one of them weeks that we've just been I posted a quote on my Facebook pages
entrepreneurship is Total chaos with fleeting moments of success and that's been like that's been our theme for this week because it's just been one thing after another it's just Jobs exactly right, you know just
Everything like that. That's the that's one thing I do want to let people look in on them on the on this podcast is Every week ain't perfect. I mean we'll try to make it look good on these these podcasts and stuff But we don't always have a perfect week We're just normal people. We're just we have we have disagreements We have we have things that goes on that stresses all over the side Some of us has had you know, and we stay with each other more than We do a live sometimes. I mean we're with each other 50 to 60 hours a week, you know Some of us at least some of us all y'all together Yeah, most
definitely that's for sure it's something about the job it's just Not for everybody, but it it's it's long. It's hard. It takes a lot of drive a lot of determination and a lot of Well power to get through the days because there are some days you sit there and you just smile Back in the truck and you scream and then you Just one of those things you know, I just hope it's better
Yeah
And the good thing about it was we do have those moments that we'd like I got feel like yesterday right a real good day I mean yesterday everything like good smooth. We've got everything back under control but then you wake up this morning and We're missing a couple of guys coming the virus, you know, it's just and then everything gets out of whack Scheduler wise and then you know, it just it just is what it is and then everybody that's got you on your You've got on your schedule. There are times in port. I mean and you know, our time's important their time's important So we try to make their time priority But what they don't see in the background is the fact that we've you know Went out to change a hider and then we broke the hiring off back up in the house because the pipes right?
Or if you go into one and they say it's this and you turn it into a completely different problem Like you you you packed for this but then you get there and you realize it's completely different
Yeah, and I know we I think I think that's what some of the disagreement this week was is I'm like Well, why y'all done this or why ain't y'all got that going on? Well, I'm bad to get tunnel vision and not realize y'all've done a million other things to get to the point that I sent y'all after You know and then you get there and then the homeowners got like you said something totally different I mean and
When you're a person's home, you know, I mean I've told y'all to do what they asked y'all to do and you know Just take care of it, but then it comes back I'm setting it to be a didn't talking dispatch and dispatch is asking the way chanting and stuff down here to this other Job yet. I'm not going to call him and ask them when I call you nasty and you're like, well, we're trying to do their best job And then you know on top of that we're all trying to do wrong got somebody behind us Well know what we're doing. We're trying to get something done. It's already stressful plumbers distressful job anyway Because you know you make one wrong turn or don't hold against yourself. You've got you know, another 30 minutes worth of work It's like that. I've got to put a gas line in and y'all wind up working on a CPVC leak in a Well room. Yeah. Yeah, I mean that Where you post the tell the guy he's got a leak you're there your plumbing company You know, it's not like you're gonna tell him I will have to reschedule that and come back, you know, we're gonna have to fix it Yeah
And a lot of people I think some people honestly just don't think about it But I think some people sometime a lot. Yeah, well, they're here I'm gonna try to get them for this and you know, they've priced this job So I thought this man, you know plumbers are high anyway, I don't have the other out there They'll add
to it like I've just going on to it, but it's not in our it's not that's been mentioned about it So yeah,
I mean it it happens more often than not. I mean especially with a CPVC though. I mean
Conversation
Just I mean especially wintertime coming on it's getting cold Like if you go out of your house and you have like small pipes and they're like a gold color Don't look at it funny. That's funny. Don't even just pretend it's not there and you might get lucky enough Something doesn't happen. But the CPVC stuff. I mean, oh my god, it's Bread on yeah, we've had times you can just flick it and it's done for
well I remember I remember when a young man had worked for me had been working for me a whole long time he went under a house to fix a toilet or The supply line on the toilet wound up breaking the CPVC under the house Then having to go under the house and fix out that he didn't get home good Till another piece broke loose and had to go back again
Every time he tested He
went over it was to change the supply line on toilet And
You know Guy calls said hey, I can't get the spot. I lose well I tell Channing as he's headed out the door like Channing. How will the guest yourself?
Well, he gets over he holds against yourself and as he's turning the stop all turn it on
it breaks off I just it was a quarter turn valve. I went and I guess I just talked it a little too hard I turned it and I snapped the No question was there spray foam around it? No It wasn't one where the spray foam it is just deteriorated the integrity of the pipe but it's a It's not fun working on CPVC and I don't think we want to necessarily talk The whole time we're here and we can but it's a it's a pain. I'm using PTSD's House and I'm like don't don't bump it don't No
CPB wastegate mouse No Just kill it at the web.
So come how some come howling Honey houses ain't no bother Channing. You won't put it under a house will CPVC a term.
It's for That shrieking crying
For my mom, no, it's not fun
On the note of CPVC and the weather getting colder. That's another thing if What they talk about is trying to get their houses. That's why I wanted to cover today. It's kind of is We don't want to come to your house and fix a busted line in the winter I mean we will and but that's not you know, everybody's so we're gonna get busy better fix busted lines Yeah, but I really don't want to I mean we really don't want to fix busted line We don't want to be under a house at you know, like 19 degrees fix a busted house later So, you know go go now why still you still got some sunshine It's still nice weather get you some cups Stuff all cups going outside items make sure all your house pipes are disconnected and rolled up Make sure any hole under your Underpinnin under your house if you've got vents make sure they're closed if they won't close Put some kind of plastic or some kind of styrofoam in them You know make sure your doors are latched on your your crawl spaces Just you know do a walk around the house if you got any outside Hiding yarn hiders that need a bucket put on them put a bucket on them if you can block the wind off of something it's probably not gonna freeze and bust if you
We don't really see a lot of Bad situations till we get down to the tens around here and in the last few years. It's been that way I mean we've had some 10 degree days.
I mean, I think the best thing you can do is on a plastic line See if any like pex lines or galvanized lines, you really don't have to worry about freezing But if you'd like the PVC or CPVC make sure you you go and get some type of pipe insulation You can pick them up at hardware stores Big box doors stuff like that and just put a little bit down there It'll save you a little bit of a hard time and having to see us when you maybe don't want to Because you do that you do a pool noodle go to the shed get a pool noodle You probably have ten of them out there from the summertime and just put a slit down it with a razor knife Very carefully wrap it over it and it'll give it enough protection there to kind of keep the cold weather out of it, too That helps out a lot
now if you if you're living in a newer house It was built built in the you know in the in the 90s or 2000s You ain't got to worry about it, but as much as somebody that's living in the house. It was built, you know a Spree yeah, I mean you know because
they
We see a lot of them in The what I call old meal towns around and you know like in my faith there's a lot of meal houses that they used to work at the old ball with meals and and then and then and The meals are the down in Somerville where you're from There's a lot of houses it that worked with that student that that right around Mount Vernon now, that's the name of it and They're gonna walk. Yeah, you know and That's not you know, there'd be gaps in it stuff like that. So I'm like got on opinion. Yeah Mobile homes they got real thin underpinning them that mobile home is probably gonna be your hardest part to keep from freezing because of the undepended if it's a older mobile home and That's like
From what I see on my list on the service of the mobile homes if you've got one like 90s 2000s up I mean, it's polybewling or pecs. So you don't worry about it as much. I mean about and they're insulated very well, so I mean But yeah If you live in something like an older house from the 60s or 70s and just be cautious Leave-leaf water dripping on your faucets overnight. Nothing crazy Just a steady drip enough to keep water flowing through there so that it prevents it from freezing that that always helps Don't ever forget to do that.
Take you out buildings. It's got water barns, you know field hydrant stuff like that Make sure make sure you feel how to insane if you've got a field higher on them It looks like a whole time in punk feel how to fill your cows water up or you check your horses or whatever Make sure it's not dripping because if it's a dripping it's gone freeze. It's gone bust We've seen a lot. We've seen a lot of that because and a lot of times they're installed wrong I mean we we We've seen so much of that we've got to worry put ours on a five gallon bucket to keep the debris away
from we're Rocking it.
All right. Yeah, we're rocking it to to let it have some more to leach out So I mean if it's not draining, it's gonna freeze and bust
Yeah waterproof spigots are not completely waterproof
Well,
it's just like the freeze-proof spigots it goes on the house, you know If they're not installed with a you know An angle or if you leave a hose pipe on them They're gonna do worse to freeze then I seal cock just a plain seal cock, you know I've said it a million times I would rather put a seal cock on a house as a frost booth because people leave the House I mean I've been a guilty yet
It's it's it's always bested to put a seal cock on with this screw on vacuum breakers If that's what your county calls for you. I mean just put that on there. I don't I don't know the
Frostproof hydrants are just a nightmare. They're not those have busted them walls You have to cut out a wall cuz I mean how many kitchens have we have we gone into? Oh, hey, we've got a leak here and it's a hydrant and you're cutting in the wall They've got sheetrock damage and then it's there for the shoulders cabinets. I mean, it's I think it turns into a bigger deal
With that kind of stuff. So just definitely take care of it for sure.
Yeah Another thing you get into is well Moses you don't even know they've busted till spring You go back out there you ready to wash your car
Do some
You know wash your decks off get ready for People up and you go out there you turn your house back on you throw it over and you pull Top it off and next thing you know your kid runs out says mom I water running in the kitchen or bad there's water running in the living room, you know, the sheetrock's falling off the wall And Then by that time you've already got water in the house You got to take sheetrock down you've got to change the hydrant So, you know the good thing about the seal cocks it you're talking about with the back and breakers Good you're screwed on them is if they do bust usually it's outside
You know, let me see brass fails where it did freezes and busted a seam or something like that. I mean
and then
Along with cold weather not only taking care of your house stuff like that We do a lot of gas and fuel, you know Right now we've got people adding
Fireplaces for Christmas, you know, we love to do your fireplaces for Christmas, but we can only do so many between now Christmas. Yeah I've had somebody call me the other day and he was like, can you get my fireplace in?
By the weekend we're gonna have our Thanksgiving this weekend. I'm like, but no, I mean I got to be Honest with you. I can't get it. I'd love to do the work But you know, I can't you know, if I let if I go get here as I've got somebody else down Yeah, you know so and we're probably one of them in our area. We probably got some of the
We've got one largest crews right now in the area that actually does Fuel I work, you know gas and propane stuff like that.
I mean like yesterday I mean it's crazy, but we caught service calls and then we got two gas jobs done in the same day and then That's them one. I'm in about new builds. They're not out on this But I mean but I mean people are adding gas more and more down here because it's been getting colder down here and that's the thing it's just Did I tell you? No, you didn't the
the The homeowner at the last house we finished yesterday called me today Not before we got here and was telling me. Oh you missed the stove you missed the stove you missed the stove I said no sir And I had three drops in the house I did three drops on the house thought put the stove right underneath the the pot filler as you asked He goes, are you sure I said yes, I've got photos. I can send it to you if you want me to He's like well, I was trying to enjoy my he's got guys over there. They're trying to tell us we did our job wrong
Yeah, he tell you tell me he's like I believe you I'm gonna call somebody they're just not do you have a copy back No He said I'll call you back if there's something wrong. Yeah, there obviously was nothing wrong. I mean, I got The
reason it might let me say in that is because the same reason we had no popular Is because I had a set of prints that had to do the stove on the right hand side of that Pantry alcove. Well, they wanted on the left hand side. We all got it now. So whoever was down there No, no, it was man.
I had the original set of prints. No, I said that but I told him I said it was the kind of guy It may have been because he and I were talking about I'm like that the stone
there
At the point of measuring for cabinets down there
is a there is a huge yellow line that comes down I'm just there's a line.
It's got a little brass cap on the end of it. He's like I'm not to go quit fishing and go over there and look at it. He was not happy I think he was just on a fit label fishing thing getting away from his wife for a minute You got
to stay there again and I know people do it to save money But there again, that's trying to be your own general contractor You know as it's it's it's it is good. It's it's good to build your own house I think everybody will build your own house one time.
Mm-hmm.
I want they can understand what we go through But we see more problems More stuff come up When the homeowner is trying to be the general contractor and they don't mean nothing by it It's just they don't know how to deal with stuff on a day-to-day
basis They get ahead of their self sometimes and then I
think I see a lot of stuff with because I mean we do a lot of new con and we see a lot of homeowners doing this and it's They have their own personal life. They have their own job So and then they're trying to contract everything out and then hey my wife wanted this changed right, I don't get that they barely get to you in time if you're rushed because You've got you know, you want to do right by your customer I mean
right kind of like the change and then go back and put it back times that we tried to get left But yeah
You know A lot of people don't know that I've got general contractors license along with master plumber license and you know We do say thank you a lot We've got every license just about that you need to build a house from the ground up and I do some GC GC it on some small houses and stuff like that and y'all are used to coming on a job that I'm running and apply and apply y'all's job you apply your experience from that job to this job and It's different coming on a job that's so Unorganized be like me trying to build a player play. I can build a house I can build a lot of things but if I started to build a airplane, I would know where to start You know, do you start with the wheels you start with the wings, you know, are you starting burgers? And then it's and then it I might get put together it might resemble our plane, but we look like
yeah with it fly Yeah, we'll take off Say something.
I know you've seen a lot of it over the years is The customers are customers with friends who come over to help them out and understand things normally women that are older in age because they Have someone who cares about them that don't want them being taken advantage of you get to a job site You got to do a fix and you've already done your studies. You've done your your your you've looked over everything and
Why are you doing this? Why are you doing that? Why and I Understand you don't know me. I don't know you I understand completely you want to make sure I'm not care about this personal I know but we've had jobs where like one way one up the other day North of Chattanooga and older guy was coming to check on the lady and
He he sat there and he said well that'll do this and this and that's it Well, sir, it's actually this way and we're actually gonna replace her shut off out because she had a wastegate We're probably in because it actually does not seal off. It's like well. Yes it does because I just did this and The meter was still on and I just opened it up in full pressure still coming out of the hydrant. I said it's bad It's back now. He goes. Oh, okay. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, okay that and then I'll just yes you turned it. That's great It's not working and it's just we catch up stuff all the time It's I guess I'm really talking from the aspect of you know If there's customers contractor the customers there to think they know everything I mean we deal with a lot I mean on that aspect, but we see it all the time how many times do we sit there and we're like We love our customers. We're glad to be there in their houses, but sometimes some people just Just give us a moment. Okay, we're not gonna lie to you I mean, I'll try to treat everybody as you know I hope they would treat me and so if you I'm not gonna lie to you if you don't lie to me type thing and so And
I try to use that aspect tell you I try to let y'all work I I do it if I'm looking over y'all shoulder, it makes a big more stressful It just does I feel like and I'll catch myself doing it Mm-hmm, and you know, I'll catch myself and I tell y'all it's not because I don't want to help y'all do a job Which I've got another million things I've got to be doing Make my phone do anything like that, but I'll come down and I'll upset y'alls technique I mean there's a million ways to do the same job just as long as it's done right and y'all got different ways of doing jobs or doing gas or you know than I do because You know, I like one way and y'all I've taught y'all that the fundamentals of it and y'all I told y'all yeah, y'all taught me a way to do it a little bit That's like a day going in we work with me we we didn't always plumb like we're plumbing now because we you know now we walk with Diego and Ezekiel them and they they plumb different and they've taught us they've taught us things to make us more efficient and That's the good thing if you if you keep that mindset even I try to and then and I don't mean to when I get close-minded Then as I get older, you know, it's one of things but you know you try to stay open-minded to learn things and and and And everything is I try to remember I don't know everything the best but I do got a lot of experience a lot of time I try to experience but back to what was talking about Is but if I'm looking over your shoulder, I'm trying to tell you how to do something you're trying to do it It makes it ten times more stressful. So I even try to stay a year's way
Well, the thing is it's like the new perspective doesn't ever hurt I mean there sometimes we'll be doing a job and like hey we could do it this way and I didn't think about it that way and I'm like Yeah, we're gonna do that And we do it and it's just it two brains always better than one and sometimes Three brains are it just it depends on the job side and what what the task is being done I mean, there's the things were the more the merrier and there's sometimes it's too many Chiefs not enough Indians It just depends sometimes we could mean you got split up you take this I will take this It's how it works for sure But like I
mean Seth is really animated he's got it very
He and I work on a lot of gas lines we've been doing a lot I mean past three months we've done Yeah, yeah, that was a guy on the sidelines.
Gosh And that's why we stepped up to this. Yeah, this mega press is to is to be able to do a little bit more Efficient a little bit more, you know, it's a little bit more quick I mean y'all probably know more about this stuff and I do that now.
I mean, it's great stuff I'm not gonna run over the whole thing I'll let you talk about a little bit too But like the pressing are awesome because I believe these are water oxygen gas rated. I believe that may be wrong but I know they're staying right? Yeah there but
There's no threading there's no threading there's less look on it should say
WOG if it says WOG is water oil and gas it is and then there's some
WSG or some of them just maybe GS we're gassing steam.
This is ST They do have a bronze one just a SG ST is what this is T. I don't know if that's a serious I
Don't know what that'd be I don't know there's a bunch of like serial numbers on here But they do they have the bronze ones now that even clamp to galvanize that kind of stuff Yeah, and that's I'm sure they've got those that are rated correctly for that stuff, but I mean It's easy to take your bandsaw reams and paper your pipe get the bevel on it. So all your birds are gone and Holy I mean a ream is a so they have a I call it a reamer. It's a Tool the burning tool whatever yeah a chamfer tool, but
You sit there and you get your bevel on it put it on there press it down with the mega press and it's done I mean, that's it. I Think we've only had one fitting mess up and it was our fault Yeah, cuz we we missed a nick and it ripped out the inside of the there's like little rings in here Think you'll be able to see it.
Well, those they don't call them over things They call them they call them seals, but these are not they don't look nothing like an o-ring They look more like a flat seal Then they get as far as the the mega press versus the pro press stuff for the water. These are more substantial
Yeah, but I mean he and I could I've done the threaded gas lines and house It's an entire day to do a two drop two drop house that time out there. Well, was it six hours? The one out in Rock Spring we did that one time like he had the gas grill and the gas fireplace Yeah,
I think that's why I got set up that I set the go rigid 300 Measure
coming out of the house a hundred times We go in our house we can drag everything with us have a flashlight under there if it's not encapsulated and then All right, ten inches cut 120 cut what I you know just go through and then Prep done and you they make the caps here that press on but We usually use the thread ones because you want to be able to service it like and we'll put threaded valves above the floor But if it's another four valve or press it in because it's faster, it's more efficient. But like it's I Don't know man. I'm what's your thoughts on it? Cuz I you did sprinklers a lot so I'm sure there's just threading and that and all kind of stuff
Well, it just means you've got threading you got big fat So like but I really think this is the method to go like it it just everything comes out a Lot quicker, I think
well, I think this is I mean you brought it up the big pop But this is kind of on the method of that big pretty money Cuz the big pop you just grooved it then you put the Fit on it and it just had a client guy. It's got this
guy to screw you over you two bolts on it I'm gonna ask you I pulled out of you you put your rubber gasket on Roger connect.
So that's what it's got in here. It's just these are you can't bold them. It's just smaller size So they probably you know, we took the Victor fitness to say, you know, we can build that into the
whole gas This is pretty much just a permanent fitting where the big talk you can just take apart So right
now that's the only thing about it I know you know if you go on there to take it apart your if you don't put union Do it we talk about that as we've got to have some union somewhere
and that's good in which y'all done guys long to jog guys on dogs yesterday and James and James and that done a job upon look out mountain to
To all the generators up there so and That's another thing is We're seeing a trend and is everybody my generation.
I think it's just the uncertainty with weather around here, especially I mean we Not our specific towns But I mean everywhere nearby us the hurricanes came through and you had a hurricane come through and it destroyed inland towns that We're in the mountains I mean we're in Appalachian Mountains and what do you have a hurricane come in that makes no sense Well, you have that uncertainty there and if you lose power and you don't have total devastation You want something that's reliable so that you can still have everything there in your house and function properly.
Yeah I actually signed a
partnership with Jirak For us to become a dealer and installer and we've actually had a real good response with that so if anybody's out there looking to get a Bit on one of them give us a holler way to do we're doing some great package prices and stuff like that and uh But we've got five or six sets five or six packages sold. We've done put in one package We got put in a package up on lookout mountain and you got one over in the Cove the other Cove and we've got a couple seven waiting ready to go in and But like you said, it's just more peace of mind. I mean, you know We have them The other day we was out without power a couple of days after that storm come through but nothing We didn't get near as bad as some of them. I know I Know Carolina there's people just I believe they're still people that power still there's still towns wiped out up there So yeah, so I mean and that would I'm not gonna say that, you know with that devastation I don't know if you're getting ready to come through but if they don't have one, you know You know, you might have another part of you get something going on. Yeah I mean, you know down here if you have a you have a I stole a way by that
I stole them Yeah, it takes father never wearing and nobody's got power.
So I mean, that's the thing too is like it's not just for this area I mean you go up north and I've a lot of cousins in North Carolina and Hard snow happens tree. So all they snap or heavy snow on the power line breaks the power line I mean you don't want you want something so that it doesn't interrupt your comfort for sure. Yeah, that's it I mean, it's definitely a luxury item, but if it's one of those things it's definitely if you can afford it and do it because
Certainty is always waiting around the corner and it's gonna spook you whenever you don't want it to
so Yeah, it just goes back into that stuff that was talking about the last time man you together here is the the
The improvements that we've got on you know stuff like the the generators the mowing flows the you know The the one that goes at the major. I still can't remember the name of it.
Oh the yo link yo link
and you know Right after we done this I think it was maybe the day we finished up the podcast you went down to Well, we had just installed that one and I called you and you thought hey We got to make a change on this bathroom remodel and I thought what do you got called the house get to that? Water meter that water could all these like no No, I can just use her phone and yeah
And then that's amazing we did that one in trying and she was Going through and she was she's not super tech savvy and she was really like it was the coolest thing to her She goes so if I have a problem later on in the future because she had all that damage the kitchen She was I can just I said it will tell you it's in learning mode. It learns your tendencies It's it's and just click a button. She's like well, how long will take shut off and then it? 10 seconds. Yeah, 10 seconds. It's shut off and then Water kicked off. I made drain down and you know 30 seconds whatever and she was just like oh So my water's office at the top and said if you forget you go on vacation, you're like, I really want to turn that off You're good. It's it's it's it's awesome.
Yeah, especially especially if It's I would really suggest it if you've got Family members that are home and they're not as agile as I used to be, you know My dad, I mean he's been a plumber all his life, but he's you know, he had he had some medical issues And now he's in a wheelchair. He couldn't turn his own water off If I wasn't if there was a plumber there or me or somebody there he would you know He couldn't turn his own water off. But now if he had that mow and flow He can turn it off. So it's not only protection for any home It's actually something I had comfort to make somebody that you know That lives by theirself a little bit more independent, you know, cuz everybody likes to be independent I mean my dad's a prime example You know, he don't like nobody doing nothing for him Unless it's a cute girl.
Yeah. Yeah for real But that's the thing it's like I mean, how many people do we service and this is I mean, this is my second house This is my second house. I live two states away. We just come here on the weekends or for holidays Yeah A lot. Yeah, where they have all the views and that's that's what they want They want something they can relax in the mountains with a beautiful view and that's what matters But I don't know it's just like we've talked about it and like what can we do for like to just as a precaution Before the holidays because we're gonna go back home and I'm like you can do this Your house is also brand new like these are brand new houses that we've been I'm like, so you have pecs You have the latest technology plumbing. You really probably don't have anything to worry about but you also come to the point of having like
Technology on your side and I was talking to one of our customers about the other day and she She was highly surprised that was even an option for her house I know a lot of people just don't know that that's stuff we can do and And
And that may be one of our downfalls is not getting that information out to them I mean is that I know we don't I don't like to upsell people. No, I don't We're not gonna upsell we're not so we're not trying to take granny's last dollar from her, you know Social security check that she got to make her ends meet with but you know on the same hand We don't want to do in the injustice by not letting them know That there's some kind of you know, there's an option option Yeah, I guess I guess we want to that's what that's one of the reasons We're doing this podcast is to get people get out here and kind of know what we do Well, you know everything that we've got so, you know, I'm not hopefully, you know, this time reaches who it needs to reach and We can get the word out that there is Options and stuff like that if you need them, you know
I mean transparency and a little bit of candor goes a long way and then something like a blue collar job because I feel like over the years, especially then a that's a blue collar area where we live at there's a lot of jobs, but It gets a bad rap when it doesn't deserve it because you know, you can you see the people they're blue collar worker and We're just people like you guys honestly But I mean, how often do we tell people though like hey
We at least on our number we work at it's an hourly wage We don't get paid off commission. So whether you say yes or no, it doesn't matter We're actually just trying to tell you what we believe is you know in the best interest for you Yeah, and I mean, I don't know if you have anything to add to that But like I mean, is there anything you think about like people should know about blue collar stuff that they may not realize?
I Just really think a lot of people don't know about it They don't know the product exists and that's the that's what it is like They don't think hey look I can hook something up right here and it's gonna tell me if I got weeks They just don't know that that's an option because I mean I didn't know until yeah recently
Well, the other thing is we will like to push a product till we know it's gonna work Because I don't want I you know, I put my name It's why we was talking about before we got the cards cast started We had some issues with you know, somebody going out doing work and then thinking it was under Mitchell's plumbing Well, my name is out there. So any product that I put out there I want to know that it's gone be legit You know, it's going last so the molar flows. I wanted to give them some time and We've put in a couple of them in different places that I felt like, you know, we could put them in
And monitoring one, you know one for one of the big contractors we work for y'all work for him yesterday He's having fantastic results out of his The gentleman that you put the old link and the Moen in for is exactly. Yeah, he loved it
And then the lady in trying it, you know We actually experienced, you know how good it's worked and it's working really good Now I do remember we run into one of those Don't look out now. Do you remember look finding that that one that house where we modeled up there?
It was oh they had the water cop brand one up there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it was still working pretty good Yeah, which that one was a little different. It wasn't Switch yeah, but it had a press button on the wall You didn't have to go into the crawlspace but you had on and off switch and you pressed it I was like we didn't really know where it was at yet because they and we just heard And we saw the valve light up and turn like oh, okay, that's where it is I mean,
but you know and that and that that was neat They probably said on the newer technology when they built that house and that was a second. Yeah, and then I remember Row that been
Chicken mama Yeah, got it on it was you know, he he was all about Maintenance and stuff like that. He had a you know, a quick electrically actuated
Caught off out of use he was a flip switch, but it was a you know, a magnetic solenoid valve and It would it would open and close with me and he had it in so, you know He would have been one of them candidates. It would have loved the mowing flow.
I mean, I would talk about the past couple of times, but it's just
There's there's not a ton of Things out there yet when you get to the super tech savvy stuff to throw in the plumbing But it's it's one of those advancements that's Making leaps and bounds for the customer. It's not super expensive I mean, it's still I mean, what will they cost like on the web on average? They're cost about that
But you go you go pay for three quarter Low flow is gonna be for the product itself gonna be right seven hundred on okay, that's it
But it's seven hundred dollars for a single installation versus Thousand dollars Look
at the look at the job we've done down in trying that was just a small leak And you know, I noticed yeah, it was thousands of dollars to read in the kitchen. I mean And it's just it is what it is. I know I never really talked about it a couple of times I guess we're pretty impressed with it.
I mean, I mean It's pretty cool. I mean, it's very cool I mean, this is I mean you'd be a liar if you didn't say hey, that's awesome that we have that open, you know I mean
You
know, and that may be something I need to put on the trucks ask about the moment though You know, I thought about that without putting on a sticker And you know asked our takes about the mole info or I start our star takes about, you know, you know You know the Renise I've had people's got out there and got their research on the thankless war here Yeah, I think it I mean we're seeing a big trend going from tank to tank list You know which you was talking about the learning, you know The flow large and they were nice that since a air since a your whatever. Yeah, it's inside How do you say that it learns you you know, you're you're? What are you so you alter you so it? kicks on the
The circulator as you need it, you know I mean, but they also make the advancement because they were nice like they're starting to make more commonly the switch units and it goes from LP to natural gas and it just It knows it knows it picks it up. It senses it switches and what's it's got the setting on the board But yeah, I mean, it's there's no more change out orfaces.
So did you have earnest so that one you put in that other day? Did you have to change it on the board or get you know,
like whenever you power it up for the first time It had ng LP and it was flashing and you picked it with a slider switches and then actually had it Had I in an OT I guess as indoor outdoor because that one
Yeah, the new sensation I've been buying is They they're indoor outdoor natural or propane One one ninety nine or one eighty or 160 and a 130 and have them in stock and I can use it for any Applications so it makes it where I can stock for units instead of having to stop
Eight years, you know, I mean cuz I Mean when it comes to To gas, I mean you saw me if you saw him doing stoves especially I mean it takes forever to do I'm a kid. I'll start apart.
Yeah, did the entire the entire stove had to come apart Yeah
that way it took us about an hour to change everything out because because and then you got to put the orfaces back inside there and then they're vertical and Most time you don't have a magnetic socket and so you're really hoping you don't drop it and it's it's it's a pain
Well, no, I got I did buy y'all the the V-verse that did I had or Did I get y'all the light set of fuck? It's like I got on my truck Yeah, I get y'all that cuz it's got to it's got the the magnet a magnetic net drivers it but those are my Those are that's what we say. Those are those are breath. See I wouldn't even so you got to do the black tape trip Yeah,
I'm sure you're glad that you're not taking a stick magnet before and I've put them in there and just got the first thread Started so they may stick on
well, they're guys be coded or something Well, they've got a little a stainless or a metal band around the top of them. That's right. That may be for magnetic I have noticed that but I don't know that mass is a non-metallic. Yeah, so So that might be why they have that that that basically band in them if you look at them on the side of them
But yeah, that's one reason I have
Let you take on the gas stuff and I hate working on stoves I mean, I I know you you probably don't just enjoy it. But I mean you you like the more and Intricle stuff.
I mean, it's it's the mechanical stuff. I like working on vehicles and yeah, it's just one of those things It's just tinkering. It's all it is in my brain.
So and I I Kia makia all the time. I said I you know, I put you and you together here
We've got we've got him he's all the time trying to run in place. You're trying to slow down and figure out what's going on
Slower that I think I mean that and I do I want to touch on that again I do probably ask more out of my guys than any other Plumbing boss out there and they probably do better than any other guys out there And I try to show it but there's times I forget it. I don't mean to forget it but I do and it's one of them things where I You know, I hope I hope come Christmas time. I'm gonna make sure y'all understand how much I appreciate And stuff like that. But you know, I've said it a hundred times. There'd be guys that work for us and They they you know, they they They do so they just don't make the cut, you know, I'll give a guy six months I mean You just don't make the cut Yeah, it's this time to go and then in the six months and I'm not saying I'm we're super power or anything like that I just think I think that we expect a lot and we drive a high I
Strive for quality that can leave our company and they go to other companies but are rock stars You know, they are yeah, you know, we got one, you know, there's one right now that left us He'd been with us, you know about eight nine months
Or he was in about two years ready work together almost two years two years two years and but he was having I think he was having relationship problems and He left I had a lady I had to fire him and He went to work for another company and they think he's a rock star.
I ran to the other day. He is like 10 10 doing great smiling happy as can be he's thriving. He was happy. Well, he was happy He was never actually a second. He's he's always been positive, but I I just hope I get more out of it than I did. I mean, that's the thing there's like
You can you can self evaluate and say hey, I'm hard on my guys But if you don't have quality control, then there's no quality right?
I mean, I mean you can't walk out of a food serving prep Kitchen, no one may got to open set, you know Saturday morning just because you got to be home by 530 Well, that is that is one thing that we can't do we can't you can't give up. I mean That's where that went. Oh, you know, we walked over a Situation and said I can't fix it and nobody could I mean and I don't want to get it with me just didn't want to take time Oh, well, it wasn't going to be off and you know, it would have come in to hate boss I've got to be home at 6 o'clock. I'm not gonna you need to send somebody else down here to do this water heater don't go down there and Come back tell me what they said not to worry about it. Then her comments like why didn't they change this water heater?
Yeah I mean that's something too about this job like if we're gonna be real about this job and be open about it to the public His relationship stuff in this job. I mean, it's a hard job. You got to have a very understanding partner by your side to roll with this job because there's some days we get home at 5 o'clock Sometimes we get home at 7 o'clock. There's a tendency to do I do I mean there have been a couple of times since I've worked Here it's been that way not often but I mean and that's the thing is like thankfully I mean, we've all got very understanding partners like hey, I gotta let you know It's gonna be a long night. I'm sorry. I'll be home as soon as I can but we've got to get this done because XYZ
yeah, and I and and you know even being even within the boss, you know And I use that term loosely being the boss because I try to be you know, I try to be a leader not a boss you know, but You know my
Better half, you know, she gets aggravated at I'm out and gone, you know all the time I mean it is a hard it is a it is a as much as it is Rewarding it has its sacrifices
You know, it's just like because
Emergencies come in, you know deadlines.
I mean like the 2000 foot waterline we had to have put in that day like we had one day
Yeah And
just to be honest with you that two thousand foot waterline Yeah, we had to put it in a day, but that was just that was comfort I didn't want to have to walk to their house, which you know when you're still a share easement like that I mean you gotta kind of got it, you know or the other night when somebody had to get up at three o'clock
and go to DC I see I
Because Someone decided he meant a filter and somebody was so somebody had accidentally turned
their phone on top I didn't even get the call till I got up and Thankfully, I've got you know Would crew somebody got a hold up, you know, I know if we've got all the you to say It
was like four-third in the morning I just I went okay
Even even getting there, you know, you can get married me and it's like, you know, we didn't you know You didn't want
to grab it for a bit more. I know I did not sometimes like I thought about it for a minute I was like, yeah, I just said no, no, I can't we gotta go.
Well, that's why that's why I'm being a plumber It's not for everybody Because you've got to have a lot of self-discipline, you know, they was you know Make all G, you know, you could have come up with a hundred thousand reasons not to
gotta I could have pretended See it right,
but you know the number so you know it was a facility You know what you know what they've done at the facility and you know, it was very important about big priority. All right, so
Get one to the displace The customers at that facility and you know that that's a big time for do it. Yeah, which you know So you got up and you done what had to be done it was a hard job It was
just no it was it was just a domain just a simple like, you know socket save put some new parts in no big deal But at the same time it's all those things I'm sitting there and I'm thinking to myself is like, okay, they've They got patients there. They got patients that I can't they can't dial eyes. I mean these people have to have that say Medical necessity they have to have this done and yeah sure they've got other clinics But are they gonna be able to accept if I was like I said for about five minutes I was probably in my head at a million miles an hour and I just went I Got going living room give them call I got up and I did I just called him I was like what's going on?
Yeah, you know and that's that's a good thing about No, we're your problem Have a good relationship with your plumber Because if if we if we if we got good relationship, we got good working relationship One of us is gonna go I mean if I have to get that, you know I still cover calls sometimes if I have to y'all know I do We try to rotate it around
But a lot of times Unfortunately, the thing about plumbing sometimes it takes four sets of hands or two sets of hands four hands You know, you've got to have somebody to hold a range over here or an auger or you gonna get hurt
I wouldn't or take off outside just to grab tools so you can you can keep doing what you're doing Then somebody else could grab what you need
right, you know You know, we've got just a guy that was all you know, we're down a guy right now We're looking for one but we had a guy that all he does is logistics, you know Zach when he come in there, I reckon he stayed in a truck to you know, what? 9 hours a day Well now he you know now he's Through Events now he's riding shotgun for a you know, a lead taking a truck, you know You know and the tech that was doing the tech seats now the lead guy on the truck seat, you know It was time and we've been talking about it And thankfully we had just bought you a new van and and got ready to start another you know Another set of tanks because I know John was getting ready to go So we've got y'all in a full size man. Y'all we got y'all's training wheels office But now I don't know several of them short she's still a good little layup it rocks it does but now yeah and
Well, I'll fit it back out and and and the guy'll drive it to logistics and and and learn I mean, that's the best way to do it is We get a lot of on the job training. That's a good thing That's one of the good things about being an apprentice when you come in you get a lot of good on job training And I've said it before I pay you to teach you you don't pay me to teach you like I do in colleges And you can come out making you know, what times you I mean Y'all are making as much as people that's had college got college degrees right now
you know, I Mean how how often and this is a thing it's not as much in the experience thing as
There's a lot of times you wind up changing a perspective for yeah, or just figuring it out Yeah, just there's sometimes like man. I can't figure this out and like Even though I have more experience in him. That doesn't mean he's he's incompetent It doesn't mean he's you what he almost a just that's what's great about this job is you you take someone here like you're okay New guy cool. I don't know how this is gonna work out and then what it's been
You see what not just you and I together because it would you and I work together at first It's in what six months. Yeah, probably or so and it's just been past too much just
Great one. That's one thing and that's why I hate hiring new hires is You never know how the the new the new ingredient It's gonna affect the whole mix Because if you you know you add the wrong ingredient or the wrong new tag or the wrong new
apprentice Everything can go right either way it could go We can get it could go and
we've seen it you've been here long enough. You've seen it We've had a couple of practices that they didn't do a lot of talking But they didn't do a lot of learning and they they They just kind of was there and that that hurts So, you know Then you've had some it's come in. It's been wild fire But the wildfires see me a flashing pan. It's like the one it's Lost all over the other way. He was he was a flash in the pan. He was possibly you know
He kind of spizzled out, you know, it got to work, you know, you know, see him there's days all going to work And you know, we've got to have that Longer, that's what one of the great things about you and in self working together and and Zach and and Same way was Zach and James James is a little bit more
You know methodical and straight and just
That he's ready for that big wide open just like you
Know you need that. Hey, you know, let's go what's the next thing you need and as a as a helper or as a You know assistant that's that's what you gotta do I mean my daddy always told me when I was learning said so, you know, if you ain't tell if you ain't if you ain't Good helper He said, you know if you if you're on a job and you're not the lead you're gonna help I mean I've done if I was to go on the job working, you know for you know If I go on job and there's another plumber there no matter if he's a master or not You know if he's if he's the lead on the job I'm gonna help him talking about one of y'all's jobs. I try it's one reason I try not to be the lead on a job when I show up but y'all have that tendency It's just that power order if I come up, you know, y'all wanna ask me Well, how you gonna do something if I think that's good or but a lot of times I won't even say nothing You know, I'm like that's what you think, you know, I'm not here to
I'm not here to I'm not here to pick the direction. I'm just here to make sure everybody goes your way
yeah, and the thing is is like I know it happens a lot but like We can say new hires bring stuff in so at first if we're running a job together I let him hand me tools and pay attention and I didn't want him touching anything I'm like I'm bad about that. I'm gonna be like hey, I want to be in control it makes me more comfortable on a situation because I know how things can turn but like there's job sites we get to and I'll look at me like hey
Go ahead do this because
I'm bad about not like I just want to control everything. I want to make sure everything goes the way I think it should go and
There's he's figured out. I don't like to stay there. There's a lot Well, there's a large percentage of jobs that like yesterday, you know how to go talk about a couple things He was under there with one of the other guys and just knocking that out Right no problem at all and I don't I don't doubt it for a second that he can do it
Well, that's that's what I was talking about the guy we had it if we knew had to talk about something He
wanted to be right there with us.
Well, he didn't want to be he wanted to be right there Where's her for he wanted to be? You know, he didn't do nothing while he was gone Mm-hmm, and then then you have the one that the one will be back there We listen to it and then try to confuse you on the situation.
I mean there were Thomas Hey, I've got to go run get this because we didn't even realize this was a thing and Come back and nothing's been prepped. He's sitting there on his phone on Facebook
And if he and I have to go do something like today we needed one Little one-inch nipple that was shorter than all the ones we had on the truck I said, I don't have a close. I need to go get close. It's only what's gonna work I hate I said, I'm thought the boxes how you ready? He had everything prepped for presses for cutting for everything We got up in there got it done got it piece together and then kept rolling I mean, that's the thing it's like you got to be able to work cohesively together And anything that works together as a non bonding agent and the team is gonna is gonna be ultimately your downfall
right and that and that's another time, you know me You've got to you've got to want to do what you do it You've got to have you know, and that's one reason why it's one reason I try to push You know the camaraderie and and and you know, if y'all need something we try to do it, you know, even outside of work I try to be you know sympathetic to you know situations because the end of the day We've all got to have the common goal and that's that's that's to get our job done Get it done with quality and it's all making nice living and go home for our families, I mean, that's
That's it.
I see it. I mean, I guess that's everybody's go but that's that's You've got to have that Mentality in in a crew to be successful And I feel like we're we have we have cornered market on success right now I say, you know, I feel like we're doing real good We're doing a lot of we're getting a lot of conversion on our calls our customers are happy. We're getting five-star reviews we're winning the you know, the customer review awards and stuff from Georgia best journal just give us a Best of the best award, you know We're five time award winning on the you know Georgia best of best and I hope it's I hope it's six sister, you know Channing likes to go eat a little dinner and pick up the
plaque That's a pretty fun thing. You get to meet you to meet neat people now. It's pretty cool I mean it's pretty neat.
Well, and also we're coming into we're fixing to come into
Show season where we're gonna apply and we go to get to go to learn so I hope to be able to break You know, well, I'm gonna go get her this year because there's so much going on but I hope to send you know To take two trucks takes to go to do, you know, there's a couple of shows coming up But I want to go to I would love for all of us to make it to the wet show
But you know, it's in Indianapolis. It's you know said right there drive or you know
Five thousand dollar flight Well for everybody, you know, I mean it would be I should need on tinnows So, you know how about to do that? But it's something that you know, we can learn the new stuff. It's coming out I right before we got here. I was picking up some tools at
At the hardware and For your new truck and it's just so happened today was the Milwaukee
Tech day he was he was there the representative so I got a signed up We get all the latest stuff coming out and everything we're gonna be he gonna get in contact with us So we'll be we'll be the first ones build purchased the new Redline tools that's coming out So so that's you know, that's that's my vision out there His
coffee
cup is red
Watching my podcast For a small donation for a small donation of tools, I don't need money I just need to
It's one of the things it's
Efficiency, you know, that's the good thing about it. I like the Storage system they got you know, it's good. It's it makes us it makes us neat. It makes us quick, you know The tools they've got the pro press I like their pro press because they've got you know They've got the two different sizes which you know For a long time. I was a yellow. I mean I Love to convert. I mean all my tools was yellow.
Yeah, I got you. I caught the one in your garage.
Yeah But They're good tools. They're good tools. But the thing about it is Milwaukee makes so much The verse of five toes for plumbing trade and their tough.
Well, the thing is it's like
They actually make three presses they've got the long throat pressure Yeah, I forgot about it because that one's pretty cool I mean, but
that's one that's got this swivel head and all that
it's a it's like the mega press but it's got like a one foot chrome head on it and It builds up more torque for the presses. I guess yeah We had them and it presses like three and four inch gas lines with the power.
Oh, actually
Bottoms one down to use to press some of their forward five-inch stuff like this when we first got into it Yeah, and that's another thing Vega Vega is depressed If if I can buy if I can buy a vegan material
I do our buddy Austin really opened her eyes on that Yes a lot.
Yes. Yes. Yes Great customer service and And the quality is like so like a horror and plumber. Mmm. You pay for what you get I put you know good ain't always cheap and cheap ain't always good. Mm-hmm and you know
Because I've told Channing this and
Podcast on it complete, you know get a good complete hour on it is hiring a licensed plumber Because anybody can be a plumber on Facebook I mean you can go on there and put your a doctor on Facebook, but you know, can you
can you can you can y'all pray with? Somebody's right. Can you diagnose stuff now? Right?
