In 1974, 20-year-old Joan Little was jailed in North Carolina when she claimed a white jailer sexually assaulted her at knifepoint. Little fought back, killing the jailer and escaping custody. What followed became one of the most significant trials of the Civil Rights era, drawing national attention from activists, civil rights leaders, and women's rights organizations. This episode explores the events inside the jail, the murder trial that followed, and how Joan Little became a symbol of self-defense, racial justice, and women's rights.
