Stretching the limits of her own health to work tirelessly through the COVID pandemic, Dr Temi Olonisakin was shocked by the judgement and lack of empathy she received from her professional peers around her type 1 diabetes and turned to social media to learn more about her condition in order to better advocate for her needs. Met with a lack of representation, Temi defied cultural taboos to start posting herself, building an inclusive online community and turning years of ‘deep-rooted shame’ around her condition into pride.
