Welcome to the first ever episode of Unspoken with Nick and Nick. Long time coming. This has been like two years in the making. It really has. It's wild. We started this conversation literally two years ago. Yeah. I think it was October. It would have been two years ago. It was. It was. And it's come to a million different things which became now this. Is totally epic. I mean, totally epic. The very the one like one of my fondest memories of this wasn't even in the shop, right? The barbershop. Yeah. It was. We met at what coffee shop was that right over here off Woodland like a like a scooter. It's like a scooter. Yeah. Or something. And we had the like this huge vision board of what we were going to do, what we wanted it to be. And we're not there. No. We are totally not where we thought we would be. In fact, I think it's better what we have to bring to the table now. And oh, yeah. With with the time that we've taken, whether it was planned or unplanned, you know, there's life. Right. I think it's the whole point. The whole point. Yeah. Which I think everything now what what we've waited for is finally here. And I feel like now it's going to be better than had we done this. 100 percent. Yes, it's going to be better. I think to some of the realization is like the whole point was to like really talk about real life and talk about like the things nobody really sees or the things that like people don't get to like it's like the non glamour side. Right. Like like everything is cool. Like it's fun to see these cool things or like it's fun to see like the day in the life of like a superstar or whatever. Like the real day in the life of a superstar. Sure. Because like they don't really give you everything. Right. Like that's kind of the whole point. Right. I mean, they do. And we want to go deeper than that. But just in a nutshell, you know, we we you and I have talked about this a lot one on one. We are. We're only see we only get to see what is on TV. Yes, absolutely. We get to know the athlete per se. And totally we the only thing that we see or or or the competitor. Right. It doesn't have to be an athlete. It can be a competitive veteran. Yeah. Right. Military veteran like me. Yeah. And what we had to give up. Yeah. The things that went into our training that most people they get to see the success. Yes. Like the human being behind. Exactly. Exactly. Like the stuff that people don't get to see the things that people don't get to hear. I think there are some things now like they get a little bit more in the weeds with it, but not nearly as much as like what we're talking about. Right. Like our goal is like it doesn't have to be an athlete. It doesn't have to be a musician. It doesn't have to be a movie star. Doesn't have to be any of these things. It just needs to be like the conversation of like real life things that people don't necessarily glamorize because the whole point is to understand like people as people. Right. Not people as assets. Yeah. Which I think is a huge bonus. Absolutely. And like I have this kind of like I have this this example that I hear all the time and like you know I'm a huge Yankee fan and I always kind of chuckle at it, but I also feel like really empathetic towards it because Harrison Bader you know he was center fielder for the Yankees and he's I see it on TV like he was sitting down in the clubhouse like after like a batting practice session or maybe like a training session or something and he's I think he was just like grabbing lunch in the clubhouse and he sees on like ESPN or Sports Center or whatever it's like Harrison Bader put on waivers and he's like I didn't even know. Oh right. Yeah. I remember this. And I think that it's unfortunate in general like a lot of times and I understand I totally understand the business. I think it's it sucks for the player right because they are just an asset really I mean truly and that's kind of tough because they don't get to not that they don't get to be like a real person they do but like they really have a job to do and no matter if you do that job well or not well it's like it all comes down to like dollars and cents. Yep. And I think that that's it's hard right there like they're very much transactional. Yeah. And I don't think a lot of people think about it that way. It's kind of like the feud that's going on with like the chiefs being I don't know and then now they lost right to the bills right like yeah that was a big deal and like I think if you're a chiefs fan like you didn't really care about the loss to the bills like I'm a huge chiefs fan. So I mean I'm like everybody thinks we're cheating. It's like it's just such a hilarious thing because it's like everybody's like well you know Patrick Mahomes this and that it's like Patrick Mahomes is just doing Patrick Mahomes does which is be a quarterback be a quarterback right on that note I did read something really neat and I think it was on Instagram and it said go ahead Bill's celebrate November because we'll celebrate in February. See that's great I love it. You know as a chiefs fan I want to be like heck yeah but also on the opposite side of that too like I would love to like hear Josh Allen's take on it too. Oh yeah absolutely. Because like everybody's like oh this is the Bill's Super Bowl and it's I don't think that's at all the case for the actual bills maybe the Bill's fan base. Right. I think that the like just knowing like how far I've gone in sports and whatnot like I never looked at one game and I was like this is the last game I'm going to care about. Yeah. That was never the case. Like I cared about every second of winning and I would write I would even venture to say like I was probably a I was probably a competitive jerk in comparison you know Tommy I think everybody kind of is in that because it's like especially if you go professional like you have a very like it's kind of that like life and death mentality. Sure. Like your whole world surrounds like doing that thing. Right. That's how that's your well-being like that's how you make money that's how you like do life. Right. Yeah. But then it's unfortunate because that's what people see you as right like that's what they see you know I remember walking into these small towns like playing in college you were like shortly there after college like walking in these small towns and like the only thing that those towns had it not that they were bad or anything but like they had this baseball team and they loved that baseball team and that's awesome but they come out and they just hate you because you are not on their team and like that's cool it is what it is but like at the same time it's also not cool because like I'm just a person too I just happen to do this thing really well right and I happen to be doing it against a team that you love. Yeah. Again not not bad it's human nature but like I just think that there should be some kind of concept of like human element somewhere. Yeah and how do we get that right. So hard. That's why we're here. Exactly. That's what we want. Like we want to expose that. Yes. Like expose like a person as a person. Yes. Like live to be the human that you are like I was just talking my dad about this I you know I saw a pop up on my phone at work and it was like you know how your phones like pop up memories for like photos. Yeah. I had that pop up and it was my baby girl and it was like you know I don't remember what it said like growing up like the title and things like they do growing up and I was like I text my wife I was like you know like because I'd had a few things lately that have been a little frustrating and I'm like you know none of this stuff matters like I get to come home to you guys I get to like live in this society that allows me to like live the way that I would prefer to live like it's cool and I get to do like a lot of things that maybe other people don't get to do whether they chose to not have a family or maybe they can't or maybe like people that maybe struggle with that. Right. So like I'm really lucky in that but like I love the fact that I can do that. Right. It just makes it. I love where this is going. It puts a lot of perspective on things and we talk about that a lot like I'm a dad I'm a husband I'm a son I'm a brother. Right. All those things are important to me and I think that like there's so much more that we don't see. We don't. Right. I love that you brought that up too because if I can real quick just go on those memories I just had one pop up too and it said days summer days at the field. Yeah. And it was all those memories from this past summer past spring popping up of my boys playing baseball and it's so cool and I'm getting goosebumps right now. Like yeah I get to do that. I just get to when those things happen to me I always think about I'm a huge office geek. Oh yeah. So like I always think back to Andy from the office and he's like you know I wish that somebody would tell you that you're in the good old days before you left them. And like that's like a major gut punch. It is because like I that that sums it up when you look at those memories 100 percent and I also I think to myself am I doing doing it right. Oh yeah. You know what I mean. Oh yeah. Like am I doing the right thing wrong in those moments that didn't allow those moments to be as beautiful as being portrayed on my memory. Oh absolutely. Absolutely. Or like I try to think back to like how I felt in that moment. Like I think I took for granted like I got to be home with my baby girl a lot just for remote work and stuff. Like it was easier. And like I don't know what I was thinking like was I just thinking about work and holding her like getting her to sleep or like was I you know like I try to think back to like what I felt and it's hard to think about that because I don't really remember. I just remember like how I feel now about that moment. Right. And I think that's what you hold on to. Yeah. Right. Is that exactly what the memory you have of it now is what you hold on to because that child's not going to remember what you were thinking. You're clearly not going to remember what you're thinking. But you know how you feel. Well and I think it's interesting. There's a huge shift in technology the way that it's made it now. Right. Like when we were let's say like even when I was a kid we didn't really have that much of a capability like our parents didn't have that ability to just whip out their phone and take a photo right. Remember everything. Sure. Forever. Right. Yeah. Like I'm going to be able to look at these photos like forever when my daughter is getting married many many many years from now after we discuss that because that's yeah you're not a girl dad. I'm not. Oh my gosh. It's a whole different eye. You know it's got to be. But but I do think as a boy dad. Oh right. I used to think like oh man I'm going to be so bad as a dad if I have girls because any guy that even looks in that direction I'm probably going to have to pile drive them. Right. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. But then I but then I had boys and I'm like dang I get I want to raise them to be genuinely nice dudes. No it's no right. All the things you have to worry right about the same things. It's just he won't have to carry the decision and what I mean by that is carry the decision right. Yeah. If you go to that you go that's a whole different. But I still find it difficult because I want look I'm not perfect none of us is right like I've been a jerk. I've been a competitive jerk. I bet you name it. Sure. And I don't want them to make the same mistakes that I made. Right. Right. But what I do want them to be is how I was right. And I was. I've always always have been respectful. Totally. No is no. Mm hmm. Hold the door open. Yeah. Right. Well and even a for a date. Yeah. And even on the opposite side of that like not even just treating like the women respectfully like that's that's like an expectation that I have in general like respect people as people first. But it's interesting because I think about that when I try to teach her about like just being a decent human in general right like bingo. How am I going to teach my kids that and how am I going to I'm going to teach my kids that knowing that I sometimes I'm not like these this perfect level headed human like nobody is but like there are things that my kids do that just drive me. Oh my gosh. Yeah. But it's like you know there's nothing that we're going to change about that and I don't want to but like I know that it's this is a great example like my is they're just hilarious and it's going to be one of those things like I'm I'm hoping that I can like my kids are still young enough to where like I'm hoping that I can just make an impact like this. So our pastor at our church told a hilarious story and he said he got a little heated with his kids and I don't remember how it all went down but his son goes Dad are you being tempted by the devil right now. Oh my Lord. I love it. And he just like I mean he just laid it to his he's like really this is the right way to go. He like looks at their mom. He's like this is what you're going to allow in this house. This is where you want to layer. This comes back exactly. And then of course like everything just like went back to normal. It has to like he's not angry or they can't. It's just one of the deals right. Like it's just another thing but it is hilarious. It's definitely something that you don't really think about or even things that you don't really like I mean you just you just don't really think about it right. It's like it's not like a pretend moon or anything but man it's classic. Oh I love that man. Kids kids are fun man. You know what I've always said about kids. I think I've told you this too and this isn't mine. I'm pretty sure it was my brother-in-law who said this before I had kids their their first child their daughter my niece. She is a goofball. I cannot believe that this girl is old enough to drink now. But but yeah such a goofball and it always had us laughing just the way she danced and the way all the shows that she wanted to watch and but there was this one time in particular I had brought up. We actually we were on a bow league. Oh yeah. Dart League and it was like live animals and you would pull the bow back and you'd shoot points right. And it was a league. Podunk Michigan is what we did. Sure sure. And I brought something up that she did and he goes you know Nick you know what having kids is like. It's like your best friend who's drunk all the time. They say hilarious things they say funny things. They always need you to bail them out of something. They pee all over themselves. They feel right. They're throwing up everywhere. They're pooping their pants like oh my gosh yes. And I've carried that forward and even even those trying times right where you're just like oh my gosh. You're going insane. Yeah. I think about that. Oh of course. He's just drunk right now. It's definitely a it's an interesting thing. That's for sure. So I'm I'm excited to see I'm excited to see how that all goes as I get older. Are you like this too though. Like every phase you get into is your new favorite. Oh yeah absolutely. Every phase was it. Was it maybe like. Modern family I think. OK. The TV show Modern Family. He has a interesting like kind of little monologue he says there and he's talking the whole family and it's got to be later in the scene and like the whole series but he says something about you know you have these kids and they're awesome and it's a lot of fun and every every new phase is like something you've never dealt with before. He's like but as soon as that child leaves that you have another kid that falls in line with it and he goes eventually you stop having kids. So like that stops happening. He's like but you always like all the things that you loved about the previous phase are now being filled in by the new baby and then they take like each other's place as you continue through these phases. He's like until one day somebody tells you that you never get to hold your babies again. And then it's just like I was like I know I know what you're talking about. I know this episode. Yeah. Oh my gosh. What a kick in the junk. It's a gut check. It is. It really is. And I think about that. I try not to think about that because I enjoy being with my babies and like just enjoy the time. But it's so hard not to think about that. Like every moment I'm like dang it. That's one thing I've been really happy about as a dad. Yeah. Being level headed enough to go like is trying as this this oh yeah season is your life. Like I don't. This is it. Especially with the second you know getting out of diapers it was like the greatest thing ever right. But right. I'll never change like my own diapers again. That's. But then they grew up and do goofy things like like your boys throwing in a random guitar. Yeah. Amplifier. The amp. We need a little counterweight here. And they just decided hey this will work. This will work. And you know what it does work. I mean it looks good. I guess it looks cool. Yeah. It could be so much worse. You know it's almost like we're talking about rock stars or something. I know. Kind of the vibe we're giving off right now. Yeah. The only thing we need now is like a Babe Ruth poster up here. Yeah. Yeah. And we're going to start picturing it now. Like this is just going to build out. You know. Yeah. It's just going to end up being cool. So hopefully more and more people start. Yeah. And hopefully more and more people stick around and check this out so you can see the evolution of what the studio is. Right. We have we have a lot of good things coming and yeah a lot of good things to talk about. And you know we're just kind of diving into what what our life has looked like right point. And we've only scratched the surface of it and maybe for some like that's not super exciting. I think that maybe the reality here is that like the exciting things are not portrayed as exciting because people tend to think that it's got to be a Super Bowl win. It's got to be a World Series win. It's got to be a new movie or a new concert to go to. All of those are true. Yeah. But there are other cool things too. Right. Like we don't. I'm a normal guy with a normal job. Yeah. I'm a normal guy with a normal job. I'm a normal guy with a normal job. I'm a normal guy with a normal job. I'm a normal guy with a normal job and a normal family and I'm not going to get it's unlikely for me to be a mega movie star. Right. It's very I'm going to go with impossible for me to win a Super Bowl. Pretty sure. Pretty sure it's not happening for me. So I can confidently say I will not be in those shoes. Right. I want to talk to people that are in those shoes. I think that would be incredible because I want to know what they really are like. Yeah. Because what happens after a game. Right. What happens before and after a game or even during the week. Right. What's happening. There's one thing that happens all the time. They come out and they ask you again. We're going to use Patrick my homes because it's the immediate example. You know Patrick what do you think about the game tonight. They were like man after all this. Yeah. You have to go home. Yeah. And you are going to you're going to see your family and what is that going to do to help you get back into groove for next week. Like what. What is that going to do as a recharge for you because of course of course they're going to go through their training protocols. Of course they're going to go through what the recovery is like. Right. Of course they're going to do all these things that they have to do to get ready for the next week. They're going to go to practice. They're going to make sure that they eat right. They're going to make sure that they're training to make sure that they're getting the recovery. All that is a given going to happen. And they ask I mean media asks these questions like it's like it's a guessing game. I'm going to go to practice this week. The changes next week. I'm going to go to practice coach is going to tell me what I'm going to practice and I'm going to focus on a couple of things that he tells me that I need to focus on and then I'm going to do that. Right. Next week's going to come and I'm going to play in the game next week and I'm trying to execute those things. Oh that's great. Thrilling stuff. You heard it here first folks. Patrick Holmes is going to go to practice. Right. Of course he is. Yeah. But when he gets home and he you know he sees his friends and he's like oh it's not the same for everyone. Like I know that. But for me if I have a rough day at work it's obviously different than having a rough day on a football field. Right. Is it. Is it. I mean when I boil that man down. Exactly. I mean his job is to get up and go to work at a football field to play the game that he was. He's paid to play. Right. I mean I'm playing that game in a different way right like I'm playing that game in a different way right. I'm not getting my ass kicked every week. Sure. But like I get a good recharge when I get home at night and I get to go and be with my kids and be with my my my wife and my mom and dad are down the street like you get to hang out with them. Right. Like that's that's awesome. Like those are big things. Those are cool. Yeah. I like that analogy you brought up to or not even analogy but that real life aspect to how do you recharge. Right. Like that's what I want to know man. You know I have the privilege of knowing a lot of these guys. Sure. Absolutely. That have come in and seen you that have come in and seen me and played on these teams. Right. So I've got to know that real side which has been amazing and I'm really going to work on getting them in here right. Right. And I know the story I want them to tell it 100 percent. It. And I'm not going to speak for them or out of turn but really neat to hear like yeah oh dude I show up and wife says hi and yeah cook dinner. Like because I got home from work. I just go to the next and then I prep. You know it is interesting to think about like that. You know there's not a that never gets talked about. Never. Yeah. And we. You and I think it was at that coffee shop man. I brought up I go you know the one thing that would really that that drives me crazy now because you and I met and we've talked about this for so long but the thing that I'm guilty of is I watch them whether it be baseball soccer football. Oh yeah. Oh must be nice. Oh yeah. And I think everybody is. Yeah. I have absolutely despise that thought now. Yeah. Because what is he or she given up right. It's a success right. I know it's so cliche to use but 20 percent is above water. Right. That's all we see. Yeah. When and who's the say and I'll we keep using Patrick but let's say Patrick has a bad game. Right. Sure. I have a bad day at work. Yeah. Maybe it's because my wife and I were bickering the kids weren't doing what they were supposed to that morning and it kind of spills over into work. It shouldn't but it did. Sure. Maybe Patrick had a bad game and that it's because that he was had a little spat with the wife or the kids were and maybe sportscasters do and the media does is they flip that and they go oh man he just looks bad. Yeah bad bad week bad week. You don't know what's on that guy's plate man. He can't number one he can't be way up here every single time. No no. And shame on us for thinking that but he is a little bit of a freaking nature. I mean the dude is unbelievable. Yeah he's an incredible athlete. But I I know we keep beating this to death or I do at least is like yeah that's the stuff and I don't want him to pinpoint. Oh yeah. I threw two interceptions that game because Brittany and I were we were fighting that's yours. Yeah. I'll let you keep that but like maybe you did have a bad day at home or maybe maybe you're getting ready you tell silent count you tell your lineman silent count and and you just totally go blank because maybe you remember oh shoot I didn't put the I've had these moments and you imagine that moment that Patrick Mahomes throws a pick and he's like crap I didn't turn off the yeah but but that's got to be real because I know players out there have probably been mid wind up there I didn't shut the coffee maker off dang it ball three yeah I can I can confidently say I've never had that happen but you never know those are the funny things like that I like athletics ended for me in high school and I'm not going to pretend that I was the greatest thing since slice bread but what I want to know is like does that go through your head because I know when I was on front lines I had things like that pop in my head right like what are what's I'm in Ramadi in Iraq and this truly happened I'd gotten a letter getting goosebumps I'd gotten a letter from home and it was just after 4th of July my parents were sending me pictures of the fireworks that went off and my mom had one of these really cool it wasn't a polaroid but it was a camera and it would take small pictures oh sure it would develop out of the camera but it wasn't a polaroid you didn't have to shake it or anything and my dad was kind of second guessing I found this out after but he was kind of second guessing having my mom send those because how is it going to make him feel honestly made me happy because I get to see that they are living life to see what I'm seeing sure but I'll never forget like thinking I wonder what they I kid you not dude right hand to god we're getting ready to throw down with the enemy and it came into my head like I wonder what they had to eat yeah were they snacking on dogs or burgers or you know and then I got to work yeah but that's got to happen yeah on a field right that's the stuff I love the random thoughts I love that stuff I do remember I was playing ball obviously college athlete like I said played ball in college played a little bit there's very very pretty afterwards and I think it's one of those things like you do have random thoughts about different things and I think some of that is like trying to clear your head sure like trying to not think about things like especially like and I mean I'm sure this is the same in every high level sport but like in baseball in particular it's a very individualized like tuned in for hitting or for pitching or anything like that like the smallest mistake is a big mistake yeah right and again I know that that's probably the same for other sports well it's magnified because in that moment the attention is all on you right right so like everything can change really quickly so you know trying to just tune out the world is harder than you think like not thinking yeah you're thinking harder about not thinking than you are just not thinking right totally especially in like big scenarios like you know we would have like scouting reports we'd go through and talk about like you know what is this guy throw what are the opportunities that we're gonna see in an at bat early in the game versus later in the game sure like if he goes this amount of time we're probably gonna see some of this stuff because the way he's gonna get tired if he hits this many pitches he's gonna do this right if you know if if they're you know this catchers catching this guy to the plate like you're thinking about all those things right right and kind of hard to shut that off then that doesn't even consider like is the defense shifted are you doing things that are different for the situation because now you've got a guy on second third and you have one out instead of two what am I gonna do differently here yeah elbow in short in long out I mean you're thinking about it all potential energy sacrifice you talked about is of course to not have to do that to not think about it and I think that's very accurate but then you alternatively think about very ridiculous other things bingo so you're just like it's it's so dumb yeah I live for that stuff yeah I'm such a geek for that stuff I just like vividly remember like thinking about like loving the going crazy yeah and I mean I don't think about it and I mean it's obviously easy to think about like all right he's probably gonna throw like a curveball here if he doesn't throw a curveball I'm gonna look like a freaking idiot right like those are easy to do but then you're like I'm just jamming the whole time play you know like whatever just thinking about it and I mean it's just that's cool that's exactly what I want it's just humanizes a pretty vast group that is not really thought of as human as human at all they're ones and zeros they're stats they're numbers on a on a page and that super sucks for them because all they've done their whole life is basically try to do this thing that they are trying to do but that comes with the weight of people having very I'm gonna go with like intrusive kind of issues yeah right like just like I mean I keep throwing out you know Patrick Mahomes but Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelsey their houses were just broken into oh dude I know like really within 48 hours of each other that was like a very planned deliberate thing it's like come on you know like that wasn't just a whoopsie no and and and the home number one it takes guts I will recognize that number two sure how do you get in alright to those homes has you got somebody had like a zip line or something I'm telling you right now man I am not breaking into Kelsey's home break it first of all I'm not he seems like a big teddy bear but I am not no no heck no but especially not that guy yeah I mean come on man oh man of course Patrick's so nice he'd probably try to talk you out of it he seems like he's so nice then he's like come on man let's think about this let's chat but otherwise it'd probably be like the opposite he's like man you're so dumb exactly just tell you how wrong you were because like he's so competitive that it's just like no you could have done better you could have done so much better let's go to the drawing board yeah let's try this again yeah I've got some I've got some thoughts about this yeah we clearly haven't thought this through oh man yeah that whole thing that was pretty sad to hear I don't like that I don't like anybody's house getting broken into but you know they just thought about it as like again an asset yes it's the thing like I know that if they get to that house they've got something really valuable it's like that sucks you know another thing that really irks me too with anybody competitive higher up in the food chain with any company or professional athlete is just how transactional they are right oh yeah yeah there's going to be that year hey you've taken us a long way we appreciate it but we're going a different direction now yeah you're just kind of yep you know sorry for the little sound effect there but you're just but in a lot of ways you know a lot of ways like that that just brings to mind like the Albert Pujol situation right like he ended up in in Los Angeles right and it became like Rome run hitters of all time right and like of course like St. Louis has a statue of him because he's awesome because like at the same time it's like it did fizzle and it would have been awesome for him to be able to to do everything for his career right in St. Louis and I know that it didn't play out that way but like he was treated well at the end I don't think that it was poor or like you know so I mean things like that but that's just kind of what it brings to mind right yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I did get sour with all that too because my boy McGee didn't get that send off yeah yeah another one of those greatest hitters of all time oh yeah and I'm like okay here here comes man the send off gosh I just remember I remember old school Marlins I think about that a lot and it makes me think about guys like that like because I remember like the whole Don Trail Willis Don Trail I haven't heard that name in forever yeah like big time detrain man like yeah he full on was like you don't you just I mean think about it like such an incredible talent and he's just gone gone right it is true it's very transactional I can't even imagine how it's got a feel to is you put every ounce of energy into something your entire life oh yeah and just one day you know it's one thing I try to tell the kids that I coach I don't really coach anymore I step in in the fall especially with my oldest boys team sure and I'm more of a hype guy so I give them a nice quote you know tell them what to do and I had all the boys assemble on me in the dugout and I said you know there's gonna come a day when this is your last game oh yeah and you may not even know it and you won't know it until you're my age sure and you get to look back and you go I remember my last game yeah and I do I honestly do and I told them I really want to be 12 again oh yeah to come out and play with you guys because I would love to play with you guys I'm aged out I can't do it anymore and look at all the dads that are here look at all the moms the competitive moms maybe who play softball play for them yeah play like they're out there with you have fun just enjoy it whatever any number of things that happen right yeah you don't think about it but it is crazy like no I get to go play today it's pretty fun it's pretty fun it's a good day you get to play baseball yeah and and like taking it back to professional sports like they get to get paid for it and like yeah it became a job which it probably very much does but like it's also pretty cool it's pretty cool yeah I mean I'm not gonna lie there's a reason they're exceptionally talented yeah to be able to play at that level and be able to watch that is incredible well and I think the there's something to be said about the effortlessness right yeah oh man so like I'm so like I'm so interested to figure out like how is that effortlessness transferred over to other parts of life because of that like just because of their mindset and the way that they operate like how has that happened something's changed somewhere in their brain to say like I can do these things but it's gonna be really easy or it's gonna be really hard it could be really hard but I'm gonna do it and it's gonna be done well yeah and that's just what it's gonna be yeah and if it's not done well then I'm gonna fix it and I'm gonna do it this way next time and it's gonna be better right and I feel like that happens with a lot of people outside of sports for sure oh absolutely and I mean there's just people that are incredibly talented a lot of things but like it's it's interesting to see yeah you know it's so cool such a cool thing I like that yeah well it feels like a good spot take a quick break what do you think let's do it let's take a break stretch legs what's up what's up we're back we back so all right that first half that was a lot of explaining what we want to do what we've been thinking about for the last two years getting this thing off the ground right I think we'd run out thank you right so now I think the best way to get moving forward is to really start that like let's do it learn about each other a little more right same thing with what we want to do with anybody that comes on the show I want to learn about these people I want to learn about them for real I don't want to learn about what makes them them what makes them tick what cool things go on right I can look at anybody like I'm Nick I'm a Steve and I work on the networking I know I could tell you that right that's the whole point I think is like how often do we walk up to someone and introduce ourselves I'm like hi I'm Nick I'm a project manager right right right often right I'm Nick I'm a dad I'm a husband I'm a brother we might as well. My favorite color is red. Great. Nice to meet you. My name is also Nick and funny enough my favorite color is blue. Look at that America. Nailed it. Nailed it. So here's what's gonna happen next. We have a series of questions for each other. It's gonna be epic. It's gonna be epic. It may not be epic but it's gonna be fun. I'll start. I'll ask a question. You give me your answer. Give me your honest answer. Yep. You used to go it. Ask me a question and we'll kind of flip flop back and forth for a few minutes. Perfect. Figure it out. We'll figure it out. People will get to know too that I'm I push the envelope with humor a lot. Oh sure. So I very rarely will take anything seriously. You do a much better job at taking things seriously. I I think in this this relationship on this podcast, I'm gonna be more the color commentator. I love it. I love it. I love it. So his questions, what I'm getting at people is his questions are actually gonna be like, wow and mine are gonna be like, oh, he's cute. But I think the fun part is like there's definitely questions that are not like and this is this is just a random sampling of questions. It's like this is not this is just coming out of our brain. So this could be anything like in the future. This could be anything like I just want to understand people as people. Yes. So that's the most important thing. And I think that asking some of these stupid ridiculous questions is the best way to understand who you are. Absolutely right. Like your first like I want to know your first instinct. Like what's your first thought right? Like tell me that like these are almost like icebreaker questions and I want to ask these to people because I think it's gonna be hilarious. It's gonna be great. It's gonna be hilarious. It's gonna teach us a lot about people to understand them. Right. Like I just want to know that. I think it's cool. So without further ado, here we go. Let's let's let's get into rapid fire. I think my first question is hilarious. Oh great. Here we go. All right. If animals could talk, which of those animals would be the rudest? Oh, honestly, I think monkeys. Oh man. No. What monkeys monkeys are rude man, but they're so smart. They are really smart. I think that's what makes them rude. That's probably true. They would. They would be jerks, right? They would just be like humor. They just like put their hand up like no, I'm done with you. I'm done with your crap. I was going to say like a llama. Oh, dude. Llama would be a total jerk. Yeah, I agree. Hopping around. Lama camel. Yeah, they don't like you. They just so condescending just like yeah, look at you over there. I mean, I totally think I totally think. Yeah, you know, I'm going to stick with monkey, but hey, that's a fair that is a that's a great answer with llama. I don't know. Maybe not a llama. Maybe maybe a shark like a bull shark. They're just having a bad day. See sharks though, man. It's like we're infringing on them. I would be mad too. I know I don't go like I don't expect people to come into my house and make it out easy. No, I agree exactly. I do not go into a llama pin. No, I don't just make my it's good in there. Yeah, in theory, it's great. Now, my wife would definitely go hang out with some llamas. She's obsessed with llamas. I'm OK. Well, now this is a whole different turn. I know we turned it. This is gone. She's not rude. She's not rude. OK, so we've we've divulged the serious information. Your wife is rude and she hangs out. Yeah, that's right. Some llamas are by by definition, the rudest. Now I get it. I understand now. It's making sense. It's all it's all adding up. That's why she rolls her eyes when you come in the house. OK, see now it's all starting to line up. She does it for me too. I get it. I get it. Oh, this guy again. Yeah, another Nick. She has to deal with them all the time. So much Nick. That's great. This is great. Oh, dude, you're going to love this one. All right. I'm in far away. I'm going to shoot. If we had three ears, where would the third ear be? There is no way for that to have a good answer. I mean, it would have to be like on the back of your head or something, right? Like because you have to be able to hear behind you. Like if somebody were to sneak up on you, you're unsneakable. That's a really smart answer. It's got to be like it's got to be like on the back. It would have to be on the back. Yeah, because you are no longer. You are no longer. Surprisable on paper that that was except for a pretty funny question for Prius. If you keep her under five miles an hour, she's silent. So, you know, that's a great answer. Yeah, you'd have to keep it on the back of the head. You would have to. Yeah, there's no other place. There's no way. That was kind of a bum question, man. I can do better. I got I got really logical on that. Otherwise, I think you just put it somewhere stupid, like on a shoulder. That was you put it like right here, like right up on your forehead. I don't know, man. I get really pissed off when I hit my head anyway, and it always seems to happen, like getting into my car. And if I hit my ear, I'm like more angry. Yeah, so like I hit my third year on my forehead. I'm just going to be super pissed. You know, this is reminding me of this whole rapid fire right now. I just saw the funniest thing, and this is what my algorithm on Instagram looks like. Of course, it had this video of different animals and it said what animals would look like if their eyes were on the front of their head like you. Oh, my gosh, it was showing here ridiculous and it showed a camel and it showed just look stupid. Oh, my gosh, dude. And I'm watching it just dying laughing. And I know I now sound like I'm five, but absolutely with reasons with reason. See, that's hilarious. I'm all for that. Now. I just need to go find this. I have to find this side of the gram. I will. I'll actually send the video to you and misplaced eyeballs. I sent it to myself. I love it. I love it. I'm here for that. I'm always here for that. All right. What is your go to joke? You walk up to somebody and you haven't really met them before. Maybe you have in passing and you were just like, Hey, I got a joke for you. This is it. I got it. Okay. And it's so juvenile and it drives my boys crazy because I do it a lot. They're like, Yeah, tell me a joke. And I tell them this joke. Why the chicken cross the road? I don't know because so stupid. That is so dove. You can't not laugh at it, though. I know it's the thing. You can hear that a million times and every time and I love you. I love the juvenile aspect. Like you said, because, you know, my niece the other day, she broke out the instant classic and it's been a classic for decades centuries. I'm going to go with she broke out the knock knock joke. So knock knock. Who's there? Interrupting cow. And I was like, I lost it. I lost it, man. And she just thought it was hilarious how many times I've heard that. And I just it just yes, it was like the first time. Well, you have to put you have to play it to like, you know, here's my sweet little five year old niece. Just like all she wants in the world is just to get a giggle. Yeah. And she just thought it was hilarious that I, you know, fell for the joke. And she just like ran up and like tucked her face into into my sister was just like, I got it. So funny. So funny, man. I love it. I love it. That's a good one. It is a good one. All right, man, you're ready. Another one. I was conceived ready. OK, so this is actually one of my favorite questions to ask because I have asked clients sitting in my chair. It's a good it is a good ice breaker. OK. If you were a car, what would you be? I feel like I want to answer this two ways because I feel like what I what I want to be and what I am are two totally different answers. What would you be? What would I be? Oh, yeah. What would you be? Well, you ask it like that. I would probably be the same thing that I was going to say anyway. That's not true. No, I need to think about that. If I was a car, I would probably be like some kind of cool SUV. I don't know, like a Ford Raptor. There you go. Now you're talking like truck style like, yeah, like man stuff like I punch bad guys and I kiss girls. See, so when I see people in the I know that's weird, but I do that. You never know. You are a Raptor Bronco. What a Bronco, the one of the new Ford Bronco Raptors. OK, OK. I didn't know that was a thing. Yes, it is a thing. And the reason you are the Bronco Raptor, you got speed in there if you want it. Sure. Right. But you're all about climbing it. Yeah. So that's how I, you know, that's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to figure out how to Yeah. So that's how I I'm for it. So then what would you be? I'd be a Hellcat. I cross the line a lot. Yeah. And I almost get in trouble a lot. I am all go. No slow. I like that. I like that. See, and I can tell you knew this because you rehearsed this. This is one hundred percent. You know this. I know this question before. Yeah. Yeah, I like I am one hundred percent of Hellcat. OK, OK. Yep. All right. Well, I'm down with it. I'm down with it. I like it. I like where I like where your mind's at with these. All right. If there was a book about your life, what would it be called? Oh, man, the OK, I think I've got this. He he's trying. He's trying. Yeah. And it would be that is like super cryptic. No, I don't I don't think I mean it the cryptic way, right? Like I try to live my life now. Sure. And I know trying is like kind of vague, but I've done things in my life fair that are pretty. Sure. Right. And it's been hurtful and it's been hurtful to myself. Sure. And it's a book that I want my kids to read. Yeah. And I think you have like there's so much that like we have not even like you said, scratch the surface about like your background and details that are, you know, whether those get shared or not, there's a lot of layers. I have some baggage sure, which I think everybody does. We all have baggage. Yeah. And, you know, the I'm just I'm trying, right? Every day I wake up and I to my demons from my past. Not today. I'm not not going not going down this road today. Sure. Today I'm trying. Sure. And I wake up every day. Yeah. And say I don't necessarily need to be better than I was yesterday because yesterday was pretty good. Sure. Right. So let's just try. You got to keep being good. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I know that was kind of a vague title, but that's the only thing that comes in my mind is I just try. Yeah, man. That's it. Do what you can. Yep. And my 100 percent today might be a different 100 percent tomorrow. That's a fact. And I'm OK with that and being OK with that. Yeah. I think being OK with that is the biggest thing. Yeah. That's definitely true. Yeah. And I read this really cool quote within the last week and it hit home for me and I think it hit home for not even just men, but people. Sure. There comes a point and this is this was the quote. There comes a point in a man's life when the most important things to him are silence, family and getting better. Getting better, getting better, baby. That's it. And I love that. And that can be taken to women, too. Oh, yeah. And we all because I think we all and I now that I'm in my 40s, you know, I'm a young 40. I'm kind of finding that like I have nothing to prove anymore. Sure. Other than am I OK with my family every day? If there was a camcorder following me, am I OK with my family every day watching that movie? Oh, sure. Sure. And I always say, yeah, I am. Yeah. My wife might get a little mad at my language, though. Oh, 100 percent. Other than that. I get that same conversation every day. Yeah. And I don't it's so funny because my wife, like she doesn't love when my language comes out. Like I also don't I don't try to. It's not like I just added in for extra like, you know, make it sound super fruitful and hilarious. Like I don't care about that. It just happens. I'm just like that kind of that world was what I was like in, you know, being in a baseball dugout. There's a whole different world. Oh, yeah. I'm trying to make an excuse. Like that's not. Oh, dude, you're you're speaking my language. I know. Yeah. Yeah. And sorry. And I think it's definitely a funny topic for sure. I was like, really? I know. Yes. Really. Watch your mouth. OK. OK. It's going to be awful hard. I'll watch it. It's going to be rough. I'll try. He's trying. Exactly. I feel like I need to write a parallel book that's called just to T.O.O. There you go. There you go. There you go. I love it, dude. Yes. Yes. Oh, man. Yeah, dude. Heck, yeah. All right. I got one more question for you. Fire away. You good? All right. This one is telling. OK. This question is telling. OK. It's going to tell me a lot about either I'm quitting or I'm going to keep going. I'm joking. I'm here. I'm with it. OK. You're stuck on a deserted island. Oh, boy. Picture this. You're going to be there for 60 days. You're going to get rescued in 60 days. OK. You can only eat one of the three things that I'm going to mention. OK. Bacon, hamburger, or chicken. Which one for 60 days? Like, I have access to these. Like, I don't have to go out. No, they're going to be dropped off to you. You're basically surviving for 60 days on an island. Basically, what I'm asking you is for 60 days, what do you have to have that you just cannot live without for 60 days? Which one? I can live without anything for 60 days. True. Anything. Yeah. Like, I... Well, there's a couple things. That's fair. Water. I'm going to need food. I got to, like, pee or something for 60 days. Like, that's going to have, you know, yeah. But you get it. You get it. But the point is, yeah, like, I could pretty much willpower myself through for, like, 60 days. I would have to... I would have to say I'd probably go with the burger. Oh, my man. Yeah. Dude, that would have been my answer. I would have to probably go the burger. Yeah. Bacon's just going to tear you up. Bacon's going to destroy you. I love bacon. Chicken, you get burnt out. Yeah, you do, man. But burger... A burger, you can get burnt out. Like, a burger can, like, not sound good, but it can always be good. Yeah. Whereas, like, even an overcooked burger is better. Better. Like, it's... Dude, I'm totally with you on this one. Yes, 100%. Hamburger has to be. It's got to be in there. There's no question about that. It's got to be in there. That's what I would go with. Yep. Like the answer. I have two left. Oh, dude. All right, fire. What is something that, no matter what, everybody looks dumb doing? The YMCA at a wedding. A hundred percent. I didn't even know that I agreed with you until right now. Yes. That is so true. So true. It's so dumb. Everybody looks dumb doing it, but they collectively look dumb doing it. They do. So they're happy about it. Yeah. Like, nobody's just like, look at that idiot. Yeah. No. Look at all these idiots. Look at all these idiots, because you always have that one person. Yes. That can't do C the right way. That is so true. So true. And the Y, you have some... You know, they're just barely bringing their hands above their shoulders. Yeah. And you've got those middle-aged... They are just going for it. In it. Yes. They grew up with that. They grew up. That came out when they were kids, and that was everything for them. Yep. So they hear it, and that's absolutely the classification. That's that group of like, this is my jam. Because my mom is that person. Yeah. Like, a hundred percent that happens. Yeah. So funny. Oh, that's great. It's a good question. I like that. Village people. Why not? I love that. That's a great answer. All right. Oh, here it comes. Here comes a good one. My great white buffalo. This is a great question. This is a great question. I might have answered... I might have asked you this before. I think I have. But either way, it's hilarious. If you were a mythological creature, what would you be? And what sound would you make? Oh my gosh, man. I'm going to have to say a dragon. A dragon? Yeah. That's pretty rad. I like dragons. They rule it. I get to come up with a sound now, don't I? Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's absolutely you do. I don't think I'm going to roar because of the flame. You got to get that fire coming. Yeah. Fire breathing dragon. I should clarify. Fire breathing dragon. I like that. Yeah, that's what I pictured. That's exactly what I pictured this happening like. Oh my gosh, man. See, this is a moment. This is an opportunity missed, okay? Because where you screwed up was not going with Centaur. Because your upper half is just you. You just sound like this. Yeah, dude, that's so true. Oh man, I thought too much on that one. You thought way too much. Yeah, exactly, man. It's a thing, dude. Oh my gosh. I love it. It's a thing, man. It's great. So this is up to you. I feel like to keep the real element alive, you should probably have one of or both of your boys come in and ask you a question. Okay. So that you can get a real answer as a dad to the sons. Okay. Go get them. Pause. Pause. Hey, we're back. Welcome back. Welcome. So we have a really cool thing that's about to happen because we are at the studio in the house, which is also my wife's office. But yeah, we've got a cool moment. So both my boys are here. I've got Madden and Hensley. I almost said Madden's 12. Madden is 10 years old. He's in fourth grade. And I have Hensley who's 12 and he's in seventh grade. And they are going to ask me a question and get a real answer from dad. Yeah, that's the plan anyway. That's the plan. And we might as well keep the realness coming. It's the whole point. It's the things we want to know, right? It's the whole point. As real as we can get right here. Absolutely. So I'm going to have Madden, my 10-year-old go first. Madden, take the mic, baby. Ask away, man. What do you read when you go poop? We leave it to the 10-year-old to ask the question first. So I actually do one of two things, buddy. I'm either reading or playing a game. And I'm usually playing like a slot machine game. Of course it is. And yeah, Hensley. Is it one of those ones that you would promote online where you'd be like, if you do this, like you go to one of those restaurants and you're like, I could make real cash fast. But wait, I don't have your tip, Mr. Waiter. Let me play my game really quick and make seven bucks. Oh, Instagram. It's so stupid. I love it. And what I will read is not necessarily classified as a verified source, Wikipedia. Sure. Open source, buddy. I read random things. Oh, me too. A random reader. And it'll be Napoleon Bonaparte, or it'll be George Washington, or how the state's got their shapes. I mean, I just read all those random things. So it's random things. Honestly, to keep my mind off what I'm doing and just keep it relaxed. Yes. That's it. I'm down with it. Madden, that was a great question, buddy. Great question. So you don't want to know when you're pooping? No, I don't think it's because I don't want to know. I just want to stay relaxed. And that was a great question, buddy. It was a great question. Sorry, Hensley. You're not going to be on video, but hey, we got the last couple of minutes. All right. Here we go, Hensley. Of course, the camera died. Of course, we'll make it work. We'll make it work. Yeah, we're still on the air, baby. It's live, baby. We do it live. Wait, is it live right now? It's live right now, dude. It's as live as live can be. Hensley, what do you think, buddy? What question do you have for dad? I don't have one. I'll look one up on Google. Oh, you did? Hey, that's fine. I'll look one up right now. This kid's so honest. Fire away, man. This kid's so honest. I'm game with it. Hey, I'm good with it. Whatever you got. If you want to ask dad a question, what would it be? I love how real and random you are. That's how I know that you're my son. Is your questions are just like, bloop, madden, easy. I punch it. I feel like there's a story. There is a story here. I got one. OK, go. What's your favorite memory from your childhood? Oh, that's a great question. Oh, my gosh, dude. Taking it deep. OK, honestly, my favorite childhood memory is, and I think you know this, Hensley, grandma, my grandma, who passed away almost a year ago, I used to go up, and in the summertime, and well, not just me, all of us grandkids used to go up and spend a couple weeks with her. Sure. And she had, most grandmas had a garden. My grandma had a garden, but it was like three acres. OK. This garden was huge, and we would just help her pull weeds. We would help harvest. Sure. She would yell at us for eating everything before it went in. And she used to say, OK, three in the basket, one in your belly. And I'm painting this whole picture of my grandma right now, because I think everybody needs to hear it. She's the sweetheart of a lady. And that is not my memory. So let me get to my memory. We were going golfing. OK. And we were running a little late for tea time. And you know the story. Yeah. This is when I found out that my grandma had a lead foot. We were going to Tamarack Golf Course, which is in northern Michigan. And we get on the highway. And I kid you not, dude, I look over at her speedometer, and we're doing like 91. Nice. OK. My grandma was a young grandma. OK. My parents had me pretty young. And so it was very young. Thank you, Hensley. Are we talking like a 17-year-old grandma here? She. So I am 42. And my grandma passed away last year at 86. So she was a pretty young grandma. I mean, she was in her 60s when I was a teenager. Yeah. But what was cool about this trip, anyway, is I learned a whole new side of my grandma. She's a road rager. People are getting in her way. And she was yelling, you know, like, get out of my way, fuddy-duddy. Oh, man. Oh, yeah, dude. I mean, I feel like I need to, like, don't let everybody hear that. Fuddy-duddy. Which, to her, was horrible. She was probably listening to, like, those old timey songs. It was, like, totally rebellious. Totally. Yeah. And we make it to the golf course. And this also ties into the favorite memory. That woman shot two over. Nice. On that nine holes for that league that she was playing. Basically, she was late for her league tee time, and I was playing behind them. Yep, yep, yep. And came in, and she's all flustered before she starts golfing. You know, we're road raging the whole way. And she shoots two over par. And I'm like, how did you do that? Yeah. Did she get first or something? Yeah, she usually won her league every year. Grandma was an athlete, man. Who got first, like, in the league? I don't know. Probably some other fuddy duddy. Yeah, some other fuddy duddy out there. So yeah, childhood, that's my favorite memory. That's awesome. Yeah, that was pretty neat. That's the move, man. That's cool. That's a good question, Hensley. I appreciate that. Don't mind the noise from the 10-year-old. Eating a popsicle out of a cardboard box. Oh, my gosh, man. He's crazy. Classic kid. Love it. I love it. Well, guys, thanks for coming and asking your dad some questions. That's the whole point right there. Yeah, you're welcome. Yeah, thanks. All right. Well, it's been fun, guys. You're welcome. It's been a blast. And that, I think, just about wraps up the first episode of, like we said, a very long and daunting process to get this bad boy up and running. And you know what? Let's see if we can make this thing happen. We are here. I love it. Look at us go. Yay. Look at us. High five it, baby. High five it, baby. I wish they had the high five on camera, but our camera died. I know. Yeah, that was weak. But hey, we make do with what we got. We do. And while we're on air here real quick, I just want to let you all know how much I appreciate this guy sitting next to me. We did it. We did it. We did it, man. And it doesn't stop here. This is only going to get better from here. Yeah. Tune in, man. It's going to be fun. It's going to be a fun ride. We got a lot of good ideas that we think are going to really make an impact and do some cool things with some cool people. So with that being said, if there's anybody that we can try to reach out to that y'all think would enjoy to hear, let us know. Gosh, that'd be great. Yeah, let us know. Hit us up on Instagram. And I've got an email somewhere. We need to build this out a little more. But we're going to figure it out. We're getting there. We'll make it work. Once we get that out there, we're definitely going to start getting an opportunity to make requests, topic requests, ideas for the show, things that we can go out and do, and just ways to talk to people and get these things out loud. So it's definitely a cool topic, something that we really want to do and think that is a lot of fun. So we want to share that with you guys. Yeah, absolutely. I'm looking forward to it. Me too, man. It's awesome. So thanks for listening. Stick around for some more cool things. And we'll see y'all on the next one. We will see you. Thank you all.
