We're so tired, man. Exhausted. Oh man. Okay. Day two, retire for us, day three of the actual event. Because we drove down the first day.
SPEAKER_00Better than yesterday? Shooting wise? Shooting wise, yeah. I felt better today anyway. Um wasn't always going left. So today I was actually going into the middle every once in a while. I was all over the place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I lost the same amount of arrows I did yesterday. Which is a record for me? I was down one arrow today. You were down one. I didn't lose any.
SPEAKER_02Did you break? No. I didn't break. Uh didn't bend any inserts. Um happy with that. I got five left, so I'm pushing that.
SPEAKER_01I think the only one the only ones I lost were on a pillar down in the shop. So I'll go to check it out when I go back. Well, you had one explode on you. I had one explode. This like a hallway. Yeah. I guess I got too close to one side and just I think I heard five or six pieces falling. Where they went. Who knows?
SPEAKER_00That was pretty well. I lost that one on that one. I couldn't see the way the hill was. So I was just trying to guess where that target was, right? Yeah, Chris Brian. And yeah. Oh, yeah, the wolf. Yeah. Yeah, I couldn't uh I was just I was just guessing.
SPEAKER_02Oh man. The hills on that one?
SPEAKER_01Are we to walk up and walk down? You will never be ready for this event. You can train all you want, and you definitely have to do cardio and hills and whatever you can do to mimic going up insane 45-degree angle.
SPEAKER_00And you can some of the shots, like that that one shot as we were coming down, it's like you're trying to focus on the shooting on that white target on the way down, but like it's just like don't go down. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And you never have proper footing. No. Not a single shot in this time. Single shot. Yeah. You're always up or down or twisted up somehow.
SPEAKER_02We were we were walking from one target to the other and it was straight downhill the entire time. Yeah. And there's a slight bend to it, and I'm like, oh, I think it's gonna end right after this bend. Nope. We get to the bend and it goes for another like 70 yards, and it's like, holy shit. Yeah. Just kept going.
SPEAKER_01Once we got past the first couple, though, it did start to level off a bit, and then the deeper into the woods we got, I found the targets were a lot closer together.
SPEAKER_00And I did like the fact we were in the canopies today and not in that sun. Yeah, that stream running through was pretty cool too.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Very awesome landscape. I can see why they do it here for sure. Yeah. The vendor village was again didn't disappoint today. More money was spent by all of us.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it just goes fast. Like I like you think you have all this time, but you run into people, you're talking to people, you think you're gonna go over to this booth or you're gonna go do this and go check something out, and it's like, oh, we gotta go catch a bus, and it's just it's crazy how fast it goes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And uh yeah. Yeah, we always leave here with hours to like three or four hours, knowing that we're gonna spend some time there, and then you blink, and it's time to go to the bus. Yeah. What was George Riley telling you about uphill shots today?
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, it was awesome. I was not expecting even to see him here. Um, and uh he's kind of like one of the main guys that I like to follow, and um just talking to him, it I told him that I was hitting left yesterday, trying to learn shooting on the hills because they I mean they are some of those things you are shooting shooting uphill, and basically you want to set your shoulders and everything correctly before you even start to draw the bow. So you want to make sure that, and then also try not to get your shoulder line above the target, so uh, and then as you draw, you just want to add a little bit of pressure uh in your bow hand and always have have that set before you anchor in. And the big problem is you always feel like you are long in your draw, and it's just that you're setting up incorrectly. So the bow feels like you've you've got too much, but uh yeah, I kind of that would have been great advice yesterday, but I'm glad I uh I'm glad I got it today. Yeah, um, but it was yeah, night, night and day difference. So yesterday I felt like I could not get get in properly, and today I didn't have that problem at all. Yeah, it it felt way better. And uh what were some of the things you picked up today? Uh I got some broadheads and some veins. Evolution outdoors? Yeah, so I went with the uh wide, the uh couple white tail fury, and the hide. The hide, yeah. Um and I think that's all I got today. And then what did you pick up, Misha?
SPEAKER_02A rest. I picked up a few things. Uh the boys at Extreme Outfitters talked me into a Hamski R7 for my ARC34. It didn't take long at all. They didn't take long at all. This looks very good. Yeah. Yeah. You know, I was looking at I'm asking if they had any epsilons because I wanted to get a V2 just to save a couple bucks. And honestly, I didn't really think I needed an R7, me personally. Um there is a big difference between the two, but why didn't you think you needed it? I can't afford one. Probably. Um but they they talked me into it. Uh I think the key point they had was you have this fancy new bow, brand new bow, top of the line, and you're gonna put something that's not top of the line on it. Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? And I'm like, well when you put it that way, I guess it kind of works.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00So they uh it's crap, it's right. It is a cool looking rest, and I do like where they put the uh the Allenhead adjustments like like to be able to adjust it now, I I think that's really smart.
SPEAKER_01Lin driven, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so I grabbed one for myself and and one for one of the boys back home. And then uh also picked up that SOS little vibration dampener for one of the other guys back home. Um and then picked up a serious stabilizer. I'm gonna look at those tomorrow. Yeah. Which I think is phenomenal. Yeah, it looks really good. I was originally gonna get a set of uh the quattro lagos, but the serious ones kind of look better. They're thinner, they're a little bit lighter, which can be a hit or miss for some people, but you can always add a weight to it. Yeah, but having it be thinner reduces uh wind drift. So like that's huge. Um and I got the 10-inch, and it's actually longer than the Velago 10 inch. Okay. By probably about probably about an inch with if I include the the QD. Yeah, and then you're getting the quick yeah, the disconnect, which would be the 8-degree quick disconnect, and they they built it there. So when you're at the booth, they have all the different colors, the different accessories, um and then you tell them what you want, and then they build it for you right there. So you can do, you know, like a uh like a had like a sky blue uh collar for the back of the stabilizer, and then the front you could have done orange if you wanted. They had greys, they had pink, white, teal, green, black, uh light grey, dark gray, a whole bunch of colors. But they just didn't have any that match the slate for the Matthews Arc, at least for the what I saw. So I just did black. Can't go wrong with black though.
unknownCan't go wrong with black as well.
SPEAKER_02I think it meant it looks perfect. It looks wicked. It looks stealthy as shit. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but it no, it's awesome. They do like a comparison video on the two, honestly. Um yeah, it's great. Decently priced too, cheaper than the uh than the Qualchos, which is nice because then I one I don't have to pay shipping on it or tax returns, so getting it here is nice.
SPEAKER_00Well, and then you save money there and that got you the R7. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. See how that works? So all that's left is a site.
unknownOh, it's okay. You think about that?
SPEAKER_02Well, I was gonna get the the dozen VAP TKOs from uh Evolution because they were selling a dozen for 140 US, which is around 190 Canadian for a dozen uh of the V1 VAP TKOs, which is crazy. But my card kept getting declined for some reason for him. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think it was their unit. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I was like, alright, well I'll come back tomorrow, but then I found the Sirius booth and I was like, oh, maybe my card will work here, and it did. So hey, alright! The universe works in mysterious ways, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's wicked. And then I picked up the Poseidon uh Pro charger from Dark Energy, super thin. Um I forgot all of my power bites at home and looked at these for a long time, never got them. It's actually thinner than my cell phone, which is pretty cool. And it's got a flap on it, it's over here, it's fine looking at it. It's got a flap on it that snaps shut covering all the ports, so if you were to drop it outside in the water or whatever, it's waterproof. You get about two to three cell phone charges out of a full charge, so that's cool. Um also picked up the push archery, it has their pocket quiver that has a magnet on it. You can put it in a pocket, you can put it in your pants, you can put it anywhere. They're everywhere. There's so many people who had them. There's a magnet down inside you can put your arrows in so that the fuel points will stick to the magnet and keep them kind of secure. And then inside the pocket, there's another magnet for your release. You secure and rattle-free. They don't like, yeah, they don't freeze.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's a big thing when you're walking, you don't hear that arrow noise.
SPEAKER_01And then we also picked up um the graystone system. Greystone, thank you. Oh, we'll get there. The um graystone system, which is this really cool design we all want. Yeah. It's a cleat, yeah. Like a such cleat. Yeah, so it kind of it fits together, two pieces that fit together with magnets. So you can put it on a backpack, attach your tree stand, and just unhook it. Or if you're saddle hunting, like I know we talked about this before, it's always hard having things hanging off of you that you have to try and unhook while you're hanging up from the tree. So having this on a magnet, you just pull it, is pretty cool. I think he said it holds about 90 pounds when they were testing it.
SPEAKER_02He said, yeah, he said 70 pounds that they tried, but then he puts it on, he puts 150 pounds worth of shit on it at home. Yeah. So like you have no issues with it breaking on you.
SPEAKER_01No, so it's pretty cool. So we're gonna get that working and uh get him on the podcast too. It's gonna everybody's gonna want one of those.
SPEAKER_02He's a great dude, man. He sent me a message on Instagram. Yeah, he did to me too. Saying thank you.
SPEAKER_01Nicky said he started the company like five days ago. So for him. Yeah, he came to the right place to get the word out.
SPEAKER_02He said uh he tested it with his cop buddy who attaches his mouth wall to his his chest rig with it. Yeah, that's insane.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, if he has to walk through an area that was glass or stuff, he just attached the fucking dog to his wow. Just easy click, click, click, it's awesome. And then I shot the AX90. Well, we all did. What did you guys think? It's not for me.
SPEAKER_02Not for why isn't it for you? What did you not like about it? I just I won't be able to shoot that all day. Right. Or probably more than 20 times before my shoulder gives out. So I just I don't have a reason for it. Right. Um, I mean like if I was going out to Africa or something, and I needed something that I could shoot at an 800 grain arrow, then sure. Um, because then you'd only need to do like, you know, five practice shots and then maybe one or two to get your animal. But for someone like me that just needs a bow for 3D archery, right, and then in the hunting season, like a 70 to 80 pound bow is all I need, and I'm not blowing my shoulder out, it's an enjoyable thing to shoot. Right. But it didn't feel like 90 pounds. It was actually 94. It was 94, it didn't feel like it. I'll give them that. You did not feel like it. I thought I was really struggling to pull it back, but I looked back at the videos and like, oh I actually it looked like it pulled out pretty bad. It looked pretty good pretty easily. But yeah, I when I said that it's not for me, the guy that was recording me for I guess for Hoitz Media just put his phone down. It's like, alright, that's enough of that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. Oh, it's I couldn't believe I again every time I do do those things, I don't think I'm gonna be able to pull it back. Uh yesterday was sort of a big day uh running around in the heat and uh and shooting, and uh I was like, man, I'm pretty tired of, but I'll try and pull it back, and yeah, no issues pulling it back at all. Um I didn't even feel any any pressure, but again, like I think that that bow is kind of specific.
SPEAKER_01Um just want to take a quick break to talk to you about a couple of things that I've been using that I think might benefit you. Uh, one is this Numa Outdoors gear. Uh this is in their Kaza OV pattern, which is great, whitetail pattern when you're up in a tree in the fall and late season. They also have a Kaza pattern which has more green in it, which is good for spring through to the fall. Numa's given me a code to give to you of Caribou Media 20, which will save you 20% at checkout. Another product here that I've been using for years now is the Bulldog Targets. This is a Canadian-made target. Uh they're made in Manitoba. They have a lifetime warranty. I've used that warranty twice now on a couple of my larger targets that are outside. It's very simple, very easy. Uh these targets are two-finger removal every single time, which is incredible. Uh, field point only target. Bulldog's been gracious enough to give me a 20% discount code to give to you. Uh check out use code BD20, hyphen caribou, hyphen media. That'll save you 20% on these awesome targets. Now back to the show.
SPEAKER_00David Hauser brought up a good point. He said it's only like if you shoot 70 pounds, he's like, it's only like 20% more. It's not like you're doing, you know, this huge like if you break down the math, I'm like, that kind of makes sense too, right? So, but uh, but it's just how much do you need? Um, definitely, if I was gonna do an African hunt or something like that, like Misha said, I would definitely it it's crazy just how smooth it is for what it is.
SPEAKER_01I think it's like anything, you don't need it, but if you can do it and you're comfortable with it, the idea is why not? That's where they're that's yeah, where they're coming from.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and depending what critters you're chasing and what you're gonna do, what uh everything like I don't think I'd want to use it in a really cold environment, like if I was like sitting in a tree stand for five hours and then trying to rip that thing back. You know, if you're running around in in good climates or different things like that, um like we talked about, I think the big thing will be if if people want to go that direction, depending on what your draw length is, you are going to start running into what aer spine are you gonna run in that thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's as the weights go up and up and up, it's gonna be but arrow companies are gonna have something.
SPEAKER_00But they've definitely designed and engineered a 90-pound bow where pretty much the average guy can pull it back.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like everybody that I saw there was able to do it. Yeah. Some people were struggling, but that's just the nature of the beast, right? Um I've been shooting 80 pounds with my prime for well, I guess, six to eight months now. So that helps me because I'm used to the extra weight, but I was not sure what the 90 was going to be like. I knew it would be a little bit more, but I did find that 80 in the AX3 was super easy. So when I pulled back the 90, which was like we said, 94, it was it was really smooth. It was stiff at the beginning, which is to be expected, but then it it smoothed out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And yeah, the bow noise, everything else was like just like yeah, like I was to go from my twangy ass B3X to that thing is pretty quiet.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they were saying uh 533 grain arrow through that bow was going 317 feet per second. It's insane. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_02So that's pretty wild. I just realized my V3X is 70 pounds, but it pulls 65. So I'm pulling 29 pounds more on that hoit that I've never pulled before. Yeah. That's why when I pulled the first time, I was like, holy fuck, why is it so hard? Well, it was like 29 pounds.
SPEAKER_01It's like last year when we came and you were used to, was it 65 or 60?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like two years ago, I was like just doing 60, and then last year I was up to 65, and then bought that 70 pounder, but for the most part, like I was never a heavy poundage sort of uh sort of person. Like all the beginning parts of uh up when I first started was 55 to 60 pounds.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and it's I think and then you shot the prime at 82, right? Yeah, so I think you're I think it it all has to do with the cam designs and the engineering that's going into every company. Like I shot the Matthews at 80 and it was the arc was a breeze. Yeah, uh I shot the AX3 at 80, which was a breeze, now the AX90, which was not what I thought it would be, it was very smooth. Prime's core cam, also extremely smooth. I was on the bus, the guy that sat back on the bus with me on the way back. From the course today, he saw my bow and he was like, I shot that today. He's like, that was the smoothest drawing bow I've ever shot in my life. So I think as you know the years go on and the technology changes, it's just getting better and better and better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like a 70-pound bow today feels like yesterday's 60-pound bow. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's pretty wild. So what else?
SPEAKER_00Uh we caught a little bit of the after party, which was awesome. Ran into uh Julian and uh Keegan and his their buddies. Yeah. So it was nice. Uh it was nice running into them, but man, I really, I really wish we could have shot with them. Yeah, yeah, they were a lot of fun last year to shoot with.
SPEAKER_01Same with Kevin and their group from London. Yeah. It just goes back to the registration piece, right? Like we talked about before, it's so difficult just to get a group of three together, let alone two groups shooting at the same time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I mean uh they went and did 1230 lacrosse uh course uh in the afternoon as walk-ons, like an hour and a half before the knock time they went and registered. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So they tried to get with us, but B-Root was full, which it definitely was because there's a whole bunch of people there that's jams and all that. More lineups this year than previous years. Yeah. Like I remember I think the first year it started off busy and then you'd get distance and eventually you wouldn't see anybody. Yeah. And then same with last year. I felt you'd get maybe a couple times where it felt like it bunched up, but like this year, the last two courses we've done has been like stop.
SPEAKER_02It entirely depends who's in front of you, because there's that group of dudes all in matching shirts. There's six of them in their group, and then there's a group of three, group of two, group of two, us, group of two behind us, group of two behind them, and if all six of those guys are taking their own shot, yeah, it's gonna take longer, and then there's those groups of three from yesterday that all show at the same time. Yeah, they all shot at the same time. So it's like if you have those two groups within five targets of each other, it's just gonna be bottleneck after bottleneck after bottleneck, just yeah, people waiting and waiting and waiting, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, and I found too on this uh Be Real course, I mean, half the half half of it was trying to find the target and then try to range it. Yeah. And both so that takes time too. Like when you get up there and you're trying to get a range, and it's just like, I'm getting four different ranges.
SPEAKER_02It's like, wait, which one did you get? 43k? I got 37, 52, I got six. 43. 27, so I'm gonna go 43 if that's what I got.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like I think I got a leaf or a branch or something. So that that can take a little bit of time too. And and then some of them you're looking at it, and I thought this big boulder was the target, and it wasn't, it was just a boulder, and it was the the target was actually behind it. Yeah. So uh yeah, I found I found today's force to be like, yeah, a way more technical. Trees in the way, branches in the way, shooting through those leafy green things, and uh yeah, it's um yeah, that uh I think that can add to it as well.
SPEAKER_02I still don't understand how the hell they get the targets in there. Yeah. It's fucking crazy. Yeah. Yeah, it's gotta take forever. Yeah. Like, I mean, the road was closed for like from target like 14 and up or 13 and up, so I guess they can take the four-wheeler on the road and then walk it out. Yeah, but everything else, it's like how do you get anything through the street?
SPEAKER_00Well, go some go up some of those hills with a target on your back.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01No, a 90-pound target. It's crazy. Yeah, it's wild. Yeah, and they're marking all of the trails too. Yeah. So like yeah, that was pretty that's pretty crazy when you think about it. Yeah. And then going back to boots, like we talked about yesterday. Yeah, uh, I wore the lower Tibet GTX, my hunting boots the first day, which I love. Today uh left them in the truck and was wearing similar, something similar to like a Blendstone boot. Most of the time I was fine. When I noticed a difference, obviously, was when we're going straight up or straight down or side hilling, no ankle support, and your toes would either slide forward or fine. So it took a little bit of a beating today, but definitely uh things to think about when you're coming here if you're gonna wear you know actual boots or running shoes or a hybrid of the two. You know, just depends on your comfort level. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's pretty important the uh the footwear aspect of it all. And this year too, we're lucky it's dry.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, I couldn't imagine walking down that hill if it was muddy. The rain. Like we wouldn't have made it up that first hill after the first B-reel day. Well, it was rocky, so you've been alright. But that was. That one where we're walking down for what seemed to be like Yeah, even with a rope, you would have been And the rocks, there's rocks everywhere.
SPEAKER_01Like you're so Would you rather have the rocks or the vines? No, the rocks. I take the rocks all day long, those vines and go fuck themselves and try to kill me twice yesterday more than twice yesterday. Yeah, toe catchers.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh no, more toe catchers. The toe catchers. Watch out for the toe catchers.
SPEAKER_01Wrap around your ankle and pull your feet out from you. Fall on your bow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's great. But yeah, I mean, yeah, for as technical as that is, yeah, like like you said, not losing one arrow, I lost one. So you've lost one total? To one total.
SPEAKER_02Right on the target one that like I lost I lost two to targets, and then I don't I think uh two on the air, I tried on the air spinner, and the inserts were bent, but I never shot those. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I have no idea how that happened. And I had a slight issue yesterday, which we fixed the guy this morning on the table here. So I lost six altogether, which was last year, I think I lost three for the whole weekend.
SPEAKER_02Well, there's still one more course, so might lose some more. Right lose some more. Yeah. RMEF though is I think from last year, Julian said it was pretty open. And they're all big L catar shots, which would be which would be fun.
SPEAKER_00Fucking turkeys and those little small ones. Yep. But yeah, no, I think the only other tidbit too learning today was uh, yeah, if you shoot for the truck as a Canadian, then you don't count.
SPEAKER_01Yes, so we did learn that. So I've heard both stories. I asked last year and they said yeah, it was fine, and then we've heard this year that somebody from tech said no, if something Canadian wins, you're not gonna get it. Or what was it, that you had to pay for everything at the time? Tons of stuff at the border. Like you're basically to pay for the value of everything that you won on the truck at the border before you can bring it home. Something like that. So I guess they don't even let us win. So save your money for Canadian. That's not it in my cool. So we will not be shooting for the caribou tomorrow. I guess, unfortunately, but it's not like we would have got it anyway.
SPEAKER_00Hey, you never know, man. And did you want to do one of the other ones? Didn't you want to try the iron rhino one?
SPEAKER_01We can try that.
SPEAKER_02What do you win for that? Something from Kafaru. Oh. I might try that. Uh a rangefinder. There's an apple. I don't know what that one's for, though. If you shoot an apple at 50 yards, I'll give you that. Yeah, that's roll. It's easy. Just an apple? Oh. Are we gonna hit the range tomorrow on it? Yes.
SPEAKER_01Why start now? First day we did. Today we're like, we definitely had to hit the range because we made, we both made adjustments on our bow. And we go walking around and start talking to people and buying shit, and then it's like, uh-oh, now we gotta go to the bus.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And then when you're shooting, you're like, oh well, I'm I'm left, so I'm gonna adjust something, and then you're like, oh, I'm more left, I'm gonna adjust it again. And all of a sudden you're way right and you're like, what the fuck just happened? You have no idea what you're shooting, and you're shooting one air at a time, you're not shooting groups, so you don't know if the first shot was actually your fault or if it was the bow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And the bubble. Like bubble, those downhill, what was that, 83 on the goat or whatever? Or the ram, the white ram. And you you think your your bow is level, and you look at your bubble, and you're like, no. And then you feel like you're turning into the hill.
SPEAKER_00It's like, oh my god. Yeah, no, that's I would say that is the biggest learning. Like it's one of those things that you just it's more knowledge as you collect it because yeah, there's times you draw your bow back and you're like, there is no way that that is level when you see the bubble in the center, what it is. Yeah. Yeah. And that comes back to the footing, the terrain, the slopes, like all of that stuff.
SPEAKER_01It definitely humbles you here. If you are a backyard shooter and you're incredible at home, you need to come to one of these. Yeah. And bring a dozen arrows with you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. Just it just m gives you just a little bit more, adds a little more to your repertoire, you know.
SPEAKER_01Like just Yeah, it makes you think about things a little more. Yeah. For sure. We're gonna go look at that New Zealand uh outfitter.
SPEAKER_00Oh man, I for totally forgot about that today. Yeah, we should go check pricing. Red stag in 2029. Yeah, we should check pricing. You should say you're gonna come? Yeah. At least check pricing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I should be able to for it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we gotta start saving now. But uh they have financing options. Payment pro oh yeah. Yeah, payment plans, for sure. Yeah. But uh it would be I'd be curious to see like what part of New Zealand and what the cost is. Like, but it would be uh it'd be pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02All right, so we have a nine o'clock mark time tomorrow.
