The Daily Blade: Joby Martin & Kyle Thompson
#189 - Shane & Shane // Psalm 34
Shane and Shane guest host this special musical episode of The Daily Blade, leading listeners through a reflective and worshipful exploration of Psalm 34 through both reading and song.
• Psalm 34 contains different messages for different needs—freedom from shame, deliverance from troubles, and provision in times of lack
• Romans 8:32 reinforces the promise that God will "graciously give us all things"
• Those who seek the Lord experience no true lack, even when circumstances suggest otherwise
• The act of magnifying God helps put our problems in proper perspective
• We're invited to "taste and see that the Lord is good" rather than wasting resources on things that don't satisfy
• Worship through song allows us to both praise God and simultaneously bring our needs before Him
Join us tomorrow as we continue exploring the Psalms together through music and meditation.

Welcome to the Daily Blade. The Word of God is described as the sword of the Spirit, the primary spiritual weapon in the Christian's armor against the forces of evil. Your hosts are Joby Martin and Kyle Thompson, and they stand ready to equip men for the fight. Let's sharpen up.
Speaker 2:Hey, shane here and Shane, you're listening to the Daily Blade, so we're going to be your guests all week. Come on, it's going to be amazing and we're going to do a little singing, which is different, but we're pumped about it and we're going to be going through the Psalms All week. All week, and today we're going to be hitting Psalm 34. So enjoy. If you need the words, they're there for you.
Speaker 4:Let. If you need the words, they're there for you. Let's just sing this chorus magnify, magnify the Lord with me, come exalt his name Together. Glorify the Lord with me, come exalt His name forever. Forever.
Speaker 3:There is so much in Psalm 34. Every time I sing it or look at it, I feel like I get something else out of it, and so often, when we sing it or when we're about to sing it, I just read it and I feel like that's a really great way to just allow the spirit of God to just say what the spirit wants to say to you today. So I'm going to read the first 10 verses or so and then we're going to sing it. So here we go, psalm 34, verse 1. I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the Lord. Let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me. Let us exalt his name together, for I sought the Lord and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all of his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Oh, fear the Lord, you, saints, for those who fear him have no lack. The young lions suffer want and hunger, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Speaker 3:Let me reiterate that last verse with Romans 8.32. He who did not spare his own son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also, with him, graciously give us all things? Young lions suffer wanton hunger, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Well, he who didn't spare his own son, he gave him up for us all. How much more with him also, will he not graciously give us all things? There is no lack for those who know Jesus. You might feel lack, but there is no lack. Everything that you are looking for is found in Christ Jesus, your Lord.
Speaker 3:And so we're going to sing, we're going to magnify him, we're going to cling to some of these lines. You know, even as we sing it, I can see maybe you're dealing with shame today and you hear the line as we sing. Those who look to him are radiant. Their faces shall never be ashamed. Just ask him for that. Ask him that your face would be radiant, that he would take away your shame today with what he did on the cross for you. He died for it. And maybe when we sing, this poor man cried and the Lord heard him and saved him out of his troubles. Maybe that's your prayer, so you can turn it right back up to the Lord and just pray it.
Speaker 3:Lord, I'm poor today. I'm the poor man. Would you save me out of my trouble today? And he is that for us. He is, uh, he is there for us to cast our cares upon him, um, and he is available and can handle all of it. And so, as we magnify him, we still can come to him in prayer. So can we do it together? Let's sing this Psalm 34. I sought the Lord and he answered me. I sought the Lord and he answered me and deliver me from every fear.
Speaker 4:Those who look on in are radiant. They'll never be ashamed, never be ashamed. This poor man cried and the Lord heard me and saved me from my enemies. The Son of God surrounds His saints. He will deliver them. He will deliver them.
Speaker 4:Magnify, magnify the Lord with me. Come, exalt His name together. Glorify the Lord with me. Come, exalt His name. The Lord with me, come. He told His name forever. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, blessed is he who hides in you. Fear the Lord. Oh, fear the Lord. Oh, all you saints, he'll give you everything, give you everything.
Speaker 4:Magnify the Lord with me. Come, exalt His name together. Glorify the Lord with me. Come, exalt His name forever. Let us bless the Lord. Let us bless the Lord Every day and night. Never-ending praise. May our incense rise. Let us bless the Lord Every day and night. Never-ending praise, never-ending praise. May our incense rise. Let us bless the Lord Every day and night, never-ending praise. May our incense rise. Let us bless the Lord Every day and night, never-ending praise. May our incense rise, risen, crucified. The Lord with Thee, come, exalt His name together. Glorify the Lord with thee, come, exalt his name forever. Taste and see that the Lord is good, that the Lord is good. Oh, blessed is he who has it now. Oh, fear the Lord. Oh, all you saints, he'll give you everything, you'll give you everything, you'll give you everything. Heaven sings. My soul must say your God to thee how great thou art, how great thou art. Then sings my soul, my Savior, god, to lead, how great Thou art, how great thou art.
Speaker 3:Come and magnify the Lord with me. Let us exalt his name together. Come and bless the name of the Lord. Let his praise continually be in your mouth. Today, come, taste and see that the Lord is good. He is good, he is good. Take advantage of all of the graces and the mercies of God. Drink at the well, pull up a seat at the table, taste and see that the Lord is good.
Speaker 3:Why do we waste our money on what doesn't satisfy? Why do we waste our money on what doesn't satisfy? Why do we spend our time and what doesn't fulfill our heart? Come, come and listen, delight yourself in the richest of foods, taste and see that the Lord is good. He is good and we exalt your name today, high above anything in our lives. We exalt your name, we magnify your name, and thank you for the gift of doing that together in song today, in Jesus' name, we pray amen, amen, amen, amen. Thank you so much. Friend, brother, sister, we're running sick here, but that's okay. We can still sing, still go for it. We can still go for it. You know, the only one that I know in life that doesn't lose his voice when he gets sick is Shane Everett. Here. He only has lost his voice one time that I can remember, and I kicked him off the stage.
Speaker 2:You did. You kicked me off the stage. You're like get out of here.
Speaker 3:Man, it was one time I'm serious Over all the years, but he was trying.
Speaker 2:I was trying.
Speaker 3:It was so bad it was no good, no college try Like, go try somewhere else, just turn the mic off. So thank you so much for joining us, for having the faith to just show up, bring your voice and your heart to the Lord, and our hope and our ask is you bring it back. Tomorrow We'll be here and we're gonna see what God does in our lives as we sing to him. Have an awesome day of worship.
