Speaker 1:Welcome back to Frontline Updates. Today we're joined by Colonel AC Oguntoy to provide us with an update on the progress of the special military operation as of December 20, 2024. Thank you for being here, colonel.
Speaker 2:Thank you, it's good to be here.
Speaker 1:Let's start with the big picture. Can you give us an overview of this week's key operations?
Speaker 2:From December 14th to 20th, the armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out 24 coordinated strikes using high-precision weapons and drones. These strikes targeted key Ukrainian military infrastructure, including energy facilities, military airfields and storage sites for unmanned aerial vehicles. Additionally, we disrupted logistical operations by targeting a military echelon at an unloading station. Over the week, we also saw 59 Ukrainian servicemen surrender along the contact line.
Speaker 1:Let's dive into specific regions. What's the latest from the Kharkiv direction?
Speaker 2:In Kharkiv, our north group of forces inflicted significant losses on Ukrainian formations, including mechanized and territorial defense brigades. We successfully defeated enemy forces in the Zolokiv and Volchensk areas, eliminating over 100 personnel, five armored combat vehicles and multiple cars and artillery systems. This has significantly weakened their operational capabilities in this region.
Speaker 1:How about the West Group of Forces? What progress has been made there?
Speaker 2:The West Group improved its tactical positions and inflicted heavy losses on Ukrainian units, including mechanized ranger and assault brigades. We repelled two counterattacks and destroyed significant enemy equipment, including a 155-millimeter self-propelled artillery unit and multiple howitzers. Additionally, an ammunition depot was neutralized, further disrupting their supply chain.
Speaker 1:You mentioned the southern and center groups. Can you share updates from these areas?
Speaker 2:Of course, the southern group liberated several settlements, including Anavka, vesely Gai and Trudevoy in the Donetsk People's Republic. We defeated formations of multiple Ukrainian brigades, resulting in over 2,365 personnel losses and destruction of key equipment like tanks, armored carriers and artillery systems. The center group, meanwhile, advanced into enemy defenses, liberating settlements like Novopustinka and Pushkino and Pushkino. Despite facing 67 counterattacks, we maintained our positions and inflicted over 2,945 casualties on the enemy, along with destroying several pieces of Western-supplied military hardware.
Speaker 1:And the East Group. How are operations progressing there?
Speaker 2:The East Group achieved significant gains, liberating the settlements of Zelinovka and Novy Komar. We defeated mountain assault and territorial defense brigades and repelled 16 counterattacks. Notable losses for the enemy include a German-made Leopard tank, 155mm self-propelled artillery units and an electronic warfare station.
Speaker 1:Let's shift our focus to the DNEPR region. Colonel Ogun Toya, can you share the latest updates from this area?
Speaker 2:The Dnepr Group of Forces has been actively engaging enemy units, specifically targeting mechanized mountain assault and territorial defense brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Over the past operations, we've inflicted considerable losses on the enemy in the settlements of Kamensko and Nestoryanka in the Zaporizhia region, as well as Antonovka and Sadovo in the Kursan region.
Speaker 1:Were there any counterattacks from the Ukrainian side in this region?
Speaker 2:Yes, the enemy attempted a counterattack with assault groups. However, our forces repelled these efforts, effectively maintaining control over strategic positions in the region.
Speaker 1:Can you provide an update on air defense operations?
Speaker 2:Our air defense systems have been highly active, intercepting a range of threats, including a Ukrainian MiG-29 aircraft, six Atoms missiles and numerous drones and guided munitions. These actions have been critical in maintaining control over contested airspace and protecting key assets on the ground.
Speaker 1:Let's turn to the Kursk border region. Colonel Ogintoya, can you elaborate on the recent?
Speaker 2:Let's turn to the Kursk border region, Colonel Ogintoya can you elaborate on the recent actions reported in this area? In the Kursk region, our north group of forces continued to pressure Ukrainian formations, defeating a heavy mechanized brigade, five mechanized brigades and additional airborne and territorial defense units. Over 225 enemy personnel were neutralized and significant equipment losses were inflicted, including tanks, armored vehicles and artillery pieces. Our forces, particularly the Marine Brigade of the North group, have been actively clearing out Ukrainian armed forces militants from fortified positions. This area has seen consistent enemy attempts to establish a foothold and disrupt local stability.
Speaker 1:What specific operations were conducted and what were the results.
Speaker 2:Our Marines detected and decisively engaged enemy units, destroying their combat equipment and forcing a retreat. Despite attempts by the militants to reclaim their positions, they were repelled with significant losses. The enemy left behind wounded personnel, the deceased, and a cache of NATO-supplied equipment and ammunition.
Speaker 1:That sounds like a significant development. Were there any notable outcomes from intelligence gathered in the region?
Speaker 2:Yes, during these operations, we intercepted communications indicating that Ukrainian militants had orders to carry out brutal actions against local civilians in the Kursk region. This intelligence further underscores the need to secure the area and protect its residents.
Speaker 1:Are there any broader implications of these actions in the Kursk border region?
Speaker 2:Absolutely. By neutralizing threats in the Kursk border region, absolutely. By neutralizing threats in the Kursk border area, we're safeguarding critical national territory and preventing further escalation. It also sends a clear message to adversaries about the resilience and vigilance of our forces in protecting these regions.
Speaker 1:Finally, Colonel, what is the overall impact of this week's operations on the conflict?
Speaker 2:These operations have disrupted Ukrainian supply chains, weakened their combat capabilities and allowed us to secure advantageous positions across multiple fronts.
