The Daily Blade: Joby Martin & Kyle Thompson
#138 - Kyle Thompson // St. Patrick’s Breastplate: Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of Doom
We explore St. Patrick's Breastplate prayer, focusing on the line about Christ's return for final judgment and how this ancient Irish prayer provides strength for Christians facing spiritual battles.
• St. Patrick's prayer begins with "I rise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity"
• The prayer acknowledges Christ's baptism, crucifixion, resurrection, ascension and return for judgment
• Acts 17 explains God has appointed a day to judge the world through Christ
• 1 Thessalonians 4:16 describes Christ's descent with angelic command and God's trumpet
• Revelation 20 depicts the great white throne judgment where books are opened
• The prayer concludes by affirming Christ's presence in every direction and aspect of our lives
• Those whose names aren't written in the Lamb's book of life are compelled to give their lives to Christ

Welcome to the Daily Blade. The Word of God is described as the sword of the Spirit, the primary spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil. Your hosts are Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson, and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up.
Speaker 2:All week we've looked at an Irish prayer from St Patrick called St Patrick's Breastplate or the Deer's Cry. So let me read the beginning of it here I rise today through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through belief in the threeness, through confession of the oneness of the creator of creation. I rise today through the strength of Christ with his baptism, through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial, through the strength of his resurrection with his ascension, through the strength of his crucifixion with his burial, through the strength of his resurrection with his ascension, through the strength of his descent for the judgment of doom. So today we're going to key in on this line I arise today through the strength of his descent for the judgment of doom. In Acts 17, luke records Paul addressing the Areopagus in Greece, and verses 30 and 31 quotes Paul as saying the times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead. And with that you know. If you're wondering, what that judgment would look like, paul actually says this in 1 Thessalonians 4, verse 16. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel and with the sound of the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
Speaker 2:So then we see in Revelation 20, we see the apostle John talk about the judgment before the great white throne. So let's start in verse 11. Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence, earth and sky fled away. Let's start in verse 1. Dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more. Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore. For the former things have passed away. And he who was seated on the throne said behold, I am making all things new. Also, he said write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true. And he said Now, if that sounds scary to you, maybe it's because you know which book your name is written in. If your name is not in the Lamb's book of life, then I compel you to give your life to Christ right now, right at this moment. Relinquish control of your life, transfer your faith from yourself to Jesus for the payment of a sin, debt that you could never pay back One last time.
Speaker 2:Let's close out the week by reading the end of St Patrick's breastplate Go in strength, gentlemen. Christ with me, christ before me, christ behind me, christ in me, christ beneath me, christ above me, christ on my right, christ on my left. Christ when I lie down, christ when I sit down, christ when I arise. Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me. Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me. Christ in every eye that sees me. Christ in every ear that hears me. Amen. Thank you for your attention this week. Stay sharp.
